    Reiza have been releasing 'minifix' updates over the past few days, so what you're seeing here with my 120 strength race likely isnt the same as what is available anymore
    Hopefully the changes are for the best!

    It seems to me that the AI not only don't feel the aero wash, but they also feel no "fear" which is why they run at 250 MPH 3 wide for 20 laps. I think if AMS worked harder on making the AI more willing to lift out of sketchy situations and keep a little more distance at high speed. I'd love to see AI have more of a risk management setting for these tracks.

    • @RalonsoF1

      The development is still going on, as well on the AI. So we should get this and even more, at the end! 😉😉

    • @RonniePeterson
      @RonniePeterson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think the oval AI are better than humans to race with. Tough but fair. Okay I have only tried three full 1 hour races so far at Fontana and the Daytone Tri-oval but I have had none of the problems others have been complaining about. For me some of the best racing in any sim/ game ever.

    • @bertram-raven
      @bertram-raven 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The AI parameters are actually adjustable but only by editing a configuration file - there are many psychological parameters in addition to mechanical adjustments. Reiza fully document it on the forums. I use the file in an attempt to match members of our leagues.

    • @RonniePeterson
      @RonniePeterson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bertram-raven In short Reiza will evolve the AI for all race formats over time for the majority not willing to edit config files. Doing this on your own can be a lot of fun. I remember the pleasure in turning down the aggression of Surtees in GPL by such means. But it can go horribly wrong. For me Reiza has done a great job thus far and I can be patient. I mean its not like they have not given us enough toys to play with already.

      @@cbj4sc1 That was mostly overreacting. Fontana in 2015 produced arguably the greatest race in modern IndyCar history, maybe of all time. It was *that* good for many who watched it. Yes, there was a blowover crash at the end but throughout the day, they were able to race three/four/five wide without issue because of how wide the track is. Made for perfect pack racing that wasn't as scary. Drivers like Will Power certainly were overreacting afterwards, it was never anywhere close to Las Vegas 2011.

    If the options are Hollywood level fearless AI that that races 4 wide all the time but is totally predictable in a pack vs "More realistic" AI that is focused on self preservation that lifts and brake checks constantly (Like Pcars 2), I'll take the former over the latter. I would also argue this is not as big of a issue over long distance races, where the AI usually gets spread apart into more realistic smaller packs over a pit cycle as you would see in real life.
    Overall though, I had more fun today screwing around at Fontana than I ever have before in AMS 2. Oval racing, albeit not 100% realistic, is so incredibly fun in this game I don't care about the AI being Hollywood. That same thing could be said about the whole game. AMS 2 is fundamentally realistic enough to be called a simulation, authentic enough to beggar belief, approachable enough anyone can jump in and play it, and fun enough to make you forget about the quirks that make it less realistic than its counterparts.
    I for one, am very very happy with that. Reiza has struck a balance that no other racing dev has since the original Gran Turismo. Well done Reiza, and onwards into 2023!

    the on board roll bars adjustment has never actually done anything in my experience so that isn't a new issue but, I'm sure Reiza will mend that issue, I am so sad that my PC no longer works 'cause I absolutely ADORE this sim! had taken about a year long break from it and started playing it again just before the big tyre compound and side wall flex update and was pretty impressed, then the tyre update came out and then they started re-working the aero for all the cars and I fell back in love.
    used to be that AMS2 would have fleeting moments of greatness and when it worked as intended it felt amazing, now I honestly believe it is was one of best feeling sims on the market, I have yet to play a sim that actually gives you meaningful information about what the rear end is doing/about to do and the feeling of being connected to the ground is superb!
    cannot wait to get a new PC and play this game again, not much of an oval fan but I could see that changing after doing a couple oval races in this sim lol.

    Totally agree with you on the AI not being affected by dirty air in the turns. The fact that basically only 120 AI difficulty provides an actual race at the ovals is a bit disappointing, and even at 120 you can eventually overtake them since they get sruck in large packs at speedways like Fontana. Hopefully now that Reiza are satisfied with the base physics they can spend more time developing the AI to behave more realistically, have improved pit strategies, and just perform more consistently across different types of tracks and car classes.

For me the weight jacker worked well, cold tires, first few laps, 4 to 5 and then to 3 and up to 5 in traffic. Maybe that’s because I changed the rake up the car quite a bit? You were at 💯 turbo boost, I wonder how realistic that was? I found out in a 90’s FB page that boost used was about 40-50 on RC. I went to 80 in practice and they ate my lunch. It’s fun but as I stated in another post in here, Ai doesn’t have cold tires, exiting the pits they were gone. Ohh, the bar adjustment incar, that didn’t do anything for me. Great video

    I think there are a few issues with ovals in the last few decades.
    1. People have gotten kind of burned out on all the 1.5-milers.
    2. There's just not the variety of lengths and shapes of ovals.
    3. In Indy Cars, the 1.5-milers were sort of damned after 2011.
    I mean, the latter was one of the great things about having Pocono come back, while it lasted. We haven't had Michigan or Fontana reliably in what seems like ages. And we don't have a proper 1.0-miler at all. So there's no Loudon, Milwaukee, or Nazareth. The last of those also ticked the "interesting shape" box.
    Unfortunately, even if you could swing Pikes Peak, it just has such a similar shape to Iowa now, and the same goes for Richmond. Of course, like Nazareth, Rio is gone. So yeah, it's just a bit frustrating on that front.
    If we got some '70s or early '80s Indy Cars, Trenton, the old Atlanta, or Texas World Speedway would definitely be a thought.
    Thinking on it a bit more, another fairly unique one, also defunct like Rio, would be the Rockingham, UK oval.

A few things need fixed (iracing is the same too),Ai cars out of the pits want to run you over, it’s like they had tire warmers on. Setting the car up, I got the biggest improvements with just rake. Will need to get in their and dial it in. It’s fun, more historical (I guess 23yrs counts lol)as I prefer road courses. Just like iracing you need to be an engineer to be fast on ovals.

    Really impressive driving and game! But yes that AI is currently very unrealistic for open wheeler racing. Driving with your front wing within a metre of the car in front for half the lap is crazy. In real life I don't think these cars would even be controllable for long at that distance due to turbulence. Hopefully the AI can be tweaked as you said. I prefer open wheel cars but this exact same race with Nascars using the same AI would be very interesting though.

    Indycar needs more ovals. I miss the 2003 and on schedules at least for amount of ovals we had. I would go to Indy, Kentucky, Chicagoland, Nashville Super speedway, and at beginning of season Homestead, (then St Pete Street that very next weekend which always was awesome as far as best of both worlds goes) then I would go to Texas. Open wheel open cockpit, gnarly speeds and G’s and those Chassi’s right there, awe the good ole days. We need the triple crown back or at least start by at least bringing Michigan back and give us a 500 mile track like that since Texas is really the only other “as exciting” race we have next to of course Indy/IMS. Though Texas is off the schedule now more than likely which is the worse thing that could have happened to Indycar. At least we always still had Texas. Still have never been to Iowa and definitely would like to experience a doubleheader there. Great video!

      Ovals require people to show up. The only way that happens is getting a title sponsor like Bommarito at Gateway and HyVee in Iowa to go above and beyond. Compare the crowds there and the "crowd" at Texas that does as little as possible.

    I've learned to temper my expectations of anything newly released from Reiza. This new oval stuff is about at the level I was expecting. Meh. The caution periods I have been seeing are completely pointless, they don't even last for one full lap so you can't pit or do anything anyway. The AI is just bonkers, it's like NASCAR plate racing.

    Did you have to make significant tweeks to the stock setup? I have the AI set to 95 and they are basically unbeatable for me. Qualifying times are 8 tenths off wide open all the way around and low fuel

    Great video, regarding the pit menu though thats been in AMS2 since the beginning matey its one of the features of the madness engine and was in PCars series too, I like that unlike ACC/AC etc you can even time its shit down in the settings menu. I've got mine set to 20seconds so after I do something it'll show for 20seconds before turning off. Great for adjusting stuff over a lap easily without having to always open it.
    And I gotta ask, how many records did you do to get this race, as a rookie oval guy Ive yet to get like 5-6 laps into a race before being taken out by AI or due to total lack of skill and having FCY as I have to retire :D

      Oh and for the replays, maybe just general if you turn off motion blur you get rid of the weird blur around the cars in replays, really improves stuff. And for the pack stuff, I do wonder if you added the custon AI Cfg how it would be, given thats how the get the best outta the AI by having custom AI configs with a wide skill, chance of mistake, aggression skill set to really spread stuff out as the race progresses.

      Unless you get introduced to oval racing by someone knowledgeable it's hard to understand that the cars actually form a dynamic "terrain" for the race so you're not just going around the same circuit again and again.
