As an Odin Lite owner I told myself that I didn't need the Odin 2... this changed when I was given the opportunity to try and buy one of the 100 Super Fan Odin 2 Base, it took me more than one hour refreshing my browser page but somehow I managed to get one, and somehow, it costed me less than my original Odin Lite... I love my Odin 2, the base model is all you need, the 4 GB virtual ram swap is a game changer for switch emulation, thank you to the community for troubleshooting the problem and for giving a quick and easy workaround, and thank you to AYN for listening to the community releasing an official fix so quickly ... Happy New Year everyone and happy gaming🥳🎮
Steam deck OLED is great. I had an Rog Ally but ended up selling it. I use my Miyoo Mini + all the time. Looking forward to the RP4 pro. They’re not for kids at all. Not many kids play retro games.

My favorite thing about my SD OLED is the longevity of it. With game streaming improving over time, once the APU is no longer capable of keeping up with the latest AAA games, it will still have a fantastic screen, audio, controls, battery life, and wifi, making it a perfect streaming handheld. I loved my og deck but it was very worth the difference ($200) for me to sell and upgrade.
Yeah people been talking about how good the longetivity is, like bro the steam deck has been out for 2 years lol. I'll be impressed and be happy to be proven wrong in 10 years if no SD has failed until this point, like an NDS lite today.
Why not just buy the OLED replacement screen offered by ifixit. I'm sure there's other authorized retailers for replacement parts. Valve has a strong promise on right to repair and built it to where its as easy as possible
I would say any device with oculink support has better longevity because you can always hook it up to a graphics card for an extra performance boost when games become more demanding.
3:48 I know exactly what you're talking about here. I've been using the GPD Pocket 3 as my daily work driver (IT tech/eng) for close to two years now. It fits in my chest pocket when I'm on the floor but blows up to a comfy 4 monitor setup at my desk with a basic TB dock. It's a ridiculously versatile pro machine if you can get over the drawbacks...gotta learn how to squint sometimes, learn a scrunched keyboard, and a few other things. Gotta say though, I bought it to double as a mid-powered handheld for gaming as well, but that definitely turned out not to be it's calling...makes the Win Mini look quite appealing though!
Pocket 3 Owner here too. I initailly plan to using it for work/game but as I got a job as a programmer I thought "I should use this for work!" and it's really great. Because of its small size I can fit it in shoulder bag instead of a laptop backpack, it may not seem much but it ease a lot for daily long public transport commute. One thing that didn't aged well is there's only one usb-c port so Ican't charge the device and connect to monitor out at the same time and taht forced me to use HDMI+Dongle combo. It's been a year now and I'm still loving it, but I didn't use it for gaming anymore....so maybe I should also buy Win Mini?
Loki Loki Loki. I was just thinking no one was gonna show the Loki in their year end vids. Watching this while playing SOR4 on my Loki Max. Good ergonomics on the Loki.
I am really enjoying my odin2. I paid the same I did for the odin pro and it plays a lot of ps2 and gamecube games the first one couldn't. Thank you, Taki, for creating the odin and the odin2. You are the best
Odin 2 to me, is the best all around retro handheld. I put battery life at the top of my priorities, and this one delivers. As for handheld PCs, they're still weak with bad battery life for the price you pay
I'm with you there. I wanted the rog Ally but now I can't imagine gaming for hour and having to recharge. Also the Odin can stream locally for PC games
I'm still a bit ambivalent between getting an Odin 2, Steam Deck OLED, or GPD Win 4 (assuming the price is not a problem). I do think having the capability of PS3 and Wii U emulation is better for longevity, but (1) battery life and (2) size are my biggest concerns. (1) After watching RGC and other people's videos, Odin 2's battery life is amazing. Even at a very heavy load, it still takes 4h to drain the battery! 10h to do PS2 emulation is scarily good. The charging separation feature at any battery % is also a great idea. I really love x86 flexibility, but like it or not, their battery life is atrocious for a handheld device. (2) I tried to imagine playing a Steam Deck in, let's say, a cramped underground or a public bus and my brain just said, 'nope'. Odin 2 and Win 4 (I have a soft spot for PSP and Vita, yes) for me has the perfect size. Win 4 is a tad heavy, but I don't think it's that bad. I agree with Taki's criticism of Odin 2, especially since most reviewers didn't mention/think about this. Odin 2 is not a perfect device, its price is a bit high, but I think there's a niche for it. I'll probably get the Pro version since I also play quite a lot of Japanese/Chinese mobile games and 256GB is a perfect size for it. ~~Obviously, if Steam announced that they're releasing a Mini-Steam Deck with the same specs and a 50Wh battery... Yeah that might change things a bit.~~
I feel like the best value now is a used steam deck LCD. I managed to pick up a 64 gig with an included 512 gig SD card for $300. I upgraded the SSD for another 40. I have been really interested in the loki though
Here's what I think are standout buys: - RG Nano: best keychain - RG 353m: best small pocket - RG 35XX+: best cheap pocket - Retroid Pocket 2S: best value pocket - Retroid Pocket 3+: best large pocket - AYN Odin2: best ARM (no size limits) - Valve SteamDeck: best cheap portable - SteamDeck OLED: best value portable - ASUS ROG Ally: best expensive portable - GPD Win-Max-3: best portable (no money limits)
The Odin 2, had gotten one of those (the max variant) since i had upgraded from an Retroid Pocket 3+, as it was quite the upgrade & wanted a more powerful android gaming device, something bigger too. For those who'd want the top model, i wouldn't call that a FOMO purchase, nothing wrong with getting the most beefy one if you can afford it. But anyway, certainly is a nice system so far, and i'll be using it for a long while to come. The Odin 2 Super Dock, was a surprise with what features it has since they aren't stated on the site, like having an ethernet jack & an M.2 SSD port on the top, didn't expect to see something like that. The controls on it, don't see any problem with them & are fine, though i don't look deeply into that kind of thing as some do. Mobile data features not being in there, that's a non-issue for me, since i just use wifi anyway. So in a situation like mine, it'd be worth getting it since it'd be a big upgrade. Don't have any interest in getting some PC handheld, being a bit pointless since i have my main PC that i'd do any PC games & the like on, and i don't see the big fuss over the steam deck really. So yes, while it wouldn't be for everyone & of course, nothing is without flaws, it is the best purpose built android handheld at the moment. Having that kind of power in one is quite good, and not a waste having that hardware in the 2 either (for the max model) worth getting if you didn't already have the previous Odin Pro model. Would keep that otherwise, since most PC's nowadays can emulate PS2 & switch pretty good. But yes, that's just my lengthy take on it, as we all have our opinions on these handhelds, was a good list too.
This is basically why I got an Odin 2 Max as well. Love my RP3+ but the slightly larger form factor and much better performance are what I really want. Friends have told me I should've just got a Steam Deck but I like having a more compact device. Plus I rarely want to play PC games outside of the house so I just use remote play when I'm at home and play retro or android stuff outside, occasionally dipping into more modern indie games via Switch emulation.
Since the addition of the vram feature, there's no need for any more than 8GB of ram for the Odin 2. Literally, the only Switch game unplayable before that update, that would otherwise require the higher ram models, was Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, but since the vram update, the base model handles it just as well as the Pro & Max, pending of course, that you don't have a bunch of other processes running in the background & at purely $300, the Odin 2 is a fantastic value.
I have an Anbernic RG405M, Powkiddy RGB10Max, a backbone ps controller for my phone, and a Steam Deck OLED. I have every single base covered when it comes to portable gaming
I think you were a bit tough on the Odin 2, especially in comparison to your other devices and choices. The Odin 2 Pro for mid 300's is not a steep price to pay, not even close...and to the cost of the GPD win mini? Love the channel and your work, but have to disagree with some of the sentiment on this one...
Thank you!!! I unsubscribed to this channel. He must not have gotten paid off , late shipment or something because he rains praise on the high dollar spec systems but didn’t concentrate on what we want out of our systems which is perfect emulation for what the target market wants. The Odin 2 review sounded personal.
Nah, taki just butthurt and all on AYN company lol nothing to see here. theres a reason why him and retro dodo dont review the odin 2. also after the debacle that is the RP2, hard to take taki seriously now aint it? odin2 is the best retro handheld to date even after a year of its release, SD 8 gen2 at 300? are you kidding me? thats the best price you can get that chip and after all these months of update, i can even play the switch games i like on odin 2 and more!
For me the Retroid Pocket 2S did great... And they have it in green.. (I know they did you dirty but I can't help it, I do enjoy the model/price/performance)
I own both the Odin Pro and the Odin 2 Pro and I thought the remarks on the ergonomics were kind of odd here. The face buttons are slightly smaller though the membranes on the 2 are also more loose which makes them easier to press and slightly less fatiguing on the fingers. I always felt the buttons on the older Retroids and the original Odin were too stiff. They're finally fixed that. The grip on the rear of the Odin 2 is a bit deeper. The analog sticks on the 2 are a massive improvement as they are now Hall sticks and have a greater range of travel as they're not so far recessed into the shell. The speakers on the 2 are now front firing and in a spot where my hands don't easily block them, much like how the Deck's speakers are placed. The addition of an actual BACK button on Odin 2 means I no longer need to swipe at the screen to access the menu in emulators like Dolphin or Mupen. The only ergonomic downgrade I really agree with is that the 2 is heavier. Even so I have zero reason to want to pick up my 1st gen Odin ever again.
I don’t mind the smaller buttons because the feel at least is very close if not the same as first party controllers, but I think compared to the Loki ergonomic wise it’s just not as comfy. The downside of copying that shell though is that the Odin 2 may end up even bigger. As far as the shoulder buttons go I didn’t realize the Loki has quieter switches. I think that might have actually been better. The bigger hall based analog triggers are super smooth and don’t wiggle anymore like on the original Odin, and the analog sticks are also much smoother feeling as well. You can’t get the same analog feel even if you installed GuliKit hall sensors on the original. But I agree it’s a big improvement from Odin 1 and I was pretty happy to sell mine.
Thanks to you and many other channels I found a suitable handheld that I feel comfy with so I needn't constantly buying a new one every few years or so. I'm sure I'll hold onto my Steam Deck for many, many years to come! Happy New Years to all! 🎮🤘
You didn't mention the battery life in the odin 2. You can actually run this thing most of the day without a plugin. Yes they should have made the buttons and sticks bigger, I dunno why they did that, and the lack of a sim slot and a usbc on top to charge sucks, but it's a killer handheld.
I hated his review for this. Negative and sounded personal for the odin 2 and I’ve had nothing but praise for it. A few negatives but nothing to the point that he had to shit all over it.
Crazy how the Powkiddy RGB30 gets the shaft in a lot of these best of 2023 vids. I know Powkiddy has a spotty reputation but the RGB30 is fantastic. I'm in love with that screen.
I think because it’s a niche device to most people. Likewise I don’t see a lot of love for the RG Arc (wonderful for Sega games). He could have done a niche category.
I wish Valve would release a Steam Deck mini with a 5-6 inch screen and a quiet fan solution. I primarily use my handhelds for gaming in bed, so a smaller form factor with the unbeatable price:performance ratio of a Steam Deck would be fantastic. I stopped using my Steam Deck for an RG505 running Steam Link, if that explains how valuable screen size/low noise is to me.
A 5.5" steam deck is my ideal. My main usage is on the train to and from work, and the Steam-deck is just too big for that, which is a shame as it ticks every other box.
I sold my SD OLED for an Odin 2. Odin 2 provides what SD can't, a true handheld experience. Holding the SD was like holding a giant tablet with handles. Not really a nice experience when you just want to relax.
Omg I've been trying to decide between the two for ages. The decks screen is what's really making me reconsider my Odin 2 purchase (on the way) but glad to hear this and reaffirms my decision
I started on a crap amazon nes handheld. Moved to an gkd350, then retroid pocket 2. Finally, I got myself an rg351v. Love it. Havnt gotten anything since. Don't need anything else since.
Great video. Not really a fan of the oversized 'handhelds' so many of those are not for me. My personal favorite was the Powkiddy RGB30 - which fits my needs of pocketable, plays GB, GBA and GBC games which are primarily what I like on a portable. I get the whole wanting a powerful handheld but I would just never use it as when I'm home I would rather play on the XB, docked Switch or PS5 and when I'm out I want super portable and quick pickup/put down games. Again - enjoyed the video!
I love my Steam Deck OLED. It has nearly everything I always wanted in a handheld. I owned the first GPD Win and I saw the potential for a PC handheld, but there were just too many issues and drawbacks. The SD OLED fixes or significantly improves all of those. It's just such a cool piece of tech in so many different ways. Still, there are things that could be improved, of course. I would actually prefer it to be smaller, ideally. And I wish Reshade worked on it in a more straightforward manner. Compatibility with games is quite good overall, but it could still be better. And more performance would always be nice to have. I understand, though, that it's a balancing act. And the Steam Deck OLED nails it given the current state of technology and other considerations. I'm very happy with it. I look forward to future developments in this game hardware category.
Odin 2 Pro is my 1st retro-gaming handheld device + Genshin Impact. I think this device is for a long ride. Can't get Steamdeck OLED, it's OP here in Manila, plus i do have a high end desktop. Awesome content btw.
Are you going to do a video about the odin 2? Trying to gather as much info as possible to make a decision. Your input is always greatly valued. Keep up the good work.
Just got my GPD Win Mini a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving it! I've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 which looks and plays great at a solid 30fps (with the steam deck preset). Lighter games like Hades & Dead Cells can take full advantage of the 120hz screen, or I can cut the power down for less heat and noise and still hit a solid 60fps. And it fits in most of my pockets!
I love my Win Mini but I do hate the audio clipping and popping when going under 10w tdp and the trackpad is trash for anything precise such as click and drag or scrolling a menu list.
@@tomoprime217 yeah, I have noticed some garbled audio at lower wattages, but depending on the game I can get down to 6-8w and still have it sound and play good. Setting the refresh rate to 60hz might to also help
@@nfriedly the best bargain I can get is limit the framerate to 40fps @120hz. One way to prove the sound driver sucks is to then bump up the framerate to 60fps or higher to hear clipping. If 60Hz truly is the answer then I wish GPD just gave us the Win4 landscape hardware mod which sticks us at 60hz with less fullscreen issues.
I own many, inclusive expensive ones like gpd win 4, win max 2, deck 512gb or the one xplayer and i hace to say that i bought the odin 2 pro on igg and it has been the best of all.
I’ve got a deck and went for the ally because of windows and it’s vrr screen. Since I’m not a Linux guy I haven’t been able to add any mods to games I played on the deck or even do other more simple stuff 😝 Absolutely happy with my ally and played so many games on it. In terms of emulation that’s still the job of my „old“ Odin Pro. Still love it and it comfortably does what I want from it. Would definitely buy from Ayn again … maybe next Odin will make sense for me again 😛
@@glazedbelmont yeah Taki even admitted to not running it at higher tdps which I would need to do for some of the heavier emulators and heavier PC games as well
"a complete redesign to fix" If you just put some thermal tape on the sd card reader so it sits between the reader and the copper thermal tube, it is fixed. I agree, you should not have to do this, and Asus "ought" to be fixing that for free, but it doesn't require an entire redesign.
Yeah, the DPAD has the highest temps on the revised model. That was the temp of the entire bottom half with the original shell. Great handheld with a few cons.
This was an awesome list, and I love how you made categories for everything although I do disagree with your top pick as the steam deck just isn’t a handheld to me, it’s just way too big.
I bought a RG405M on March. But after the R1 button of mine stopped working I replaced it with a RP3+. Now I'm waiting to get a RP4 Pro in January to achieve that sweet spot regarding PS2 and GC emulation. Happy 2024 for you! 🎉
What would you pick for a docked-only gaming system? Like, a cheap and quiet little Linux-based box which would be hooked up to a HDMI 1080p screen and USB / wireless controller?
@@mr.bright Which is all you need really as with virtual RAM all the higher models are pointless, considering u can just use a fast sd card to upgrade the storage on the device as well.
Have you done "best budget, etc. Devices for specific consoles?" Like, here's the best devices to play NES/PSP games, etc? Buttons, d-pad, screen ratios, battery life, upscaling, could all be criteria for reviews.
The FPS mode on the Legion is a neat idea but I'm not really sold on it since it requires a solid surface and you might as well bring a regular mouse then.
What if you're sitting on a chair (eg train) and wearing jeans. Can you perhaps use your lower thigh (above knee) as a flat-ish surface for the mouse feature? Would that work? Would it be comfortable? Is it a viable option?
18:40 I think you're chatting nonsense mate. This is leagues better than the Odin 1. What do you mean slightly better PS2 performance lol. This can do some pretty good switch emulation.
Those Tetris handhelds weren't uncommon many years ago before the 2000s. I didn't have a nugget one, and it was actually a lot better in many ways. It may seem reductant when we have smartphones and retro game portables, but Tetris only handhelds have a nice screen thats kind on the eyes, simple oicknup and play, light, and battery last ages on them.
and even Gameboy wanna be handhelds existed and were sold in stores here too. I would say handhelds outside the big ones alwasy had a place in retail before this boom we have now. I think the mobile revolution put that on hold for a bit and we have the Switch success, and the subsequence emergence of retro and PC handhelds.
Hi Taki Udon, I love your videos and your reviews of retro handhelds and gaming devices. I was wondering if you could cover Moonlight and Sunshine combo, which is the best and yet open source game streaming apps in one of your future videos. I use it daily with my phone + a telescopic controller, which I think is a cheaper alternative than buying a handheld console. The development of Sunshine is rapid and now is the time to see how good of an option it is. Thanks for your awesome content and keep up the good work! 🎉
Hi, I just want to play Tekken 7/8 on the go, which handheld will you recommend in terms of performance and control. I think you're the best guy to ask with. Thanks!
Wow I wasn't expecting such a negative breakdown on the Odin 2 as almost every other tech TH-camr including Etaprime gives it stellar reviews! I am curious...Taki has your opinion changed at all since launch on the Odin 2? My purchase was largely based on battery life, but I am really disappointed that I ordered the base as I was not aware some Switch games won't run! :/ So I may re-sell via eBay & go for a Pro model instead.
Slightly better in terms of something not running at all, to being able to run. Not in terms of being able to upscale and not use safe hacks. I should have clarified this.
Yeah fair, but there is a huge difference between being able to run something with some hacks at 1x resolution compared to >1080p imo. Regardless, great video - hope you have a good new year!
It’s getting some mixed reviews. Retroid seems to believe that you can just increase performance and change little else. That old 4.7” iPhone screen with over sized bezels is looking dated now, especially compared with the Odin’s Lite’s 6” 1080p at the same price. Anything 4:3 (retro) displays at just 3.8” so just play it on a cheaper handheld.
Thank you for a full year of info... and for the RP3+. I have to ask: why did you disregard the flip entirely? Did you develop the RP4 too? Will it have flip as well? Happy new year to you and your family. Take care.
Flip was considered, but I found there were better options in the category that it would fit in. I did not work on the team that did RP4, or any future versions of Flip. Happy New Year to you too!
Thanks for the video. Did you feel any input lag as some people mention on Odin 2? You can even see some on the video actually, but I am also curious about your opinion.
Tap dance? I never even did a review on it. "...a mix of MTK and Snapdragon handhelds that were either too expensive or too little too late." I encourage you to look at the Odin videos that I made for the original devices. I was critical of many things about the handhelds and the project. People seem to have amnesia.
I’ve watched many of these handheld videos but not one has clarified if we can play doubles, meaning ie can we gay two handhelds and fight two players on tekken?
Nothing beats the asus rog ally, I love that handheld so much. I have a gaming laptop, Xbox series x and ps4, but I don’t touch any of them and haven’t been into videogames lately. But now with the rog ally, I’ve been back into video gaming, is so much fun and much more personal experience. And it runs games very well with no problems. So far I finished hellblade, I’m playing dead space 2 next. For online games I’m playing the finals, battlefield 1, and ea sports fifa 24. IM HAVING SO MUCH FUN ON THIS HANDHELD
Hey Taki! I’m fairly new to the channel and wanted to know if you’ll ever do a review on the Anbernic 405m? I’ve been hearing a lot of positives around it and just wanted your opinion on the device!
I owned SD, Ally and Legion Go, and prefer Legion Go. I can use it as tablet, and it has large screen. Lenovo isn’t good at software, but they are pushing fixes pretty frequently which is nice. It is subjective to each persons need I think.
The Legion Go has improved leap and bounds in terms of software. I'd argue that it's the best windows base handheld in the market. I know VRR, and the Go doesn't have it, but the screen size is really a game changer and everything looks fantastic. If anyone is on the fence for it, just do it. It's beautiful.
You didn't include my Lenovo Legion Y700 2023 8.8'' Tablet with GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Gaming Controller(modded) 8.8 screen, snapdragon gen 1 , x2 Type-C ports, pass through charging, full size game controller, £400 but worth every penny.
Happy New Year and happy gaming. 🎆

Can't beat the value of a used Deck.
That price to performance is amazing.
Here's what I think are standout buys:
- RG Nano: best keychain
- RG 353m: best small pocket
- RG 35XX+: best cheap pocket
- Retroid Pocket 2S: best value pocket
- Retroid Pocket 3+: best large pocket
- AYN Odin2: best ARM (no size limits)
- Valve SteamDeck: best cheap portable
- SteamDeck OLED: best value portable
- ASUS ROG Ally: best expensive portable
- GPD Win-Max-3: best portable (no money limits)
Don't forget moonlight!
This
@@TakiUdonbesides 8 gigs of memory is a lot. Anything past that is overkill for a lot of consoles. That's why I went with the Odin 2 Base.
Been super happy with my R36s, heaps of fun on a budget
For me the Retroid Pocket 2S did great... And they have it in green..
(I know they did you dirty but I can't help it, I do enjoy the model/price/performance)
Got a retroid pocket flip and a miyoo mini plus.
Best things I bought this year
I own both the Odin Pro and the Odin 2 Pro and I thought the remarks on the ergonomics were kind of odd here.
I m planning to sell my drck and get a more powerful pc so I can stream games. SD doesn't allow hosting stream game.
@@What7YiYue It would allow hosting a stream game if you installed windows.
@@phattiger1506 Yep, that is 100% the problem with the Steam Deck... it hits every selling point, until you need it to be a true portable.
I sold my SD OLED for an Odin 2. Odin 2 provides what SD can't, a true handheld experience. Holding the SD was like holding a giant tablet with handles. Not really a nice experience when you just want to relax.
Indeed...🤣
Omg I've been trying to decide between the two for ages. The decks screen is what's really making me reconsider my Odin 2 purchase (on the way) but glad to hear this and reaffirms my decision
Battery life. Nobody needs a f-ing BRISKET-sized handheld that lasts as long as an overpowered gaming laptop. 😂
I started on a crap amazon nes handheld. Moved to an gkd350, then retroid pocket 2. Finally, I got myself an rg351v. Love it. Havnt gotten anything since. Don't need anything else since.
I like how there's so many categories that you can basically fit most even remotely good handhelds in them
Odin 2 is a great device to play mobile Android game such as Genshin Impact, Honkai Star rail.
2024 handheld linup gon' b 🔥
Steam Deck OLED and Miyoo Mini Plus are the ones that go in my bag
Question. How is the gaming scene in Manila
Love mine aswell. Is so good👌 niche product indeed. And you can literally pocket this and have media and games on the go
@@liviup6660 I'm waiting on the Mini 2, with possible battery & native landscape screen improvements. But if I could I'd definitely buy the Mini 1.
Since I’m not a Linux guy I haven’t been able to add any mods to games I played on the deck or even do other more simple stuff 😝
Absolutely happy with my ally and played so many games on it.
In terms of emulation that’s still the job of my „old“ Odin Pro. Still love it and it comfortably does what I want from it. Would definitely buy from Ayn again … maybe next Odin will make sense for me again 😛
Thanks to you Ive bought a Retroid Pocket Flip, and love it A LOT. Even bought a friend one.
My favorite handheld is Rog Ally because beat in performance all those that you mentioned 😂
I have never had Handheld Emulation but I am interested in these devices and want to get one so thanks for introducing me to these devices
If the set up right emulation can be great. I set up my emudeck on my steam deck I can now play xenosaga and road rash 2 on the go.
@@Jrome4lifeok I see I hope you are having fun
My issue with the ROG Ally is that it kills sdcards and requires a complete redesign to fix which is why I am personally looking at the Legion Go
The fact that they have yet to do a revision to fix it in hardware instead of trying to fix it in software speaks volumes
@@glazedbelmont yeah Taki even admitted to not running it at higher tdps which I would need to do for some of the heavier emulators and heavier PC games as well
The Steam Deck does too. I don't know why SD cards have suddenly become so difficult.
"a complete redesign to fix"
If you just put some thermal tape on the sd card reader so it sits between the reader and the copper thermal tube, it is fixed. I agree, you should not have to do this, and Asus "ought" to be fixing that for free, but it doesn't require an entire redesign.
@@No_True_Scotsmanit does not. Where does this idea come from?
What handheld is the tiny turquoise one in the intro?
I'm rocking a Ayaneo Air 1s, it was a pain in the arse to wait for but I love my time with it.
how i wish i can afford a handheld but all i can do is watch taki :') Happy New Year Sir Taki! 🥰🥰🥰 God Bless Always to your career! 🥰🥰🥰
I have the new gpd mini, and the new model is still warm, and in the dpad area, is the most warm zone, but is a awesome handheld
Yeah, the DPAD has the highest temps on the revised model. That was the temp of the entire bottom half with the original shell. Great handheld with a few cons.
This is the first I’m hearing of this mcnugget tetris and I immediately bought 3
This was an awesome list, and I love how you made categories for everything although I do disagree with your top pick as the steam deck just isn’t a handheld to me, it’s just way too big.
my fav STEAMDECK OLED + PSVITA 2K.
I bought a RG405M on March. But after the R1 button of mine stopped working I replaced it with a RP3+. Now I'm waiting to get a RP4 Pro in January to achieve that sweet spot regarding PS2 and GC emulation. Happy 2024 for you! 🎉
Rog ally owner- I love it. No regrets- would buy Oled edition
I would have liked to hear your thoughts, positively or negatively, on the Analogue Pocket.
Cheers Taki. Best wishes for 2024.
8GB Base Odin 2 runs all switch game great, just like Max :)
Base is the way
@@TakiUdon Yeah, while everyone said Max is the way for Switch, but i'm playing BotW 30fps handheld mode 1x and ToTk close to it on my Base
Retroid pocket 2S didnt make the list but i love it … great content as always !
What would you pick for a docked-only gaming system? Like, a cheap and quiet little Linux-based box which would be hooked up to a HDMI 1080p screen and USB / wireless controller?
Great video! Sure seems like the Odin 2 is the best handheld bang for the buck ever.
Only the base model...
Happy Gregorian New Year Taki and fam!
Best, best handhelds of 2023 video out there🎉
I wanted the 35xx+ except my original 35xx is 99% used for tetris and Dr. mario so its good enough
I use mine for Legacy of Goku 2 and Pokemon Red Modded Rom.
The FPS mode on the Legion is a neat idea but I'm not really sold on it since it requires a solid surface and you might as well bring a regular mouse then.
This is a fair point
What if you're sitting on a chair (eg train) and wearing jeans. Can you perhaps use your lower thigh (above knee) as a flat-ish surface for the mouse feature?
Would that work?
Would it be comfortable?
Is it a viable option?
You could do it, but it would be worse than just using the joystick. You really want a mousepad for smooth movement.@@ekinteko
@@TakiUdon True.
I guess there's not much space for the mouse function. Thanks for the reply!
true, but it's nice to have an all in one solution and you can just use the controllers as detachable like the switch
What is the best for ps2 and Game Cube? Under 150€
18:40 I think you're chatting nonsense mate. This is leagues better than the Odin 1. What do you mean slightly better PS2 performance lol. This can do some pretty good switch emulation.
Taki = my number 2 favourite when it comes to the why's what's and how's of mobile handhelds 😅
Happy New Year to you and your fam! Thanks for the great videos!!!!
Thank you too
Wow, the Legion Go does sound like one of the handhelds ever.
Happy new year and Happy gaming Taki 😊
We need a smartphone handheld category
Hi Taki Udon, I love your videos and your reviews of retro handhelds and gaming devices. I was wondering if you could cover Moonlight and Sunshine combo, which is the best and yet open source game streaming apps in one of your future videos. I use it daily with my phone + a telescopic controller, which I think is a cheaper alternative than buying a handheld console. The development of Sunshine is rapid and now is the time to see how good of an option it is. Thanks for your awesome content and keep up the good work! 🎉
The Ally is absolutely terrific!
Honestly I’d say Legion go is the best handheld that can be turned into a desktop. It runs games great, and I use it as my main pc.
bro what is the brand of your yellow USB-C cable? I'm dying to know
Hi, I just want to play Tekken 7/8 on the go, which handheld will you recommend in terms of performance and control.
Weird take on the Odin 2 imo. It's not just "slightly better" PS2/GC emulation..?
Slightly better in terms of something not running at all, to being able to run. Not in terms of being able to upscale and not use safe hacks. I should have clarified this.
Yeah fair, but there is a huge difference between being able to run something with some hacks at 1x resolution compared to >1080p imo.
Regardless, great video - hope you have a good new year!
I know that people are gonna love the rp4/pro already. Its small and powerful enough to kinda achive some high end emukation.
I don't get all the hate for odin2 when u was tap dancing for the ayaneo pocket air with dimensity 1200.
Tap dance? I never even did a review on it.
"...a mix of MTK and Snapdragon handhelds that were either too expensive or too little too late."
I encourage you to look at the Odin videos that I made for the original devices. I was critical of many things about the handhelds and the project. People seem to have amnesia.
Thank you sir for this update....
I’ve watched many of these handheld videos but not one has clarified if we can play doubles, meaning ie can we gay two handhelds and fight two players on tekken?
Love my R36S! Played it more than my pc games. Doing Grandia now on PSX, since i didn't play it when i was younger. 50€ well spent!
happy new year taki!
ROG Ally is the best!!!!!! 🥳
@Takiudon - Great video as always! Is Retroid going to send you a Pocket 4 a bit early to look at? Always hyped for a Taki drop 😎
Hey Taki! I’m fairly new to the channel and wanted to know if you’ll ever do a review on the Anbernic 405m? I’ve been hearing a lot of positives around it and just wanted your opinion on the device!
Miyo mini plus is the mvp of life. Onion is insane.
I owned SD, Ally and Legion Go, and prefer Legion Go. I can use it as tablet, and it has large screen. Lenovo isn’t good at software, but they are pushing fixes pretty frequently which is nice. It is subjective to each persons need I think.
Been waiting on this one! Thank you!
RG35XX Plus ♥
Did you create the rp4?
He didn’t. He already talked about it
Ohh, nice thanks for the vid.
Happy new year Taki, I want to ask about retroid?? did the lastest one not fill your expectations?
I considered flip and 2s, but there were better handhelds for the categories that would fit them.
You didn't include my Lenovo Legion Y700 2023 8.8'' Tablet with GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Gaming Controller(modded)
8.8 screen, snapdragon gen 1 , x2 Type-C ports, pass through charging, full size game controller, £400 but worth every penny.
This is tempting 🤔
You didn't do a video on the Ayn Odin 2 and that sucked
