I have both. Yes the Sony's have better ANC but you cannot connect to multiple devices, switching is a major pain! Sonys also make your ears hot, cannot wear them for hours. The Bose are a better all-round, wear for hours, connect to multiple devices headset. And you can easily replace the ear pads. You say look at the data, but you didn't capture data which is crucial like: connectivity and comfort!

aakash teotia I’ve listened to songs for comparing clarity. Sony was inferior to Bose. Of course Sony has a ton more to offer, including better beat response, but you don’t get that feel and the effect in mid frequency songs that you would get with Bose.

You are right but XM3 is also a very comfortable headphone. Just not as comfortable as QC35II. I am very much ok with the level of comfort offered by XM3. Secondly, I only connect a headphone to one device at a time. Lastly and most importantly, I prefer the sound signature of WH1000XM3, it's support for better Bluetooth codecs and I also vastly prefer touch control system in XM3.

There are quite a few reasons why I still went with the Bose QC 35 II. They do a better job in situations where you would actually want to use a noise cancelling headphone. If you're traveling then you want to cancel out the low, rumbling frequencies of trains and airplanes. I found that the noise cancelling on the Sony also produced a really consistent ambient background noise, that, while barely audible, was enough to create a feeling of pressure on me ears. If you're sensitive at all to the feeling of pressure that noise cancelling headphones can sometimes create, go with the Bose.
Yes, the Sony headphones offer more options for customizing sound quality, but there are some glaring issues with the frequency response of the headphones, and it's not really possible to fix them with EQ settings. The Sonys really only sound great on Pop genres because of their overly aggressive bass and frequency response, and if that's not what you're looking for then it's really difficult to EQ out the excessive bass in the Sonys. If you're listening to jazz, classical, R&B, or any kind of live recording where you care about a decent sound stage and instrument separation, then the QC 35 II is definitely for you. They sound more neutral and much more open.
I have to say that I pretty heavily agree with this review on the microphone and call quality. Say what you want about the frequency response of the microphones on these two headphones, but the fidelity of the sound being transmitted through the Sonys just sounds grainier, more distorted, and really far away. When I would make calls to people while using the Sonys they said that it sounded like I was muffled, really far away, or like I was talking through a speakerphone from 15 years ago. Everyone who I spoke to through the QC 35 II said that the call sounded clear, precise and easy to hear. The fidelity that is being transmitted through the Sonys is just lower, and unfortunately that makes their better frequency response kind of meaningless.
Anyway, just my personal opinions after trying out both of these. They're both really great headphones and I think that both have a specific kind of buyer that they're geared towards. Can't really go wrong either way.

The one gripe I have with the XM3 is when you go to grab the headphones off, you may sometimes skip a track or stop the music. Also I feel like I have to baby the XM3 because of the matte coating and I fear it will scuff and show way more than the Bose. The Bose I’ve had for almost 2 years and I rarely baby it and it still looks new. I don’t know if that will be the case for the XM3s.

I bought the Bose and regret nothing. First of all, I didn´t pay the 350$ price tag, got them on Amazon for 240$. The drawbacks I can think of are:
    - The micro USB charging port - demanding a specific cable, I preventing me from using the USB C cables I already use for the rest of the stuff (however the battery is very solid so charging these only once a week makes it less painful to have to use a different cable).
    - The top headband - For one it could have more padding, since after a long period of time it start to state its presence. And also... The headband is made of 2 different hardware pieces and they are separate of one another so when I feel it in my hands it sometimes feel cheap and unfinished, but nothing to be worried about, since when they go on the head they are just fine.
    - The earcups are quite confortable but after I would say 1 hour you would want to take them off to give your ears some room to breathe and also rest the area around the ear where the earcups rest.
The rest is fantastic - I quite enjoy the sound (note however that these headphones are not bass oriented, so consider which music you listened to, because I can safely say that hearing EDM on my old sony's was more fun), the noise cancelling for me is on the border line of exceptional, the build is very flexible and solid, the dials and interface the best placed in any headphone I've had and are very easy to use when on the head and finally the carrying case is the final touch of quality on the total package.
Why I picked these over the sony's:
    - The Sony's can't pair with more than 1 device at a time and 95% of the time I use my headphones with my phone and mac and the same time and the transition from from one to the other is fantastic on the Bose.
    - When I bought the Bose, the Sony's were still 350$ so that 110$ difference just didn't cut for me.
    - Most of people I've listened to said that they prefered the Bose in terms of confort and since I've had numerous bad experiences with unconfortable headphones in the past I always leaned more towards the Bose side (however I never I the chance I experience the Sony's in person, so it actually might just be a matter of opinion).
If they are at the same price, I would probably go Sony for better future proofing but if the situation is something like mine was (100$ + difference) then the benefits and advantages of the Sony aren't enough to win them over the Bose.

The bose is more comfy by far.
But, but have their flaws. All ANC headphones sounds like it's raining if you are in a really quiet environment.

I use my headphones at work connected to my laptop and phone at the same time - having the Bose really works for this. I had an older pair of PLT headphones that didnt support multi device, and it was super frustrating for dealing with disconnecting and reconnecting bluetooth between the phone/computer as I got to and left work.
The Bose may not have the App or Bass that the XM3's have, but I much prefer having the multi device functionality, call quality and physical buttons over Sony's app or noise cancelling. It's all about what you value in a headset overall.

  • @longphan9532
    @longphan9532 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Bose wins in comfort hands down because of its ability to seamlessly switch between paired devices. This is a comfort feature that is often missed in reviews. I had the Bose QC35II and replaced them with the Sony WH-1000XM3. While the XM3 sounds better and is comfortable to wear, it was useless for most people's everyday needs. My need for being able to seamlessly switch from my home laptop, to my phone, to my work laptop, and back and forth is what led me to sell the XM3 and buy the QC35II again. There is a huge thread on the Sony forum and Sony still has not addressed this. It is sad that Sony did not include this. It is sadder that Sony will not admit that.

Also, you forgot to mention that if you want to use LDAC, you are bound to the stock sound signature of the Sony's. Whenever you touch the EQ setting on them, they revert to SBC, which means that the supported audio codecs become moot. Just a thing to consider, you are essentially giving up the codecs if you don't like Sony's stock sound signature.

I have the XM3 and they really are top notch however there is one problem with them that I am absolutely shocked that Sony did not catch during Quality Control. Basically in cold weather the touch controls can be activated at random without any input from the user. I'm walking down the sidewalk and suddenly my music pauses or jumps to the next track; and the only way to fix it is to turn off the headset and turn it back on. This according to Sony resets the headphone somehow so it can work properly in the cold. As you can imagine when you live in a country like Canada this can become really frustrating.

I replaced my original QC 35s with the Sony XM3 for 2 days before returning them XM3. Three reasons why:
    1. Comfort. I can wear the Bose for hours without even noticing them. With the Sony, 30 minutes and my ears were hot and had to take breaks.
    2. I didn’t think the difference between pairing multiple devices (Bose) vs just one (Sony) would be a big deal, but it was. Huge, in fact.
    3. The dealbreaker on the XM3 for me was phone call quality - it wasn’t good. I make a lot of business calls in loud environments and with the XM3, not only did the noise cancelling not help, but the ambient sounds were amplified in my headphones. Never had a problem with the Bose.

Hello these headphone's are really really good in a lot of ways. I've had these for sometime now and I can now give a honest review on them. I also have the Bowers and Wilken's Px's,Sennheiser px 550's and the parrot zik's and now these here. The build quality of them has gotten better from the last model mainly the fit. The noise cancelling is simply outstanding. The call quality isn't the best but somewhat decent. The battery life on these are also really good! The sound signature on them is really good! My ear's did slightly sweat after a few hour's of wearing them though. These are the only headphone's I've ever owned that didn't cut out when I stepped into best buy bravo Sony! The touchpad you have to be precise with the gestures on it or you'll skip a song quite frequently. I also don't like the double tap to answer or pause you have to get that right to do either one of those. And other gripes are the long press of the power button on or off and that dang short ass charging cable they come with. It's like 2 or 3inches.... the next version to these should be magnificent if sony listens to us consumer's which i think they do👌🏾✊🏽

I really wanted to like the Sony's but had to go with Bose.
Comfort for me, on the Sony's my ears touched the drivers and after only 30 minutes I had to take them off because the headband hurt. Bose are no issues at all.
Sound. You can tweak both to sound great. But out of the box the Bose murders the Sony's. Sony bass bleeds far too much in the midrange it sounds muddy and overemphasized. Again, you can tweak both to your liking.
Oh and the streaming quality? On paper Sony wins in features, but not in practice. If you want LDAC, you cant adjust eq settings. Of course music you can use the music app's eq and you're fine. But TH-cam and any other sound where you cant adjust eq will sound like a muddy mess.
Also the Sony touch controls go haywire in the cold. I ride the bus every day to work and walk a few blocks in MN winters. No joke, I'd stop off the bus and about 20 seconds later (below zero temp) the sound stops and you have to let the headphones warm up before you can use them again. If the temp is 40 or below the sound stops after a few minutes.
All those reasons I decided the Bose were best FOR ME. I stress that because were all different and I'm sure most of you are in a warmer climate than I am....and I'm jealous!

I bought these recently and then tried to make a phone call in a fairly noisy coffee house. If I'm talking just into my cell phone, the people on the other end of the line did not complain about the background noise. The headset, however, seems to pick up noise from too far away. To add insult to injury, it also played all that noise back through my headphones. Is it possible that a future firmware update limits the microphone to sounds originating no further than 10 cm from the microphone? I.e. my voice? Isn't that possible with near-field microphones and if so, why wouldn't Sony opt for these?

Just a heads up from someone who owns the quiet comfort. They aren’t worth it audio wise. Everything always sounds buried and muffled. The only way to begin to hear things is cranking them which defeats the purpose for my uses. V moda crossfade ii’s are way more worth it. With their price tag you get actual quality. Bose just tries to impress with a nice box, package products, features that don’t even work, and that’s where it ends. It also seems the headphones go from too quiet to over the top loud. I don’t want to rant but I want to spare someone buying these for the wrong reason. The only thing that is ok (it could be better) is the noise cancelling which in reality is only effecting at wiping out LOW environment background noise. I will stress the quality of the sound is not worth it. Even Akg headphones destroy these. On most of my favorite artists songs it all sounds clutter, the guitars are way too low, the bass has a thud but it’s not clear, and they feel like they could break at slightest whim. My V moda crossfade ii’s had superior sound quality where the sound was WIDE, so loud they could deafen you, extremely comfortable, built like German tanks, and everything was crystal clear for ALL genres. To me they are general consumer headphones marketed like the beats.

    2) Sony has a tad better ANC. But Bose is not bad either.
    3) The most important thing for me was this, Sony is is more comfortable for my ears and Bose started irritating my ears just after 30 to 40 minutes. But Sony can hold up to an hour or a little more.
    4) I definitely like the touch gestures much more than Bose's buttons.
    6) Yet to check the fast charging and battery life on the Sony. With Bose I was using it for 4 to 4 days and a couple of hours a day.

@maitrehg high end audiophile headphones come in many forms some may be flat and neutral sounding like the hd800 while some may be bassy or warm or may have a rich sound signatures like lcd2 ,Fostex th900s, or the final d8000 so high end headphones have different sound signatures and not are always hd800s that is soundstage cans
And yeah Jude from headfi has a lot more experience than I do with high end headphones and he does are with Sony being the better sounding one
well then again everyone has different hearing

I came to this video trying to decide between these two pairs of headphones expecting to find another video that just presents the same ideas/data as others but was very impressed to see actual data organized from structured tests. This video took all of the ideas that other people have briefly touched on and takes it to the next level with real numbers and visuals. Keep up the good work boys

Ok, so for a channel that is called 'The Sound Guys', why is the audio in this video so bad. The voice is REALLY scratchy and hard to listen to.
Otherwise though, content of the video is nice as I am trying to decide on one of these headphones, but still seems kind of wierd.

Brand Yu I’m tryna figure this out myself.. I kind of really want to get the QC35 but if they’re releasing a new model soon I don’t want to buy mark 2 when I could have gotten the next gen. :(

Not forget to mention the Sony's suport hi-res audio. How do you compare the sound quality to the B&O h9i to these headphones🤔?

@@SpringloftStudio i've come to the same conclusion. The overall sound of the XM3's is mudded and sounds artificial to me.

Have you ever used poweramp app? I would love you to do a guide to all the settings like the stuff you mention here... the stuff I've no idea about like Ldac and other words you mentioned (which I've noticed in poweramp settings) 😂

Going to wait on Sony's next headphones to see if they build with better material. Reading too many complaints about Sony's headbands breaking and Sony warranty wont cover a fix or replacement, rendering a $350 pair of headphones useless.
