  • This video is a 3-way shingling race between myself, one of the greatest roofers to ever live, and of course everybody's favorite young stud, Boycub. Please Like, subscribe, hit the bell and DON'T FORGET TO SHARE WITH YOUR SHINGLING FRIENDS WHO THINK THEY'RE FAST. LOL. Oh, and as always, no quality was sacrificed in the making of this video. Quality always comes first, there's no glory in being the fastest hack!

    This video is my new favorite! I love to shingle, I love competition, and I'm thrilled that I was able to make a video with a long time roofing friend. A legend in the game, a man who is widely regarded as the fastest, quality Shingler in NW Indiana. A man that I learned so much from and had the opportunity to roof with for years before starting my business. Please show support for the 29 year roofing veteran that made this all possible. ALSO, if you don't believe me that this is my teacher....fast forward to 12:30 lmfaooo

    Way to put nails right at the splice in that first row… We just replaced a whole roof because there were nails that rusted and leaked right at tons of splices. That roof was only 12 years old. I checked the permit form the city to verify the age.

    You're kidding me, the worlds fastest shingler? I just watched the first 10 minutes of this video . Back when I first started shingling we used what they called a stripper to hand nail the shingles, I would install 15 to 23 squares a day. when we started using air guns in the early 80s it didn't matter the size of the roof it would get finished that day. I just don't see the speed here

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I installed 40 square exactly, completely alone on a roof. In 1 day. And it was hot out. Giant roof, you can see the proof. I'm actually submitting the video to Guinness at some point because I know it's the most shingles ever installed by one lone roofer in a day. Quality anyway lol and prove-able. I look slow but if you're shingling that often you know you have to pace yourself. I like to keep a 9-12 minute square pace in the open

      I know that feeling. Carrying shingles up the ladder on your shoulder takes the breath out of you because that 90 pounds is pressing on your lungs. In the heat that's about all I'd want to carry. I've been roofing for about 19 years. We have a shingle elevator now. I just place them on that and send em. One thing to watch out for with the lift is that lift can come off of those ladder rails and it'll dump that bundle to the ground and could possibly take out a window lol. Scary stuff. Nailing shingles can be fun if your not heat exhausted

    • @carrywoodard5867
      @carrywoodard5867 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Meant to say this. With the ladder lift it's best to place those bundles centered evenly across it. Too far to one side could be the cause of the little coasting wheels breaking free from the ladder. Scares me when I think about it that it's much like a rollercoaster 😅

    That may be impressive to people that dont know any better but that was far from impressive for any roofer. Neither one of you is the G.O.A.T. not even close, just like your hip cuts😲. What do you cut up bundles of 3 tab to use for your hip cap cause standard hip& ridge isn't going to cover up those cuts. I watch all these videos of people that think their top of the game and i have to ask. Have you not worked with any other roofers before? I have worked with hundreds of different roofers in the last 25 years and im not seeing anything spectacular in this video.

  • @DonnieSimmons-s7f
    @DonnieSimmons-s7f ปีที่แล้ว

    I hate to be this guy, but i cant hold my tongue when a guy claims to be the fastest roofer on earth. But takes 30min to install 2square on a cake area. It literally doesnt get easier than a full hip with no penetrations and 4/12 pitch! You dont have to be precise or clean with youre cuts because of course tge ridge cap will cover... anyhow by that math if the 40 square you installed was a straight gable with no penetrations and walkable pitch you still would be at least 8 sq short of the 40 you claim. Anyhow you do good work but i dont think you could hold a candle to me or some of my guys that work for me. Sorry not buying it.

I really think knee pads and a proper high quality blade with a new-like bostich gun is unstoppable in terms of speed installment without sacrifice on quality nail placement. And 120 bundle day for ducky thats insane...... i take that as new con, and like 16 hours? can i get details on that? the 2 guys i learned from and myself i would consider the fastest/with quality. My best is 36-38 reno, and like 45 new-con both 12-14 hour days (with breaks). Thanks for content always love to see decent roofing, Respect from Canada

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching man I appreciate the comment. And the 120 bundles was all me. Ducky did like 33 sq one time. But yea the day i got 40 sq it wasn't actually new construction. Me and 4 others tore off about 60 sq, then the next day I shingled 40 sq. Completely alone. I filmed every shingle I installed that day because I know most people wouldn't believe a story like that. And I also went yt live in the middle, and in the end so it was documented on youtube for extra proof. You can check out the videos "quest for 50 sq" oh and it was about 12 hour day. When I edited the film though (for a video which I haven't published yet) the film was only 8 hours n some change when I cut all the trips down the ladder and breaks out of it. So I did it all in about 8.5 hours of having a gun in my hand, with no help at all.

Noticing that is what made me 100% certain that making videos about roofing would be beneficial. Helping others learn and drop the delusion. I've installed 40 sq alone in one day. No tosser. Just me and a camera man on the roof and I'm sending the video to guiness for the world record so guys like you can drop the ego and learn. I've also personally seen him do 33 sq in one day. completely alone! about 6 years ago. You have no chance. We can hold this pace for 12 hours and are highly efficient. Day after day. We are different. The fact that you even mentioned hand nailing shows me the lack of understanding you have when it comes to completing a task in a highly efficient manner. Wow! Finally someone who talks about more than just gun speed. There is still hope out there. But listen here bud, I was a little rusty coming into this day, I could've done a couple small things better, but nail placement isn't one of them. That's perfect every time. Btw, I installed 40 sq in one day completely alone and i took into account everything you mentioned x10. Things must shinglers would'nt even consider. You can see the 2 videos on my lives, but I will be posting an uninterrupted version of it soon. Watched portions of video again. Duck's nails are to close to seams of shingles. Only takes 1 misplaced nail to cause a leak. Your nails were spaced better and more consistently...You won... Thanks for your service ( 45years doing roofing and counting)

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't do it man. I'm about to quit chewing again. Stay strong and never convince yourself that one cigarette is okay coz you have control over it. it's not. You don't. you're more likely to smoke a pack before the days over than you are to have one cigarette and go back to being strong. Learnt that lesson more than once. Hit the gym or something to burn off some steam when you're feeling ancy and don't forget to praise the benefits when you notice them. Like feeling better, looking better, breathing better, etc. Pay close attention to the good. And if you don't notice the good, lie to yourself 😂

    Cool, Well I have done 4 roofs in my life. Did my house 2 years ago at age 60. About 18 square in two days including roof caps and used a lot of the techniques you demonstrate on your channel. I got no leaks so hopefully that will be the last one I ever do.. I mean it will need to be done again when I'm 85..:). Thanks for all the tips you have shown us!

      60?? Well shit I guess I have no excuse then. I'm 54 and about to tackle my 2nd roof (my house) next week. My first roof was the garage I built 20 years ago. I'm not taking any chances though because it's a 12/12 pitch so I'm building full deck scaffolding all around at the eaves plus roping in. I'm also slow asf. 😂
