If battery life is a major concern for you, 2nd gen Switch or OLED model are a better choice. (Lite has the revised "Mariko" chipset, too - else it wouldn't allow for such massive overclocks - but a significantly smaller battery).

I’ve been all about modding my consoles forever. But now that I have a Steam Deck, I can’t say enough how great it is to trick out a console that isn’t fighting me the whole way. Experience has taught me to be scared each time that I add a new feature to a hacked console. You never know which mod will be the one that finally bricks the unit, or whether it will be possible to fix it. The openness and huge amounts of community support around the steam deck make it just worlds better than any modded console that I’ve ever tried. The deck can do EVERYTHING the Switch does, do it bettter, and do all of the things that are outside of the Switches capabilities. I’ve been loading it up with PS3 and Switch games lately.

I like the idea of doing upgrades to the Switch Lite that don't really affect the software and using it that way. I guess if I were to pursue getting a secondhand one that needs easy repairs that someone doesn't want to bother with in one way or another, and if anything was possible, my ideal build would be: Transparent green shell (Doesn't look like they make them...) I have CFW on a V1 Switch and tried Android, but wasn't happy with GC performance at the time. I didn't bother with Linux, and I had no idea it was that good for emulation. This video was enlightening lol
Well done! You are one of the few people, or the only one, who wants to break through so many layers of emulation! You had a video in which you were running games created for Windows on an ARM processor. Since Microsoft probably intends to switch to the ARM architecture as it has released its dev kit based on a Qualcomm processor, maybe an update? Some test of how Windows Steam games currently work on really powerful units based on ARM architecture. Has anything improved in terms of compatibility or emulation speed?
Yes, there are two teams that are working on translation software for Windows apps/games on ARM processors. I featured one of them in this video. There's another one called FEX that has a big backing. Both Box & Fex can run modern AAA games on flagship Qualcomm chips with varying degrees of success.
Good to hear. Apparently I didn't watch the video very carefully :P I'm waiting for the switch to energy-saving solutions, with high power and long battery life (SteamDeck 2/3 maybe?). You can now run Windows/Android/Linux on one hardware platform. I am also curious how quickly the possible increase in Risc-V's importance in market share will proceed. For now, these are just speculations. Regards and I'm waiting for the next videos :D
After spending a long time thinking about it I finally got a Switch lite and the hardware jailbreak (the process was done by an expert, not me) for the equivalent of around 170 USD thanks to videos like this showcasing what it can do. I was gonna get either the v2 or OLED one but then I realised I genuinely care more about the portability aspect than using it docked. Plus, I could always get the OLED screen replacement Taki is working on and run Switch games at docked resolution.

We need in depth battery and temp tests. I would like to know how much time it would last, how hot it gets and how noisy is the console when running overclocked, depending on the result I may or may not do it.
If battery life is a major concern for you, 2nd gen Switch or OLED model are a better choice. (Lite has the revised "Mariko" chipset, too - else it wouldn't allow for such massive overclocks - but a significantly smaller battery).
It's almost funny how Nintendo has purposefully nerfed a very capable device. I'm willing to sacrifice my Nintendo Switch lite to try and get it half way useful.
Ditto. I really like how the Switch lite feels but it's just collecting dust and I was considering selling it until now. I just need to find the patience to perform these mods😅
This video made me get a switch lite after years of considering getting a switch! best purchase decision ive ever made. i feel like a kid again
This is awesome! Wish we could do this with the Odin 2.
Linux work is ongoing. Hopefully this is possible soon!
This looks actually insane, to the point where I was wondering if it was edited
Hope it doesn't take too long for the Lite OLED mod to release.
Amazing content in one video. Got a glimpse of a lot of new tech (for me) that made me realize I’m getting old
The switch was running some games (dead speace, dark souls 2) on wine over ubuntu linux... Pretty impresive.
Thank you for this video! I had not realized that OCA screens existed for the switch lite. I could not, for the life of me, get the touch screen and lcd to line up, and I had dust particles and all kinds of stuff wrong with it. Color accuracy be damned, this is the better option for me. I used your link to buy one and it should arrive just in time for me to install it to play unicorn overlord.
but...
I'm absolutely going to be purchasing an OLED drop in replacement when they are available. Thank you for making us aware of this I can not wait for it!
I have always loved your videos, keep up the great work man, you're a treasure.
We need HDMI out mods more than a screen, mind you both would be perfect as I now love the Switch Lite even more since I personally hacked mine with the Pico Fly mod chip!
The oled mod will allow for it to display on a screen
"If you are able to notice the difference in these clips, you are already more capable than the people that were supposed to fix it."
I love this channel so frickin' much.
Any updates on the OLED mod?
It's really cool how much better the Switch is now that the community has had some time to unlock more of its potential. I use my Switch _way_ more ever since modding it, because it can finally do the things it should have been able to do all along.
Appreciate you changing the thumbnail from some Ai Image to a proper artist made image! you're videos are great as always too
Thanks!

''im not showing piracy'' ... 20 min later ''ok lets show my Rom Collection for every Emulator'
good lord the amount of configing you spent for each os is insane, great vid!
how is the switch lite battery life before and after overclocking??
No difference and I use mine at very high clocks much higher than shown in this video
I try to stay below 5w dischargerate and that would give me around 2:30h battery time.
Amazing content, a complete showcase of what a modded Switch can do, while testing its processor at max and using different systems with demanding games. Great content keep up! 👏
I was gonna get a used switch and hack it, but instead I just went with an old android phone with a controller that goes on it, $70 cheaper and it’s faster!
My s10 can run games all the way up to ps2! So yes this is a great way to play older games.
I saw someone playing fallout 4 on the newest Samsung, I think the newer ones would outperform a switch.
You all have filled my heart with joy. Thank you for your kind words!
Has anyone seen a shell replacement which has a better kickstand for the unit? I'd love to replace my original model shell with an OLED style kickstand.
This is pure gold. Please give us updates on the oled panel. I have a lite repair here that is going into a atomic purple shell and would love to drop in an oled panel while Im there
NAH THE NINTENDO NINJAS ARE COMING ON THIS ONE🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗨🗨🗨🗨
ayoooo
I really searched for a good deep dive when it comes to switch lite modding and here we are. Awesome work much much appreciate it.
Am i the only one who loves to build these types of devices to never actually play them?
No your not I do it all the time at the moment I’m doing my day 1 switch even tho the games are already on my oled 😂
Haha spent $150 on a psp vita modded it, maybe played it for an hour. 😂
I seem to enjoy carving out time to mod busted systems, to just have them sitting there barely getting played. 😂
Modded my 3DS, my wife's N3DSXL, & my N2DSXL. My 3DS barely sees any action at all (largely because the buttons are about shot, it's why I got my N2DSXL in the first place), and my wife just hasn't played her N3DSXL or her Switch Lite much at all lately.
Yes
Really looking forward to the OLED + video out mod. If it makes it to retail, I will be buying multiple.
OLED mod when tho?
This was mindblowing. I have a modded switch lite lying around and might pick it up to test some of these things if time permits. Thanks Taki
The steam deck is about the size of a play station 4 slim so it better.
@@moonie1825thats the reason i sold my oled steam deck, love it, but its too huge. Im planning of getting switch lite with oled, mod but im not sure about the modchip soldering. I just tried to solder a small part on psp motherboard for ips.screen, and it bricked my psp 1000 motherboard. Doesnt turn on anymore. Lame.
We need that OLED screen mode!!!
Could that run modern world of Warcraft?
Bro I just found your channel (because I stumbled upon and consequently ordered the SUPER5 OLED/HDMI kit today!). Been down the rabbit hole for hours now watching all of your videos -- amazing stuff. Keep it up man!
Also zsnes for the win! I still use it to this day with my kids, so they can learn on the classics like SMW and DKC2 👌
Nice have fun, did you consider the modchip? Im worried to brick it with my soldering beginners experience..
why does noone on youtube playing game cube ever run pso? i feel like the only person that grew up on it lol
3DS, PSP, DC, GC AND PS2 RUNNING DECENTLY ON NINTENDO SWITCH...
IT'S ALL FOR ME!!! ❤❤❤ BEST HANDHELD, HALLELUJAH!!! 🙏🙏🙏
I seriously need that OLED screen! It looks so good, and I'm (not so) patiently waiting to assemble my broken switch lite with an upgrade.
I like the idea of doing upgrades to the Switch Lite that don't really affect the software and using it that way.
I guess if I were to pursue getting a secondhand one that needs easy repairs that someone doesn't want to bother with in one way or another, and if anything was possible, my ideal build would be:
Transparent green shell (Doesn't look like they make them...) Dome Switch buttons (is that a thing anyone has even tried?) and the OLED screen (isn't made yet)
This is some quality content 👌 great to see the Lite using its full potential
OKAY YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THIS BUT
I randomly came across this video and watched it through thinking it was a pretty good video. BUT OH MY GOD. AT 27:47 YOU PLAY A GAME CALLED BUG TOO! I NEVER KNEW WHAT THAT GAME WAS CALLED AND I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE NAME OF IT FOR OVER 20 YEARS WITH BARELY ANY INFORMATION. OH MY GOD. THANK YOU.
I got a brand new Switch lite for 140€ just days before your community post about the OLED mod. There aren't many videos showcasing a modded Switch lite so this is awesome!
Waiting for OLED update. Have rewatched it several time already and it never gets old
Yeah, me too.
My big takeaway from this is that new OLED screen that's coming. Count me it!!
I have watched this video no less than 5 times all the way through. So much good info in this video and I can't wait for the OLED mod for the switch lite.
Got a Lite for 100 Euro locally, swapped the shell for a translucent atomic purple one (of course) and now you're telling me there's an OLED mod in the works? Sign me up!
Amazing job with the video, the OLED screen looks absolutely crisp!!
The oled lite is the dream handheld, will buy as soon as the screen is available for sale.
16:53 Security Guard: "Keep still during the scanning process"
Taki: ...
I have CFW on a V1 Switch and tried Android, but wasn't happy with GC performance at the time.
I didn't bother with Linux, and I had no idea it was that good for emulation. This video was enlightening lol
lol linux is overall getting really amazing now
time to ditch windows
Had a hacked switch for yearsss and had NO IDEA it could run PS2 this well through Linux
amazing video covering all of this, thank you!
Hello Taki. Big fan of your work ....been waiting on that "video out for lite" ....do you think that will be posible with time???
I waited 2 weeks for this video......Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Appreciate the work you do Taki, keep it up!
Great video. Super fascinating deep dive. Very thorough content as always Taki.
Pretty insane that the switch light can emulate switch games 🤯
Bro just casually shows us the coolest Switch Lite ever💀
NGL, I am so god damn jealous. I love the Lite but a Lite, modded software wise AND with an OLED screen is just so sick. Hell yea.
Really loved that you showed off World of Warcraft working on the switch! Such a cool thing to see!
this is awesome thank you, still waiting on that old mod, bought a switch lite just for it
Any update on the OLED screen? I'm eagerly waiting for it!!!
That was a really great video, Taki!!
HDMI out on an oled mod sounds like it might be a case of feature creep - but if they can pull it off fully internally, that would be truly wild.
0:31 how on earth did u get jsrf on a switch 🙏🙏🙏 (tutorial pls)
