I'm in my 80s now, retired, happily living alone in the USA. Back when I was in my 20s, I was with a few friends and an older gent. We were talking about getting a GF, getting married, having kids, and all that responsibility. We asked the older gent what he thought was the best way to live.
He thought for a moment, then asked us why we wanted to get married.
Most of us said 3 things: regular sex, kids with family life, and regular 3 meals a day prepared by our wives.
The old gent thought for a moment as he looked at each of us. Then he said:
"Well, as for the kids and 3 meals a day, you could probably come up with some sort of alternative plan and lifestyle. But as far as the regular sex is concerned, the f-----g you get isn't worth the f-----g you're gonna' get."

I’ve been married to my Filipina wife 15 years and we about the same age. We still live in the states as we are still fairly young (40s). Im buying a condo in Cebu but she is paying 100% for a land and house to be built in the province. I won’t pay for any of it. Im also keeping our house in the USA as a fall back. It seems so many expat videos I watch are guys making rash decisions with no planning or thought.

Before that even. Single mother? RUN. TWO or more kids? RUN FASTER. Either SHE is low value because her husband (or husband and boyfriend or two boyfriends) ran from her, or, she chooses low value men. (While it's not great for a man's ego to discover it's the latter, he still should.) Oh and she didn't change. He just never really saw her. Which also means, if he still thinks it was her that "changed", that it wasn't his inability to pinpoint high value women, then he won't "see" the next one coming either.
The second mistake was that she was poor. He even says it himself - living in a pig pen. So she never had her Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs met, which means all her decisions until that point were based on securing the next meal and money. It in was in that learned state she chose him. And he met both of those, food and money, so of course all seemed happy at first. But once that was secured and behind her, it was time to monkey branch, move up a rung and meet the other needs (or just more of the same lower ones, like more $).
Like most of these low-value women who clueless foreign men deliberately seek out ("I'll 'save' her from poverty so she'll stay with me forever because she's grateful and will feel like she owes me"), once she realized she could take most of everything for herself and use her crotch trench to suck the next foreigner into, she was off like a rabbit from a bald greyhound - after a period of growing to first resent, then hate him of course, to justify her cheating - which he has mentioned, but you can just bet she blames HIM for.
What he should have done about the house was threaten to have her and her boyfriend charged with adultery (he used the words "boyfriend" and "bang my wife" and "apply for a divorce") unless she agrees within 30 days to sign paperwork so x% of the money for the house sale goes to him upon sale - and that happens in such a way (through paperwork at time of sale) that she never gets access to the full amount - that the bank or purchaser pays each of them their agreed portion.
And for those who will say, "But punishing her punishes the kids..." that's the same simp behavior that caused this situation in the first place AND you can guarantee (low value woman that she is) she's going to raise those kids lying about him, accusing, rubbishing for years - so when they're adults they'll hate hit guts anyway. Not only that, if she goes to jail (and remember, that's only if she's dumb enough not to sign - no Filipina wants to go to a Philippines jail), the kids would go to some aunt until she's out anyway. Of course this assumes the house is actually worth something too. If it's the typical hollow block hovel foreigners build (like old uncle Pedal FIle Jessie) then it probably isn't worth bothering over. Even so I'd still want her in jail. Consider it a much-needed life lesson for her not to be a shitty, low-value person.
I'm typing while still listening... His main lesson after being asked for advice to other men is to get a prenup!? LOL. This guy still doesn't have a clue that he's not just 50% responsible for this happening, but coming from the west, with a better education, better and mature life skills (should have had anyway), and resources (internet) to learn what went wrong, etc - he still doesn't get it. He says he "has a few close friends" (obviously he means superficial friends with sexual benefits). He seems still oblivious to what happened so It's probably best he sticks to that the rest of his life.
"It wasn't a care of the greedy Filipina trying to get the foreigner." Uh, yeah - it was. She just didn't know it herself yet. Did she plan that from day one? No, but it 99% GUARANTEED it would naturally flow into that by the type of woman he chose. He missed his best friend? She was never his best friend. HE is projecting that false impression upon her. She was/is INCAPABLE of having felt the same, evidenced by her stealing from her own friends and church and by getting a boyfriend soon after kicking him out, instead of a time of regret and introspection a person with scruples would go through. (In fact given all her red flags and low-value behaviors it's a safe bet she was screwing the boyfriend (if not multiple other guys) well before inviting him to leave. (You don't willingly turn off one money tap until you've turned on a second one.)
And guys, don't take back a 304 who not only did all this, but was on her back 5 minutes after you closed the door, and then says she wants you back. She only wants you back for one of two reasons: a) Because the new boyfriend won't put up with the same BS you did and have indicated you would again, or b) To finish the hit man plan.

I have many stories of friends, family and coworkers including me who had GF or wife CHANGE OVER TIME. Breakup or divorce are pretty common. I asked my marriage counselor before my divorce what are the odds of a truly HAPPY long term marriage. She said around 10% to 15% are really happy or have only minor marriage problems. Another 30% to 35% have problems and need counseling and/or are truly UNHAPPY. The remaining percentage end in divorce. Even if you love each other in the beginning the SAD reality is TIME is not your friend and the odds are NOT in your favor.

Never buy a house unless you can afford to lose it or are in a super long term relationship (10-20+ years) especially an age gap one. The only way is to protect yourself; a prenup then incorporate and have a company and then have a lease as it is ALL Business but so often guys DON'T think and let their heart or little head rule them. Even Marriage is a Business and the problem is as a foreigner your the "outsider" so treat it as such otherwise you are the Fool in the saying. As the house isn't finished it will be hard to sell. As in Any divorce "Everyone Loses" and both sides will have hurt feelings and the problem could be another tree comes down on the house or something similar

If the property is not on your name, then it's not yours, and you are more likely to get kicked out of the house. If you're renting you're safest.

Everyone knows that foreigners can’t own land in the Philippines. That being said, any house or land is going to be in the Filipinos name. The only thing that you can do is to have a 25 year lease on the land/property that will give you some rights or buy a condo that CAN be put into your name. You can hire a lawyer to draw up your lease agreement or to make sure that the title is good if you buy a condo.

The moral of the story is never invest more than you are willing to walk away from. A separation is one of many things that can happen, and you may need to bug out. Renting is so cheap in the philippines, and if a natural disaster occurs, then you can just pack and move on. A condominium is an option, but then you have money tied up that you can use for your retirement. Thinking that your going to take care of your wife after your gone is honorable but if you don't live close to her family then she will probably sell the house and move in with them or her children. Survivors' benefits can apply if your marriage is recognized by the United States. As far as yourself, you come first as this is your retirement, and they are better off for being in your life.

Guys why do you keep falling for single mothers, dating a single mother is like being asked to clean up at a party you were never invited to. You have to ask yourself, why are they single, why did her last man leave her. If they (her and the family) ever ask you for money, ask them how they plan on paying you back, are they going to work for it, tell her from day 1 that you are not a charity.

Different Expats, similar stories. Some are just fools and suckers. Some have a really big heart and want to help others. The problem is that men need to know how to protect themselves and safeguard all finances or investments. The Filipina is coached by older filipinas in her family, they know that the older expat is in the Philippines because they can't get what they want from women in their own country. It's not complicated folks, do your homework and don't be desperate

Hello✋🏼🖐🏽! We hope that he has learned from this experience because this is a scam that is being done all over the globe, right down to the personality and attitude change after 4-5 years. They do this personality change in order to try to provoke the spouse to divorce or abandon them after they have used the person for financial gain and lifestyle elevation. This also often involves other acquaintances who will claim that there is money owed in order to cash in on taking advantage of their victim. We hope he has learned from this experience and proceeds with caution with regards to his previous wife and any future relationships while living abroad. Our ex son-in-law from the DR pulled this trick on our daughter. Peace be with you ✝️❤️

By the law, it's already conjugal property. And should be divided into two for both couple's shares. In the Philippines, there is unwritten rule regarding property owned by the couple. Usually, if the property is given by the parents or relatives of the woman's side, we acknowledge and respect that she owns it. Same case for man's side.
