You can use WD-40 instead of starting fluid. Since it's aerosol oil and NOT nearly as volatile as ether, it won't cause any damage. It also DOES NOT always work.😢
I’ve been at the junkyard getting the dash pad for my 2nd gen today. I found a perfect one. Little did I know though.. you have to loosen 2 bolts 1 behind each kick panels to roll the whole dash forward which gives barely enough room to get 2 screws that the factory put in from the windshield side!! My GOD that was horrible!! You can bet the farm when it goes back in mine those 2 screws will NOT be going back in!! And that fuse panel door is always missing too. I grabbed that while I was there too.. Great stuff @Mortske !! Stay blessed brother!!
If you decide to use that truck/chassis put a FASS or Air Dog lift pump system with a new fuel pick up in the tank. Then a fuel pressure gauge in the cab that will monitor lift pump operation and fuel filter efficiency. After that it will run forever. My '98 24V has 440K on it. Just brought 2 horses back to Orygun from Montana. AND only had one automatic trans. rebuild. Look on the driver's side of the block, just above the oil pan rail, for a block #. If it's a 53 it's the block that CAN crack between the freeze plugs. If it hasn't in 250K it probably won't, especially since your keeping it stock. My 440K 24V is a 53 block. NO CRACKS.😊

Now you are entering my world 😂. On that point about the 24valve The major downside of the 24-valve Cummins 5.9 was the thinner walls of the cast iron engine block. Specific to the earlier ISB engines (1999 through 2001) stamped with the number “53,” the thinner blocks were susceptible to cracking by the freeze plugs, resulting in coolant leaks. Additionally, while the Bosch VP44 injection pump is decent, it is also one of the more common issues of the 24V engine and can be expensive to repair. The fuel lift pump can also fail. Other problematic parts include the engine’s exhaust manifold, which can crack or leak, and fuel injectors....they are cool, especially the 12 valves they can be tuned with some parts upgrades to exceed 1000 horses with alott of torque.
You can buy or make a timing pin for installing and removing injection pumps, it basically just goes through a small hole in the gear and locks the pump into position so that don’t bump it out of time when you remove it or when your installing it. You can remove the gear and the pin should stay in place and keep the pump locked into position until you remove the pin. It’s similar to locking pins on timing chain tensioners and serpentine belt tensioners.
I would love to see this on the channel more. I’m not a huge Dodge person. But I think this truck would be a cool addition to the channel. Seeing you upgraded overtime. Or maybe even seeing it as a giveaway truck.
Happy Belated Thanksgiving Mr. Mortske! I hope it was a good one. So, the take-away from this video is: When trouble shooting the electrical system of a Dodge with a starting problem, be prepared to end up with a Black & Tan. I do confess I have partaken. Actually, that sounds good as I haven't had one in a while, and it is the holidays. Speaking of hydration, it occurred to me Duff seems a bit lethargic and while your fleet increases so the need for periodic maintenance. In your case, that means checking fluids at periodic intervals and it's the same for Duff with all those tires. Great video.
The benefit of not having to worry about using DEF is reason enough, in my opinion, to keep this rig.....but that's just my opinion of course. I had a 1997 Ram 1500 4x4 i bought new and you're absolutely right about the automatic transmissions. Mine went out at only 56,000 miles. I couldn't believe it. Thankfully i don't have it anymore. Thanks for sharing and good job, Mort! 😎
Dang you're a good mechanic problem solver. AI Question says: An audio adapter for a car radio is a device that facilitates the connection between various audio sources and the car’s audio system. These adapters can serve multiple purposes, including enhancing sound quality, enabling connectivity with modern devices, and allowing for the integration of additional audio inputs.
Give the blower box under the passenger-side dash a decent bang, and it may kick the blower motor on. My '07 has this issue, and it makes it come back to life almost every time.
I just wanted to thank you for the great content again I look forward to Monday nights and it's awesome to see some of those surprise ones on your second Channel they're awesome going uptown looking at some garage sale shit and whatever else you come up with
Couple notes from my 2nd gen ownership. Fuse with the holder on it is meant to be pulled outward when parked for long periods as it disconnects anything that draws on the battery so the battery(ies) don’t drain. The factory front license plate bracket does in fact foolishly hang down from the bottom of the metal bumper instead of sitting perfectly in the license plate sized rectangle in the bumper, many ended up getting crunched and then reattached there instead. The factory mirrors (non tow for sure, not sure about tow) jitter while driving down the road, that’s chrystler for ya.
Thanks Mortske for making my Mondays less productive!! People should stop wining about prices, it's been on television and repaired by a professional (allegedly!).
Great video! It's cool when you track down and isolate a problem successfully. Well done!
Yes! Thank you!
42° here today, that's too cold for me to be outside working! Glad I have a new video to entertain me. 😊👍
Enjoy!
Mortske minutes is a great learning tool box
That truck is in excellent shape for the age. Definitely and good truck to restore
Agreed!
That was a great video on a diesel runs good can't wait for the next one.
Appreciate it!
Great job reviving that truck. I would have trouble letting that one go.
You and me both!
Give the blower box under the passenger-side dash a decent bang, and it may kick the blower motor on. My '07 has this issue, and it makes it come back to life almost every time.
Just the greatest channel and content creator 🙂 much respect as always ✊
I appreciate that

One of your best video's! Great job Mort..
Glad you think so!
Great video Mr MORTSKE. As usual you knocked it out of the park.
Thx

Glad you enjoyed it
Definitely worth keeping her and improving. Unpopular opinion but kinda my favorite era of Dodge trucks.
Thanks for the tips!
Duff was just reserving his spot for the victory ride
Thanks Mortske for making my Mondays less productive!! People should stop wining about prices, it's been on television and repaired by a professional (allegedly!). Also I got a smart tv in my shop and no matter what video I play, the next video is always one of yours!! I dunno if it's really that smart but hopefully you get a few more cents out of it!!
You're the best!
