    They need a lot of power to hit lower notes louder. Also, being higher Q they should really be in a bigger net volume box to really shine in the lows. Being a 12 with a 3” coil but an 166 oz mag I wouldn’t expect this sub to be that loud on low power. The skar svr is an excellent sub for sound quality and low hz bass reproduction. Definitely one of my favorite skar subs besides the vxf…

    I also use a 5k precision power black ice amp with big 3 upgrade along with 2 yellow top optima batteries I have gain set to about 23volts and this single evl 12D4 bridged down to 2ohm does indeed make some noise!

    Had this set up and it was pretty good but my box got damaged and I put the two woofers and a custom box two cubic foot per woofer tuned at 36 and wow they're about 25% better I don't think the scarbox is that great.

    I went with this bass package from skar it makes me happy they sound pretty good in my 09 tahoe. Plenty of bass on the inside of the car not a ton of rattle on the outside I like them now to replace the interior speakers to keep up with them lol.

    My boy had one in his Ford edge in a sealed JL wedge box and it would only hit good on low notes, wasn't that loud outside the car but inside that one evil 12 surprisingly loud on anything low lower than 40 Hertz

    1 thing u need to watch for is those Allen head bolts on the plastic spider ring when giving these subs around 1500 to 2k rms each the cone will bottom out to far and hit those spider ring bolts and put dimples in ur cone everywhere there's a bolt head on that spider ring and I have to torque those bolts back down snuggly about once every couple months on daily use and I have my evl 12s in the same box as u . 1 thing when I tested box frequency I got 38 htz and I retested many many times never got lower than 37.5 htz most was 38- 38.8 htz.

      It’s to bad they didn’t use 3/4” these subs flex a lot and are heavy. Other than that it’s a nice box.

    • @joshholden8561
      @joshholden8561 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HiFiVector yea 3/4 would been nicer but 5/8 is good enough next time u have a sub pulled out take a L shaped Allen wrench and put on the bolts holding down the spider ring and I bet u anything they will take at least a 1/4 or 1/2 turn to be tight when u check u will be surprised I've had around 10 different evl subs and every single 1 gets un snugged as u play the sub for awhile with alot of power on them just something to keep in mind u have to put a dab of glue across the bolts on the spider ring if u Don't ur gonna have the head of the bolts leaving deep dimple in the cone. I would show u pictures but u can't post pics on youtube.

    Debating getting these. I just went thru hell buying and returning multiple amps and now speakers too. I plan on keep8ng my current D4S JP33 amp but im frustrated because the only way I can get my soundstream t5 12s to hit like they used to with my old school soundstream picasso 2k is by turning the gain up to the point where I can smell my subs burning, no bueno. Ive been a soundstream guy for years and havent heard much else that hits the lows the same. Ive had soundstream so long that Im super rusty on whats good now. The skars can handle more watts but if they dont hit the lows right, I wont be happy and these restocking fees are killing your boy lol. Any suggestions for super low bass subs that will hit pushing bout 3k? Im also wondering if I get a bass reconstruction eq if that will force lower frequencies or nah?

      EVL are not crap at all as with everything in this world, they do have their pros and cons as well as the American base XR’s. The XR’s hit the lows better, and have very good sound quality, but they are not as musically accurate but they are great subwoofers I like them a lot. The XR’s are still pretty good with their transient response and accuracy as far as the EVL it is a very accurate subwoofer with excellent transient response way better than a lot of other subs on the market that I have heard it’s downfall is it doesn’t quite hit the lows as well, and it’s not quite as loud overall but it’s a great sounding musically accurate sub. so it just depends on what you prefer. Can you give up a little bit of accuracy for more volume and better under 33 hz lows? Or would you give up a little bit of the lows and volume for a more musically accurate subwoofer with better transit response?
