Nice video! There are so many bad designs out there now, I check oil filter and plug location before I buy any vehicle these days... Good that they're using a real filter and not a paper filter with a metal cover to remove. 17 bolts on that cover does look painful though -- after about the 5th time, I'd probably cut a chunk out of my cover just big enough to get my hand and wrench in there. 😆

KIA's oem oil filters are quality filters. I changed oil in my son's KIA Soul yesterday and noticed again how the media pleats are even and closely spaced.
I use a cordless ratchet on the 17 bolts and it's fast to remove the cover on the Sorento. The 2020 Soul has nice cutouts for filter and drain plug.

Why couldn't Hyundai/Kia design the oil pan so the plug is at the lowest point on the 2.4 and 1.6L engines? The older 2.0L pans had the plug at the lowest point. Also the 2.4L pams are prone to hairline cracks if the plug is over torqued, good to see you use a torque wrench

The service Interval can be modified in the user settings for v6 models. Not sure about v4.
It's kind of odd, my son's 2020 Soul (4 cylinder) allows you to enter miles by 100s and days between intervals. Our 2020 Sorento 2.4 (4 cylinder), has no user adjustment. It is 7500 miles and 365 days. Period.

Great video. I'm very pleased with my 2015 Sorento and have just completed an oil change. One thing I noticed from you video, and seems a bit of a backward step, is on my vehicle there is access panels for the oil sump plug and filter in the engine splash guard. This means I can just unclip the access panels rather than having to remove the whole guard. I wonder why they did not keep this on the newer models? All the best from the UK.
I wondered the same thing. My son has a 2020 Soul and it has really nice cutouts for both the drain plug and the oil filter.
My Sorento has a 100% solid splash guard.

Is the 7500 mile interval for normal driving? They should have another interval for severe driving as well
Yes, the severe driving such as lots of stop and go, short trips and above normal idling, is 3750 miles. To me it's a little tough to put your exact style on either schedule, barring of course something like a 7,500 road trip or a taxi style service.

Appreciate your video. Can you please provide me with the part number shown on the oil dipstick for your KIA? I'm trying to determine if I have the correct dipstick in my 2.4L Theta II.
My 2019 Sorento LX dipstick has a red handle but the part number stamped on the metal portion of the DS is #26611-2G020-I am confused because I thought this DS part # was for the pre-recall Yellow handled dipsticks. Any info clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think we are good to go with our dipsticks, just make sure your 2.4 is holding 5 quarts for an oil change. Let drain completely.
A guy laid out the yellow and orange/red models and the new red handle ds indicates the added 12 to 14 ounces more capacity over the yellow ds.

Thanks for reply and info. My ds reading after o&f changes at dealerships and lube shops has been approx 3/8" - 1/2" above the full dot...they must be overfilling. I think this could damage the engine. Will have to drain down to full dot on red ds. This certainly is frustrating. Will probably start changing o&f myself. Thanks agian!
@@bwd8429 They are idiots, our brand new 2020 Sorento had 55 psi in all 4 tires, the tire psi recommended on OEM door label is 34 psi and max rated on tire is showing 44 Max,

If you do the o&f changes yourself, how does this go over with KIA dealership when warranty work is needed...can they push back because a KIA owner changes o&f while still in warranty period.

It could be depending on trim level. KIA does some strange things from a marketing standpoint. On my 2020 LX, no option to change OCI.

34.3 ~ 44.1 N.m (3.5 ~ 4.5 kgf.m, 25.3 ~ 32.5 lb-ft)
My experience with hundreds of oil changes in Honda, Subaru, Ford and GM, FCA and others, the minimum of 25 ft/lbs leaves me concerned.
The 35 is my number due to the oil drain plug size and material (steel).

That's a good deal, I wish I had the option on mine but it's not there. I keep a maintenance log on all engines so.....I'll never experience a sludged engine anyway.
