Well that explains why architectural shingles are so much heavier. I thought I was just getting weak lol.

GAF Timberline HDZ has this upgraded nailing zone as well.

Maybe add the placement of the nails along the strip horizontally. In other words don’t place a nail in the 6 inch zone where your next shingle above is staggered over leaving a not so obvious shiner where the shingles butt up to each other. Great video tho

I agree. Quick study and detailed. Once I started got i feel confident i could easily accomplish. But not as fast. 10,000 nails a day is much. My weak spot would be initial setup. Starter strip, drip, Ice Shield before or after drip.

Why do roofers use nails? My 3 tab roof was installed 30years ago with staples and that thing lived through hurricanes, a tornado and multiple storms as you can imagine in 30 years without losing a single shingle. Due to superior venting it lasted 30 years and looks great still. Being proactive I will replace it this month but it's sad to see roofers using nails and the ridge vent instead of gable vents. I'm sure both are inferior to what I have now.

Excellent video, unfortunately it's a whole theory and practice type situation with roofing. I do feel all manufacturers should widen the common bond area, for the people that are only interested in speed, it would definitely help. What's also extremely important is nail placement as far as joints. The average person doesn't understand how water spreads and could easily work its way down a nail and cause a leak. With proper education before you contract the roof you could at least make that known beforehand.
