A lot of people don't believe ADHD is real until they marry someone with ADHD. The "trail of broken dreams" is dead on. Everything gets started, nothing gets finished.
I'm pushing forty...my wife and I watched this and she turned to me and said..."Are you sure you don't have ADHD....cuz you're the wife in this picture, except with a collection of tools instead of rocks and several boxes of unfinished repairs". Decided to get a professional opinion on the matter...and 6 doctors and weeks of evaluation later...yeah, I'm Drew's wife.
My ADHD husband wants to finish our basement himself. Could have paid a little more to have the builders do it when they finished the rest of the house, but this is his dream. The rest of the house was finished 6 years ago. The basement has a half dozen support beams ... and that's all.
As a woman with ADHD, a rock collection, a spiritual connection to squirrels, and enough art and craft supplies to start my own store, I laughed so hard I thought I was going to trigger an asthma attack. All I can say is thank God I'm not married, and especially not married to a stand up comedian, lol.
As someone with ADHD...yup, this is pretty accurate. Right after I started ADHD medication at the age of 33 it was an epiphany when mid-washing dishes, I saw something else in the kitchen needing to be done, (with sponge in hand) was able to pause before moving to that other task, and tell myself, "I'll get to that after I finish the dishes." 🤯
anyone please describe more into detail being on the pills, I dunno I can be taking em, because I learned to live with it and taking advantage of it... my work and workflow and creativity is based on total chaos, but I'm content creator and designer and I need to be creative and I need the hyperfocus, helps me finish difficult projects I'd be lazy to even start or work on. I'd say pills will take all that from me + psychical medication often leads into gaining weight. Pot lil helps me to focus and to be productive, but makes me silent eh.. beer helps me focus only on manual work, but turns me at least into the 'normal' person socially.
@@a420dro I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor/Therapist as well as a Musician, Songwriter, and arts-n'-crafts maverick. TBH taking my prescribed Dopamine & Norepinephrine Anti-depressant with a prescribed stimulant medication (appropriately), has helped me finish and time the several projects and pieces that I start. Typically, I'll have like 10 or more things I'm working on at the same time, and it's difficult to finish them due to the constant loss of focus, motivation and anxieties via RSD. I'm the same way normally with THC and Alcohol. Also, when I got used to my medication, I ended up naturally not wanting to use rec. substances as much. I think it is because I was getting the mental steadiness and release, I was hoping for physically and mentally through my medication. Word of caution, every person's body chemistry is different...it takes some trial and error as well as patience to find what works best for you. A recommendation (look into) "Genesight Testing: genesight.com/ . God Speed Ahead!
@@a420dro It produces the ability to buffer / queue tasks in your head. Furthermore it gives you the ability to stop and think before acting - something most people have the ability to do but ADHD kinda just... doesn't. Also it makes starting a task you don't want to do way easier, which means it's basically a giant 'motivation' booster. ADHD is sometimes jokingly compared to erectile dysfunction of the brain - doesn't matter how badly you want to do something, it's not a willpower thing. Meds make your willpower actually hold sway over doing things like it should. Everyone reacts differently to different medications and treatments, so find what works for you. But as someone in their mid-30s who's been on meds since they were in preschool I literally cannot function like an adult off of them. They're not addictive - in fact forgetting to take them or refill your prescription is the main hurdle with them, but they can create a dependency because you don't have to use coping mechanisms every day to do basic tasks. So, that said, if you're used to using those coping mechanisms, then this shouldn't be an issue. However, it will feel like putting on glasses and seeing the world clearly, and you'll likely not want to go without because of it. I mean, a person with glasses can absolutely function without them. But ask people with glasses if they'd intentionally choose not to wear them and go back to blurry vision as a default and I promise none of them will say yes seriously.
I use this, to show people, to help explain, the 'turmoils' of life. I have a plastic model kit of a clipper ship, unfinished, I've carried/moved, for almost 40 years, so far, because, I'm determined, to finish it, one day,..🙄😒
My sister is not emo, but she has a grumpy silent personality and it has always annoyed the crap out of her how I ask her SOOOOO many questions. Everyday. Lol.
rockycersosimo8784, As I understand it (from friends that are ADHD) her dancing to his stuttering is actually a good thing; a compliment in a round about way. She's not mocking him. Rather, he makes her feel like dancing. But he may not have seen it as a compliment at the time.
This guy just represented ADHD, proved that unconditional love is real, threw dirt at people who capitalise on other people’s problems and actually made us laugh. HERO.
restraint is still a choice when you have ADHD btw, acting like that is a choice you choose to make. its the same with emotions, you dont control what emotions you feel but that doesnt mean your emotions control you and how you act. ADHD is the same
@@ZEROAAHENIX No, it's not the same. We're talking about a well-researched, neurological disorder that affects executive functions and *self-control* (see the problem with your assessment?). Which choice to make is something you control, but your choices may be limited; ADHD symptoms like distractability and hyperfocus are absolutely NOT a choice. While there are some tools, coping mechanisms, and resources that can help us (if we can *remember* to use them!), just using "restraint" to control ADHD--if it works at all--is mentally exhausting, highly limited, and impossible to sustain. It's kind of like telling someone who's had no food or sleep for 48 hours that solving algebra problems is just simple math. Maybe it is, but if you expect them to do it at the same speed and level as someone who's eaten and slept well, you're probably not going to get great results.
@@Amy-zr5mn >me- a neurologist for 6 years who also has ADHD and PTSD that i learned to control through proper conditioning and mental strengthening >you- someone who doesnt have actual real life knowledge on the subject like i do we are not the same also no one even once claimed that you choose to feel distracted or hyperfused, wtf are you smoking. i said the EXACT opposite of that kid, learn to read
Right??? Also, I got so excited when his wife said, "It worked!" about her squirrel ladder, I, a 45 yr old woman, squealed "YES!" and did a victory fist pump for what I believe is definitely the first time in my life, although I admit I am often wrong about that kind of thing when I'm So Totally Present In The Moment that all other moments have apparently ceased to exist🤔
My parents literally gave me a room for all my unfinished projects. Looking back i realized what an awesome parents they were for putting up with a crazy child like me. I did painting, drawing, paper mache, knitting, sewing clothes, painting on shoes, on bags, on shirts, I played piano, violin, guitar, recorder, and ukulele, I sing, dance, do taekwondo, play video games, and collects hardbound books, hero figurines, hot wheels, and barbies. It was like I had a different dream every week and my parents supported me for it, they saw it as a sign of a brilliant kid, a jack of all trades. If i were my parents I wouldn't have the patience to deal with a kid like me
I call that a "learning circuit" keep rotating and if you don't stop you eventually come back to square one, improve on each project segment and keep going until all the projects are done. Although that usually takes the whole weekend.
Living with ADHD husband. I was so frustrated today, depressed if life will ever get better with him… and just watching this… somehow makes me feel a lot better…
This comment made me feel better. I feel like I'm going to lose some of the people I love most because I can't function like a normal human being no matter how hard I try. It's hard being like this.
Unfortunately it usually doesn't get better. 🙁 Speaking from experience, if you don't have kids, don't get any, and consider if this is the way you want to live the rest of your life.
“It looks like etsy took a shit in our house” That’s how you know this is a true story I honestly can’t think of a shorter sentence that sums up ADHD hyperfixation perfectly
Jesus Christ that was a funny set! I have ADHD, love squirrels, and my apt. definitely often looks like etsy shit everywhere - that was some accurate comedy!

I'm deeply ADHD, and I have no idea how non-ADHD people live with us. I am deeply grateful to know that ADHD people and non-ADHD can peacefully co-exist.
Agree. And I have no idea how I would live without my neurotypical husband. The house is clean. There’s groceries AND toilet paper before we run out. He has an INTERNAL sense of time. It’s all some dark magic, I’m sure of it!
Non ADHD people-oriented exist with us. They just tell themselves that they don't have the energy to deal with us so they just leave us to our Tornado thoughts.
I kept wanting to see what his wife was going to do next. I felt a connection to her. It made me feel empathy because she cares so deeply. I know some may not get this. She cares about everything all at once, so its hard to get anything done. I love the part about how she rescued the squirrel!
Just sent this to my sister, the only one of two family witnesses left of the ADHD. Sister has memories of critter salvation home building attempt memories. Started with my top drawer nest for bugs. This is so spot on.

I was diagnosed with ADHD 35 years ago as a teenage. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them
YES very sure of Dr.alishrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
Yes he's Dr.alishrooms.Shrooms to me is a natrual healer. I know a guy who has used mushrooms in the same way and they have really helped him. mah dudes have safe trips all.
From my experience it really works excellently! It doesnt even need to be a full hit. With potent shrooms 2-3 small ones will still make a clear difference. It will be a few hour cosy rumbling moment around rest time, but afterwards its just calm and you feel amazing and gain your freedom. Psilocybin is different dudes, its the only "treatment" I would recommend to someone who genuinely wants to get better. There is no addiction, withdrawal, or negative side effects. It's just pure healing., far more effective than any anti-depressant. You can thank me later,

😂😂😂😂 I wasn’t diagnosed until late in life. Retired from the Army not knowing that I should’ve had a medical waiver to join. I believe they still require that from folks with ADHD, but not from folks who have gender dysphoria? And the ‘normal’ folks think we’re weird because we have a spiritual connection to squirrels? By the way, International Squirrel Appreciation Day is the 21st of January. Eat some nuts and pass them out.
I have ADHD, and I could relate to so much of this, even the rock collecting, but when he said that his wife started dancing when he stuttered on the word stressed, I busted out laughing until tears were pouring out of my eyes.
I think you can only truly appreciate how hilarious this is if you have ADHD or experience with ADHD because even though I’m super picky with standup, I legit cried tears of laughter throughout his ADHD set
I have mascara tears from this set LOL! I have ADHD and I related so hard to his wife! I legit did collect rocks as kid and I love collecting crystals (though I don't believe they have special powers, I just think they're very pretty). And I do talk to animals in my yard, squirrels included.. 🤣

I haven’t been diagnosed but I start 27 projects, move from task to unfinished task, live in cluttered chaos and am blessed with a friend who makes me finish all of it. I force myself to finish making my bed and keep the dishes under control. At one point I lived in a 14 room house and there wasn’t one clear surface in the whole place!
Thanks for the heads up. I was going to share this with my boyfriend, but it may empower him to call me out on my daily behavior even more. He claims my whole day is thrown off course if I hear a bird tweet. It was never on course anyway.
My daughter is like this. She has absolutely no concept of time. Nothing is ever all the way finished and her emotions are all over the place. It's exhausting. She makes plans but they never happen. She went to the store for toilet paper and ended up buying a kayak, finding a river, tipping the kayak, losing her shoes, getting lost and calling for help. She forgot to get what she went for because the kayaks were displayed right inside the door. She needs a minder to keep her on track.
My favorite part of the living with the ADHD-er puzzle is when they start telling you something or asking a question, but they haven't included you in the conversation they had in their head leading up to it. I have to work out, based on what we've talked about in the last few days what the pronouns in their sentences might be. They've mentally gone through points A-F without me, brought me in at G, now I have to work backwards to figure out what B is.
It’s surprising how many conversations need to start with “did I tell you X?” between beloved and I. We are both guilty of this, and the reverse of having the conversation and not remembering anything from it.
My daughter has ADHD. However, she was not the weird kid. She was quiet in class and would destress once she got home, which was such a joy.😳 Some girls with ADHD do not want to get in trouble so they are hyper vigilant to be good in class.
Yep! Definitely manifests differently between boys and girls. I'm diagnosed with it. I'm convinced a handful of my 6 kids have it and definitely different from boys to girls.
omg is no one gonna talk about how far drew has come he barely stutters its incrediable man . i have chronic depression loved the video i finally laughed again
I howled with laughter throughout. As a woman with ADHD, all the jokes made me feel seen, but the last one hit home so hard. My husband occasionally stutters, and once when he was stuck on a word, I turned it into a rap song and started dancing. He was not happy, and I had to explain that I wasn’t making fun of him, that the sound just triggered that thought, and that’s where my brain went. I felt so bad for doing it, and yet I still laughed until I cried at Drew’s experience.
I relate... i am the mom (non-adhd).. my son is adult son is adhd and growing up he would hyperfix on accents or how i said a certain word and he'd mimic it over and over.. took me a while to realize that he wasn't making fun of how i said things... Now that he is 30, he does accents really well and can quote some hilarious movie lines.
Thank you for this- our 17 year old hyperfixates on accents and words and perseverates until we are all losing our minds. I had no idea this was part of ADHD.
@@rachelsanders4913 ❤❤It very much is. I'm from the U.S. and my husband is from the UK, and I have had to really work hard to not imitate his accent all the time because it makes him feel like he's being made fun of, which is not the case at all. I also have moments where just a word hits, and my brain latches on to how odd the word sounds, regardless of whether I or someone else says it. I once used the word "toward" in the middle of a conversation and my brain noticed it was a weird sounding word, so I started saying it in various ways rather than completing the sentence. I knew what was going on in my head, but to others I looked like I had broken and was just standing there going "tword, tord, toowaard, twaaard, twooord."

When I was a kid I was diagnosed by my doctor with ADD. ADD and ADHD used to be two sperate diagnoses but after further study, it became more acurate to refer to them as Inatentive ADHD, Hyperactive ADHD, or combined ADHD. Its all the same thing, the differentiation is just based on your symptoms. Just to avoid the spread of misinformation.
Yes! Often, as in my case, the hyperactivity is not visible... It is not physical activity, but rather it is my brain that is hyperactive. It is never not busy, no matter how hard I try, it is impossible for me to "clear my mind". This guy hysterically described a day in the life of me!
Hilarious! I have ADHD. My husband and I watched this and couldn’t stop laughing. In fact, we’re still laughing! I laughed WAY too hard at all of this. 😂😂😂😂😂 My husband is ADHD, as are 3 of our 4 children. They used to drive me insane and I'd get mad that I couldn't "fix" them. But somewhere along the years I started appreciating their ADHD differences and now, 35 years later, I absolutely LOVE the way they are and wouldn't change a thing about any of them. ❤❤❤❤
As a mom with adhd who has a son with adhd.. thank you :) I hope my husband will come around to your point of view, he has accepted it and deals with it as best as he can, but fails to recognise the positive things it does for us (not refusing, just not..grasping).
I’m diagnosed ADHD and my wife was just staring me the whole time while watching this. She gets SO frustrated with me almost on a daily basis. For you spouses/partners out there who deal with us……thank you. We appreciate you 😂
Honestly man her frustration is the type of thing that will destroy a marriage over time. There are partners who love you enough to not get frustrated daily, maybe occasionally, but not that often. Those are the ones to find.
My husband just smirked at me, shook his head and went to complete 1 task, and 1 task only. Then playfully flaunted his ability to be a proper adult in my face. Hahaha cheers to the spouses and peers with patience and playfulness with us 🍻

I worry a lot about my life, everyone around me and pleasing everyone. It's absolutely crippling, so glad she got the help she needed, lovely young lady it's so sad that society has 1 in 3 people suffering mental health issues. I hope everyone seeks help
Wish you could talk to my wife.. she sometimes don't laugh, she just gets mad at me. Depends on how someone laughs "about me" I don't do good with people laughing at me or making fun of me. But it can bother me, and upset me, that my wife is mad at me and it's like.. I can't help it. We've had some big arguments over the years.. it's a wonder to me sometimes why we are together or why she's put up with me this long.. then I think to myself.. it's probably because no other man would put up with her or do as much as I already do for her.

I'm crying and laughing at the same time! My fiance has ADHD and I'm a bit of a neat freak. He's incredibly creative and talented, so he comes up with fantastic ideas to update the house. He gets these projects to the point where I can visualize how great it's going to look when he's finished, but by that time, he's become bored with it and starts a new project. He juggles all these projects simultaneously, so they're all in various stages of completion. As a result, every room in the house is crammed with tools and supplies needed for each project. I can't even dust or straighten up because I'm not allowed to move anything since he says he won't be able to find anything, which is ironic, since he can't find anything anyway. We rarely entertain because there's nowhere for anyone to sit, but when we're expecting company, he becomes like a whirlwind, boxing up everything so he can temporarily store the tools and all the supplies out on the back patio so I can clean inside. When the visitors leave, he doesn't haul it back in right away, so there's a small window where I can enjoy walking from one room to the next without walking sideways or tripping. No, he waits until he decides to work on project #6 again. Then, despite knowing his supplies are in a box on the patio ... somewhere ... he doesn't have the patience to dig them out. He makes an effort to locate what he needs, but gives up in frustration after a couple of minutes, leaves the house and comes back an hour later with new supplies for that project PLUS a new project he thought of on the way to the hardware store. Rinse and repeat. LOL. He's a mess, but he's my mess.

I don’t really have the hyperactivity part (I’m verbally hyperactive but not really physically hyperactive…I can sit still if I really have to, etc), but every other thing in this video is 100% my life. What my parents and husband have gone through…and it hasn’t been easy for me, either. Please know that ADD (or ADHD w/o hyperactivity) is very real and very debilitating. It is not about phone addiction and people w ADD don’t suck. We’re actually lovely, empathic, funny, smart, and creative. Anyway…other than that, this guy nailed it!!! Very funny!!! 😂😂😂
As an ADHD wife, married to… wait for it… an ADHD guy, I was so blown away by the accuracy of this! This is MY LIFE… doing hundreds things at the same time… and my change of focus collides with his totally opposite change of focus, oh my!!!
I never knew adhd was this tough! My love to all those brave souls who are struggling with this! U are loved no matter what ur condition is and u will find the people who cherish u no matter what❤
Adderall for me, made all these difficulties almost disappear for me. I never wanted to take pills or medicate myself but even a small daily dosage made me feel normal and I could function.
Aw, thank you so much, that's so sweet! I just want to add that there are some things about ADHD that are more fun than this and things which can even serve as advantages and there are also things that are worse than the stuff he mentioned here lol. There's a lot more to it. But that's such a sweet comment, thank you.
@@DIGITAL7MediaI take Ritalin and while it definitely helps I don't feel like I can function like a neurotypical. I do function better though! The funny thing is that I realized that since I never had the type of focus I have when on Ritalin I actually have to learn now how to like, handle it, manage it. At first I was a little frustrated at this realization because I was like great I'm 27 and everyone else probably learned this in their teen years. But now I just find it a bit funny lol.

Every single thing he said about ADHD was correct... except I really have to advocate for us inattentive types, and especially the girls who don't get diagnosed until later in life. I was also one of the "weird" kids in school, but never hyper. I could sit still for hours, in silence, daydreaming about a million different things, and have no idea what the teacher taught that day. It's still ADHD, but the "hyperactive" part is all inside my head.
THANK YOU i took so long to get diagnosed because I was the quiet kid, the bookworm, once even the emo. just cuz I don't externally behave like a pinball game doesn't mean inside isn't the same
Yes this. I felt a little insulted, but it was gone after a few seconds;) hehe. Drew is great so I forgive him :p Im not the H in ADHD. I can get annoyed easily but Im not loud and I am not brutally honest. I mostly keep things to myself if someone annoys me. So ADD, but internal H.
The reason people with ADHD will start a bunch of tasks is because when we see something we know were gonna forget about it if we don't take care of it now, and it kinda just keeps snowballing 😅
Correction: our attention span does not exist unless it's for something like learning about random possum fun facts at three AM or surfing through the net for new hyperfocus supplies

Didn’t read the TH-cam channel name and so got half way through before realising I’d seen the AGT Audition a few hours ago. The difference in stutter is a sign of incredible effort, to the point where it was a mixture of the face and the voice as opposed to the stutter that allowed me to make the connection.
Energy drinks help me a lot with this. Lol. I should probably grow up and go to a doctor to actually get something for it, but I always get distracted before I decide to actually do it.
This is spot-on explaining the true struggle of life with ADHD.. so many people think, “oh yeah, me too, I totally have that…” No, they probably don’t. But you have managed to identify the things she does that make her special and unique and different. I know people get frustrated with me, but when someone is patient and understanding instead of angry and annoyed, it helps me identify where I need to get a grip on my own.
@@kachi9293 yes, those don’t have ADHD may feel that way when someone close to them has AFHD, but those with ADHD absolutely are aware of the predicaments they cause themselves and absolutely feel the struggle as they try to navigate themselves through the day to day. @@kachi9293 Some point to ADHD having a positive natural selection pressure in the past as it would make us better sentries, etc. as we immediately snap to whatever is new or different in the environment. So having a certain percentage of your population with ADHD was an advantage to overall group survival. ADHD is no where near Alzheimers / Dimentia (aka Type 3 diabetes), I have been drug free for over 20 years and having a parent that had Alzheimers I can definitively say even though I can be easily pulled off task it is nowhere near Alzheimers as far as a burden on others. I'm 62, ADHD wasn't something we heard of in those days... All my life I've struggled to be "normal'. I've recently meet a 39 year old social worker. After spending much time together, she suggested that I had ADHD, OCD etc. What a relief, I always come home with rocks, dance to the washing machine and start new projects often. I loved this, made me laugh so much. I feel so happy to be me ❤
My husband and I are both turning 60 this year. He was diagnosed as hyperactive when he was in kindergarten. He was put on Ritalin. His mother asked how long he had to be on it. The doctor said, all his life. My mother-in-law said, "Over my dead body!!" She weaned him off of it and worked with him. She kept him busy to burn off all his energy. Scouts, swimming, baseball etc. As an adult he worked full time, ran a business on the side and was a Youth Pastor and Associate Pastor all at the same time. He also was an avid SCUBA diver and even taught it to others. He never had the attention issues, just the energy.

At this point I’ve lived with me my whole life, I learned to adjust and accept. And try to control. Some OCD stuff. The meds might cause more issues. I took an online test, bingo! ADD
The cleaning part is 100% relatable with me. I have explained this whole process to my husband many times. Just so I can explain why the house is still messy even though I spent the entire day cleaning

May I ask how you found a doctor willing to evaluate you for ADHD? My mom is 67 and no one wants to do it, as if old age makes the symptoms go away. She’s specifically does not want to get medicated, she just wants to KNOW.
@@paloma3248 It's tough to diagnose, because there's no test to definitively prove you do or don't have it. They ask you questions, and if give the same answers and display characteristics that match other people who have been characterized with the disorder, then they will declare that you have the disorder as well. So since there's no medical test, like it's not going to show on an XRAY or brain scan, etc, it's a matter of having very specialized knowledge to be able to correctly identify if the patient has the disorder, so it doesn't surprise me that a lot of doctors would shy away from diagnosing it.
The part where she danced to his stutter is also very ADHD. We are compulsive when we are reminded of something. Often breaking out into song or quotes while someone is talking to us etc.
I have been labeled a walking juke box. Word to music lyric association is sooooo strong for me. My son once asked me, Mom, how many songs do you think you have in there? And my sister and I have had whole conversations using quotes from favorite movies/tv shows, it's a blast!
Just a note from an ADHD-patient: ADD used to be recognized as its own disorder. Nowadays it's known as ADHD inattentive type. Also, the ADHD-kid can actually be the weird emo kid. That was me. I just was great at masking my symptoms, so I only got diagnosed at 25. Also, I am feeling very called out by this video, so thank you for that. 😅
I have ADHD and wasn't diagnosed until college. I have the inattentive type (also called ADD) but all types are now called and diagnosed as ADHD. Because I was quiet, I never got diagnosed until almost 30. The only difference between the hyperactivity type and the inattentive type is one can't sit still. Otherwise, they both have the same symptoms at different degrees of severity.
This is very similar to me. I got diagnosed just before I turned 28. People with the inattentive type often get diagnosed later because the signs aren’t as obvious
Ditto. I didn't get diagnosed until nursing school, because I had never had to study before to get good grades, and suddenly studying for hours at a time was necessary. I aced the nursing boards, I've always excelled at anything that was remotely interesting. (Hated math though.) I have nonetheless felt defective for years because I've always been the "weird" kid, the scatter brain, the "everything is meticulous or it looks like a bomb went off" woman. My sweet husband has ADHD and he asks questions to everyone he comes across. He will ask people the most random things no matter the situation. He does have a hard time remembering certain things, but he always finishes projects. It might take him a while and he gets distracted, but he gets it done. Oddly enough he wasn't hyper as much as a child. Instead the hyperness increased as an adult. He is so smart, talented, and is good at everything he tries (not an exaggeration, he taught himself piano in a few short years, is a great artist at drawing though he just does it for fun, he wins every single game he plays after just trying it a few times, he has a masters degree and knows two languages) but people who don't know him will think he is immature or not very smart because of the way his ADHD makes him come across.
one of the most common responses i get when people find out i have adhd is "but you arent hyper?". they dont realize that adhd doesnt make you hyper, that would be caffeine...
My daughter and I both have adhd and I always tell her “you just have to make it work for you.” If you write lists and keep yourself in line you can function as an adult. I also have autism so being a functioning adult is a real struggle but I’m spending my life trying. If you play your cards right you can really make the “hyper fixation” part of autism and adhd work out and be an actual benefit in life.
@@godw1ll99 hyperactivity is a symptom though. Caffeine isn't the cause of hyperactivity ADHD. In fact there is some evidence caffeine lowers ADHD symptoms albeit less effective than medication.
@@justanotherweirdo11 the hyper active part refers to brain activity not physical energy levels. it is why adhd people have a hard time focusing. medical studies have already acknowledged that there is no causation. meaning, adhd doesnt cause someone to be energetic and being energetic doesnt mean you have adhd. this conclusion comes from the fact that people with adhd can have low energy, neutral energy or high energy. but, they all have hyperactive brains. caffeine affects the brain and how it processes information so as a side affect other than physical energy it may help adhd people to focus better. alternatively nicotine has a similar affect as well but without the physical energy part. the key part in all of these is that they are all stimulants, same as the medically prescribed alternatives.

As someone with adhd the highest compliment i can give this comedian is that i have watched an entire 15 minute video not once but twice

restraint is still a choice when you have ADHD btw, acting like that is a choice you choose to make. its the same with emotions, you dont control what emotions you feel but that doesnt mean your emotions control you and how you act.
BTW I am ADHD and have the full set of symptoms with caffeine paradoxical reaction and was diagnosed when it was still HADD in the DSM, so not one of the trendy over-diagnosed.
How do I reach out to him? Is he on insta

By the way, International Squirrel Appreciation Day is the 21st of January. Eat some nuts and pass them out.

It just hit me why folks think I'm weird?
Just learn to play Candyland and you'll unlock all the mysteries to the ADHD-er's mind. 🍬🗺

omg is no one gonna talk about how far drew has come he barely stutters its incrediable man . i have chronic depression loved the video i finally laughed again
Oh my goodness I'm sorry for laughing so hard at this I may go to hell but this scenario vividly played in my head

I was Dx with ADHD late in life, explained a lot of what I lived through. What helped me survive was over organizing things, habit learned in part as a kid, perfected in the Army. People disturbing me while I’m trying to stay on task with little add-ons drives me nuts. Wife does it all the time. She is the one that puts or has someone put things into a place with a door, room, closet, cabinet, etc. and because it can’t be seen, the room has been cleaned up. Never-mind that you can’t access anything that is behind the door. Things that drive ADHD folks nuts.
Oh dear. Doorways.
That’s where the thoughts go.
I was diagnosed with ADD - not ADHD - by a psychiatrist (not by myself) before smart phones were invented (and before the majority of us had any kind of non-land line phone at all). I’ve been taking Adderall for it for almost 30 years. They used to be diagnosed as 2 separate things…ADD and ADHD. Now it’s just ADHD with hyperactivity or ADHD without hyperactivity. 😂😂😂

Adderall for me, made all these difficulties almost disappear for me. I never wanted to take pills or medicate myself but even a small daily dosage made me feel normal and I could function.
Yeah, and it’s hard to be diagnosed with if you aren’t white or a male.
Bless you and thank you! ❤ thank God we also usually have a great sense of humor so we can process things somehow 😂
The progress he's made on his stutter since being on AGT is incredible! I almost didn't remember he had one until going back to his first AGT.
Notice he doesn’t poke fun at stutteriers
@@laurieoberg5506 Very true; I have yet to hear him do that. He probably never will, he knows firsthand what it's like. I used to have a pretty significant stutter as well, when I was young, just to a lesser extent, and I also got over it later in life.
Oooh, that's where I know his name from! Wow, he's completely stutter-free now!
Probably made the stutter up for sympathy points

As much as i feel attacked on a personal level.... I was SCREAMING laughing through the cleaning the living room to the kitchen bit. 🤣
The detective/murderer combo…
I said the same, like oh no its over, once you move in any direction away from the focus at the time lol.
@@TheDrewLynch on fucking point lmao. Late diagnosis here 🙋♂️
As someone with ADHD and autism, with a girlfriend (who if we wanted marriage would be my wife) who is also autistic, and this is sooooo spot on. Life is sweet beautiful chaotic love. Great standup Drew. The best 45 mins spent watching a 15 minute video while crying in laughter.
Why don't you want to get married?
@@tarabithia4509 Great question. We just agreed we love each other and do not need the financial and legal ties to live our lives together, or to feel closer as a couple, or to know we love one another. We are just happy together, forever.
THANK YOU
i took so long to get diagnosed because I was the quiet kid, the bookworm, once even the emo. just cuz I don't externally behave like a pinball game doesn't mean inside isn't the same
Yes this. I felt a little insulted, but it was gone after a few seconds;) hehe. Drew is great so I forgive him :p
Im not the H in ADHD. I can get annoyed easily but Im not loud and I am not brutally honest. I mostly keep things to myself if someone annoys me. So ADD, but internal H.
Me too 😊
Same here, so calm ,shy, but my brain has an other world full of action😅
Yeeesssss!!!!
The reason people with ADHD will start a bunch of tasks is because when we see something we know were gonna forget about it if we don't take care of it now, and it kinda just keeps snowballing 😅
Omg, yes!
As someone who has adhd, this is not exaggerated. Our attention span does not exist and our memory just decides to leave every now and then.
We see everything but remember little.
Yes! I am not sure if my memory is worse, or I just notice and worry about it more now that I am older.
Correction: our attention span does not exist unless it's for something like learning about random possum fun facts at three AM or surfing through the net for new hyperfocus supplies
@@magdam1508 i agree. I know a-lot of shit that know one else cares to know. But it makes me happy.
this woman is living her BEST FRIKEN LIFE!!!!!!! As a woman with ADHD I wish I could live this life with a husband who can laugh with her rather than at her.
O my god yes. I realized that hiring cleaners is cheaper than marriage counseling.
As someone also married to a wife with ADHD this hits SO close to home I couldn't stop laughing the whole time
True story
I’m going to start a support group for us
As an ADHD wife I have never felt so heard and understood 😂
A little too close to home. 😅
I am the ADHD wife and as soon as you said projects unfinished I immediately sent it to my husband because I knew I would forget if I didn't do it right then. I've already started my living room cleaning, but was watching videos. Time to clean the kitchen. 😂😂😂 And I have rocks too, and art projects everywhere. **For all the men that love us- we are sorry, and thank you. But at least you will never get bored!❤**
Didn’t read the TH-cam channel name and so got half way through before realising I’d seen the AGT Audition a few hours ago.
The difference in stutter is a sign of incredible effort, to the point where it was a mixture of the face and the voice as opposed to the stutter that allowed me to make the connection.
I felt this on a personal level, this is my whole life. I feel bad for my girlfriend and my family.
I seriously said this as well XD
We still very much appreciate you 😂
@metallichmb They love you.👍🏽
Same. I'm a male version of your wife, my actions are identical but my projects center around mechanical things vs arts and crafts.
They may seem to be living in ignorant bliss to some at times, but if you think they don’t experience struggle, you are the ignorant one.
Your comparing Alzheimers to ADHD, is like comparing Rabies to being Drunk.

Almost had me in tears it was so relatable. Great work
I actually was in tears. Started from the laughter. Switched to relating to the struggle and how it negatively impacts those around us. Did that flip flop a couple of times.

@@tessmoore3762 Good on her for being accepting of him and teaching him to use it as a gift! If only I could accomplish that many different things all at once.

I can relate. 65. Different all my life. Never diagnoses. Never heard of it growing up. Now as adult people ask me if I have it. Even my grief counselor.
When he started talking about distractions, squirrel rescues and rocks. I was like wait a minute....am I your wife?! 😂lol she sounds awesome by the way I would totally love to hang out with her. We could continue to make popsicles stick ladders to save the squirrels even if it means sacrificing every single shoe in his house. I'm in!
To us (ADHD-ers) it’s a completely normal thought process lol but to hear it from someone else’s point of view then I am dying laughing 🤣
I am constantly reminded my brain does not work in a manner that makes sense. It is frustrating for me, even when I know to make allowances for myself. It was, however, such a relief to get diagnosed.
Oh man, then having to explain the context of everything, lol

May I ask how you found a doctor willing to evaluate you for ADHD? My mom is 67 and no one wants to do it, as if old age makes the symptoms go away. She’s specifically does not want to get medicated, she just wants to KNOW.
I was late bloomer diagnosis as well Life changing isn't it!
Yes
Lol yes!,undiagnosed here, but this is exactly how I clean. It's exhausting 😂
(my brain) For once I stood speechless for a few seconds as it dawned on me there must be thousands.

@@mamadoom9724I feel the struggle of ADHD and autism. It really makes life so much more difficult than it really needs to be.
