Thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve had my 2023 GR86 for 3 days now and am experiencing the exact same issue. I called Toyota care and the rep told me the SOS button is broken and would need serviced at the dealer. Can’t wait to try your method. Thanks again!
Happy to report this worked!! I held down the blue button for maybe 10 seconds, then the lights blinked and the infotainment system switched from Pandora to FM radio. Figured it did something… So I pressed the red SOS button and it dialed right out. A nice young lady answered and verified email. She also had to remove my car from the account an re-add it. In the end it was easy and it works now. I have a manual transmission, which I assume negates the remote start option.
@@FujiboHeavy Am I correct to assume that yours is an auto?? Thanks. Ordered it on January 16 and picked her up Tuesday. Paid MSRP too. Went with Neptune Blue, reminds me of a Smurf.
Excellent information! I just bought one. Same issue. No remote connect. No SOS active. I called remote support three times. They couldn't help me active. Unbelievable that they don't know to suggest the process you show in your video. I did exactly what you suggested and was able to speak with someone there. Now I wait to see if they can actually sync up. Thanks for sharing this. Great job!
Hopefully this helps anyone who is having issues with first time setup and the "SOS" button not working on your brand new GR86. Im sure that most dealers would set this up prior to listing the vehicle for sale, but if not, this is how you can get the SOS button to work :)
I reactivated my remote connect. Added safety connect to activate my remote connect. They said they activated. I haven’t been able to use the remote connect. People on the phone are useless. They told me to check with a dealer. Called dealer. They said it’s an app issue so I need to call Toyota.
@@nielp91 yea for me. Once I called out to Toyota using SOS button, they were able to resolve it. I didnt have to do anything my end with the app. Hopefully they can get you straight. Do you have Automatic or Manual?
Going through the same thing with the dealer over and over. They replaced DCM and still doesn't work. No lights at all. Going to try what you posted when I get home.
Okay so before watching this video I did these steps 2 times and spoke with 2 different people and both gave me different numbers to call one said I needed safety connection and remote connect subscriptions to get it started and then the other guy said my account was not active and I should call another person so I waited an hour watched your video and decided to pay for the safety connect ( which you mostly don’t need to get remote start to work but I did anyway just to test out) I called SOS again and i women picked up and I repeated the same thing I told the last told only this time she asked for my vin and once I gave it to her she just told me to reload my app and after that it works fine. So to help out anyone else in the future with the problem I’ve had just keep calling and eventually you’ll get someone that will activate it.
thanks for the update! Yea it took me a couple calls as well getting the run around. It was a bit annoying because, I was hoping the dealer was able to resolve it, but they had no idea about holding down the "i" button to enable the SOS button. But as long as you hit the SOS button and it calls out, SOS support should be able to activate on their end
@@FujiboHeavydid they also tell you that you need safety connect subscription along with remote connect subscription to get it to work? Because the first guy I talked with I told them I didn’t and was told to buy it and if I’m having trouble subscribing to call another number and on the app it doesn’t mention you need both for it to work.
@@iml4360 I had a free 1yr trial at the time, but you do need to pay for the service after it expires if you want to retain remote start/lock/unlock functions
@@FujiboHeavyoh ok, It seems the SOS people you speak with either are not all trained or don’t have the proper equipment to set up the remote feature which would explain why on forums everyone is having different experiences some get it to work the first time while others have stated they called 6+ times and still can’t get it set up properly. You just have to get lucky it’s like a game of chance maybe you’ll get someone who can help you and maybe you won’t which is ridiculous but I guess that’s just the way Toyota is doing it
its pretty basic lol. Perfect for simply Lock/Unlock and Remote Start. In addition, you have access to your owners manual and roadside assistance items

@@FujiboHeavy that would be very interesting to see. I have a question unrelated to this topic how is the trunk space? can you fit two full size check bag on the car or with the seats folded. (I really cant find any info) lol
@@burningreaper333 yessir. I have all season tires and street pads, so I will also be testing the setup in a performance setting as well. Trunk space is ok, especially with seats folded down. I would say as long as the bags are no longer than 12" in height it should fit. I can fit 3 full wheel/tires in trunk and 1 on pass seat if that helps. I always keep a storage crate and storage container (tools) that takes up most of the space in my trunk currently. I can fit maybe like 3-4 bags of groceries on top of that
