      Yea a lot of guys just listen to strictly bass music or music with slow and artificial bass so they have no idea about SQ when it comes to metal, jazz rock jazz etc.. A lot of subs sound decent for bass music or rap. But when you get into music with fast percussion and natural percussion its whole different ball game. Thats why I bring it up in my videos. I like subs that can do it all as I listen to everything. And I have a good ear which is kind of a curse in some ways ..lol thanks man for watching I appreciate it!

      As someone who listens to metal and has the SDR, it doesn't have that kick I would like. That's why I am watching this video to see which of these subs I should get to replace it.

    The SVR and DDX are the most slept on skar subs. For some reason people go from sdr to EVL. I really like the SVR for a LOUD budget setup. DDX if you want any more. But the sdr is the budget king. I've built so many systems with them. Most non bass head people think a pair of sdr 12s in the skar box is insane.

    • @HiFiVector
      @HiFiVector  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree 100%. And for a cheap sub the SDR's are decent sub. But he SVR is a big step up for not that much more money. And DDX for shear volume / SPL cant be beat for the price. You are right people seem to overlook the SVR and DDX and go from SDR to EVL. Hopefully this video will help give people in info to try the SVR and DDX.

Would appreciate if anyone can let us know the sound quality of the sundown SA 12 rev3 vs the SA 12v2 on fast beats, great review bro.

    Uuuum.... Truth be told the DDX can take a huge load of power. I've had 4 DDX 12's on a Taramps MD 8k for over a year now and let me tell ya. These subs are severely underrated. My Maxima hates them.😅

      @@HiFiVector I will say this.... I noticed a difference in performance between two separate amps. At first I had them on a Hifonics Alpha 3000 watt amp for a few months which only puts out around 2000 watts but the subs played lows that the Taramps just couldn't reproduce no matter how I tuned it. They can definitely get low but not for just any amp.

      @@keithmagnifico4164 You are correct, what you heard is the difference between Half Bridge and Full bridge. Buy you are correct between those 2 amps the Alpha will hit the lows better. And some subs its not really noticeable and some its very noticeable going form half to fullbridge.

      @@AlmightyyCres The MD series is my favorite because it can do rated power down to 12 volts. The Bass series create a better sound but don't let it get below 14 volts or it won't do the rated power. I had two of the Smart 3's which do rated power at 1 and 2 ohms but not as efficient at 2 ohms... A real power hungry amp. I noticed that the lows didn't hit as hard with them as compared to my Hifonics Brutus and Alpha amps for some reason. Not a big fan of the HD series but it's good for running mids and highs in my opinion.

    You forgot to mention how all of this can be changed with box size and tuning. Each sub has different characteristics in different enclosures and with different tuning.. I've put my vd 10s in 3 different boxes (sealed, Qbomb dual 10 and Skars dual 10 inch box) and each one has completely different sounds and characteristics . The vd's were almost silent in a sealed box but sound good as spl in the qbomb at 40hz. my SDR 10s, the Qbomb box made the subs sound harsh and better for rock only. I put them in the Skar dual box and they became great for hip hop due to the violent lows. I then added a wedge to the back of the port in the Skar box to lower tuning to 32hz and the subs now sounds like sq subwoofers. Also my audio control amp sounds different than my Taramps amplifier on each sub setup. So many variables to consider when installing a subwoofer setup.

Big 3, 2awg welding cable to fused distro, short run of 4awg to amp. I was floored after getting it playing. Was not expecting 2 cheap 10's ($90 each) to get that loud. I listen to all genres, but like playing metal loud and would have to (politely) disagree about double-kick bass sounding sloppy or boomy. Mines is tight bro. • @radiospank
    @radiospank ปีที่แล้ว

    By punchy and peaky, can you clarify more? When I think of punchy I think of good top end response, 80-120 hz, when I think of peaky I think of large spike in 40-50 hz region, boomy is lots of muddle low freq like 25-35 hz where it’s over powering

    • @HiFiVector
      @HiFiVector  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By punchy I mean good hard hitting “punch” like when a kick drum hits. When I say “slappy “ it is similar to punchy but has a more whip cracking snap to the punch. So punchy is a good articulate but smooth bass hit and slappy is less smooth and more dry and harsh. By boomy I mean there is resonating tones ( ringing) that aren’t supposed to be there. Boomy can be from ringing or from bad transient response where notes get muddied or mixed together. So these have nothing really to do with frequency specifically but a way to describe the sound. When I say peaky I mean the sub has a narrow range or it’s louder in a narrow range. So it makes certain hz be louder than other hz which. Technically is not good for SQ but a lot of SPL subs are made to be peaky to out out good SPL numbers in a certain range. Keep in mind this is just my way of explaining things. :)

    You missed one of the most important elements of a system's set up. I always go big AF but NEVER run ported boxes.. They're shit. Just creating resonance and basically overtones instead of clean, crisp, hard hitting bass. I run 3 L7 12" in sealed boxes (and you don't see my speakers' under the seats) and it's super clean. It'll knock cups out of their holders. No distortion. No high school broke ass sound. No rattling. Oh, and my kids like it (but not too loud) too. I'm giving skar a shot but not hoping for much considering the price is less than half of the L7s. Cheers fellas.

      Ported boxes can sound xlnt if they are designed correctly and used with a good Sounding sub. But all depends on the sub and the box.

    Since when does sdr have stitched surrounds? We have 2 12's and 2 18's and neither have stitched surrounds.

      With box rise, give those things at least 1000 W apiece true power so a 2000 W mono block. Man a lot of it is personal preference or brand preference but here’s a couple budget options that I would choose..
