I work in the supply chain side of Stellantis, our facility handles material from most major suppliers and supplies to most of the major assembly plants, Toledo, Warren, Kokomo, Windsor, Saltillo, Toluca, etc We’re looking at like 10% of our day to day weight moved in material than what we previously had in 2020. Plants are up and down seemingly at random, some plants like DAC Mack are technically operational but aren’t actually producing anything right now, they’re sitting on weeks of backlogged material. The Kokomo engine plants have been down for a few weeks, Warren truck assembly has been down for weeks and still is down. From the mouths of the people I work with, this is as bad as it’s gotten in the last 25 years without outright shutting down. Like we were a skeleton crew in covid, it was supposedly just a few people running the show during the recession, but to be running so low capacity without a large scale shut down is really jarring. Chrysler is hemorrhaging money right now and I don’t know how long they’ll keep everything up.

Why sell a family of four a compact sedan if you can sell them a SUV or truck. The problem there is those customers arent going to buy another car ever again. They dont need to, they have a vehicle which will cover any possible needs they have. They banked on a short term strategy, they used up their customer base, and now sales are through the floor.

My mom and dad have 3 cars combined while I have a 90 Corvette, a German import 85 Nissan 300ZX, a 94 B4C Camaro cop car, and a disassembled Chevy 350 sitting in the back of the backup family 4x4. Somehow, I've never had neighbors complain and my parents still love me (for now).

Sure everyone loves the 2J, but it's just the non turbo GE model and the 1UZ v8 is like a japanese LS, and the auto box is said to be strong too. Also I am EXTREMELY salty that as a teenager I missed out on the cleanest fuckin red and tan '98 that was being sold in tenessee around the same time I was visiting relatives in tenessee, but was too far to make a detour to look at.

One of them has door hinges that are so rusted out you can see the rust flake off every time the owner shuts their door. I don't understand their appeal, over priced crap quality unreliable rust buckets.
