@@mattiapresti7295 OG Assetto Corsa feels significantly better than Automobilista 2 imo. That being said, I haven't tried the newest update. But every time I've tried it, the front end always felt super vague and I could never get a good feel for how I was loading up the tires when cornering. While in Assetto Corsa, I can judge grip levels and load up the tires with so much more precision, detail, and control. It's such a big difference that I've never been able to get into AM2R despite trying many times, pretty much whatever they claim to have improved the tire model and FFB.

@@mattiapresti7295 Please stop citing rf2 as having a good tyre model. The full tyre model is only available to those with the pro version, and even that requires customisation by the development team. rf2 is now ancient technology and feels like it. There are clearly a multitude of Rose Tinted windscreens on those sim-rigs.

I'm stunned that AMS2 Devs had acted that way towards "Mr Punterino" for pointing out what surely the coders must already have known. I wonder how this bug was found. You don't find bugs by looking at code; you find bugs by running the program (testing and playing). Reading between the lines i think what they mean is "that bug you found: we identified the cause".

The devs only described the issue with their model, not how it could've affected the driving experience of the player. Jim made all that part up.

With what happened between you and Reiza a couple years ago, I'm honestly impressed you gave it a second chance. No matter who was in the right back then, this was a very commendable step on your part that many people wouldn't have had the character to make after having such a "falling out".
I also think it's justified. Being a regular forum user, there has always been a tendency of "one step forward, half a step back" with the physics of this game, resulting in some good and some horrible cars (like the Caterhams).
Being a beta member now, I can honestly say that every car that receives these updates is either subtly or massively better off for it. Not to say it's perfect, because nothing will ever be, but it's much, much closer.

So it wasn't just me then (the Caterhams), they felt good in every game I played *except* AMS2, and was wondering why so many were raving about it in this game. I tried to tune them up and they drove like absolute dogshit no matter what. It made no sense because I watched numerous IRL track videos and the physics in the game did NOT match up or even get anywhere close to what they're like IRL. I haven't played the game in some months now but if the physics update is really this good I might have to hop on again.

The reason I come back to AMS 2 is because its super easy to set up a private online server, invite your friends, fill the lobby with AI, and go race with a bunch of options. There is a lot of fun to be had there. I am really excited to see the rest of the update as more and more cars get the physics patch since racing the GT3s, the mini JCWs, and some of the lower class cars still feels super disconnected. Ive really enjoyed my time with this game so far, always happy to see games move in a positive direction.

Awesome to see you try the game again! For me 1.5 is so substantial it's hard to drive any other content that doesn't have it, cannot wait for the full patch next week. The amount of tracks and racing series this game has out of the box, combined with the dynamic weather system and their AI improvements is some of the best sim racing experiences I've ever had. It really helps that the online community can be really chill to play with since it's so small and dedicated, and setting up a server and inviting your friends is a breeze (compared to RF2/AC/ACC anyways lol).
I strongly recommend you give the historic Norsdchleife a go! Easily the best version of that historical track ever made in a sim, so detailed and the Sudschleife is absolutely incredible. Spa historical is up there too, I just did that last night with a couple friends in Group C cars and the experience was so intense and scary fast. Lots of content to be enjoyed in this sim even with this amount of cars with the new physics, but next week when they all get it it should be so fun, can't wait to discover what new cars are gonna be my favorite :D

Explaining the gear shifting issue, you can damage gears with repeated bad shifts. It shouldn't be that easy to mess up upshifts with that car as I believe it should have auto-cut (maybe a bug that slipped through), but it absolutely will happen with some of the F-Classics that had sequentials and no auto-cut if you don't rev match.

Just in case owners of AMS2 are on the RC stream on Steam are confused, the BETA stream is entirely separate and requires permission from Reiza to access. Those of us lucky enough to try it out are not permitted to post images or video of what we see. The reason is some of the content is WIP whilst other parts are close to release, and the builds add and remove parts constantly to allow testing to be focused on specific areas of development.
The upcoming DLC is awesome but not polished, yet. I have never had as much laugh-out-loud fun as when driving on the beta multiplayer servers. It is very freeing when SR is not on the line.

I doubt Reiza had any idea how much would be involved in turning around the PC2 handling and FFB, but kudos to them for putting in massive work to tear it all down and rebuild it into something much improved. I've been on the beta branch and they are working through the car classes updating to the 1.5 model and tuning the AI. Thanks, Jimmy, for taking a fresh look at AMS2 and delivering another fair assessment of the sim. In the three years since its initial release, AMS2 certainly has generated more than its fair share of frustration--for simracers, developers, and content creators alike. Fortunately, Reiza appear to have identified the remaining hive of physics gremlins and are in the process of rooting them out. The upcoming V1.5 physics and tire model updates have the potential to elevate the driving experience in AMS2 out of the "Simulator-ish" tier and into the upper echelon of racing sims. Undoubtedly, other areas remain that can benefit from further development, but class-leading VR, a wide range of content, and (finally) a realistic, predictable, and entertaining driving experience is more than enough to merit a second chance.

For me, I couldn't stand the physics of AMS2 either for a long time. I think it was late 2021 where they finally released a big FFB and tire model overhaul that finally made the driving mostly enjoyable. Still wasn't perfect as that simultaneous oversteer/understeer/floaty feeling never fully went away, but at least with the new FFB and tire model, you could tune most of it out. That update finally got me comfortable with the driving, but it was the AI that honestly kept me playing it. Every other sim, the AI just drive around single file and are very predictable to race against. The AI in AMS2 still struggle and can be predictable through certain corners, but they're so much more aggressive when battling other cars that it just creates for some really fun and brilliant racing. Coming from AC where the AI just give you the corner even though they still have two car lengths on you, AMS2's AI will pin you on the outside of the track, try to out break you, and actually try to come back on you before you get away. When you get near them, they'll push themselves further and sometimes make mistakes because so like missing the apex or hitting track limits. So I'm really excited for the Le Mans update coming later this year. Only thing I feel AMS2 is missing are modern prototypes and GTs. Also Reiza's historic tracks have just been absolutely amazing. You have to give a 70s F1 car ago on the 1971 Nordschliefe.

However with every major update I checked back into AMS2 and it's now at the point for me, where I consider it to be as good as AC.
And since they're not stopping with development anytime soon, it will probably be my favorite race sim farely soon.

Having never heard about the AMS2 devs and community coming after you, my first thought upon hearing about it was "Well, it's not like he wants to not like it." and I glad you echoed my thoughts during the video. Sometimes you just don't enjoy an experience, and that's fine, and it's fine when others disagree. No one jumps into a game (or anything for that matter) wanting to not like it, and people get so worked up over differing opinions. You enjoy it, cool. If you don't enjoy it, also cool.
Well done though for actually coming back after the bad experience, despite everything you've given it another go and enjoyed it. As you said, hopefully the AMS2 community can be a bit kinder about it all in the future.

Some friends and I started what will hopefully become an annual series where we race pretty much every month, and 99% of our races/planned races are in AMS2. And yes, we've run into some problems here and there, especially in multiplayer, but overall it's been a fun series so far.
I've personally been mainly playing AMS2 over other games since I bought it around the middle of last year because the physics, especially after I got used to them, felt nicer for me personally to deal with. Sure, some cars are insanely difficult to drive and I won't really bother touching them much, but over time I've definitely found myself liking more and more of the cars either from updates or me simply being more used to how they run. And our little series isn't exactly a group of veteran sim racers, I'm one of the most experienced and before this, I spent more time on Project CARS than anything else. One of the others comes from iRacing, meanwhile, the remaining two are totally new to sim racing. Heck, one of those two is using a controller lmao
I know a lot of people have their problems with this game, and we'd certainly like for some of the glitches we've run into to be fixed (some already have thankfully), but overall for us it's a fun experience and kinda fits our playstyle now. Next session incidentally is actually at Long Beach, we're taking the Copa Montanas for 158 laps and those things are surprisingly fun to drive for all of us!

One of the issues AMS2 had (or have related to not updated cars), was that the default/default+ FFB felt really strange, which I think contributed cars feeling strange for many. I was pretty happy with few of the custom FFB options, but naturally those custom FFB files doesn't come with the game and you would need to go that extra effort to find and install one. Fortunately this isn't the case anymore with the cars with updated tire model and I hope it still holds true with rest of the cars when full 1.5 is released.
Not sure what has happened with the devs in the past, but for the past year I have followed the AMS2 forums, I haven't noticed any stupid or offensive behavior from the developers. As for fanboys, nah, I don't think it's any more toxic than with any other sim out there. It's quite natural reaction to get defensive when somebody starts claim something you like a lot as crap, even though it might be true.
I have had a lot of fun AMS2 in the past year, it's improving all the time and there is a lot of great content. I honestly think these latest improvements to the handling make a huge difference to previous. Even from the updated cars, some feel better than others (Formula Junior feels really good and fun to try). Even though I'm currently focusing on rFactor 2, I don't have problems going back to AMS2 (for updated cars).

I think the modern world seems less able to cope with constructive feedback. Carry on Mr Broadbent but also wishing a bright future for Automobilista 2.
P.S. They fixed a catastrophic bug. Frankly the developer should be grovelling and apologising to loyal users who now have to adjust their driving skills away from something that was actually broken, lol. Kinda proves Mr Broadbent's point as well. Sorry, long day, too much wine, a jazz cigarette and feeling feisty.

Good for you for sticking to your guns and calling a sick cow for what it is. If the developers had 2 tire models conflicting with one another then it's on them to fix the issue and not criticize their customers for calling them out on it. Grip is key in any sim as we are driving cars on pavement, not ships on water. I'm glad to hear that this new release has addressed those tire issues and hopefully soon every car in the sim will be retrofitted with the fix.
Great driving in one of the most demanding, challenging and scary tracks ever in Cart. Back in the day this was of the dullest events to watch from the sofa. Clearly being in the cockpit gives you a sense of how incredibly tough this race was.

I never knew about AMS2's physics flaws, so when I got my sim rig FINALLY sorted just this week I booted it up and tried to have a race in a Ginetta...
It took 6 disheartening attempts for me to start the race because the settings kept defaulting to a 2 hour race rather than 10 laps as I kept trying to set it to.
I'd got some practice laps in, in which the car just felt a little odd to me the whole time, I started the successfully set 10 lap race... only to get 2 laps in, get nudged off the track without feeling the grip change and just lost all motivation to drive. I quit.
I even put up a social media post about how I'd spent so much time and effort getting it all ready to race and I just didn't care anymore.
I SHALL TRY AGAIN! But maybe with a different car or even a different game 😂

Why do this before the full v1.5 release? Reading the release notes reveals would know the entirety of the tyre model release is NOT in the partial update tested here. Important point as this will all change again in August.
FYI: The devs were not happy with Jimmy because he went all "funny influencer" and "funny content creator" rather than "researcher" and "reviewer". The failure to communicate was definitely not all one sided as JB suggests in this video. It was certainly annoying to hear a *list of incorrect information amongst legitimate criticism.* The forum posts were actually very respectful even when giving Jimmy a ticking off for not evidently not spending enough time doing his research before his video as SimRacing604 would have done. The forum posts recognised JB does not do in-depth reviews, just videos he finds entertaining and hopes we will, too. Being genuine is why JB is rightly and justifiably successful.
FWIW, I have never believed Jimmy has ever gone out of his way to attack the sim; it is just he suffers from being passionate. Like all of us with a driving passion for what we do, sometimes we come off as being a bit of a dick.
