I think they need to buff Winston's normal melee attack significantly. I mean, he's a huge gorilla and you're telling me he hits as hard as Tracer? It would give him a nice boost and play into the fact that he is what he is.
+Shazzbozz McRocketstrike They could even give it a minor knockback. From a thematic point of view I always thought it was weird that Winston, a freaking massive gorilla, had to ult to knock people around. But considering how low his damage is currently I think that even from a game design perspective a minor damage+cc buff on his melee would make sense; after all he is classified as a "tank/disruptor".
NerdExtrodinare Balance does not mean a complete amalgamation of all heroes. Make the spread 25-50 damage, with Tracer/Symetra being on the low end and Winston being on the top end or something like that.
Also note that Winston's jump has a minimum arc. So if you look straight up and jump, you'll jump straight up. However, if you look straight down, you'll still jump forward as if you were looking straight ahead. Remember the jump also does do 50 damage in a small AOE when you land, so you can use that to your advantage when fighting slow, squishy supports.
+Ring Rust Just imagine it. You're playing roadhog, you're dueling winston inside a small building, winston ults you, you ult too. You push him into the wall with your machine gun. He gets stuck there and can't hit you. You approach him slowly increasing the damage from your machine-shotgun. You melt his 1000 health.
Nice guide! That bit at 5:23 where you are fighting McRee I recommend using your leap ability to go straight up into the air. The leap is very easy to control (and I'm pretty sure it's1 second faster cooldown since you made this video) so you avoid some of his shots and land right on McRee's head. Another crucial part of Winston's kit could have saved you there: Using the ultimate instantly heals you up to 1,000 hp. Winston's shield can be placed onto the payload to move with it and it will counter moves like McRee's High Noon and Roadhog's Hook but will not stop HAnzo's ult, Symmetra's, Mei's or Winston's attacks etc. Sadly, melee attacks do LESS damage during Primal Rage. Hopefully they change that. IMO Winston is the most challenging and one of the most rewarding characters to master.
Quickest way to kill Winston: -Find an uninterested mother, and allow her baby son to get next to Winston. -Sit back and watch zoo keepers take him out.
I love Winston, I play him almost like an assassin, disrupt the backline and then jump out, making use of jumping vertically often for the damage and knockback on his jump but also the confusion of "where did the monkey go?" Also, placing down the shield then walking at an angle so that you're outside the circle and they have to walk through two walls of the shield seems to bee a good strat. Also, keep your gun reloaded as Winston... never wanna go in with 30ammo out of 100 :< I have about an hour on most characters, on winston I'm getting up to about 8 or 9 over the passed 2 days.
armor and shields are just hp -50% damage up to a cap of minimum damage, so against someone with small rapid fire, it's almost the same, against someone with large burst shots it's noticeable how much more you have vs other tanks. Technically all their hp is the same but behaves differently. Only hp that is more hp is that which is the base hp VS true damage, for instance Widow full charge shot.
Sounds like how I play him. It took me a while to get the hang of Winston, but been having a lot of success (and fun!) last couple days. I use jump A LOT, like, aggressively:). I, too, love nice vertical jumps and then zeroing in on my target(s) on the way down. Of course, you gotta look out for certain opponents that are good at shooting people out of the air. I do a lot of things with Winston, but i think it can be more or less summed up with: Jump in, Kill healer, jump out. Drop shield if you need to soak dps why you are running after mercy w/ your back toward enemy fire. When not attacking, I often hang around team/point/payload until I see a vulnerable healer or sniper to spring on. The best is a sniper that shoots at you, thereby giving up her or his location. An instant later, they have you flying at their face with 400hp still remaining. :) I don't 100% play it exactly this way, but seems to be the majority of my focus. I kinda like when there is a 2nd tank, because my frequent movement could potentially leave a healer at risk. I do always try not to leave them completely vulnerable or i will be sure to quickly return after a quick smash and jump. I def try to play winston on the edge. Just be a constant pest and disruption. It really takes focus fire to get you down in the 6 seconds you have before you can jump away to safety. Don't sell out on kills. Prioritize living and jump attacking again soon. Which reminds me of a tip. If you don't know where you are going to escape to before you jump into the fray, look around for it while you are attacking during those 6 seconds. It is easy to do, because your weapon requires virtually no aim, allowing you to look around your environment during skirmish.
I've been playing a lot of Winston as I try to change up my normally used heroes and I'm finding him to be a ton of fun. In my opinion he is quite versatile and pretty good at a number of different things, he just isn't fantastic at any one thing in particular. It is really satisfying to be able to leap up to some perch that a Hanzo, Pharrah, or Widowmaker is using to snipe from and just obliterating them. Winston is also ideal for singling out healers, wherever they may be. Since healers normally play the back, Winston can just jump over the entire line of scrimmage and land right on healers' heads and take them out before anyone knows what is going on. Now, he'll probably die in the process, but being able to take out one or two of the enemy and breaking their line is probably worth it.
He is great fun to play, albeit with some critical weaknesses that you have to work around. The biggest problem with Winston is that he doesn't get credit for what he does: he's a disruptor, so he's great as part of a competent team but typically works to create confusion and mayhem in the opposition team allowing your teammates to take objectives and (often) finish off the opponents you've weakened. I've had dozens of games in which I was instrumental in achieving all the objectives but wasn't even listed in the vote list at the end of the game because Winston's stats don't reflect his contribution. Instead you'll just see the same old Bastions and Junkrats getting POTG and high stats for doing pretty brainless stuff. Winston's biggest nemesis is Roadhog: your Tesla cannon is of little use against him, and if he hooks you you're toast. Junkrat's traps are also serious bad news for Winston, whose mobility is his prime asset. Mei can also be dangerous, although Winston is unusual in still being able to dish out a lot of damage to Mei as she circles around him while trying to freeze him.
KingKaitain That is not really true at all. All Widowmaker has to do is drop down and then grapple away, since more likely than not Winston had to jump to get to her and it's on a cooldown. It's super easy for Widowmaker to escape. Too easy.
matthew Sedillo less then a volley ball. A volley ball can hit as hard as a furry of sword slashes and gun blasts according to final fantasy dissdiea but either way it should do more then just push you aside.
+Nick Comello Personally I'd love a hp boost to his shield. Given its short duration and long cooldown (that doesn't start until the duration is up or it's destroyed), I feel like the measly 600hp it has is kind of pathetic. Reinhardt's shield can regenerate more than that in 3 seconds, and his is mobile and indefinite so long as it's not taking damage. Even another 400hp (to make it 1000, still half of Rein's) would be nice...just to stop it buckling so quickly under concentrated fire.
It's not really supposed to. You ulti as winston for the knockback, not necessarily for the damage. If you need bodies OFF an objective then going ape is the way to go. You cause all sorts of confusion while offensive heroes mop up.
He needs one buff. He needs to be able to grab people during his ultimate and throw them around. Add a right-click punch secondary attack and a grab attack during his ultimate and Winston would be fine.
That fall reminded me of my epic fail on my first round as Reinhart. I held a point, someone came in close and I decided to charge. Turns out there wasn't a wall there and we both fell off the cliff and died. It was glorious. Still trying to learn the different heroes, but so much to take in, but having a blast. Thanks for these videos, this way I can pick up stuff even when I'm at work, not playing the game :)
Winston is such a character. He's the one champion that I noticed not very many people playing him. So I decided to try him out. And that turned out to be the most amount of fun I've had in Overwatch yet. Excellent choice of hero, bit difficult some times. But when you learn his strength's and weaknesses and play him enough, you'll be unstoppable. - personally, I use his mobility to position myself behind the enemy team and take out all the snipers and healers etc, before returning to help my team. One thing some people don't appear to have noticed: you don't need to be able to jump off the ground to use the jump pack. Among other things, this means that with some quick reactions you can save yourself if you're knocked over the side of a cliff (certain death for most other classes).
I like Winston, but he need a little buff. I'm thinking give him a shorter cooldown on his shield or a slight increase in DMG for his basic attack or melee while in rage mode.
I play Winston a good bit and have had quite a few people comment they didn't know he could rack up the kills so much because this is the way I play him as well ^^^^. Back line harasser, get in, kill the squishies, get out. I understand why his Tesla doesn't do much damage, but wish his melee would be buffed a bit. He's an ap....errr.....scientist after all. Same story as Symmetra though, you see him misused so much that your team will give you tons of grief at lower and mid levels because they have never seen him played to his full potential. great guide, love your stuff and keep up the great work!
I think winston needs a buff, I have an idea, in his shield people should get a small speed boost and also when winston projectiles should be attracted to him ( or if that doesn't work he shouldn't get a health boost but stuff just bounces off him)
i've used winston to great success, especially on assault maps, both on attack and defence. On attack, you can jump over terrain to bypass their chokepoint defences, get on the point, and split the enemy team's attention, allowing your team to sandwich and break their line of defense, immediately pushing it back to a battle for the point. On defence, winston can get to their backline easily, take out their mercy or zenyatta, and distracting and stalling the enemy. Rage mode is also extremely good for stalling, especially if you have a source of healing or nano boost
Winston is going to be one of my main heroes for competitive mode. If it's a payload map, I'll usually use my bubble on the payload to move it, but in other game modes, I play super aggressive and use the shield for diving their backline mostly. I mainly use him as a counter pick if the enemy team has a good Genji/Widow/Hanzo/Mercy.
I played Winston alot during the stress test and really liked him. I agree that he is a little more difficult to play well than it seems. I think this is because he is much more flexible than people realize. You can play on point or aggressive with him and you need to understand what the situation is calling for. Personally, I really liked playing Winston aggressively. I tended to go after any widowmakers, supports, or turrets (or anyone at low hp) the second they poped up then get back to my team. The shield is great for forcing a 1v1 when you dive deep and the short leap cd helps get out of there. I think I really started to get good when I employed a hit and run strategy. Jump in, drop shield, get kill, jump back to my team.

I love playing as Winston, he's definitely my main. His Tesla Cannon combined with the Jump Pack make him GREAT for disruption; though you shouldn't 1v1 Offense heroes unless you can stick a shield between you or they're already damaged. The Barrier Projector is a great tool to help protect your team and give you that extra boost you need to win a brawl, but it's not as good on offense when you have to make big pushes since it's stationary unlike Reinhardt's Barrier Shield. A lot of people don't understand the purpose of Winston's Ultimate. Primal Rage isn't made to rush in and do big pushes, it's for area denial and control. The health boost, and insane knockback lend themselves to pushing people off points, not racking up kills. Remember he's a Tank, not DPS.
winston is made to kill squishy people who can't heal themselves/aren't getting healed. Anyone who follows into that category can't do anything about it and will just die in frustration just to see you leap away afterwards. He's a good pick against pharah hanzo, genji, widowmaker, tracer, junk, all supports, and mcree/soldier only if you are sure they can't flash/heal. He's terrible against other tanks and reaper. roadhog reaper and dva shut him down HARD, when playing against those as winston i'd just try to jump in, kill healers, IGNORE the ones i know i can't beat, and then jump away, while the rest of the team does its thing
+RealAzK I have to disagree with some of those. He is a bad pick vs a half decent pharah...she can just knock you away and/or boost up into the air and out of reach, then pummel you with rockets from afar. Junkrat is also not the best target for Winston, since he can catch you in his trap and knock you away (or himself away) with his mine, and you're easier to land direct hits on with his grenades because you're so large. As far as supports go, Zenyatta is only easy if you catch him unawares, otherwise he can quickly shut you down with orb of discorb and his ranged attacks. Finally, I've never found D.va to be a hard counter to Winston...not the best target for him, sure, but she's not going to destroy him either. He can shoot through her Defence Matrix, and more easily kite/straft around her and shoot at the same time since his weapon doesn't need to be aimed as much and doesn't slow him down like hers does.
I play a fair emount of solo Q so I tend to pick winston a lot. Hes great at getting the team to focus down and disrupting the enemy team's backline. I think hes a great character to play, plus hes just a cool guy :D Great video, some really cool winston play.
Winston to me chain-links defense-points by fitting himself into doorways to cover his super-short-range gun. The jump works as a way of changing positions when their doorway gets shot up. Drop shields are a catch-all for when Winston needs to set a path between two flanks.
Winston is fine. Few ppls knows use this hero, but who knows makes the difference in the matches. A nice trick that I use all times is jump for enemies, use the shield for protect my self and if i see i will die, i use the jump again for run. His shift loads really fast, and this trick works most of times.
I think that a cool addition to Winston's kit would be an AOE alternate fire. This attack could be an electronic discharge fired from his Tesla Cannon. It would consume all of his magazine and would probably take 6-8 seconds to recharge.
I like the killcam too, I have seen a lot of good info because of it before. A big one is you will often catch teleporter location in it. I didn't realize spacebar flip from killcam, thanks.

I like him, and with the prevalence of widowmaker right now, he fits like a glove. I feel like the chaos caused when you jump on their backline is worth a dying for (in game) as their entire team is scrambling to protect their mercy or whoever. As long as you get that one kill, and your team can begin to secure an objective in the meantime.
Another thing i noticed is he isnt using the leap effectivly. He actualy jumps whererr you are aiming. So if you are trying to cover distance its best to aim up 45 degrees. If you are trying to get somehwere high above you aim directly up.
I think Winston is great for taking out their supports. You leap in and melt the mercy, if she flies you jump after her and if you live through it you can use your jump to escape. Same with Lucio he can speed himself up by by that time you've landed on him and melted him, drop your shield, kite and then leap away when it's off cooldown! He is great to dive their backline, take out their supports and then get out of the fight back to health.
Winston's ultimate restores your health, I usually jump to the enemy and if there is a decent amount of enemies around me I use it when I am almost dead. This strategy usually works and it is pretty deadly.
Could you create (or do you already have) a video where you just highlight some of your mistakes and talk about why they happened and how you could have avoided them? Maybe game losing mistakes or even showcase some big blunders that your team pulled through anyway, something like that.
He's like the most mobile of that class archetype if you compare him to the other tanks; like a hit and run type which is unusual for that class, but fun.
Fairly new to the game, having played a handful of heroes now, when I need to switch on to tank I prefer Winston. In my skill bracket people don't group up as much so bouncing around I'm able to pick off people pretty easily. Like you said sometimes I pick the wrong fights and just get shutdown though.
In my 6 man team we always have a winston as one of our tanks. they are the best and pushing Mercy into bad positions and is great at chasing down super squishy characters. We also run Zarya with Winston to give him that shield and allow her to get her passive up fast. Our combo on almost any map is Reinhart, Winston, and Zarya. If we get in any trouble we will switch Winston or Reinhart for another healer or damage depending on the need. But using your shield properly will allow you to take down almost any hero.
I've found great success with Winston by jumping behind the enemy lines before our push and sort of pincering the enemy team. Usually, doing this causes a lot of panic and can disrupt their defenses quite effectively.
Winston counters Widow hard. In the open beta, there were so many teams with 3-4 Widows and I would just go Winston and wreck their shit. I love that the cooldown on his jump is only 5 secs. It's like LEAP > DROP SHIELD > FIRE PRIMARY > MELEE > LEAP AWAY. I did this over and over again until everyone rage-switched to McCree. I really like the character. He synergizes extremely well with Genji because Genji is the finisher. Winston can bring people to 25% health easy just by running circles around them but isn't great at finishing them off. This is where Genji rolls in with his shurikens and his dash to finish the job. If you can get a friend to go Genji, play Winston. Seriously. It's incredible on any map in any game mode.
For a simple kit he is sort of difficult to utilize, if you are too timid with him they will make sure Winston never gets near. Best times I've used him is flexible offense/defense, its when I overextend ridiculous amounts that he gets countered. Could be a good morale character for team charges and pushing with players
I use WInston as a great way of either pushing the enemy team because of pressure almost boosting morale of team mates; attacking that is. When defending I like to use Winston as a fodder because of his health the attacking team will focus on him and especially in joke points I'll drop a shield so it wastes 10 seconds for them and I might be able to kill one or two of them. Just trying to give people an idea of how to use him in specific scenarios.
Winston is (obviously) built for disruption and kills against squishy characters. Don't play him while trying to get 15+ eliminations every game. You'll probably get wrecked because he's geared to be a harasser. I usually use him if there's an enemy Tracer.
To be a really powerful Winston you need a really good healer setup. Best way to have much impact is to get healed from an Ana from long range and have a Mercy who heals you time to time and maybe boosts you too, then run in the frontline and do as much damage as you can. If you get low health you jump in the air, Ana can get you there and Mercy can fly to you and heal you up. Best Characters to Attack with Winston : - Genji, Tracer and Sombra - Torbjörn, Mei and Hanzo - Reinhardt and D.Va - Mercy, Ana and Lucio
In my experience Winston really struggles against most heroes in direct, one on one fights, but he can be incredibly useful in teamfights (mostly by distracting enemies from the heroes that are actually dealing damage). I rarely shoot for kills with Winston and just try to jump in, put down shield, deal as much damage as I can, and jump back out when the shield goes down. The only time I press for kills is if I'm targeting a support. Winston is brilliant at jumping over the aggressive heroes' heads and chasing down Mercy for an easy kill, and usually managing to jump back over their heads to safety (I've noticed a lot of players don't seem to deal as much damage when you're fighting an ally of theirs rather than facing them directly).
I played Winston a lot when I first started playing Overwatch and found his bubble really good for escort/payload matches, especially with Mercy healing me so I could stay on the payload and the rest of the team running interference. If Mercy dies or the rest of the team gets overwhelmed you can leap off the payload into the other team - pop ultimate if you have it ready - and break them up. It's not a very complicated strategy but it requires everyone to operate as a team, which is hard in pick-up games.
+Josh Young For me it seems to weak, I mean I'm not asking for it to be as strong as Reinhart's shield, but if it could be like even 200 it would be so much better. At least the only way I ever see it used is when Winston is either surrounded or protecting a payload, both cases you have 2-6 characters attacking you, 100 is nothing, plus you can walk through it and ignore it..
nahte123456 Hmmm yeah I get what you mean. Another thing they could do is if you could use right-click to restore it. So you can't shoot and use it at the same time but if you're protecting a payload you can sit there and keep the shield up.
I like winston and my friend plays him a lot which made me want to learn him. I agree with how you play, the problem is this playstyle doesn't always work. Maybe I shouldn't have played him, but I was on anubis and no one would play a tank so I tried winston, but there was no way for me to isolate squishies on capture point 1. Normally you want to find 1 or 2 of them too far away and jump in and stay on them, but on that capture point the whole team was grouped up really tight, and it made it near impossible to do anything.
I'm terrible as Winston. I feel like a big issue, as shown in this video, is you'll often get focused down since you're such a big target and can be intimidating though everyone knows you're generally on the weaker side.
Winston is super fun to play but the degree to which you have to pre-plan your movements, to me, indicates that he needs a slight damage buff. a moderate buff to any one of his forms of damage or a slight increase to all of them would probably suffice
I was really surprised at how much I loved playing Winston. I remember in the open beta I got backfilled into a match, and realised the team I was on weren't very good at killing. So I chose to play Winston, and I disrupted the enemy team so much we actually won the match, despite being in a bad position when I joined. After we won, I even got a few compliments from both my team and the enemy team as being the person that turned the match into a win. Since that point, I started playing him a lot more. He is an utter bastard if you play him properly, it is ridiculous fun killing Genjis, Mercys and Tracers with impunity, and if you get into trouble, jump away, heal up, and go back at them.
Nice Video, he barely gets used on the Xbox version so have been trying to play as him as am sure they put him in the game for a reason, plus who doesn't want to play as a massive ape. He should really have had better climbing/scaling abilities though.
Something worth noting: when Winston is ulting, his jetpack has a cooldown so low you can basically just keep using it, and effectively fly. Jump into the pit? No big: you can literally just JUMP BACK OUT.
His ultimate is also good if you can get the enemy on a ledge to send them flying. Which the made his shield a bit stronger since it is possible to walk in to it as an enemy.
I personally play him hyperaggressively. As in, you know, borderline suicidal. Lunge into a mob, drop the shield, and they have to get inside your shield in order to deal with you (which is where you're the strongest). Added bonus if you're 1v1ing and they try to shoot you as they're walking backwards out of the bubble. In the video it constantly looked to me like you were dropping your shield at the wrong times and they were never as effective as they could have been.
I see winston as a powerful disruptive backline tank. Meaning he jumps into your backline and screws them up horribly. Hes amazing at killing snipers and people like junkrat who have no sustain. i think hes my favorite right now.
Consider your E a temporary wall that you can shoot through but your enemies can't. Winston can 1v1 ALMOST everyone. Also, I often look nearly straight up with my LSHIFT then surprise land near enemies. It'll do some damage but more importantly knock them back. Knocked quite a few people in the pit with his shift. His ult is great for that as well. Although generally I use his ult to go from next to no health to 1000 health immediately.
I like Winston. I think he is quickly turning into my main. I usually shoot over obstacles at the start of a match to get somewhere first and then get behind enemy lines to start causing havoc. My point isn't really to kill anyone (though it helps.) But rather to just engage them and stall them from their main objective.
Yep, that's his main role. If you have stupid teammates, though, you'll get hung out to dry with Winston (more than with most other classes). Winston is very much a team player and facilitator rather than a solo hero.
I've been practicing winston quite a bit in quick lately and winning 75% of my games. People panic and don't know how to deal with him most of the time. I see a lot of genjis trying to deflect the tesla gun, just as they try to do with mei's frost blast and symmetra's gun. Fine by me, if they're deflecting they aren't attacking and they die faster.
One thing I would add to the tips is that yes Winston does low damage but he is a counter pick for any team with shields. His weapon is energy based and ignores them.
people dont seem to think about it but when you use your shield in 1v1 you should always go in and out of the bubble as the ennemy does the same that way you always damage them and they dont damage you
Winston is my favourite tank. High mobility , lots of health , can shield yourself and teammates , decent area affected damage , and i can push back and attract the entire enemy team with the ultimate while my team have progression with the objective.
Winston is the best squishy killer in the game, his chain gun is auto target and nullifies abilities like genji's deflects and tracer blinks and shields. It's also AOE and does crazy amounts of dmg when added up. What you want to do as winston when not defending a point is to jump straight into enemy back lines plop down your shield and just keep chasing those squishies. He can go face to face with people who are good at close to medium range by using his shield to block most of their attacks and just standing in there spamming his arc gun. When defending a point use your shield to help allies block enemy fire and focus on mowing down any close range dmg dealers that try to assasinate your squishies if not then jump straight to the backline and do the exact same thing killing their squishies. Plus when you get your ultimate just go HAM and completely ruin your enemies' day do whatever you can to destroy them: knocking them off cliffs, knocking them away from the objective or just straight up kill them. He is really simple to play and in my opinion is one of the strongest tanky disruptors in the game right now. And I haven't even mentioned his insane mobility with his jump jet: see that pharah hanzo or widowmaker camping on the roof? Jump jet and destroy them. Plus it's on a low cooldown as well.
I play Winston sometimes, but find him more situational than the other heros. His jump distance and gauging where he will land takes some getting used to.
Winston is one of the best heroes for pushing the payload. stand on it and throw down your shield and everyone can form up and blast away. However, his weapon blows so bad. if he had a little bit better weapon he would be amazing.
I've had multiple kills with his weapon, I find it fair. I love playing as Winston, the only problem is when I'm on the point as him, nobody wants to go on the point with me, even with the shield down, like come on! This is on Xbox One just so you know.
Winston is definitely one of my favorite characters to play in this game. I do think there's a very high skill cap that I'm not even remotely close to approaching yet. I find his ultimate to be extraordinarily difficult to use effectively. If I'm lucky, I'll get one kill out of using it before I die. Otherwise, I just get kited around and dogged because I'm slow and my range is poor. The leap is a useful tool there, but it's very tricky to utilize and I often overshoot and just waste time.
+kellogsbeast He's my most played tank actually. I think his strength is actually in the absolute chaos he can cause. If you play against him, you see a huge monkey jumping all over the place throwing lightning all over the place, sure he is not that dangerous in terms of damage but he sure draws a lot of attention and is annoying as shit (taking that lightning damage really messes up your screen), which is the point of tanks, yeah? You have to play him extremely aggresive, jump in, drop shield, cause some damage, jump out, repeat. Just buying time for your team, much like tracer. He's also really good a picking off snipers and lone supports, I eat widows and hanzos for breakfast, you can jump anywhere that they are. When you activate ulti, dont try to tunnelvision somebody, the damage is rather poor, instead just attack nearest thing moving, thrash them around, disrupt their play. Biggest counter to Winston is whatever with shotgun, being big target really hurts there.
Winston was my last character I tried because I never thought I would like him, but I play super well with him. Had my best game so far with 33 eliminations with him :)

Winston is my main tank. since I do like how I can separate from the group and get in a few solo kills before joining back up. However, I do wish his shield would last just a tad bit longer, since it feels like it has such a long cool down.
I use winston to take out the back line. Snipers and healers are my main targets. I use his ult mainly to knock enemies out of spaces or a tough to kill opponent. When using ult I try to knock ppl into corners because you can juggle them against the walls till they die lol. Also if you are trying to kill a Pharrah and she flys in the air...jump up to her. She cant fly up high enough to get away
I think they need to buff Winston's normal melee attack significantly. I mean, he's a huge gorilla and you're telling me he hits as hard as Tracer? It would give him a nice boost and play into the fact that he is what he is.

From a thematic point of view I always thought it was weird that Winston, a freaking massive gorilla, had to ult to knock people around. But considering how low his damage is currently I think that even from a game design perspective a minor damage+cc buff on his melee would make sense; after all he is classified as a "tank/disruptor".
NerdExtrodinare Balance does not mean a complete amalgamation of all heroes. Make the spread 25-50 damage, with Tracer/Symetra being on the low end and Winston being on the top end or something like that.
I think it would be cool if Winston had a secondary long range fire on his tesla canon with medium cool down. Sort of like quick beam of electricity.

Also note that Winston's jump has a minimum arc. So if you look straight up and jump, you'll jump straight up. However, if you look straight down, you'll still jump forward as if you were looking straight ahead. Remember the jump also does do 50 damage in a small AOE when you land, so you can use that to your advantage when fighting slow, squishy supports.

That bit at 5:23 where you are fighting McRee I recommend using your leap ability to go straight up into the air. The leap is very easy to control (and I'm pretty sure it's1 second faster cooldown since you made this video) so you avoid some of his shots and land right on McRee's head.
Another crucial part of Winston's kit could have saved you there: Using the ultimate instantly heals you up to 1,000 hp.
Winston's shield can be placed onto the payload to move with it and it will counter moves like McRee's High Noon and Roadhog's Hook but will not stop HAnzo's ult, Symmetra's, Mei's or Winston's attacks etc.
Sadly, melee attacks do LESS damage during Primal Rage. Hopefully they change that.
IMO Winston is the most challenging and one of the most rewarding characters to master.

I love Winston, I play him almost like an assassin, disrupt the backline and then jump out, making use of jumping vertically often for the damage and knockback on his jump but also the confusion of "where did the monkey go?"
Also, placing down the shield then walking at an angle so that you're outside the circle and they have to walk through two walls of the shield seems to bee a good strat.
Also, keep your gun reloaded as Winston... never wanna go in with 30ammo out of 100 :<
I have about an hour on most characters, on winston I'm getting up to about 8 or 9 over the passed 2 days.

armor and shields are just hp -50% damage up to a cap of minimum damage, so against someone with small rapid fire, it's almost the same, against someone with large burst shots it's noticeable how much more you have vs other tanks.
Technically all their hp is the same but behaves differently.
Only hp that is more hp is that which is the base hp VS true damage, for instance Widow full charge shot.
Sounds like how I play him. It took me a while to get the hang of Winston, but been having a lot of success (and fun!) last couple days. I use jump A LOT, like, aggressively:). I, too, love nice vertical jumps and then zeroing in on my target(s) on the way down. Of course, you gotta look out for certain opponents that are good at shooting people out of the air. I do a lot of things with Winston, but i think it can be more or less summed up with: Jump in, Kill healer, jump out. Drop shield if you need to soak dps why you are running after mercy w/ your back toward enemy fire. When not attacking, I often hang around team/point/payload until I see a vulnerable healer or sniper to spring on. The best is a sniper that shoots at you, thereby giving up her or his location. An instant later, they have you flying at their face with 400hp still remaining. :) I don't 100% play it exactly this way, but seems to be the majority of my focus. I kinda like when there is a 2nd tank, because my frequent movement could potentially leave a healer at risk. I do always try not to leave them completely vulnerable or i will be sure to quickly return after a quick smash and jump.
I def try to play winston on the edge. Just be a constant pest and disruption. It really takes focus fire to get you down in the 6 seconds you have before you can jump away to safety. Don't sell out on kills. Prioritize living and jump attacking again soon. Which reminds me of a tip. If you don't know where you are going to escape to before you jump into the fray, look around for it while you are attacking during those 6 seconds. It is easy to do, because your weapon requires virtually no aim, allowing you to look around your environment during skirmish.
I've been playing a lot of Winston as I try to change up my normally used heroes and I'm finding him to be a ton of fun. In my opinion he is quite versatile and pretty good at a number of different things, he just isn't fantastic at any one thing in particular. It is really satisfying to be able to leap up to some perch that a Hanzo, Pharrah, or Widowmaker is using to snipe from and just obliterating them. Winston is also ideal for singling out healers, wherever they may be. Since healers normally play the back, Winston can just jump over the entire line of scrimmage and land right on healers' heads and take them out before anyone knows what is going on. Now, he'll probably die in the process, but being able to take out one or two of the enemy and breaking their line is probably worth it.

He is great fun to play, albeit with some critical weaknesses that you have to work around. The biggest problem with Winston is that he doesn't get credit for what he does: he's a disruptor, so he's great as part of a competent team but typically works to create confusion and mayhem in the opposition team allowing your teammates to take objectives and (often) finish off the opponents you've weakened.
I've had dozens of games in which I was instrumental in achieving all the objectives but wasn't even listed in the vote list at the end of the game because Winston's stats don't reflect his contribution. Instead you'll just see the same old Bastions and Junkrats getting POTG and high stats for doing pretty brainless stuff.
Winston's biggest nemesis is Roadhog: your Tesla cannon is of little use against him, and if he hooks you you're toast. Junkrat's traps are also serious bad news for Winston, whose mobility is his prime asset. Mei can also be dangerous, although Winston is unusual in still being able to dish out a lot of damage to Mei as she circles around him while trying to freeze him.
Widowmaker is absolutely owned by Winston. I consider it an embarrassment if I'm ever taken down by a Widow while playing as Winston.
KingKaitain That is not really true at all. All Widowmaker has to do is drop down and then grapple away, since more likely than not Winston had to jump to get to her and it's on a cooldown.
It's super easy for Widowmaker to escape. Too easy.

Given its short duration and long cooldown (that doesn't start until the duration is up or it's destroyed), I feel like the measly 600hp it has is kind of pathetic. Reinhardt's shield can regenerate more than that in 3 seconds, and his is mobile and indefinite so long as it's not taking damage. Even another 400hp (to make it 1000, still half of Rein's) would be nice...just to stop it buckling so quickly under concentrated fire.

You ulti as winston for the knockback, not necessarily for the damage. If you need bodies OFF an objective then going ape is the way to go.

He needs one buff. He needs to be able to grab people during his ultimate and throw them around. Add a right-click punch secondary attack and a grab attack during his ultimate and Winston would be fine.

That fall reminded me of my epic fail on my first round as Reinhart. I held a point, someone came in close and I decided to charge.
Turns out there wasn't a wall there and we both fell off the cliff and died. It was glorious.

Winston is such a character. He's the one champion that I noticed not very many people playing him. So I decided to try him out. And that turned out to be the most amount of fun I've had in Overwatch yet. Excellent choice of hero, bit difficult some times. But when you learn his strength's and weaknesses and play him enough, you'll be unstoppable. - personally, I use his mobility to position myself behind the enemy team and take out all the snipers and healers etc, before returning to help my team.

One thing some people don't appear to have noticed: you don't need to be able to jump off the ground to use the jump pack. Among other things, this means that with some quick reactions you can save yourself if you're knocked over the side of a cliff (certain death for most other classes).
I was honestly surprised by how well you did with Winston, I've never seen him used effectively before, and he always gets shut down.Major props.

I like Winston, but he need a little buff. I'm thinking give him a shorter cooldown on his shield or a slight increase in DMG for his basic attack or melee while in rage mode.
I play Winston a good bit and have had quite a few people comment they didn't know he could rack up the kills so much because this is the way I play him as well ^^^^. Back line harasser, get in, kill the squishies, get out. I understand why his Tesla doesn't do much damage, but wish his melee would be buffed a bit. He's an ap....errr.....scientist after all. Same story as Symmetra though, you see him misused so much that your team will give you tons of grief at lower and mid levels because they have never seen him played to his full potential.

I think winston needs a buff, I have an idea, in his shield people should get a small speed boost and also when winston projectiles should be attracted to him ( or if that doesn't work he shouldn't get a health boost but stuff just bounces off him)

i've used winston to great success, especially on assault maps, both on attack and defence. On attack, you can jump over terrain to bypass their chokepoint defences, get on the point, and split the enemy team's attention, allowing your team to sandwich and break their line of defense, immediately pushing it back to a battle for the point. On defence, winston can get to their backline easily, take out their mercy or zenyatta, and distracting and stalling the enemy. Rage mode is also extremely good for stalling, especially if you have a source of healing or nano boost

Winston is going to be one of my main heroes for competitive mode. If it's a payload map, I'll usually use my bubble on the payload to move it, but in other game modes, I play super aggressive and use the shield for diving their backline mostly. I mainly use him as a counter pick if the enemy team has a good Genji/Widow/Hanzo/Mercy.
I played Winston alot during the stress test and really liked him. I agree that he is a little more difficult to play well than it seems. I think this is because he is much more flexible than people realize. You can play on point or aggressive with him and you need to understand what the situation is calling for.
Personally, I really liked playing Winston aggressively. I tended to go after any widowmakers, supports, or turrets (or anyone at low hp) the second they poped up then get back to my team. The shield is great for forcing a 1v1 when you dive deep and the short leap cd helps get out of there. I think I really started to get good when I employed a hit and run strategy. Jump in, drop shield, get kill, jump back to my team.

I love playing as Winston, he's definitely my main.
His Tesla Cannon combined with the Jump Pack make him GREAT for disruption; though you shouldn't 1v1 Offense heroes unless you can stick a shield between you or they're already damaged. The Barrier Projector is a great tool to help protect your team and give you that extra boost you need to win a brawl, but it's not as good on offense when you have to make big pushes since it's stationary unlike Reinhardt's Barrier Shield. A lot of people don't understand the purpose of Winston's Ultimate. Primal Rage isn't made to rush in and do big pushes, it's for area denial and control. The health boost, and insane knockback lend themselves to pushing people off points, not racking up kills. Remember he's a Tank, not DPS.
winston is made to kill squishy people who can't heal themselves/aren't getting healed. Anyone who follows into that category can't do anything about it and will just die in frustration just to see you leap away afterwards. He's a good pick against pharah hanzo, genji, widowmaker, tracer, junk, all supports, and mcree/soldier only if you are sure they can't flash/heal. He's terrible against other tanks and reaper. roadhog reaper and dva shut him down HARD, when playing against those as winston i'd just try to jump in, kill healers, IGNORE the ones i know i can't beat, and then jump away, while the rest of the team does its thing

+RealAzK I have to disagree with some of those. He is a bad pick vs a half decent pharah...she can just knock you away and/or boost up into the air and out of reach, then pummel you with rockets from afar. Junkrat is also not the best target for Winston, since he can catch you in his trap and knock you away (or himself away) with his mine, and you're easier to land direct hits on with his grenades because you're so large. As far as supports go, Zenyatta is only easy if you catch him unawares, otherwise he can quickly shut you down with orb of discorb and his ranged attacks. Finally, I've never found D.va to be a hard counter to Winston...not the best target for him, sure, but she's not going to destroy him either. He can shoot through her Defence Matrix, and more easily kite/straft around her and shoot at the same time since his weapon doesn't need to be aimed as much and doesn't slow him down like hers does.
I play a fair emount of solo Q so I tend to pick winston a lot. Hes great at getting the team to focus down and disrupting the enemy team's backline. I think hes a great character to play, plus hes just a cool guy :D

Winston to me chain-links defense-points by fitting himself into doorways to cover his super-short-range gun.
The jump works as a way of changing positions when their doorway gets shot up. Drop shields are a catch-all for when Winston needs to set a path between two flanks.

Winston is fine. Few ppls knows use this hero, but who knows makes the difference in the matches.
A nice trick that I use all times is jump for enemies, use the shield for protect my self and if i see i will die, i use the jump again for run. His shift loads really fast, and this trick works most of times.
I think that a cool addition to Winston's kit would be an AOE alternate fire. This attack could be an electronic discharge fired from his Tesla Cannon. It would consume all of his magazine and would probably take 6-8 seconds to recharge.
Winston is one of my favorite characters! When played correctly, he can be a HUGE game changer.
I absolutely LOVE Winston. He's perfect for when there's an enemy Reinhardt, since you can shoot right through his shield.
I like the killcam too, I have seen a lot of good info because of it before. A big one is you will often catch teleporter location in it.

I like him, and with the prevalence of widowmaker right now, he fits like a glove.
I feel like the chaos caused when you jump on their backline is worth a dying for (in game) as their entire team is scrambling to protect their mercy or whoever. As long as you get that one kill, and your team can begin to secure an objective in the meantime.
Another thing i noticed is he isnt using the leap effectivly. He actualy jumps whererr you are aiming. So if you are trying to cover distance its best to aim up 45 degrees. If you are trying to get somehwere high above you aim directly up.
I think Winston is great for taking out their supports. You leap in and melt the mercy, if she flies you jump after her and if you live through it you can use your jump to escape. Same with Lucio he can speed himself up by by that time you've landed on him and melted him, drop your shield, kite and then leap away when it's off cooldown! He is great to dive their backline, take out their supports and then get out of the fight back to health.
I think a nice buff to Winston would be a small melee damage increase, and maybe a small portion of his effective health becoming shield. Maybe 100
Winston's ultimate restores your health, I usually jump to the enemy and if there is a decent amount of enemies around me I use it when I am almost dead. This strategy usually works and it is pretty deadly.
Could you create (or do you already have) a video where you just highlight some of your mistakes and talk about why they happened and how you could have avoided them? Maybe game losing mistakes or even showcase some big blunders that your team pulled through anyway, something like that.
Love it. Winston does a great line in chilling, chilling, SMASH, SMASH, chilling.
Winston is definitely my favourite hero and I agree with almost all of what this chap says about him
He's like the most mobile of that class archetype if you compare him to the other tanks; like a hit and run type which is unusual for that class, but fun.
Fairly new to the game, having played a handful of heroes now, when I need to switch on to tank I prefer Winston. In my skill bracket people don't group up as much so bouncing around I'm able to pick off people pretty easily. Like you said sometimes I pick the wrong fights and just get shutdown though.
In my 6 man team we always have a winston as one of our tanks. they are the best and pushing Mercy into bad positions and is great at chasing down super squishy characters. We also run Zarya with Winston to give him that shield and allow her to get her passive up fast.
Our combo on almost any map is Reinhart, Winston, and Zarya. If we get in any trouble we will switch Winston or Reinhart for another healer or damage depending on the need.
But using your shield properly will allow you to take down almost any hero.
I've found great success with Winston by jumping behind the enemy lines before our push and sort of pincering the enemy team. Usually, doing this causes a lot of panic and can disrupt their defenses quite effectively.
Winston counters Widow hard. In the open beta, there were so many teams with 3-4 Widows and I would just go Winston and wreck their shit. I love that the cooldown on his jump is only 5 secs. It's like LEAP > DROP SHIELD > FIRE PRIMARY > MELEE > LEAP AWAY. I did this over and over again until everyone rage-switched to McCree.
I really like the character. He synergizes extremely well with Genji because Genji is the finisher. Winston can bring people to 25% health easy just by running circles around them but isn't great at finishing them off. This is where Genji rolls in with his shurikens and his dash to finish the job. If you can get a friend to go Genji, play Winston. Seriously. It's incredible on any map in any game mode.

For a simple kit he is sort of difficult to utilize, if you are too timid with him they will make sure Winston never gets near. Best times I've used him is flexible offense/defense, its when I overextend ridiculous amounts that he gets countered. Could be a good morale character for team charges and pushing with players
I use WInston as a great way of either pushing the enemy team because of pressure almost boosting morale of team mates; attacking that is. When defending I like to use Winston as a fodder because of his health the attacking team will focus on him and especially in joke points I'll drop a shield so it wastes 10 seconds for them and I might be able to kill one or two of them.
Just trying to give people an idea of how to use him in specific scenarios.
Choke points*
Winston is (obviously) built for disruption and kills against squishy characters. Don't play him while trying to get 15+ eliminations every game. You'll probably get wrecked because he's geared to be a harasser.
I usually use him if there's an enemy Tracer.
To be a really powerful Winston you need a really good healer setup. Best way to have much impact is to get healed from an Ana from long range and have a Mercy who heals you time to time and maybe boosts you too, then run in the frontline and do as much damage as you can. If you get low health you jump in the air, Ana can get you there and Mercy can fly to you and heal you up. Best Characters to Attack with Winston :
- Genji, Tracer and Sombra
- Torbjörn, Mei and Hanzo
- Reinhardt and D.Va
- Mercy, Ana and Lucio

In my experience Winston really struggles against most heroes in direct, one on one fights, but he can be incredibly useful in teamfights (mostly by distracting enemies from the heroes that are actually dealing damage). I rarely shoot for kills with Winston and just try to jump in, put down shield, deal as much damage as I can, and jump back out when the shield goes down. The only time I press for kills is if I'm targeting a support. Winston is brilliant at jumping over the aggressive heroes' heads and chasing down Mercy for an easy kill, and usually managing to jump back over their heads to safety (I've noticed a lot of players don't seem to deal as much damage when you're fighting an ally of theirs rather than facing them directly).

I played Winston a lot when I first started playing Overwatch and found his bubble really good for escort/payload matches, especially with Mercy healing me so I could stay on the payload and the rest of the team running interference. If Mercy dies or the rest of the team gets overwhelmed you can leap off the payload into the other team - pop ultimate if you have it ready - and break them up. It's not a very complicated strategy but it requires everyone to operate as a team, which is hard in pick-up games.
+Josh Young For me it seems to weak, I mean I'm not asking for it to be as strong as Reinhart's shield, but if it could be like even 200 it would be so much better. At least the only way I ever see it used is when Winston is either surrounded or protecting a payload, both cases you have 2-6 characters attacking you, 100 is nothing, plus you can walk through it and ignore it..
nahte123456 Hmmm yeah I get what you mean. Another thing they could do is if you could use right-click to restore it. So you can't shoot and use it at the same time but if you're protecting a payload you can sit there and keep the shield up.
I like winston and my friend plays him a lot which made me want to learn him. I agree with how you play, the problem is this playstyle doesn't always work. Maybe I shouldn't have played him, but I was on anubis and no one would play a tank so I tried winston, but there was no way for me to isolate squishies on capture point 1. Normally you want to find 1 or 2 of them too far away and jump in and stay on them, but on that capture point the whole team was grouped up really tight, and it made it near impossible to do anything.
I'm terrible as Winston. I feel like a big issue, as shown in this video, is you'll often get focused down since you're such a big target and can be intimidating though everyone knows you're generally on the weaker side.

But you can use that as an advantage to jump into the fray (literally, pun intended) and then shock everybody with your gun.
Winston is super fun to play but the degree to which you have to pre-plan your movements, to me, indicates that he needs a slight damage buff. a moderate buff to any one of his forms of damage or a slight increase to all of them would probably suffice
I was really surprised at how much I loved playing Winston. I remember in the open beta I got backfilled into a match, and realised the team I was on weren't very good at killing. So I chose to play Winston, and I disrupted the enemy team so much we actually won the match, despite being in a bad position when I joined. After we won, I even got a few compliments from both my team and the enemy team as being the person that turned the match into a win. Since that point, I started playing him a lot more. He is an utter bastard if you play him properly, it is ridiculous fun killing Genjis, Mercys and Tracers with impunity, and if you get into trouble, jump away, heal up, and go back at them.
Nice Video, he barely gets used on the Xbox version so have been trying to play as him as am sure they put him in the game for a reason, plus who doesn't want to play as a massive ape. He should really have had better climbing/scaling abilities though.
Something worth noting: when Winston is ulting, his jetpack has a cooldown so low you can basically just keep using it, and effectively fly. Jump into the pit? No big: you can literally just JUMP BACK OUT.
His ultimate is also good if you can get the enemy on a ledge to send them flying. Which the made his shield a bit stronger since it is possible to walk in to it as an enemy.
I personally play him hyperaggressively. As in, you know, borderline suicidal. Lunge into a mob, drop the shield, and they have to get inside your shield in order to deal with you (which is where you're the strongest). Added bonus if you're 1v1ing and they try to shoot you as they're walking backwards out of the bubble. In the video it constantly looked to me like you were dropping your shield at the wrong times and they were never as effective as they could have been.
I see winston as a powerful disruptive backline tank. Meaning he jumps into your backline and screws them up horribly. Hes amazing at killing snipers and people like junkrat who have no sustain. i think hes my favorite right now.
Consider your E a temporary wall that you can shoot through but your enemies can't. Winston can 1v1 ALMOST everyone. Also, I often look nearly straight up with my LSHIFT then surprise land near enemies. It'll do some damage but more importantly knock them back. Knocked quite a few people in the pit with his shift. His ult is great for that as well. Although generally I use his ult to go from next to no health to 1000 health immediately.
I like Winston. I think he is quickly turning into my main. I usually shoot over obstacles at the start of a match to get somewhere first and then get behind enemy lines to start causing havoc. My point isn't really to kill anyone (though it helps.) But rather to just engage them and stall them from their main objective.
Yep, that's his main role. If you have stupid teammates, though, you'll get hung out to dry with Winston (more than with most other classes). Winston is very much a team player and facilitator rather than a solo hero.
I've been practicing winston quite a bit in quick lately and winning 75% of my games. People panic and don't know how to deal with him most of the time. I see a lot of genjis trying to deflect the tesla gun, just as they try to do with mei's frost blast and symmetra's gun. Fine by me, if they're deflecting they aren't attacking and they die faster.

One thing I would add to the tips is that yes Winston does low damage but he is a counter pick for any team with shields. His weapon is energy based and ignores them.
people dont seem to think about it but when you use your shield in 1v1 you should always go in and out of the bubble as the ennemy does the same that way you always damage them and they dont damage you

Winston is my favourite tank. High mobility , lots of health , can shield yourself and teammates , decent area affected damage , and i can push back and attract the entire enemy team with the ultimate while my team have progression with the objective.
Winston is the best squishy killer in the game, his chain gun is auto target and nullifies abilities like genji's deflects and tracer blinks and shields. It's also AOE and does crazy amounts of dmg when added up. What you want to do as winston when not defending a point is to jump straight into enemy back lines plop down your shield and just keep chasing those squishies. He can go face to face with people who are good at close to medium range by using his shield to block most of their attacks and just standing in there spamming his arc gun. When defending a point use your shield to help allies block enemy fire and focus on mowing down any close range dmg dealers that try to assasinate your squishies if not then jump straight to the backline and do the exact same thing killing their squishies. Plus when you get your ultimate just go HAM and completely ruin your enemies' day do whatever you can to destroy them: knocking them off cliffs, knocking them away from the objective or just straight up kill them. He is really simple to play and in my opinion is one of the strongest tanky disruptors in the game right now. And I haven't even mentioned his insane mobility with his jump jet: see that pharah hanzo or widowmaker camping on the roof? Jump jet and destroy them. Plus it's on a low cooldown as well.
I play Winston sometimes, but find him more situational than the other heros. His jump distance and gauging where he will land takes some getting used to.
Winston is great. I use him to break entrenched enemies. Get behind, kill supports or snipers.

Winston is one of the best heroes for pushing the payload. stand on it and throw down your shield and everyone can form up and blast away. However, his weapon blows so bad. if he had a little bit better weapon he would be amazing.
I've had multiple kills with his weapon, I find it fair. I love playing as Winston, the only problem is when I'm on the point as him, nobody wants to go on the point with me, even with the shield down, like come on! This is on Xbox One just so you know.

Winston is definitely one of my favorite characters to play in this game. I do think there's a very high skill cap that I'm not even remotely close to approaching yet. I find his ultimate to be extraordinarily difficult to use effectively. If I'm lucky, I'll get one kill out of using it before I die. Otherwise, I just get kited around and dogged because I'm slow and my range is poor. The leap is a useful tool there, but it's very tricky to utilize and I often overshoot and just waste time.
+kellogsbeast He's my most played tank actually. I think his strength is actually in the absolute chaos he can cause. If you play against him, you see a huge monkey jumping all over the place throwing lightning all over the place, sure he is not that dangerous in terms of damage but he sure draws a lot of attention and is annoying as shit (taking that lightning damage really messes up your screen), which is the point of tanks, yeah? You have to play him extremely aggresive, jump in, drop shield, cause some damage, jump out, repeat. Just buying time for your team, much like tracer. He's also really good a picking off snipers and lone supports, I eat widows and hanzos for breakfast, you can jump anywhere that they are. When you activate ulti, dont try to tunnelvision somebody, the damage is rather poor, instead just attack nearest thing moving, thrash them around, disrupt their play. Biggest counter to Winston is whatever with shotgun, being big target really hurts there.
Winston was my last character I tried because I never thought I would like him, but I play super well with him. Had my best game so far with 33 eliminations with him :)
started today on the beta took about 4 hours slowly figuring him out. hes good i hope the lags dont affect his hit meter seems delayed.

Winston is my main tank. since I do like how I can separate from the group and get in a few solo kills before joining back up. However, I do wish his shield would last just a tad bit longer, since it feels like it has such a long cool down.
I use winston to take out the back line. Snipers and healers are my main targets. I use his ult mainly to knock enemies out of spaces or a tough to kill opponent. When using ult I try to knock ppl into corners because you can juggle them against the walls till they die lol. Also if you are trying to kill a Pharrah and she flys in the air...jump up to her. She cant fly up high enough to get away
