What is BL? I've never heard the term. Getting back into car audio and looking to upgrade my setup. Currently running 2 taramps amps for highs with prv mids and skar audio tweeters. 1 vxf12 wired to 1 ohm on a skv2 2500.1. What's subs would you recommend if you went to a dual 12s vs what I'm currently running? Maybe 2 American bass xfl 12s?
The VXF are some of the best subs you will ever find for the price. I used to run 4 15s in a small c pillar 6th order. Was clamping 9k on them and doing 157.3db at 38hz. From the c pillar. Great subs with a lot of motor force that sound great with any music. Hard to beat.
@Bigislandguy I built my own custom subs. 6 15s, quad stack motor, 3" coil, 40mm xmax 1 way and about 2k rms. I have about $350 in each of these for the parts. The only thing better about these than the VXF is the xmax. These do make a bit more wind than the VXF but the VXF are definitely just as loud. The motor force on the VXF is actually a lot higher than these also. They have good strong motors. For the price I honestly wish I would have just gotten 2 more of the VXF instead of building my own.

I had a VXF 15 for a few years on my crescendo audio symphony s1 Plus... Good sounding sub. Recently upgraded to a B&C Pro-Driver (15" TBW 100s) and it is on a completely different level for music. The most pleasing subwoofer I've ever had in the car...hits way better throughout the range... It has no high roll surround and is much quicker than the others because of its design. Made in Italy. I'm running it at 4 ohms instead of the 2 on the VXF so easier on the electrical. It has pleasing deep tones throughout the range instead of the VXF which focused on the lower end.

Hoping to get my install done tomorrow that includes a single VXF 12 on a smart bass 3k. My last sub was a Sundown X12 on a Wolfrom C2400. It was a low end monster, but a one note wonder.
I had a skar evl 12 with skars hard shell 12” ported box. Recently I mounted the evl backwords and was impressed with the difference. More cu helped I guess. Recently swapped one of my 2 evl for a VXF And I will shortly be getting a seconds VXF Hard to tell the difference even side by side playing but you can feel it in the lows

My pick is VXF all day, being an SQ kinda guy that does like droppin' quad once in a while. Out of about 10 different subs I've been looking at for an upgrade, the VXF made it to the final round of eliminations, losing only to the winner I ended up getting, the Sundown U-18. I would've been perfectly happy with the VXF, though.

I have an EVL-18D2. Love it. Put it in a 4.5cu ported (31.5hz) box. Sounded like ass in everything except Hip Hop and bass music, but it did that extremely well! Then tossed it into a 3cu sealed box. Hit hard, tight, and accurate. Great for my Metal and Rock.
The ported box was probably not tuned correctly, or the port volume was too big. I see that a lot in boxes where people don’t know how to tune them accurately and don’t know what port area to use. Maybe the reason it didn’t sound musicals because someone tuned it to like 25 Hz or something Or used an incorrect port area? You would not believe how many people custom boxes are not built to specs anywhere near what they were supposed to. I see it all the time.
Accuracy = produces sound as it is recorded and the subwoofer itself can keep up with the bass it is trying to reproduce,keeping it clean. Some subs can not keep up with the music so you get a fuzzy type sound or muddy sound.
Im around 60% deaf and hear mostly from my left ear. I got the ZVX15V2D2 and love it! I have two loaded into a custom box in my WJ jeep and they flex the jeep pretty hard too and push a ton of air. I mostly feel bass more than I can hear it. I am interested in buying a set of the VXF just to see if I notice a difference. Currently also running them on a 4k rms amp but I feel like they can take way more power.
@1hunda100 Then dont max out your volume turn it up until its not clipping then adjust gain. Whats happening is your head unit is clipping the signal before getting to the amp
They can't take a smart 5k 😂 learned this from experience. And people everywhere saying VXF is the SPL and the ZVX is the SQ. I agree it's not an SQL, I went from ZVX to a ZV6 and the ZV6 just had impressive punch compared to the ZVX. I loved my ZVX, but it lacked the punchy definition like you said. It slammed at just low and loud rebass songs.
I agree with you on the Smart 5k! My ZVX lasted under 2 minutes before going up in smoke.... literally.... with my Smart 5k pushing it (Yes it was fully broken in before I gave it the beans)! Now I'm going up to move up to the Orion HCCA 12SPLX and a Taramps MD12000.1
I have been looking to upgrade, I'm mainly a metal guy. I am running a budget banger right now. 3/ 15 inch hifonics titans that are discontinued. Been beating these things for 3 years now and they still look and sound great. I'm running a crunch 3500 mono block amp, yes I know it's not pushing 3500 watts. The VXF 12s get pretty low I love those subwoofers they’re one of my favorite 12s but the 15’s get a little lower but you can fit two of those 12s in the space of one 15”.
VXF all day. I listen to rap and metal. Sound quality with quick transient for that double pedal action is what I’m talking about. Audio control DSP and SQ amps mids and tweets got that staging! F yeah time to 🎸 rock out!
i’m running a rp.2000 and a box that’s around 4.5 or 5 cubic ft and tuned to 31hz. i wanna be able to move a lot of air on lower hz music but i want it to be loud with regular rap music, which should i get?

Don’t go by the fs. They both will play those frequencies well. Go by what sound characteristics you are looking for … clean tight punchy vxf …or smooth, less punchy not as musically accurate but more air movement zvx…
Killer video brother I went the VXF 15 D2 and not disappointed at all love it I just wish I had a bigger amp. running a RP 1200 right and it’s not even close to what I need from the sound of it thinking of going with the Stimger MT 1500 . Hopefully one day soon I got it in skars 15 inch box tuned at 32hz I’m not sure it’s really 32 honestly.
Well witch one hits harder man I already bought two zvxs and I have them on a 2000 rp and I was wandering if spending another 600 would be worth it you say the vxf is more punchy does it hit harder and also punch better and sound better
I like loud but I like it low at the same time. Which sub will play into the high 20’s and sound the best . I’m learning towards the V because of its lower Fs. But the z has more Xmax. So that’s why I’m rewatching this video 😂
@@joeyanglada1275 that doesn't matter. Gap dimensions and motor depth are different, as well as baksket design and depth.. plus spider differences. They're are many differences and tolerances between them
@@joeyanglada1275 no problem the fs is focused on way to much when selecting a driver. The fs doesn't ultimately determine how low or high a subwoofer will play in the frequency bands. It's just the resonant frequency at which the cone and soft parts begin to resonate with minimal power, in a free air environment. It doesn't reflect to much on the actual frequency response of the subwoofer. Qts or the overall "Q" is way more important as it dictates motor force and what type of enclosure the subwoofer prefers. Frequency response will help show at what the subwoofer will respond down to and where it rolls off in the upper end as well.
I really appreciate your input. I was thinking of getting another battery because when I had XRs I was noticing a voltage drop from 14.3 down to 13.3 and dimming on the dash. If I was to get a second battery, would I need an higher capacity alternater with that battery to run the 3k or even a 5k?
Just got 2 vxf 12s have got to really try em on some power,but ive got 3evl12s,and for the money ,and the right box is hard to beat...just a smaller motor and spider,seems they aint scared of power either
As far as 12” go both are very good the vxf slap harder the xr is smoother less slappy or punchy. But both are very good. Both are similar as far as loudness.
@HiFiVector Unfortunately, my subs and amp were stolen. I had the XR 12s I'm going to go with the VXFs. Luckily, I still have a Skar box sitting around. One more question should I go with the 3k taramps or is it worth trying to run a smart 3k on the VXFs or should I run a 5k. Before my amp was stolen I had the Smart 3k on the AB XRs??
I would go with the smart 3 BASS. It would be perfect for the vxf 12’s. You can go smart 5 BASS if you have high output alternators and secondary batteries but honestly the smart 3 BASS would be good.
Hey so I've got the skar vxf d2 15 inch sub hitting it on the t1500 rockford power series amp but I've notice the dust cap getting abit warm speaker is about 3 weeks old is that normal or needs more breaking in time before I turn it up or do I have it turned up too much any advice would be great don't wanna burn this Sub thanks
I got 10 of the Vs and 5 of the Zs I don't know bout the Zs yet but I can agree with this guy if you wanna hear and feel rebassed music get them Vs and they sound good on all music I listen to
I run an sdr 15 on a jp23 1.5 and am pretty impressed by its output. Had been interested in getting a bigger sub tho and was interesred in the vxf for the reasons you mention. After long thought i think i will gobwith the fi audio x v4. Have you any experience with this sub?
fi builds some of the best subs out there , but the vxf is really hard to beat because of the price . whats really nice is there are tons of options out there to upgrade the subs with new parts . your best bet is to talk to patrick at robot underground to see what your best options really are before you buy
There's really no point in buying a zvx over the vxf. I've run a pair of both on 2 taramps smart 3 bass amps in same 35hz enclosure and hit 1.2 DB higher with the vxf's. The xvf is definitely one of my top 5 subwoofers of all time just for the wide spectrum of music it sounds good playing and the price. People bash skar all the time but if you want some cheap subs that will handle 2200 watts a piece all day that are cheap, the vxf is the way to go. *I forgot to mention the skar ddx subwoofers. They can handle well over 1500 watts a piece. I ran 2 on 1 taramps smart 3 bass amp for 3 years before the surrounds tore. I had 96ah of headway lithium pushing that smart 3 bass getting well over 3k watts out of it and the ddx's took it for years before the surrounds tore. The voice coils are still good on them. You can beat those subs and throw them away after a few years and get new ones if the vc go out 😂
I blew a zvx 12 on a rp1500 amp with gain at half idk what the hell is going on but this shit getting expensive. Blew 3 evl 12s before that on same amp over the last 6 months
Well first of all if your blowing your subs you arent giveing it clean power you probably clipped the shit out of it especially if you blew all them subs ive never blown a speaker in my life because i dont clip the shit out of them so thats not skars fault the rp series are not a very good amp the sk series is the one your gonna want to go with
I have 4 evl 15s and ive had 4500 watts of unclipped power going through them for 4 years and i have 2 of them on 4500 watts at the moment for the last 2 years ive never blown one and never had issues with all 4 of them
Clipping kills subs. Easy fix stop turning your head unit to its max. Turn it to about 75% and never a notch higher. Then while at that setting figure out what your output from your amp is. Do this with a multi-meter. What ever your max is on your speakers. Take that number and find its square route. We will say that number is v² then we will divided that number by the ohms so take your meter and hook it to both wires coming from the speaker set up. What ever your ohms is multiply by 2 now that's gonna be 2R take v² and divide it by 2R. That answer is your max power output in ac voltage. So now make sure your head unit is playing at 75% max play a 120hz tone from your phone. Download a app for it. put your meter back into the mono output from your amplifier and change it to measure ac voltage. Turn your bass boost all the way to zero. With your filters turn them all the way up. Now slowly turn the gain down until you reach your power output as calculated. Once you hit that point go to your high filter. Begin to turn it down until you start to see your output decrease from the amp. Turn it back until it goes back to the calculated output. Then stop. Now play a 26hz tone. Go to your sub-sonic adjustment and begin to turn it down until your output starts to drop. When it drops stop right there. Now hook up your system and never again touch your amp unless you replace something. Doing this you will never replace another set of speakers unless one of your idiot friends borrows your ride or tries turning the music to max. 75% is now your max. Anything above it and your doing it to yourself
For true bass and efficiency. Zvx wins and it’s because of the black coated aluminum voice coil look into real completion subs none of them are pure exposed copper( rust , oxidation) and they also move easier because it’s lighter. If you want to listen to rock and acoustic music then go with the Vxf but it won’t last as long with a spl setting . It will burn . I’ve went through 2 on rms power …
How would you rank the the following 15s for SQ; on 1000-1500W of power? VXF-15, American Bass XR-15, Brutus BRW-15, Audio Legion Maximus-15, Soundstream T5-15, NVX VCW-15.
I’d you like super crisp clean bass and we are talking about the 15” versions Hifonics brw 15 then 2nd maximus. Hifonics hits the lows better than maximus. Or if you like something that hits the low lows but is still clean Vxf hands down. Vxf hits lows better than the others while still being clean and accurate but just a tiny bit less than the other 2. So just depends on what you like.
The Skar ZVX is more durable but the VFL is better sounding because the frequency response is way better but the 18" ZVX is the best because it has the best frequency response plus is durable.

I have 2 on a 5k Taramp.. and the clip light always flashes.. how can I set it to the point that it won’t clip as much ?
Turn down the gain on the amp until it doesn’t clip at your max listening volume. Make sure you have enough electrical for that amp.

Gain is to makup for head unit/ signal output also make sure you dont have any eq booster turned on in the head unit
15" VXF on 1500watts RMS, highoutput alternator, secondary xs power batteries. Loud. Clean. Mean. Best sub ive ever heard myself.

Killer video brother I went the VXF 15 D2 and not disappointed at all love it I just wish I had a bigger amp. running a RP 1200 right and it’s not even close to what I need from the sound of it thinking of going with the Stimger MT 1500 . Hopefully one day soon I got it in skars 15 inch box tuned at 32hz I’m not sure it’s really 32 honestly.
Recoil RED2500.1 is same price but puts out 1000 more watts and thats what those subs need

I have a jp23 v1.5 on 1 vxf12 at 1 ohm and it handles all the power without any issues. The clip light is priceless to me

Well witch one hits harder man I already bought two zvxs and I have them on a 2000 rp and I was wandering if spending another 600 would be worth it you say the vxf is more punchy does it hit harder and also punch better and sound better

They sound totally different yes. Vxf are way more punchy and SQ is better.

I like loud but I like it low at the same time. Which sub will play into the high 20’s and sound the best .
I’m learning towards the V because of its lower Fs. But the z has more Xmax. So that’s why I’m rewatching this video 😂
VXF hit the lows a little better than ZVX and sound quality is better.
zvx is more of a spl sub and vxf is music . vxf in a folded or tapped horn is just incredible

@@joeyanglada1275 that doesn't matter. Gap dimensions and motor depth are different, as well as baksket design and depth.. plus spider differences. They're are many differences and tolerances between them

the fs is focused on way to much when selecting a driver. The fs doesn't ultimately determine how low or high a subwoofer will play in the frequency bands. It's just the resonant frequency at which the cone and soft parts begin to resonate with minimal power, in a free air environment. It doesn't reflect to much on the actual frequency response of the subwoofer. Qts or the overall "Q" is way more important as it dictates motor force and what type of enclosure the subwoofer prefers. Frequency response will help show at what the subwoofer will respond down to and where it rolls off in the upper end as well.
I really appreciate your input. I was thinking of getting another battery because when I had XRs I was noticing a voltage drop from 14.3 down to 13.3 and dimming on the dash. If I was to get a second battery, would I need an higher capacity alternater with that battery to run the 3k or even a 5k?

Just got 2 vxf 12s have got to really try em on some power,but ive got 3evl12s,and for the money ,and the right box is hard to beat...just a smaller motor and spider,seems they aint scared of power either

As far as 12” go both are very good the vxf slap harder the xr is smoother less slappy or punchy. But both are very good. Both are similar as far as loudness.
@HiFiVector Unfortunately, my subs and amp were stolen. I had the XR 12s I'm going to go with the VXFs. Luckily, I still have a Skar box sitting around. One more question should I go with the 3k taramps or is it worth trying to run a smart 3k on the VXFs or should I run a 5k. Before my amp was stolen I had the Smart 3k on the AB XRs??
I would go with the smart 3 BASS. It would be perfect for the vxf 12’s. You can go smart 5 BASS if you have high output alternators and secondary batteries but honestly the smart 3 BASS would be good.

Will the rockford t1500 power series be enough for one 15 skar vxf dual 2 ohm
It could handle more but the power T1500 will work for a 15.

Hey so I've got the skar vxf d2 15 inch sub hitting it on the t1500 rockford power series amp but I've notice the dust cap getting abit warm speaker is about 3 weeks old is that normal or needs more breaking in time before I turn it up or do I have it turned up too much any advice would be great don't wanna burn this Sub thanks
I got 10 of the Vs and 5 of the Zs I don't know bout the Zs yet but I can agree with this guy if you wanna hear and feel rebassed music get them Vs and they sound good on all music I listen to

I run an sdr 15 on a jp23 1.5 and am pretty impressed by its output. Had been interested in getting a bigger sub tho and was interesred in the vxf for the reasons you mention. After long thought i think i will gobwith the fi audio x v4. Have you any experience with this sub?
No I haven’t tried a FI sub yet.
fi builds some of the best subs out there , but the vxf is really hard to beat because of the price . whats really nice is there are tons of options out there to upgrade the subs with new parts . your best bet is to talk to patrick at robot underground to see what your best options really are before you buy

Does the zvx more low bass or hard bass?
Vxf has more hard punchy bass. Zvx has a more smooth , less hard punchy bass. Both are loud just depends on what you like.
VXF = Transient Bass
ZVX = Sustain Bass
So vxf has a copper coil and the zvx has aluminum I would guess with the windings count so yeah vxf for sure 👍
There's really no point in buying a zvx over the vxf. I've run a pair of both on 2 taramps smart 3 bass amps in same 35hz enclosure and hit 1.2 DB higher with the vxf's. The xvf is definitely one of my top 5 subwoofers of all time just for the wide spectrum of music it sounds good playing and the price. People bash skar all the time but if you want some cheap subs that will handle 2200 watts a piece all day that are cheap, the vxf is the way to go.
*I forgot to mention the skar ddx subwoofers. They can handle well over 1500 watts a piece. I ran 2 on 1 taramps smart 3 bass amp for 3 years before the surrounds tore. I had 96ah of headway lithium pushing that smart 3 bass getting well over 3k watts out of it and the ddx's took it for years before the surrounds tore. The voice coils are still good on them. You can beat those subs and throw them away after a few years and get new ones if the vc go out 😂
I blew a zvx 12 on a rp1500 amp with gain at half idk what the hell is going on but this shit getting expensive. Blew 3 evl 12s before that on same amp over the last 6 months
You gotta be clipping the fk out of those speakers because I’ve had evl 12 for 3 years giving it 2400rms from a kxa 2400.1 amp
Well first of all if your blowing your subs you arent giveing it clean power you probably clipped the shit out of it especially if you blew all them subs ive never blown a speaker in my life because i dont clip the shit out of them so thats not skars fault the rp series are not a very good amp the sk series is the one your gonna want to go with
I have 4 evl 15s and ive had 4500 watts of unclipped power going through them for 4 years and i have 2 of them on 4500 watts at the moment for the last 2 years ive never blown one and never had issues with all 4 of them
So the money your spending is on you you cant blame anyone but your own self for blowing subs
Clipping kills subs. Easy fix stop turning your head unit to its max. Turn it to about 75% and never a notch higher. Then while at that setting figure out what your output from your amp is. Do this with a multi-meter. What ever your max is on your speakers. Take that number and find its square route. We will say that number is v² then we will divided that number by the ohms so take your meter and hook it to both wires coming from the speaker set up. What ever your ohms is multiply by 2 now that's gonna be 2R take v² and divide it by 2R. That answer is your max power output in ac voltage. So now make sure your head unit is playing at 75% max play a 120hz tone from your phone. Download a app for it. put your meter back into the mono output from your amplifier and change it to measure ac voltage. Turn your bass boost all the way to zero. With your filters turn them all the way up. Now slowly turn the gain down until you reach your power output as calculated. Once you hit that point go to your high filter. Begin to turn it down until you start to see your output decrease from the amp. Turn it back until it goes back to the calculated output. Then stop. Now play a 26hz tone. Go to your sub-sonic adjustment and begin to turn it down until your output starts to drop. When it drops stop right there. Now hook up your system and never again touch your amp unless you replace something. Doing this you will never replace another set of speakers unless one of your idiot friends borrows your ride or tries turning the music to max. 75% is now your max. Anything above it and your doing it to yourself
For true bass and efficiency. Zvx wins and it’s because of the black coated aluminum voice coil look into real completion subs none of them are pure exposed copper( rust , oxidation) and they also move easier because it’s lighter. If you want to listen to rock and acoustic music then go with the
Vxf but it won’t last as long with a spl setting . It will burn . I’ve went through 2 on rms power …
How would you rank the the following 15s for SQ; on 1000-1500W of power? VXF-15, American Bass XR-15, Brutus BRW-15, Audio Legion Maximus-15, Soundstream T5-15, NVX VCW-15.
I’d you like super crisp clean bass and we are talking about the 15” versions Hifonics brw 15 then 2nd maximus. Hifonics hits the lows better than maximus. Or if you like something that hits the low lows but is still clean Vxf hands down. Vxf hits lows better than the others while still being clean and accurate but just a tiny bit less than the other 2. So just depends on what you like.

The Skar ZVX is more durable but the VFL is better sounding because the frequency response is way better but the 18" ZVX is the best because it has the best frequency response plus is durable.

Zvx gets louder at 36hz. I think at 22-30hz range the vxf has to be louder in these lows
