@@netnomad47 oh sure I do appreciate that the phone at least has a non-trivial amount of storage but at least personally I have a pretty significant amount of music and roms I'd like to be able to put on such a device without completely wiping out the internal storage. Once you start adding PS2/GameCube/anything newer games to take advantage of the improved specs you burn up your storage really fast.
There's 2 ports on the Rog phone, the under screen selfie on the redmagic is completely terrible and unusable and they have the worst software of any phone.

For the Alien Isolation to unlock the fps it need change the framerate limit on "preferences" file locked in Data folder. All phones are locked to 30fps and 720p with 85% of resolution, in any settings if not changed. Some graphics options are hidden on a xml inside apk file, like: DOF, SSAO, Volumetric Light, Particles, Planar Reflections, ShadownMapResoluitons and Upscaler (It sharpens the image at fps cost). It's necessary change on the apk file to make possible changes on the "preferences" file. (Because the app automatically reset this file) Just doing all that we could see the truth perfomance of this chip, because Alien Isolations is a very heavy game when all set to max.
I think even in the next year 8 gen2 is more than enough horsepower to satisfy your emulation needs which can be available in 500-600$ phones. Unless there is a new emulator which will support X360/PS3 emulator in the future you're good with Snapdragon 8gen 2.
That's because, even though it was years later & never actually implied, the Odin uses the "Speed Binned" (as it was called when the original ROG Phone launched) variant, of the Snapdragon 845.
..much cheaper to own an Odin 2, which does the same thing. Watching all your videos, it comes off like you're not a big fan of AYN Odin 2, what gives?

With an SD card slot, too. The Odin is a bit larger than controller plus phone. At $300+, I thought the Odin was kind of a hard sale, because you might as well get a Steam Deck or a controller for your phone or something more pocketable (Cheaper) like the RP4 Pro. I like the look of the older ROG phones because they didn't look like a generic phone. And the front camera hole bothers me, especially in a gaming phone.

It is just amazing how powerful Android devices have got with time. Since i'm not very interested in modern games, I have been thinking that my next "console" may be an Android tablet, used for emulation and cool online multiplayer Android games.
As much as all of these new phones look awesome The fact that none of these new phones have a MicroSD card slot is an absolute deal breaker for me. And I love using Samsung phones because of Dex and my NexDock 360 wireless. But NONE of these new Samsung phones support SD cards so I'll ve sticking with my Note 20 Ultra indefinitely..
It's really a shame that we have all this power and little to no way to utilize it; which makes me really look forward to PC emulation development. I do sometimes wonder what would happen if these gaming phones could dual boot natively.

I can't enjoy playing anything on Android because of the input latency which nobody seems to feel but me. It doesn't matter if the controller is connected through Bluetooth or usb-c, there's a higher or slighter but noticeable delay depending on the game or emulator. Do you not feel it Taki? I can see it in this video
Very wierd. I don't feel anything. Using 8 bit do wired controller usb connected by usb to type c adapter and I get zero lag it feels like I'm playing on TV with console.

It may be a bit wonky setup but vertical setting with a pad thanks to the bottom usb should be pretty neat for DS, 3DS that heavily use both screens and vertical shmup. Kinda sad you didn't showcase that.

If you intend to use it as the phone it was built to be, sure, there's a lot of performance on the dollar. Otherwise you've got an over-specced device with software that a Snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip (or even gen 1) could already handle just fine. The Android environment is a real obstacle to the emulation scene, and at that price point you may as well look at a PC handheld for better software support.
You know its weird. How some of the lower end games run like crap but more modern run great. All about its optimization. If only someone would program an ai to artificially enhance any game to run fully optimized no problem.

I did. I was originally going to have an entire section on PC emulation, but the current Mesa drivers will crash anything. Kind of bummed that I won't be able to see what this can do for a few more months.
I can run dead space 1(non remake) on my note 10+ through winlator 4.0 and can get approximately between 3-15 fps consistently in the first few moments of the game where I've fiddled around. I have tried the wineD3d original wrapper and the DXVK2.0 wrapper with similar performance. No active cooling was used and inhanced processing option enabled
I always look for hdmi for my next phone currently I have a red magic 7, not changing it yet, I love to hook my phones to the TV with a controller and play as a console, they're great for emulation and media, shame that red magic and rog doesn't have desktop mode like Samsung, it's a feature very underrated. The lack of SD card support just for selling more expensive phones it's just obnoxious...
Red magic has Asus beat. ROG phones overheat and the motherboard melts eventually, also external coolers are bulky and ugly, having an internal fan is more convenient, and if you need it you can add a cooler, but I’ve never needed to. Also, the placement of the charger port is no deal for me. Air triggers are great, but having a controller plugged in is still better.

Losing the licensing fees to use the SD card storage medium are an easy way to cut costs for phone makers.
What you want is not relevant to a company. Removing the SD card “encourages” the consumer to buy the higher storage version. Basic marketing.

Got to have a micro SD card slot. 1tb is great but not having SD card support limits the speed of migration to the next device.
Pc games can already be emulated tho with mobox it can emulate even gta 5 at 30 - 40 fps even up to 60fps
