- Today I am Etching Tile with Color using my CO2 Laser Engraver!
Hi, I'm Matt. Along with my wife Sara and our 4 kids we are fulfilling our dreams of becoming homesteaders. We support this dream with our laser engraving company and today I am sharing a fun project, etching in color 😉 on tiles! This project is a fun one and something fun to do for family! It may not be the biggest money maker and I DO NOT RECOMMEND EVER USING AND SELLING TRADEMARKED LOGOS/DESIGNS!

Been using lasers for 20 yrs , love to see tips from others and am still learning new techniques.
Well, I learned you can print to the laser from Corel Draw. Going to try that tomorrow.
Matt you're quite a character. Wish you were my next door neighbor!!
😃 thanks
Thank you for all the great videos!
Thanks for watching. 😃
Thanks! And thanks for your friendly personality! 😄😄😄
Thanks for watching 😃
I use latex sample and brush it on works great. Wash off with water
Nice
You're running your tube at 100% at slow speed, for extended time? Whoa!
Yup
Love the outtakes. Thanks for the vids.
Thanks
great lesson and info thankyou
You can probably do the same thing with a vinal cuter.
I think you explained it well and I loved your results. Super clean and vibrant! The paint shaking clips crack me up!! 😂 I've thought about applying Modge Podge (outdoor variety?) before applying the next color. It should seal the masking tape edges preventing color bleed. I'm unsure how much of the engraving depth would be filled in with both Modge Podge and paint. 🤔
🧐 I was wondering if I used the frog painter tape if that would help with the bleeding paints. Now you have me thinking about modge podge.
Hi Matt...please make a more indepth video...especially explaining how the tape works to get the color from top of tape to stick to etching in the tile
Alright I can do that.
That was very entertaining..
Thanks
Looks great !!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Thank you for the videos Matt!! I am looking to purchase my first laser engraver soon. BOSS laser. Epilog is to fancy for now lol
Boss is a good one too. Thanks
Thanks for the info Matt. I just bought a xTool 20watt laser. Will this have the power to do these tiles? Cheers!
Yes but it’s different compared to co2 laser
Is the tile glazed? There's nothing in the description about it. Thx 4 the video.
It has a clear coat. I put the link of the tile I used in the description.
Thanks!
👍
When you laser your tiles, are you actually breaking through the ceramic surface or just cutting the masking that you put on the tiles?
Breaking through
Fantastico, ma che vernice hai usato?
I don’t know you said
I think you’re saying what paint to use I use rust oleum spray paint
@@laserengravingwithmatt tnks
Are u able to do the layering process in lightburn?
You should be able too.
Was is that tape/paper that you put on top of the tile?
The link is in the description
I don't know how just paint won't scratch off. Every time I've sprayed tile and used it as a coaster much of the paint rubbed off just from placing glasses and mugs on it.
Something isn’t right because my kids even play with mine and it still looks good. Did you engrave it first so the paint can stick to something.
@@laserengravingwithmatt I think I understand now, you're engraving deep enough that it penetrates the glaze. I painted, then just lasered off the paint where I don't want it. I'll have to test if my lasers can do that. I have the Ortur Laser Master 2, regular and pro models.
It should do it.
Great stuff Matt, did you leave all of your settings the same each time?
Thanks and yes
Does this work with diodes? I have an Atezr 35w.
I think it’s the opposite. You do layers of paint and edge off the different layers of paint because I don’t think the diode can go as deep is the CO2.
Will the masking work on an xtool D1? I’ve tried plain masking tape and it either melted or the paint seeped through it
It should. If the paint seeping through I would go lighter on the paint.
Hi Matt, is ther any possibility using the diod laser of 5.5?1
I would think that would work.
I tried with diode laser and masking paper burns at that speed
@@fernandoyebra7071 You have to find your own settings that work with your machine.
wow
What kind of tile did you use? I’ve found that glazed tile needs very slow speeds, 10mm/sec or less to actually cut through the glazed top. You’re using an unglazed tile, correct?
It is in the description
@@laserengravingwithmatt Don’t see it in your description, Matt. Are these just glazed tiles from a big box store?
As I understood, it's just cutting through the masking tape.
Hey matt and sara have you thought of doing tik tok videos ect.
No but I thought about doing shorts just don’t have enough time
@@laserengravingwithmatt yeah looking forward to doing the one on one meetings with you I lost my job day before Valentines day and I said time to get going on laser engraving
Heck yeah. You should have gotten the email for the times.
How much burn time for the entire project?
I don’t know. About 5 minutes total.
Hi...I have tried it n few times with no luck...dont know what Im doing wrong
What does it look like
It does not come out with any color..I have sent you an email
K I will take a look when I have a minute
Thanks for the not selling part. I habe the 4th copyright fraud at my lawyer within less than 4 weeks. Not only Disney etc is copyrighted! And I'm tired of it.
If its just paint itll come off?
No, it won’t because it grabs the pores once you engrave the top layer off
@@laserengravingwithmatt so you just use any paint? And laser over it and itll stay on? Thinking im missing slot here! Thanks for your patience mate i have a 100 watt thunder
Pat
@patdennis4576 spray paint yep laser first to take the top layer off the tile, then spray paint
Why does it not scratch off if it's just spray paint
Because the paint is in the ceramic and it cannot come off
So it's just regular paint and it bonds to the porous ceramic after you cut it?
@@laserengravingwithmatt Do you mean the laser embeds it or the laser clears off the glaze and the paint seeps in to the ceramic?
Do you have CO2 or diodes?
I only had co2 when I made this video.
What kind of paper/tape are you using to cover the tile?
I have the link in the description
@@laserengravingwithmatt Thank you!
What link below????
It says tape next to it.
But you can give them away
While I appreciate your technique, the video doesn't explain enough to follow the process. It's like you were ADHDing on caffeine when you made the video. You know what you meant, but it doesn't translate. I will definitely be experimenting with your process to iron out the details. Thanks!
😂 way to much caffeine that day and not enough time was in that day.
just add different colors or designs onto the logos and it wont be copy right anymore
