It really depends on the genre of music you listen to. The Bose you can definitely separate each musical instrument when listening to rock, classical, jazz and has a wider sound stage. The Sony is more boomy and has a much deeper, yet artificial bass for hip hop, edm. If you're a bass head, Sony. If you're more of a musical enthusiast that appreciates a more purer cleaner sound, the Bose.

I bought the Sony expecting to be blown away due to all of the hype behind it but tbh i wasn't a fan because it sounds muddy from the bass imo. They are both good headphones but i would highly recommend whoever is considering buying them to try them both at a local best buy or other tech spot.

Perfect well explained video, had a nice pace, and also matched the researching I did on these 2 headphones. Going for the sony's and I hope it's worth it. I've worn my friend's qc35s for literally 2 minutes and ever since then I've fell in love with it and anc headphones. The bose's comfort is king, it is like your ears are floating in space when you wear them, but I can get the sony's for free using a points program from my credit card (and the bose's aren't available in my cc points program). Well deserved sub!
Edit: *disclaimer that this is from my experience so everything here will not be the same as your experience*
The sony's are pretty nice, not as comfy as the bose (at least from my 2 minute experience from the bose). The most annoying part of the sony's are that they can only connect to one device at a time. If these would connect to two devices at a time, then switching between devices would be so easy. The app is also very easy to use and the cool part is the adaptive sound control. It senses when you are sitting down vs moving around so it will adjust the noise cancellation (not that I would use this since I wouldn't use this outside, but I was just really surprised by it when I walked around the house). The sound on these things are also superb, I was using a plantronics backbeat pro 2 before this and the plantronics definitely aren't as comfy or even close to sounding as good as the sony's audio quality (almost like I'm listening using a plugged in headset). You can also change the button for ambient control/noise cancellation to google assistant in the app, and the touch controls are a little finicky. I would have preferred physical buttons, but I guess these work pretty well for what they are (98% accurate touches every single time). The second con of this headset is that they don't pause music if you take them off, the plantronics did, and it is just such a convenient feature. You also look like an idiot when you try to palm the right can on the headset to activate the ambient control, but it's pretty damn cool. The mic also sucks on the sony headset, people will be able to hear you, but obviously, it ain't going to be very good.

Listening to this video on my Sony WH-1000Xm3 headphones bluetoothed to my Sony XBR65X900E TV. Having both of these headphones at my place of work made it easy to compare.
Having owned many headphones and not really using any of them consistently after a couple weeks, despite enjoying them for the most part, I was surprised by how frequently I WANT to just pop the sony's on my head even for short periods.
They just sound awesome, clean and rich and clear and full. Like you said, much better mids. Clean, punchy bass, not overwhelming bass, just rich bass that compliments the rest of the music, that allows you to hear other details.
And I LOVE the ambient sound mode. As a parent needing to keep my ears open for my toddlers and the inevitable destruction they are wreaking, ambient sound is fantastic and allows me to hear my music, and my kids.

Using the Sony's for a year now, superb flight silencing which was a key selling point for me, great battery power, USB C is a huge plus as my phone uses the same and only one charger is needed, the speed chargin is amazing too, not mentioned here is the sony NFC functionality which I use extensivly to switch between my PC/Laptop and my phone. They are really airtight, even when listening to music really loud my wife sitting next to me cant hear much which just adds to the overall listening experience.

I definitely became more uncomfortable with the Sony’s after 1.5 - 2 hrs and needed to take them off. This is an excellent review, great content and presentation. One thing I will mention is that a lot of people tend to say that the Sony's have better sound quality because of the punch of the bass. I don't understand why people focus on bass so much when there's such a wide variety of music where bass is not always desired at the level that the Sony's offer. I do appreciate the equalizer in the Sony app though, but it is frustrating that people just seem to think that more bass means better sound quality.

    • @marcoprins4880

Do you know whats even more annoying? The Sony's sound way too bassy if you don't apply EQ. They actually sound like shit - And you can't apply any EQ when using it wired. So you can kiss in-flight entertainment goodbye!

Just bought the QC35 II today and had a really hard time deciding between the two. To me it came down to the comfortability. And that is where Bose outshines Sony. At least to me. Yeah, the sound on the XM3 is a bit better (but not much). Also the overall tech is a bit more fancy. But these factors are not that much of a benefit and I can easily do without them. Either way both headphones are amazing and will make their owner quite happy.

I have both only because the Sony was on sale and had such good review. I do agree that the Sony does have better sounds, ANC, and app. For my head, the Bose is more comfortable. I also prefer the physical buttons on the Bose. One thing the reviewer didn't mention, but I realized very useful after many months of uses; the Bose can connect to 2 devices at a time and very easy to change to different saved devices in its memory without going to the settings of any devices. Sony can only connect to one at a time and to switch to another saved device requires you go to BT setting of current device to disconnect it and BT setting of 2nd device to connect it. I know it's a first world problem!!!
My recommendation after many months of use is if you mostly rely on one device for your headphones, then I'd go with the Sony. If you constantly switch between devices (in my case - phone, ipad, chromebook, PC, and android tablet) and need 2 connections at a time, then I'd seriously look at the Bose. Ease of use and convenient do matter over times. I like the sound of Sony, but I kept gravitate to the Bose for daily use because how easy it is the change between devices.

You can use the Sony with two devices (limited). They have one bluetooth connection for HQ music playback (aptX, LDAC etc.) and one for HSP/HFP. For instance I can connect my voip phone (desk) with the Sony and playing music from my mobile. If a call goes in, I click on headset and can talk over the headphone. A colleague showed me that (he owns the Bose). The music on the smartphone won't stop, but its muted until you finished calling, then you hear music again ;)
On my android system there is also written in the bluetooth connection that it can only play music and not used as a headset when I connect it with the voip phone. Maybe this works also with the computer.
One downside, if you use it on the PC with the passive mode (with cable) it sounds like garbage, you have to activate them to sound like always (there is also an impendance change). Second if you try to use the microphone on Windows 10 then the output switches to the bad HFP mode instead using the HQ codec. But its not a gaming headset, otherwise it would be the best overall headset ever.

For some odd reason, down to the BT standards, about half the devices you connect it to (esp android) produce low level sound. It may be a BT problem, but ffs, a $300+ headphone should be able to compensate!! If still in warranty, they will give you a replacement. SO WHAT? So buy Bose and be ignored when it has a design issues. The ignorance Bose has displayed in this regard deserves boycott and brand fold.

Igor Perin I’ve always really enjoyed their balanced sound, and with the app, they are extensively configurable for EQ. The ANC is “good”, but not as good as the PXC-550 (which I’m also trying now), and certainly not as good as the Sony’s being reviewed here.
I really like the Sennheiser sound profile, they start out very balanced, somewhat more bass than the normal profile, it very clear miss and highs as well.
And they are VERY durable. Most times 8 simply put them in their microfiber pouch, put them in my bag and go. I’ve never had any issues with multi-device switching, nor any issues with comfort. Again though, after a week with the Sony’s, they seem like five-year old tech (which they are).
I keep them for around the house listening and still use them as a Plan “B”.

I 100% disagree with the sound quality argument. Sony bass is dull hitting (like a dull knife). It doesn't have enough sub bass impact (rumble). There is a little too much mid bass hump. The bass isn't very punchy at all. Increasing the bass (via clear bass) does not fix the dull hitting bass. Also, the Sony is veiled in the midrange and lower treble (they sound incredibly dark). One must EQ these regions up a few dB to bring them to neutral.
The although the Bose doesn't have the quantity of Bass as the Sony, the Bose has a better sub bass impact and is more clear and detailed in the midrange. The soundstage is a bit larger too. The only problem with the Bose is that the lower treble can be a little harsh on some tracks.
The Bose sounds significantly better than the Sony. After many weeks of messing with the EQ, I got the Sony to sound almost as good.
Since the Bose sounded better, was more comfortable, could pair to two devices simultaneously (very important to me as I have 2 cell phones at all times), I sold the Sony after a month of use.
I would give the Bose a 7.5 in SQ and the Sony a 6.5.

The touch controls are meh.. There are phantom touches outdoors when raining/dew/precipitation.. The comfort isn't as good (shallower ear cups) .. The mic and sound cancelation isn't as good (as per your review) .. The only thing the Sony has going is the battery life and a little more oomph with the bass (also louder) .. The Bose has a respectable 22 hrs battery life (longest flight I have taken is 16hrs) and has the bigger sound stage + more balanced crisper sound (less distortion) ..
How does Bose NOT win? ..
In my opinion it's because people finally have an alternative to the original? .. I owned the QC15, QC25 and now the QC35 .. IMO Bose is tried and tested, reliable, its the original (the classic) and is the typeform in this category ..
    BOSE wins.. Just my opinion..
PS: My opinion is from owning both headphones and also from having brand loyalty to both Sony and Bose.

The sony are probably the best headphones I have ever used. But both are great

Great review. This is the first review that mentions Bose still used a 2.5 mm jack. Everyone else, and Bose website, says it's 3 mm...which is true for one end of the cable but not the other end. Thanks! The proprietary cable is a deal breaker for me.
It was difficult to see what was on your phone's screen.
I noticed you stretched out the Bose headphones to demonstrate their flexibility. You didn't do that for the Sony's. Why not?
And...I'd like to know if you can turn on ANC without connecting to a device? I read somewhere that the Bose will automatically turn off if not being used.
And, when switching between ANC modes, does the music dim, or is there an announcement, or do you just have to listen for the changes?

3.5mm to 2.5mm cables are very common. There are tons of them on eBay.

    • @justG01to05
      @justG01to05 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ExSkyCyclePilot True but Bose uses a proprietary cable. There's a notch in the headphones where the cable plugs in. Bose's cable fills in the notch. Regular 2.5/3.5 mm don't fill the notch (unless you purchase a replica cable). That might be a turn off for some. It makes no difference to me but my preference is 3.5/3.5 regardless.

@@justG01to05 Strange... My QC35s, manufactured in March, have no such notch, and the supplied cable is a standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable. In fact, I just happened to have another 2.5mm to 3.5mm standard cable, and I use it with my QC35s every day. I wonder when Bose made this change to a non-proprietary cable. I would also prefer a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, and USB-C for that matter, but accurate, neutral sound reproduction is more important to me, as are regular buttons, instead of that fiddly, annoying touchpad used by Sony.

@@ExSkyCyclePilot Thanks for that info re notch. The ones I tried on had one so I passed on buying them at that time. Maybe it was a store model and not the consumer version?
I agree in that I'd rather have buttons versus a touchpad for play control but technology is pushing buttons out and the touchpad in.

I looked at a lot of these reviews just before I bought my Bose I was actually going to buy the Sony's. Then I tried a Sony's on to compare to the Bose. My preference Bose are just so much more comfortable. And they don't scratch your ear like Sony's

I live in hot climate. Which one do you think will make my ears less hot and sweaty for longer-period use? Debating buying one cause I can't get a proper answer to this.

@@meeravinod7165 Best way is to go to Best buy and try them on if you have the option. I found the Bose I can wear for long periods of time pretty easily but I haven't tried in hot climates so I don't know.

For God's sake focus the camera on the phone so we would actually see and know what is showing on the phone.
