    I'm on LT265/60R/20's (32.5") on a 2012 L322 Range Rover Supercharged with the big Brembo brakes that limits me to 20" diameter wheels. I'm running a 2.5" bag spacer lift kit. I really like the tall skinny tire for off road work better that the super wide 13.5" units. Nitto and Toyo offer tires in an equivalent 33/11.50R/18, 34/11.50R/18 and 35/11.50R/18 tire. The skinnier section width will make fitting the tire on any of the Land Rover platforms so much easier. You should do a test between the wide and narrow carcass and let us know what you think. Truck looks great, keep up the good work!

    looks good but if your in a heavy front end crash the engines joining you in the cab with that frame chop

    • @fj_matt
      @fj_matt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Look, I don’t mean to argue, but that frame part has literally zero impact on where the engine is mounted, or the firewall. It would take one of the most incredible crashes in the world for the engine to tear off its mounts, go over the frame rail, drop in the wheel well and then come towards the cab. And even if it did, there’s still the fully intact firewall and the body mount that sits at the firewall.
      Land Rover owners aren’t used to these modifications, although they’re starting to happen more and more, but this and firewall tubs have been extremely common in the toyota world. And funny enough, in the jeep world, they don’t even exist, because you just have a firewall there, no big body mount sticking out.

      I should have worded it 35s on 2.5” suspension lift. Haha. But I agree, 35s are the max I would do on this powertrain even if 37s fit better.

      @andrewmcgaha9629 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fj_matt I really hope more people fit 35’s, and more importantly, keep hammering the gear companies to make a lower gear set. I’ve contacted everyone I can find here and abroad and everyone feels like there just isn’t enough demand. I can’t even get an audience to discuss a customs set - regardless of price. The 4.4 just doesn’t have the @$$ to turn 35’s on rocks. I’ve found somewhere around 2’ there just isn’t enough torque. Mine tires aren’t quite as big as yours (Nitto Mud Grapp 35/12.5/18) but fit them early 2017. I think if I did it again, I’d probably put a metric 34x11.5, to see if that didn’t have a little more oomph.

  • @donhappel9566
    @donhappel9566 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A few comments- First, I'm glad you posted this as so few people mod the 3. However, there are some things that should be addressed. As shown, you WILL rub quite a bit when articulating heavily. Likely it will self-eject a rear wheel flare. Also, you definetely should mention that you have a LOT of offset on those wheels to get a tire that wide to clear the front UCAs at the balljoint. I should also point out that that's a very mild tire with no significant side-lugs. You also didn't mention moving the driver's front wire loom at the frame - a critical step as an aggressive tire will snag this and rip it out which takes out the height sensor and ABS making the truck drop to the bumpstops. It's an easy thing but not mentioned. Next, you still have a stock front bumper which helps with clearance but many people are running aftermarket winch bumpers. The ARB in particular is popular but causes more problems that will require cutting (I'm not a fan of the ARB for that and other reasons). You also have no sliders installed which will require more mods. The only sliders I've yet found that are worth buying for this truck are the the Tactial Rovers part. All the others I've seen have failed in the rocks and sliders are the first and most important mod needed on the 3 / 4 platform due to the very limited rocker clearance. It does look good, but clearly this isn't a truck built for trail use; it's not exactly going to see the Rubicon now, is it? I expect this will be a street or dirt road rig for which it may be fine but as shown if you try to use it on any sort of moderate trail it's going to suffer a lot. Lastly, you didn't address gearing. As far as I know there's not been any aftermarket solution to this yet and it's one of the biggest issues. Even with smaller 32" tires it struggles in the rocks. With 35s, even mild ones like this, it will suffer on pavement with maintaining 6th gear on any sort of grade and will really suffer in the rocks. The gearing just isn't there. The later 8-speed LR4 might offer some options here depending on what ratio is offered stock in the axles.

    • @donhappel9566
      @donhappel9566 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Freedomtooffroad I love the LR3 but let's be honest - it will never be a rock crawler. It's simply too heavy and lacks articulation due to the independent suspension. I would be very interested in hearing about the custom arms you are running as that is one of the major hurdles to getting reasonable travel. Of course the other massive problem that you have no doubt already found if you have a 36" tire is there is no gearing options. Even a 33 or 34" tire really needs to be re-geared to AT LEAST get back to stock gearing and even then it's not low enough for crawling. But I'd really love to see/hear more about your truck.
