    Looks good, sounds good and goes fast. But is it reliable?

    • @ridexdrive
      @ridexdrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Reliability is always an interesting topic because everyone has a story about their cousin’s wife’s brother’s son who had his transmission blow up at 5,000 miles. Almost every manufacturer has had some sort of major recall that can be used as an example of unreliability and so on. I’ve even had someone tell me how unreliable their dad’s Toyota was. Go figure. So when it comes to reliability we look at generalIzed scoring, which in itself has issues but at least it creates an even playing field. In that respect, yes, almost any new Hyundai you buy should be very reliable. If not, Hyundai has the best warranty in the industry. 5yr/60,000 basic and 10yr/100,000 powertrain.

    • @stevenr6279
      @stevenr6279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      On a car like this, the owner is the main tool of reliability. These performance based cars need owners that do preventive maintenance on schedule. If the owners falls behind on maintenance or wait for a part to wear out the cars can quickly empty your bank account. On the good side, this excellent hatch will need maintenance once a year if driven with spirit and fun.

  • @frankvee

    How does the transmission on the DCT model work when in SPORT or N Mode, as far as shifting throughout the rev range? Is it left entirely to the driver to shift at any desired point throughout the range (as if driving a true manual transmission), or does the onboard computer interfere with driver input at certain revs if no input is detected from the driver?

    • @ridexdrive
      @ridexdrive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's been a while since I drove the Veloster N but I believe when the transmission is in its most aggressive mode, it will hold the gear up to redline but not sure if it will allow you to keep hitting the limiter and not shift. Perhaps someone else knows better.

    • @IndyAvocadoKid
      @IndyAvocadoKid ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It starts up in normal mode, then you use the left blue button to get sport and economy mode, and the right blue button to get to N regular and N Custom. The reason it starts up in normal is US noise testing only needs to be done in startup mode, that’s why the firecracker exhaust is legal in the US.
      As far as shifting it can be shifted manually and for first to second it auto up shifts at redline, but 2-8 is manual and can hold redline without auto shifting. Downshifts are automatic if revs drop too low to prevent lugging the engine, but otherwise it’s just like a manual 👍🙂

    If this is the automatic version, is it smooth? I plan on buying this model when I have enough saved.

    • @ridexdrive
      @ridexdrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a performance focused vehicle so smooth isn’t exactly the goal. But for what it is, we found it shifted well when driving it more relaxed. Thanks for the question!

    • @IndyAvocadoKid
      @IndyAvocadoKid ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal and economy mode is pretty normal like a regular car but N can be kinda brutal sometimes, in N it feels like it’s meant for the track 😂 the reason it can sometimes be called angry is because the engine power can break the tires loose causing a brief tire chunking sound, doesn’t always happen but if the road isn’t too good your passenger might ask if your car is ok 😂

    Sold my 6 week old 2021 Veloster N DCT because it's a lousy daily driver. The suspension is WAY too stiff, even on the softest setting. If you buy one, be prepared to feel all road imperfections and get airborne on every freeway rut.

We have terrible roads here in Texas where i live and normal mode is decent but def not great. However - the damping on this car is wonderful over 40mph and the car smooths out a lot.
