    17 bolts on that cover to change oil - great design Kia!

      yea really. It wouldn't hurt to cut a opening for the filter and drain bolt, or designed it to have a flap you can remove.

      My 2014 Sorento has a factory cut out for the oil filter, also I can reach the drain bolt just like that, so I don't need to remove the cover for engine oil change, only remove for transmissoon fluid change

    Good, but one thing. Take a large nail, something like a roofing nail and drive it about halfway into the top center of the oil filter and pull it back out. This will nicely drain the oil out of it without it slopping all over the place.

    I did exactly what was done in this video. Why is the engine idling weird??? Like it feels like it wants to stall but doesn’t

    Those lower covers are a PITA. Sometimes the bolts are rusty and hard to get off. I wonder about just leaving it off but then always put it back on. Would have been nice to have an access panel built in for oil changes. My sons Sonata has access panels for oil changes. Makes it much easier.

    • @jaythemechanic4950
      @jaythemechanic4950  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know!!! But you should always put it back. Its for aero dynamics and also protects your vehicle electronics from water and moisture.

    How many liters of oil do you need for a 4 cylinder gdi engine Sorento 2017

    The lower engine cover goes on after you checked to make sure nothing is leaking.

    When I was shown how to do oil changes on my first car they put some oil in the filter before installing it. Do you recommend doing that?
    Thanks for the video. I wanted to see if my car would be difficult to change or not. Thanks!

      Thank you for your question. It is NOT necessary.

    • @ih302
      @ih302 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No but you need to oil the o-ring on the new filter with new oil and ensure that the o-ring from the old filter isn't stuck to the underside of the engine.

    I'm thinking I take a 4" hole saw. Make a port for the filter and the screw. Never take those 17 screws out except that first time. 😂

    • @jaythemechanic4950
      @jaythemechanic4950  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s right. Just like they did to other model cars. Not sure why they decided to put a giant splash shield and not leave access holes. 😂😂. Who approved that design?

  • @Angohio279
    @Angohio279 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: my engine splash guard is partially torn and I would like to leave it off after the oil change. Is there any reason I should replace it? I know these are standard for newer cars but it’s a nuisance

      Hi .. If you're just driving on the streets you don't have to but it's a good idea to have a little protection just in case.

    • @ih302

      It's there for aerodynamics so....

  • @johnholland3207

    This is why I always do my own oil changes. The drive through places are probably going to leave your engine shield off if they don't destroy it first. I live in Michigan and the bolts are often difficult to remove. You have to have a lot of patience and some lube. I only have to do it once a year since it is only driven approximately 5000 miles a year. If I had to do it more than that I would probably just leave it off.Or maybe someone will do a video on how to cut out an access panel for this vehicle.

    Is there a crush washer that needs to be replaced on the drain plug?

  • @iused2bfast153
    @iused2bfast153 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Wish the oil pan drain plug was located lower so all the oil would drain out. 2.4L and 1.6L same deal. The older 2.0L engines had a well designed oil pan so the plug was at the very lowest point

    Just found this. Thanks. I bring my car to the dealer. They neglected to reinstall the splash guard properly. Of course they denied it. Dealer OEM replacement is $460.00. I bought one online for $135. Wish me luck installing it.

      Thats too bad... It is very helpful to find a trustworthy independent mechanic... Changing your oil is a great time to have the vehicle inspected to see if anything needs attention in the near future... I highly doubt these " quick change" oil places do that. Most are not certified mechanics/ technicians. They just want to sell you a cabin air filter/ wiper blades/and a coolant flush. :)

    • @nickr3441
      @nickr3441 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never go to jiffy or any of those places. It's worth the extra 20 or even 40 and do it at the dealership

    • @NegatveSpace
      @NegatveSpace ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had something similar to me happen. For me the front part of it came off, got bent under and ripped up dragging on the road. Now I have to use some zip ties to keep it on because some of the holes where the screws go are torn up. Some of the ones that weren't as torn up I put large washers on there since the hole is now larger than the bolt will hold up by itself. Doing the oil change myself also saves me $30-50 and there is no wait. :)
