I used both, from my experience, Sony has better sound quality, but Bose is comfier from longer hours usage, no stress on ears, whereas Sony made my ears hurt after a few hours of use.

It really depends on the genre of music you listen to. The Bose you can definitely separate each musical instrument when listening to rock, classical, jazz and has a wider sound stage. The Sony is more boomy and has a much deeper, yet artificial bass for hip hop, edm. If you're a bass head, Sony. If you're more of a musical enthusiast that appreciates a more purer cleaner sound, the Bose.

Love the sound signature of Sony M3's but the most amazing feature for me is the ability to release cabin pressure during flights when reaching high altitudes and when landing, by activating the atmospheric optimizer of the headphone. Listening to this video on my Sony WH-1000Xm3 headphones bluetoothed to my Sony XBR65X900E TV. Having both of these headphones at my place of work made it easy to compare.
Having owned many headphones and not really using any of them consistently after a couple weeks, despite enjoying them for the most part, I was surprised by how frequently I WANT to just pop the sony's on my head even for short periods.
They just sound awesome, clean and rich and clear and full. Like you said, much better mids. Clean, punchy bass, not overwhelming bass, just rich bass that compliments the rest of the music, that allows you to hear other details.
And I LOVE the ambient sound mode. As a parent needing to keep my ears open for my toddlers and the inevitable destruction they are wreaking, ambient sound is fantastic and allows me to hear my music, and my kids.

  • @JohnDoe-uk7jy
    @JohnDoe-uk7jy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Perfect well explained video, had a nice pace, and also matched the researching I did on these 2 headphones. Going for the sony's and I hope it's worth it. I've worn my friend's qc35s for literally 2 minutes and ever since then I've fell in love with it and anc headphones. The bose's comfort is king, it is like your ears are floating in space when you wear them, but I can get the sony's for free using a points program from my credit card (and the bose's aren't available in my cc points program). Well deserved sub!
Edit: *disclaimer that this is from my experience so everything here will not be the same as your experience*
The sony's are pretty nice, not as comfy as the bose (at least from my 2 minute experience from the bose). The most annoying part of the sony's are that they can only connect to one device at a time. If these would connect to two devices at a time, then switching between devices would be so easy. The app is also very easy to use and the cool part is the adaptive sound control. It senses when you are sitting down vs moving around so it will adjust the noise cancellation (not that I would use this since I wouldn't use this outside, but I was just really surprised by it when I walked around the house). The sound on these things are also superb, I was using a plantronics backbeat pro 2 before this and the plantronics definitely aren't as comfy or even close to sounding as good as the sony's audio quality (almost like I'm listening using a plugged in headset). You can also change the button for ambient control/noise cancellation to google assistant in the app, and the touch controls are a little finicky. I would have preferred physical buttons, but I guess these work pretty well for what they are (98% accurate touches every single time). The second con of this headset is that they don't pause music if you take them off, the plantronics did, and it is just such a convenient feature. You also look like an idiot when you try to palm the right can on the headset to activate the ambient control, but it's pretty damn cool. The mic also sucks on the sony headset, people will be able to hear you, but obviously, it ain't going to be very good.

I have both only because the Sony was on sale and had such good review. I do agree that the Sony does have better sounds, ANC, and app. For my head, the Bose is more comfortable. I also prefer the physical buttons on the Bose. One thing the reviewer didn't mention, but I realized very useful after many months of uses; the Bose can connect to 2 devices at a time and very easy to change to different saved devices in its memory without going to the settings of any devices. Sony can only connect to one at a time and to switch to another saved device requires you go to BT setting of current device to disconnect it and BT setting of 2nd device to connect it. I know it's a first world problem!!!
My recommendation after many months of use is if you mostly rely on one device for your headphones, then I'd go with the Sony. If you constantly switch between devices (in my case - phone, ipad, chromebook, PC, and android tablet) and need 2 connections at a time, then I'd seriously look at the Bose. Ease of use and convenient do matter over times. I like the sound of Sony, but I kept gravitate to the Bose for daily use because how easy it is the change between devices.

This is an excellent review, great content and presentation. One thing I will mention is that a lot of people tend to say that the Sony's have better sound quality because of the punch of the bass. I don't understand why people focus on bass so much when there's such a wide variety of music where bass is not always desired at the level that the Sony's offer. I do appreciate the equalizer in the Sony app though, but it is frustrating that people just seem to think that more bass means better sound quality.

I've had the Bose QC35II for 2 years, and was never happy with how they felt:1) physical comfort - I suspect these are made for LARGE heads but for me, they always felt like the headband was about to slip backwards and off my head 2) I felt weird with the noise cancellation on, I guess it's what people refer to as cabin pressure (but it happens all the time), and also when I touch the plastic casing while the headphones were on, the mic would amplify the sound. Anyway, I just bought the Sony WH-XB900N and WOW I LOVE them. The most comfortable sitting on my head and over my ears, and the sound is much more comfortable and natural. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM. The Sony 1000M3 are obviously fantastic too but the XB900 has more comfy ear cushions.

Igor Perin I’ve always really enjoyed their balanced sound, and with the app, they are extensively configurable for EQ. The ANC is “good”, but not as good as the PXC-550 (which I’m also trying now), and certainly not as good as the Sony’s being reviewed here.
I really like the Sennheiser sound profile, they start out very balanced, somewhat more bass than the normal profile, it very clear miss and highs as well.
And they are VERY durable. Most times 8 simply put them in their microfiber pouch, put them in my bag and go. I’ve never had any issues with multi-device switching, nor any issues with comfort. Again though, after a week with the Sony’s, they seem like five-year old tech (which they are).
I keep them for around the house listening and still use them as a Plan “B”.

You can use the Sony with two devices (limited). They have one bluetooth connection for HQ music playback (aptX, LDAC etc.) and one for HSP/HFP. For instance I can connect my voip phone (desk) with the Sony and playing music from my mobile. If a call goes in, I click on headset and can talk over the headphone. A colleague showed me that (he owns the Bose). The music on the smartphone won't stop, but its muted until you finished calling, then you hear music again ;)
On my android system there is also written in the bluetooth connection that it can only play music and not used as a headset when I connect it with the voip phone. Maybe this works also with the computer.
One downside, if you use it on the PC with the passive mode (with cable) it sounds like garbage, you have to activate them to sound like always (there is also an impendance change). Second if you try to use the microphone on Windows 10 then the output switches to the bad HFP mode instead using the HQ codec. But its not a gaming headset, otherwise it would be the best overall headset ever.

I definitely became more uncomfortable with the Sony’s after 1.5 - 2 hrs and needed to take them off. The Bose somehow gave my big ears room and the curiously enough the music I was listening just felt lighter in the Bose. I’m glad you’re one of the very few honest about their mic. Actually it’s not because of wind. Overall Sony perform very poor even in indoor noisy places like coffee shop or chatty office. With some people getting very early batch of Sony, the mic is unusable at all and I’d suggest sending them to Sony.
Bose mic win not only its physical implementation, it is its processing picking our voice way better than anything in the market.

I have them both and to be honest they are both amazing. Bose has better sound, more balanced, and is awesome for all kinds of music. They’re extremely comfortable and have great build quality. They are really amazing to use with several devices at the same time, and switching between them is very easy.
As for the Sony’s, the sound is great but a lot more bass heavy which I found to be too much right out of the box. But using the EQ you can get a much more balanced sound, although not quite as good as the Bose, imo. They’re also very comfortable and the battery life is really good. The Sony’s can only connect to one device at a time, but that doesn’t bother me.

My big bro owns Bose QC35 II and I own the Sony WH1000XM3. Between the two, after around 1hrs of use, my eardrums hurt when I use the Sony, whereas the Bose didn't hurt my ears. My gf liked my bro's Bose QC35 II so she got the Bose 700, but she apparently thinks the QC 35 II has better sound quality and and comfort, so as much I would like to promote my Sony WH1000XM3, I have to be honest and admit that my bro made the better choice than me. Trust me, get the Bose. It is a no brainer when it comes to sound quality and comfort + great noice cancellation.

As I have compromised hearing in both ears, I would like a more detailed review on the Sony sound-molding & equalizer features in the Sony app. I'm returning the Bose I just bought & getting the Sony. Music & TV are more important to me than ambiant sound dampening. Thanks for a well produced & informative video.

A feature that Bose has that you didn’t touch on is “Music Share”. Bose allows two Bose QC35II’s to share the Bluetooth connection and listen to the same stream at the same time. This is a very cool feature for those that have friends who also have a newer Bose headset and want to listen to the same stream at the same time. My wife and I use this feature when we want to watch something on the iPad and not disturb anyone else. Thumbs up to the Bose!

I have both. The Bose are more comfortable and the controls are better since the Bose still use buttons. The Sony however are not as comfortable and the controls are a tad annoying since they use a touch pad for playing and answering calls (pretty annoying in cold temperatures) Still covering the pad to allow sound in is a good feature. However sound wise the Sony wins hands down, perfect bass and listening to music is a delight. I found the noise cancelling far better on the Sony as well as the app.

Bought the Sony, Sound Quality and Noise Cancelling second to NONE..Amazing, much better than the BOSE in my opinion. BUT I take a lot of calls and found out no one could hear me on the Sony .. also pairing to multiple devices is extremely useful for travelling and connecting to my laptop and mobile at the same time. Long story short, I took the Sony back and got the Bose instead. Miss the sound and funky interface of the Sony but in my life, practicality reigns.

Why did I choose the Bose over Sony? 1. Pairing with two devices. 2. Excellent microphone compared to Sony which is horrible. 3. Physical buttons. 4. Comfort. 5. Great sound quality and NC. 6. Kick ass silver colour. If these don't matter for you and you just want a better bass sound, go for the Sony's.

    • @zaka2630
      @zaka2630 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      1. I don't give 2 shits about this feature.
      2. The Microphone has been improved in a firmware update. You make it sound like it really is horrible. Try it after the update before judging.
      3. The Sony has physical buttons as well. Touch controls work perfect. Again, this point makes no sense.
      4. The Sonys are extremely comfortable as well. You make it sound like they'll make you hurt. The Bose only has a slight advantage in terms of comfort. Nice try.
      5. The sound quality in the Sony is objectively better. The Bose sounds flat.
      6. My Sony also has a kickass gold-ish / silver color. Totally subjective.
Reasons why you souldn't even look at the Bose:
      7. The Sonys have Usb-C charging.
      8. WAY better app and ANC features (Atmospheric optimization for less cabin pressure in flights, your Bose wouldn't do shit in such situation).
      9. APTX / APTX-HD and LDAC codecs. Destroys SBC which the Bose are limited to.
One would be a fool to get the Bose given all the beforementioned points. It's like purchasing an Apple device, the price makes no sense but people still buy it.
Sony is the objectively better buy and only fanboys would say otherwise!

@@zaka2630 First of all, this is my opinion, if you don't like it, at least respect it. Don't call me 'a fanboy' or 'a fool', it's all subjective and the least thing to do is to show respect to different opinions and not to judge others. My friend has the Sony and we tested the microphone, she couldn't hear me, I did a thorough reading and hands-on comparison before I purchased the Bose. We tested different songs on both and some liked the sound on Bose, it's all a matter of taste.

quick explanation on short cable chargers: most people arent aware that the shorter the cable the quicker the charge, by using a 1 foot cable you can assure that you'll be able to charge your phone "quickly" regardless of the amperage output of a given usb port, most commercially available ports in cars, planes and public usb stations will output around 500mah to 1 amp, rarely you will find something at 2 or higher, dc outputs rapidly looses strenght over distance and if sony provides you with a 5 foot cable and you try to use this in your subaru's wimpy 500 mah port your headphones will take FOREVER to charge

I bought the Bose after trying the both at shop. Personally I like the classic design (and the silver color is cool for any gender). And the Bose is more comfortable in terms of sound quality (maybe base sound is slightly softer than the Sony?) and pressure of speaker cups, if you put the headphones for hours.
Go to a store and try them on. If possible, look at mirror to see which one suits you better :) Enjoy !

That's what competition is all about; I thought Bose was the untouchable gold standard, until I discovered noisehush from naztech at 1/3 the price, which sounded very close to as good. Unfortunately after barely a year they stopped working (the soldered in battery won't take a charge anymore). So your very well thought out review of the the Sony, which I have not yet heard for myself, is very helpful, since I was nearly convinced to get the Bose QC35 until I saw your presentation. Thanks!

  • @slydog7131

Good review. I differ on how comfortable the QC35-II is. The padding isn't that soft and the shape of the band does not conform to the shape of most heads. This puts all the pressure on an area about 1x2 inches on top, and after a while, that area starts to hurt. I also have the QC-2 from many years ago. THAT is a super-comfortable headphone. The bands matches the shape of the head, and the width of the band gracefully increases to 1.5 inches on top. The result is that pressure is distributed over a wide area. The QC-2 is also lighter in weight. The result is that they can be worn for many hours without being aware of any comfort issues.. So, the QC35-II are a big set down in comfort from the QC-2, though the NC is a huge step up.
