I greet everyone out there who appreciate doing off roading responsibly, and overlanding ! Thank you for your video, and your sharing of why you chose to go to a LR3. I had a beautiful Rubicon, set up for off road, with 35's and gave it to my son. This weekend my son and I will meet to look at an LR3 for me. He lives in VA as I still do half the year, the other half, like now, I live in WI and we are meeting in MN to look at this LR3. So I'm pretty excitied. First to see my son, and then we will take this LR3 on a test run. If I buy it, then it will be fun to set it up to suit my needs. It has 33's on it now and other stuff, but not ready for my needs. My son and I, we are truck drivers so to meet like this is amazing for all to work out. I Love my Rubicon, and miss it a LOT but . . . all works out for a reason. I feel a Land Rover is what will suit me best now. My son builds off road vehicles and has near completed from the ground up, a Land Rover Discovery 2. He loves both the Jeep Rubicon's and Land Rover 3 and 4. PS - A Jeep Wrangler/ Rubicon is not a car, it's a JEEP !! 🕎
Amen! From my wife's 2 pregnancies using access height to let her slide into the vehicle, to the awesome off road height, AND it's programmed with a high center mode to extend the vehicle a tadd bit higher when it senses its in a high centered condition, but you just press the UP suspension lever to engage that extra help mode.
Love my LR3! It’s a beast with a 3inch Johnson rod lift, black rhino rims and BFG a/t’s. It out performs my old Jeep and f150 and you can’t beat the price!
I'm in Europe and own die TDV6 (diesel) version of the LR3. Just one tip of advice, never "trust" the LR3. And never speak bad about it's reliability even if you're not in the vehicle. It will hear you say it and break down in the worst possible place. Other than that, I 100% agree it should be green and I wish you many, many awesome adventure sir!
Now I love this channel even more. All those stories about reliability... This same car has been in family since 2008. Al I can remember is good adventure. Math is simple, for people who can't pay consistent services... Dont buy that car. You don't just drive Land Rover, you live it!
@@t3time2drive People are rarely aware of true meaning of OFF-road. This car is made for it. They started with off-road cars, not street cars and then made few models for "off-road". I can't deny that it sometimes needs more detailed attention. I had some issues too,... But with regular and consistent mechanic visits, it does exactly what it is ment for. Toyota is great car,.. I am saying again, you don't just drive Land Rover, you live it!
P. S. Good off-road has two factors,.. Driver and the car. You can get stuck with Land Rover,... Then you must work on your driving capabilities. We all know that car can not drive up the wall, so, we must bring our wishes to the level of our car's capabilities. Then and only then, we meet no limits, strange, maybe a little bit paradoxical but its true.
Stop it, that glass wasn't Land Rovers issue in any way. The drains - yes every unit needs those replaced every 10 years if dry and like every 3 if in the NW.
Welcome to the LR world. Come take a look at mine if you want to see the baja design lights on a rhino rack. Also, highly suggest adding a SYA kit if you haven't already.
@@t3time2drive the SYA kit doesn't provide any lift to the air suspension. Is works like a bump stop spacer, so if the air springs ever fail on you on a trail, it will keep it from dropping all the way to the ground. Actually a 2.5 inch lift rod is required to install a SYA kit, which you already have, so halfway there.
Amen. 4.4 V8 is thirsty, but like a tank, it just keeps going strong. Ours has 207k miles and goes as strong as ever. One tip: every 30k or so, give the intake opening and the breathing valve a good cleaning with some intake/carb cleaner as it will get a little gummy sticky ring build up that will cause chasing idling. Just a little cleaner, and it idles like it was designed to smooth as a Jag kitten.
Some advice from a long time L319 owner. Leave the air suspension alone as much as you can, even off road. Leave it in normal height if you don't need the height to clear something, and only raise it up on the trail when you get to something that needs it. It will ride significantly smoother. I'd get rid of the rods too. I use mine off road all the time and if the trail is very rutted or something I might bump it up, but I try not to and the ride is so much more comfortable. Look at the xlifter module if you sleep inside or on top, it lets you self level it 4.5 degrees of tile/roll. Xlifter also lets you control height if you want instead of using rods.

Welcome to Land Rover!! My 2006 Tonga Green LR3 has 292K miles, so you have a ton to look forward to! Don’t do the Baja Rack haha 😂😂 FR would be my second choice but only has a 600 lb capacity and is a tad noisier.

Hey Jory, M CHI3F here 👋 massive congrats on your LR3! After chatting with you on IG I had to check out your new baby here on your car channel. Every true car enthusiast will have immediately connected with your story or having to “let go” of a beloved car that we’ve had for quite some time. Myself included. But new adventures await, and I’m looking forward to seeing all the upgrades and goodies you’ll be adding to your Discovery 👍
Hopefully you got an LR3 with the Heavy Duty option which gives you a Rear Locker in addition to the standard Center Diff Lock. As you know that makes a world of difference to the real extreme off road capability. I've had our HSE 2006 LR3 for the last 15 years. Its got 207k miles on it, and that 4.4 V8 is running better than new. Replaced the huge radiator just a few months ago, and a new alternator, 3 / 4 air shocks, 2 air pumps, and yes every unit needs sunroof drains replaced. But we LOVE this beautiful baby. Its Chawton White, with tan leather interior, so I'm a wee bit jealous of your exterior color.
I have a defender 1999, I live in argentina, tough car, easy to repair, no electrónics. No comfort. But, always got Back from the most difficult trails. Cheap to repair. Depends on the budget. Big enough to sleep in the back. Hose the interior after river crossings
Jory, my wife and I owned two LR4s. Both HSE. First was a 2011 with the 5.0 liter V8, second was a 2016 with the 3.0 liter supercharged V6. My wife was the primary driver for both. She loved the height and the fact that they were as strong as a tank. Regrettably, the 2016 turned out to be a lemon. You have made a great choice, as the LR3 and LR4 are great vehicles for the highway and off-roading.
I am at the tail end of my lr3 build, so happy with it. Looking forward to seeing yours. Front Runner rack is the way to go, plus is looks so good on the lr3...wind fairing is a must
Have you had any funky experiences where everything on the dash lights up and transmission fault and all this stuff that isn't true and you have to disconnect the battery cables and make it reset the system and then it's totally fine even though your battery and your alternator were good prior? Mine did that once and I hear that sometimes it happens . I just got my lr3 a few weeks ago and put on the Johnson Rod 2.5. I have a discovery Series 2 with raptor paint and 4-in lift with adjustable Terra Firma solid axle coils front and rear the whole nine yards with Johnny joints and everything and it's all flexed out but man this lr3 is great on the road and on the long easier Scenic trails
I will admit, I didn’t like this move at first. Being a New Englander myself, I have a soft spot for Jeeps. You’re absolutely right, and good luck with the LR3!
I’ll always love NE, and I’ll ALWAYS love Jeeps! I’m just having fun trying something else for a bit- I know I’ll get a Jeep again at some point. Check out my latest episode on this LR: th-cam.com/video/4buZyp4AAeM/w-d-xo.html
Really excited to follow your build. The feeling of safety and comfort for my significant other was a major buying criteria for me as well. The cabin is well insulated and conversation is easy. When we are on roadtrips she gets real comfortable in the passenger seat and she has room for sleeping, knitting, being snack manager, dj and navigator in what is essentially a lounge chair with safety belts. Speaking of safety it really brings me peace of mind to drive and also to let her drive such a big yet gentle vehicle with all the safety features you expect from a modern suv. And I know that no matter what obstacles she encounter on her way she can always power through, because even though she has little technical insight in diff locks and what not the car senses what terrain she is on and ajusts accordingly. My advice to you is to have a diagnostics tool like GAP IID-tool. Then you can find out what is wrong or delete faults on the go if nessecary, and you can lift the cehicle without rods. Cheers from Norway.
Hello Norway!! I love how civilized yet rugged this LR3 is! Check out the newest episode and please leave a comment!! th-cam.com/video/4buZyp4AAeM/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful vehicle but I would've stuck with the Jeep. I understand your reasoning, however, from a maintenance cost alone, l think the Jeep wins out. Enjoy your Rover though, it's a classic.
Our family of 4 + 2 dogs love taking it offroad, we don’t due anything crazy because of all the weight in the vehicle. Save some $ to get a gap tool. The tool can adjust your suspension without rods and can be used for maintenance!!
Don’t take any notice of the unreliability crowd; they’re just jealous or have never lifted a spanner. When you need to fix something may I suggest Land Rover DRIVE and LR TIME for how to do it videos. Congratulations on joining the LR family. Land Rover owners are a dedicated lot and you might find a club near you. Cheers 👍🏻🙏🏽🦘
Didn’t realize you had a channel like this. Been a follower of your watch channel for a while and stumbled across this video because I’m looking for an LR3 or LR4 for an overland rig. Also realized you and I both have STI’s as well! My STI is a 2015 WRB that I bought brand new. Love it to death! But will be nice to have an automatic for a while in another vehicle. Having a clutch in rush hour traffic sucks.
Welcome to the fold! I've had an LR3 for over 3 years now as my daily and as my occasional offroader. Love it. Since you have put the bigger tires on it, 2 things that you should consider - in your rear passenger tire well beneath the fender liner is a very sharp and precariously placed body pinch weld. If you stuff that tire up in the fender with some serious articulation, you will cut your tire. Also in that same well are your rear A/C lines. There are numerous references on how to relocate them. But those are two easy things to take care of to save yourself some costly repairs. Can't wait to see more of what you do with yours!
@@t3time2drive absolutely! Your videos are great. I also have a Tonga Green LR3 and I have an ARB and XRC gen 2 sitting in my garage waiting for me to get some free time to throw them on! Haven’t decided on lights yet though.
what year model is it, did they give you the service records? I wish I had mine, I hope that air ride stays up, I got an '05, low miles but I've found the sunroof must have leaked for a while and there was possibly already a new or rebuilt compressor motor, the air ride, HDC, no terrain, no suspension issues are a drag, the new Suncore coil conversion kit is here, but I'm going to give the air ride a few more attempts at working, I can't keep replacing parts, and I'm not paying $700 for a gap tool, I spent two afternoons taking the air tank out, all four bolts broke off, or sawn off, road salt eats these cars, I'm thinking now I'll put it all back and use it as a tire inflator set up and install the coil springs, I should have got one from CA, mine came from Chicago and has the rust to prove it, the body is amazing though, I think we had one or two little test drive adventures which went well, the engine and transmission are great on these, but the electronics are a downer
Very nice vehicle! I have to say, though, one of my biggest regrets when it comes to cars was selling my ‘98 Wrangler TJ (4cyl/5M) in ‘08. 2 years ago I got an ‘18 JLU Sport (V6/6M) so all is right with the world again.
I don't know if you've got the roof rack yet, but the Frontrunner equipment and accessories are great, good quality and useful. Also look at the RAI it looks better than the snorkel.
I subscribed in order to follow this build, i am kind of in the same spot as you, traveling more and longer distances with my wife i now need something more comfortable and safe than my old Salvage Xterra, that old SUV took us everywhere in baja but it was starting to show its age and needed tons of suspension work in order to be highway worthy. I am making a list of possible replacements and an LR3 is definitely in there, i am interested in how you address the LR3's main issues and make it more reliable (usually LR3 and LR4 are way more reliable than the discos 1 and 2) if you change out the air suspension, etc. Good luck and what a good looking rig you've got so far.
I’m more of a defender guy but I’d love a Disco 3 as a daily. Get a good one, that’s been looked after and it will be no less reliable than any other vehicle.
I got rid of my sports car to get into a 2008 Range Rover. Haven't looked back once. Your color choice is great. I also lucked out and got my Rover in Lucerne Green.
Oh boy your in for a rude awakening from no headaches and endless reliability of your jeep to a nightmare of potential horror of the Land Rover. You go for one short ride and it's cozy exquisite bliss trust me I know. Don't worry about those long trips because the trips will be short but the time in the shop will be endless. Good luck my friend you have came to our dark side of Land Rover ownership.
Love the lr3 man looks great! I’m picking up my white lr3 next week and was wondering what lift kit you have on this is? I believe you said 2 inch Johnson? Also what size tires are those? I’ve always bought Goodyear duratracs for all my 4x4s. Is it 275/65/18? Thanks!
Hey man, I watched your video on selling your Jeep and buying a Land Rover. I am in a nearly identical spot. I have a nicely built 2004 TJ. Its fun to drive around town but really a headache to drive long distance and most of the wheeling I do is minimum 1.75 hours away. I am really thinking about selling it and buying an LR3 but I am torn. Now that you are 9 months into yours, any regrets?
HELP!! I currently own a '06 Lexus GX40 w/ 175K miles. I've built it out for overlanding and love the truck. Here's my dilemma. My father-in-law just passed away and I have the opportunity to buy a '05 LR3 HSE w/ 104K miles. Original owner, meticulously maintained. For what I can sell my GX, I can buy the LR3 and kit it out EXTREMELY well. However, reliability is the concern. GX vs LR3? Comments welcomed!!
Didn't sell my jeep(s) but DID get a LR3 for my wife (in grey). My theory is... she'll probably crash it relatively soon and I will buy it back from insurance and then turn it into a BEAST with no remorse for destroying it as I generally do to my trucks..

Land Rovers don't have a great reputation for reliability here in the UK. How does the saying go, "if you want to go into the desert take a Land Rover, if you want to come back take a Land Cruiser", hope you don't have any serious issues with it.
Like a former owner or range rover p38 mod 1995, let me envía mform to you the nightmare of that suspension. Many other owners will indicate to you the same. Best regards. Juan from Colombia

@@10228661 Well, in regards to this model and its air compressor, air lines and 4 air bags… it’s literally not a complicated system- at all. The most common issue is the airbags degrading over time. The best part is, these airbags are super plentiful from various parts manufacturers at daily low cost. The only other issue that is commonly seen is a compressor fault, which is not difficult to access and swap out. If that sounds scary to you… I guess you don’t play with your vehicles much.

Gonna miss the jeep good luck with the land rover
Jory, my wife and I owned two LR4s. Both HSE. First was a 2011 with the 5.0 liter V8, second was a 2016 with the 3.0 liter supercharged V6. My wife was the primary driver for both. She loved the height and the fact that they were as strong as a tank. Regrettably, the 2016 turned out to be a lemon. You have made a great choice, as the LR3 and LR4 are great vehicles for the highway and off-roading.
I am at the tail end of my lr3 build, so happy with it. Looking forward to seeing yours. Front Runner rack is the way to go, plus is looks so good on the lr3...wind fairing is a must
I have the Baja Rack full size going on Monday!
If possible could you send a list of items or do a video of the overall items done to it. Looking at doing this myself for my first offroader

Awesome LR3 looks like we might see more off road trips 😀

I will admit, I didn’t like this move at first. Being a New Englander myself, I have a soft spot for Jeeps. You’re absolutely right, and good luck with the LR3!
I’ll always love NE, and I’ll ALWAYS love Jeeps! I’m just having fun trying something else for a bit- I know I’ll get a Jeep again at some point. Check out my latest episode on this LR: th-cam.com/video/4buZyp4AAeM/w-d-xo.html
Nice choice. I have a D3. Love the wheels and tyres 👍
Thanks brother! It looks even better with my newest mods: th-cam.com/video/4buZyp4AAeM/w-d-xo.html

If you ever decide to sell those oem wheels reach out! I’m a new LR3 enthusiast!
Gotta get the gap tool for sure! th-cam.com/video/4buZyp4AAeM/w-d-xo.html
Don’t take any notice of the unreliability crowd; they’re just jealous or have never lifted a spanner.

Hi what size tires did you go with wanted to know before I purchased some yours look good
Didn’t realize you had a channel like this.
What year is the Lr3 ? And what are the best years to buy?
I was aware of the AC lines, but thanks for the info about the pinch weld!! I’ll pay attention to it! 🤘🤘🤘

what year model is it, did they give you the service records?
I hope it goes ok mate. My limited experience with Landrover is that they tend to be very hit and miss. Good luck!

Absolutely ZERO regrets. I’m going an update video shortly. Bottom line… this was a HUGE upgrade.

GX vs LR3?

Land Rovers don't have a great reputation for reliability here in the UK. How does the saying go, "if you want to go into the desert take a Land Rover, if you want to come back take a Land Cruiser", hope you don't have any serious issues with it.
