Thanks for showing support for the series, it means a lot.
Which handheld/console should I deep dive next? I've done NDS, PSP, GBA SP, and the Switch Lite.
Can you do a comprehensive guide on 3DS, Vita emulator on mid to high end Android Phone/Handheld because it runs like sh!t on my Android phone that has a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1!
@@blues05 +1 for the 3DS
@@jonathan__g Bro, even the PS2 and Wii emulators are so neglected when it comes to Android. There's no comprehensive guide like how to add 60 fps patches, tweaking optimal settings for a Snapdragon/Mediatek SoC, etc. It's a shame because Android Phones are literally a super computer with their super advanced ARM SoC that far exceeds the consoles of the yesteryear!
I'm down for a PS Vita deep dive! That Switch-ception section was so ridiculous. I'm shocked that it could be done.
To be fair Taki, did you try launching some games in wine with --no-cef-sandbox?
For those who are curious, Taki just posted an update on his Twitter saying V1 (no HDMI out) of the OLED mod will be available later this month. HDMI out version will be coming later this year.
The part where you showed the Switch actually being able to run an emulator of itself was actually mindblowing to me
I heard you like playing switch so youre emulating the switch on a switch itself.
Yo dawg
@@Drilbithey man I heard you like computers, so I got a computer for your computer
Hi pyra

It also helps he's a TH-camr. Someone was willing to sell it for that for their project to be featured in a video. Still cool to see what you can do with one.

and like new! 😅
Hello Taki. My name is Nadir, I am the dev behind the 4IFIR. I'm glad that you liked my development. Thanks for telling people about it. If you have any questions, I will be glad to answer them.
The project is developing day by day, acquiring new breakthrough feautures. Soon I plan to implement, for example, the ability to change the screen refresh rate in the range of 45-90 (not available on all LCD, but not the point).
Just wanted to say thank you for your attention on behalf of my project and its community. I am in touch. Good luck!
Thank you, mister! ❤ Before 4ifir it was a little bit of pain to play totk on Erista. After trying overclocking - it's a pure pleasure. Like it designed to be. I also was afraid of noise or overheating. But it's silent and cool enough. And you should know that I really hate noise and big temperatures. So, really thanks, that 4ifir is so cool, Cooler😊
P.S. And Hogwarts... It's really magic 😮 Far, far better than without 4ifir
Спасибо, легенда!
nice man you did a great job
You're doing God's work man
I'm glad you liked it. I hope that I will find the time and opportunity to realize all my ideas.
To infinity and beyond.
That emulation performance reminds me of the magic of first hacking my PSP. I was amazed at the amount of systems it could run and I'm equally amazed at how many the Switch lite can.
Those were the days!
Yes❤
That's me now. Just hacked my vita. Got N64, GBA, and SNES running on there. N64 runs surprisingly well, didn't grow up with one but it's cool to try. And I've been wanting a portable that plays gba games ever since the triggers on most gbas stopped working, metroid fusion was my childhood
@@Matt-jc2ml Love the vita. Probably my favourite gaming device ever and hacked just takes it to the next level. Have recently been using my Vita again after years of using handheld PC's and I still find things to marvel at. Things like the battery life and weight still blow me away in comparison to newer handhelds. Even in 2024 it could still sell if Sony had ever given it any effort. In 2024 if they released a model with USB C, built in 256gb, improved wifi/bluetooth for like $150-200 it would sell like hotcakes. No reason why something like the Portal should exist but the Vita shouldn't.
EDIT: oh and obviously microsd slot
Saw the thumbnail and instantly looked at local listings for used switch lites
Most folks out there are busy speculating as to when the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to drop but I'm just here lounging and still enjoying my Switch with CFW and its great library. Awesome video Taki
tbh im waiting for switch 2 to drop so i can finally mod the oled.
I'm waiting to get the next console so I can finally mod my gen 1 NS
@@cqllel5186 why are you waiting? if you do everything right there's no risk of getting banned
@@lucio-ohs8828 I don't wanna risk my account getting banned. IDK what it provides, either. So IDK if I'd still have access to online, my account's cloud saves, hour count/stats, or anything like that
Im sitting back speculating if there will be a Day 1 hack to unlock the Switch 2 and emulate on mobile
Ok this has to be the best performance I've ever seen someone squeezed out of the switch, you gotta make a tutorial for some of this
I appreciate you taking the time to do this deep dive
Hey Taki, special little note:
Jet Set Radio Future naturally runs pretty eh on Xemu. I'm actually crazy surprised on how well it ran on the switch lite 💀
Yeah, the slowdown is definitely a xemu problem. I think that the game suffers the same issue when playing it on a 360.
This is way more in-depth than what I initially thought I clicked on. Not to mention the way you narrate is very engaging. Great video!
37:29 Take THAT SquareEnix!
Great video:D
You just nailed this video. Best modded Switch video there is out there IMO. The Switch OLED is my favorite due to the removable joycon where you can due a proper flip grip orientation for DS / TATE, use the kickstand for table top and use pro controller 3rd party joypad options. The Lite seems nice for those who need a more portable solution however, I don’t even think it’s that pocketable so they would both need to go into a bag.
cheers for the time and effort, i may try and replace a switch lite screen with this LCD display.. I watch your vids and just zone in and time flies. lol.legend.
Bro you running WC3 and Fable, you get me nostalgic AF, awesome video. Keep it up
I love this so much. The Lite is one of my favorite handhelds of all time, and the only 2 things I've wanted for it were just shown in your video. I'm so excited for that OLED mod! 💚
Old school PSP modder here it's been awhile and this seems exactly what I wanted to know about❤
oh yeah, I'm really looking forward to the Switch OLED mod. I love the form factor but have been wanting a way to connect it to the TV for a long time. Please keep us updated 😁
We have 3 Hard Modded OLED Switch's. Modded Switch's are our favorite handhelds over RP4's, and even the Odin 2. It is the only handheld that plays Switch games perfectly afterall. Loading up a 1TB mSD is amazing.
Does it play ps2 games as good as the Odin?
@@MyVitros no, Odin 2 and even the 1 are still better for ps2 emulation. Though the switch runs a few PS2 titles the simpler ones, Odin 1 runs even more titles and Odin 2 runs all titles 2x the resolution...minimum.
@@MyVitros I don't emulate on the Modded OLED Switch. So many things can play PS2 perfectly including my last 3 phones. Me and my 2 kids typically play Switch games. We have PS5 and gaming PC's too. When we we want emulation, we prefer our phones (SD8 g3) since they are always with us and more powerful then all dedicated Android emulation handhelds. My 6 year old sometimes carries the RP4 on car trips. I may put my Odin 2 on Ebay since it just doesn't fit in to our usage.
When can I buy one?
Do you mod them or do you know who can?
Bruh what do you mean that all I got at the end of the video, this is a ton of awesome content with something brand new about an oled screen replacement that I have seen no where else.
I've seen that mod in Twitter, I've been waiting to watch it
I NEED IT!!
this is awesome thank you, still waiting on that old mod, bought a switch lite just for it
amazing video covering all of this, thank you!
21:48 that ZNES menu hit me hard, that's pure nostalgia right there, before we had internet like 25 years ago me and my brother used to have a CD with spiderman on the cover (lol) called "1001 games", I have no clue where it came from, it had a few emulators but we always played ZNES with a bunch of random roms, a lot of them chinese. It was a blast just firing up a misterious game, messing up with the menus, seeing if it had co-op mode
I had no idea that the switch was moddable. Thanks for the video.
First gen models (Erista) can easily be modded by putting the system into recovery mode (bridging two pins of the JoyCon connector and turning the Switch on with Vol+ and Power buttons) and sending a payload via USB. Later models and the Lite need a modchip. They only cost like 10 bucks but soldering them isn't for the faint of heart.
Great video. Super fascinating deep dive. Very thorough content as always Taki.
Pretty insane that the switch light can emulate switch games 🤯
Awesome video - I think it's your best yet!
I've been dabbling with Moonlight (via the Switch's Horizon OS) to stream Elden Ring to my Switch V1. Now that I've upgraded to a modded OLED I'm looking forward to setting up Android for better streaming performance. I'm surprised you didn't mention Moonlight - even via HOS it seemed pretty capable, but apparently it's muuuuch better via Android because unlike homebrew running in HOS, Android allows full access to the GPU.
And yeah, Duckstation HOS is great. I rediscovered Gran Turismo 2 last year and have been playing it for months on my Switch with widescreen, FPS and content mods. It's amazing, and it sips battery - when I got really carried away I could get over 6 hours from my V1, so I expect >10 hours (not that I'll ever play for that long) from my OLED. ToTK has been gathering dust while I rack up hundreds of hours in a 25 year old racing game that I didn't even like that much when it first came out!
Such an amazing family of machines.
Nice, you uploaded this video right after I modded my Switch Lite LOL. That OLED mod sounds awesome, I can't wait to see your coverage of it.
how can I mod a switch lite?
@@RippingBones A modchip and soldering equipment. It is way outside the expertise of most beginners due to how tiny the soldering is.
Won't it decrease the battery life by a bit?
@@Asad-hv2dc The modchip is only on for a few seconds to glitch the CPU into a payload when you turn it on. Any potential battery life difference is almost nothing.
@@jtchoi2003 yeah lmao i bought a switch lite for 80 dollars and the tiny raspberry pi and tried to do this at my schools fabrication lab, i can no longer turn it on. How did you learn micro soldering?
Huge respect, im pretty sure i bricked it when cleaning off the thermal paste one of those tiny transistors near the APU fell off but im not too sure, i couldnt even get the wire to stay on the points, microsoldering is a whole different level compared to normal soldering which i found pretty easy
really enjoyed this. I appreciate your hard work to bring us this demo.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was mindblowing. I have a modded switch lite lying around and might pick it up to test some of these things if time permits. Thanks Taki
This is some quality content 👌 great to see the Lite using its full potential
maaaaannn 120Dollar for a switch and its MODDDEDDD!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMNNNN
I love my Steam Deck and PS Vita for emulation but for battery and lightness I would love to have a modded switch too.
been waiting for this vid!!!😵💫
I got a brand new Switch lite for 140€ just days before your community post about the OLED mod. There aren't many videos showcasing a modded Switch lite so this is awesome!
Had no idea the Lite was this capable. Great deep dive video.
I mean, all switch lineups use the same hardware, so...
I’ve been all about modding my consoles forever. But now that I have a Steam Deck, I can’t say enough how great it is to trick out a console that isn’t fighting me the whole way. Experience has taught me to be scared each time that I add a new feature to a hacked console. You never know which mod will be the one that finally bricks the unit, or whether it will be possible to fix it. The openness and huge amounts of community support around the steam deck make it just worlds better than any modded console that I’ve ever tried. The deck can do EVERYTHING the Switch does, do it bettter, and do all of the things that are outside of the Switches capabilities. I’ve been loading it up with PS3 and Switch games lately.
Appreciate the work you do Taki, keep it up!
I loooooooove this video and I can imagine how much insane amount of time you have put into this. Definitely one of the best Taki videos!!!!
And now i want to take out my modded switch to tickle it.
Imagine putting the mig switch flashcard in it too. What a super machine
My Switch Lite screen got a pretty unfortunate scratch on it a couple of weeks ago, and I've been itching to do the OLED screen mod shown here rather than just replace it with a regular LCD.
I'm sure you've been asked this a few times, but do you have a (rough?) estimate on when we might see the screen available to the public? When you talk about it being 'relatively easy' to do, does that include any soldering, or can you pull this all off with a screwdriver and some delicate hands?
Words cannot express how excited I am to get my hands on this ASAP!
I'm still waiting for the OLED mod. I hope it gets released.
same here same here cuz it sound like pain to do the chip mod for the oled and cost way too much to do it.
Dude, it's Nintendo, they will never release something cheap for users, if they can just sell a new product
@@Sunr1sen2 lmao you think this is coming from nintendo? It's third party.
@@Sunr1sen2you clearly don't know Nintendo if you assumed they made this
OLED mod is already made lol. look up hwfly
That was a really great video, Taki!!
Thank you for this video! I had not realized that OCA screens existed for the switch lite. I could not, for the life of me, get the touch screen and lcd to line up, and I had dust particles and all kinds of stuff wrong with it. Color accuracy be damned, this is the better option for me. I used your link to buy one and it should arrive just in time for me to install it to play unicorn overlord.
but...
I'm absolutely going to be purchasing an OLED drop in replacement when they are available. Thank you for making us aware of this I can not wait for it!
I have always loved your videos, keep up the great work man, you're a treasure.
The switch was running some games (dead speace, dark souls 2) on wine over ubuntu linux... Pretty impresive.
Probably your best upload ever
Thank you!
Amazing job with the video, the OLED screen looks absolutely crisp!!
Hello Taki. Big fan of your work ....been waiting on that "video out for lite" ....do you think that will be posible with time???
Also, when running Android on switch you get access to Xbox Game Pass as in any phone, to run cloud games. What a time to live in.
Yikes. I'll pass on streaming anything to a device that is limited to 720p.
@@const3llations_370 Bro 720p is already great on a screen that small
@@const3llations_370 Dude, 720p looks great on a screen so small.
@@const3llations_370 theres no reason to go over 1080p most of the time. modern iphones dont go over 1080p as when you are working with screens this small there isnt any point in going higher and it ends up wasting battery.
Hope it doesn't take too long for the Lite OLED mod to release.
I cannot wait for the Lite OLED. I’ve been on a parade of retro console upgrades and shell swaps, and I’m comfortable with screen replacements now
Been waiting for this one!
We need in depth battery and temp tests. I would like to know how much time it would last, how hot it gets and how noisy is the console when running overclocked, depending on the result I may or may not do it.
If battery life is a major concern for you, 2nd gen Switch or OLED model are a better choice. (Lite has the revised "Mariko" chipset, too - else it wouldn't allow for such massive overclocks - but a significantly smaller battery).
It's almost funny how Nintendo has purposefully nerfed a very capable device. I'm willing to sacrifice my Nintendo Switch lite to try and get it half way useful.
Great video. Makes me want to mod my Switch Lite.
I do love your videos. I think i may try and pick up a cheap one once they move over to the switch 2. I have an RP3+ that basically does the same thing or well enough and steam deck for everything else. But would be a fun project I think
Could that run modern world of Warcraft?
how is the switch lite battery life before and after overclocking??
No difference and I use mine at very high clocks much higher than shown in this video
I try to stay below 5w dischargerate and that would give me around 2:30h battery time.
This is insane, and I mean both the effort put into this video as well as the switch lite in terms of what it can do!
Very cool! Would love a video that is a detailed walkthrough on how you got WoW to work. All my best efforts have failed
OLED mod when tho?
NAH THE NINTENDO NINJAS ARE COMING ON THIS ONE🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗨🗨🗨🗨
ayoooo
Hey man,
Great video!
I've got one question: How precisely does the video output via a cable work?
Really loved that you showed off World of Warcraft working on the switch! Such a cool thing to see!
Am i the only one who loves to build these types of devices to never actually play them?
No your not I do it all the time at the moment I’m doing my day 1 switch even tho the games are already on my oled 😂
Haha spent $150 on a psp vita modded it, maybe played it for an hour. 😂
I seem to enjoy carving out time to mod busted systems, to just have them sitting there barely getting played. 😂
Modded my 3DS, my wife's N3DSXL, & my N2DSXL. My 3DS barely sees any action at all (largely because the buttons are about shot, it's why I got my N2DSXL in the first place), and my wife just hasn't played her N3DSXL or her Switch Lite much at all lately.

This looks actually insane, to the point where I was wondering if it was edited
Learnt a lot here mate, thanks

This is pure gold. Please give us updates on the oled panel. I have a lite repair here that is going into a atomic purple shell and would love to drop in an oled panel while Im there
Really looking forward to the OLED + video out mod. If it makes it to retail, I will be buying multiple.
This video is absolutely awesome, thanks for showcasing all that the switch can do.
Glad you liked it!
Had no idea about the OLED replacement screen being worked on. If it hits the price range you mentioned I will get one.
YESSS THIS IS THE EXACT VIDEO I WANTED
It's funny that you put out this video. Because i'm getting a switch lite soon. lol
Killer progress! Next would be some steam-os like GUI for ubuntu
for the sticks, if they ever drift you can get caps for the hall effect ones that are the same color (not caps you put over the stick but replaceable stick parts if that makes sense)
I like the idea of doing upgrades to the Switch Lite that don't really affect the software and using it that way.
I guess if I were to pursue getting a secondhand one that needs easy repairs that someone doesn't want to bother with in one way or another, and if anything was possible, my ideal build would be:
Transparent green shell (Doesn't look like they make them...) Dome Switch buttons (is that a thing anyone has even tried?) and the OLED screen (isn't made yet)
I LOVED ZSNES When I was a kid I remember making Mario world level mods and playing them on ZSNES. Good times!
I seriously need that OLED screen! It looks so good, and I'm (not so) patiently waiting to assemble my broken switch lite with an upgrade.
Very nice Video as allways - must been take a while to produce it. I am looking forward to the Oled Screen for the Switch Lite. Got mine for 220 but in Mint condition and the seller was an fine solderer. I hope that the Process while be easy so i can do it myself - sometimes i destroyed something in the making so i am a bit scared :D About two days ago i broke an almost new 3ds XL in a simple Caseswap .....
It took so long (you can see date stamps throughout the video). I was deep in the rabbit hole 💀
When the screen is available, I'll do guides with a lot of tips/advice.
@@TakiUdon ohh thank you very much for the answer, I'm looking forward to it!
And a big "thank you" to you again! You make so many things easier because new topics can be overwhelming at first. Thanks to your work and your own Words for explanation you quickly see light on the horizon and before you know it, you're having fun with your old consoles
I had a little trip down nostalgia lane earlier today and when you brought up ZSNES I remembered alllll the way back to the late 90s when my dad came out from his computer dungeon office with a few floppy disc's full of cracked games and emulators he must have gotten off some irc channel. He dumped it all on the family computer and that was my introduction to emulation along with my first taste of super Nintendo. Now I don't remember if I was using zsnes or one of the snes96/7/X back then but I will always vividly remember the nes emulator NESticle, with hairy little logo and all.
My favourite mod for the switch has to be the controller support for other controllers. Using a dual sense for gyro is nuts.
Wow on the switchlite running ok just blew my mind
I waited 2 weeks for this video......Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
incredible work, thank you
This is awesome! Wish we could do this with the Odin 2.

As always great video bruh.
I really want that OLED screen. Can't wait for the video!
Good god. This is one heck of a deep dive.
Great vid 🔥
Reeeaaly waiting for the oled screen man. hope it can come sooner rather than later
Oh man i want that oled screen for switch lite so bad... Me and some of my friends have talked about this plenty of times and how perfect the switch light would be with an OLED. But it would be great if the OLED filled the entire space with no borders making the screen bigger. Also they should have done this when they came out with the OLED for the original switch. Hope this works out well.
Was waiting for this❤️❤️
It's really cool how much better the Switch is now that the community has had some time to unlock more of its potential. I use my Switch _way_ more ever since modding it, because it can finally do the things it should have been able to do all along.
This is an amazing video!! I wonder, how does the Ryujinx arm build run compared to the yuzu one? Does it has NCE too?
