I missed the Philippines lifestyle and its just two more years then im going to live in the Philippines I will just pay the electric and water and foods thats all

    As a Filipino, our monthly expenses averages between $550 to $650, but we are able to live comfortably. Our home is equipped with full air conditioning and we have access to fiber internet. Despite working from home, I am still able to provide support for my parents. The local wet and dry markets in my area offer affordable prices, allowing us to consume fish and meat on a daily basis. Although we don't dine out often, I believe that restaurants are often overrated as my mother's cooking is just as good, if not better, than some of the restaurants in Metro Manila.. hahaha

      Sorry, but that's not the American dream. The American dream is NOT to move out of the USA to another country in order to be able to afford living and housing.
      The ACTUAL American dream is to be able to have these types of expenses WITHIN the United States of America to able to live and have that American Dream.
      And yes I am American, I am Native American Indian aka Indigenous of USA. My ancestors tried to teach this to the people who came to the USA.
      But instead they invaded and raped and killed my ancestors and turned this country into an unaffordable country, that ravished this country with extremely expensive housing,
      that are now forcing American Citizens out of the USA, in order to be able to afford housing, marriage and proper living. Just saying 🤷‍♀

    Excellent video from someone who has obviously done extensive research on all aspects of living in Cebu and the varying costs there. I live in rural Cebu and have been here for many years and being Scottish, I have probably followed a somewhat more 'Careful' approach to expenditure so that being said, I hope no one objects to me saying that I live very healthily with my GF and my 12 year old son on around $150 ( US Dollars) a week, easily. Our house and 600 square meters of land is costing just under $15,000. My son who has a Philippine mother will get the land in his name when he is 18 so I have 6 years to pay off the balance. I'm not sure if this helps anyone but I hope it does. Many thanks for allowing my post and take care. Ian

    Great video, the information provided is very helpful. Your opening comment about the 3 factors to consider is very true, especially planning/preparation. There are plenty of examples of monthly cost of living videos out there, but not much in the way of "start up costs" .....what one may spend to get settled in once they have arrived. Just like your cost breakdowns, the figures can be all over the place (renting vs buying for accommodation, transportation, etc.).

Learning something for the first time involves lots of mistakes so make sure you have an adequate allowance for the learning costs. Also it might be wise to realize most things in life are not so green on the other side of the fence as you believed they were.

    Great presentation! I always add the total cost of my house if I paid cash divided by the years as if financed into my monthly budget to get a true monthly cost. Very few expats can pay cash to build their dream retirement home. Housing here is more often than not either stagnant or a loss due to several factors. Housing here also does not appreciate as it does in the US, raw land does in the right locations however foreigners cannot own land. Having no intention of eking by in my limited retirement years I’m the retiree that spends for comfort. Believe me when I say, comfort cost a lot here, at the high side or more of the chart shown. Reality is it will always cost more than you think, plan for $$$, but expect $$$$$ sometimes.

    Hey Cory, nice breakdown and comparison. If I could offer a suggestion, when you're giving averages, you can also include the median which will give you a more balanced idea of what people's costs have been. Then you don't have to add caveats about what all kinds of people are saying outside that average - that way people can see the spread (might need to show it graphically, but it makes sense). Just a thought.

    Thank you Cory and Rachel for honestly presenting a realistic budget plan. ITs very helpful to see and understand a real budget and real spending habits and how that spending actually matches the budget. I am in my early 60's and looking to retire in the Philippines soon useing mostly SS and savings. It looks to me that living in the Provence is the way to go for several reasons. First its less expensive, second I prefer the country, mountains or beach and NOT a city or major town. I also like the idea of useing solar and having my own food, fruits and vegetable garden as well as chickens for meat and eggs sounds.
    Where do you get your water? Do you use rain water, or get from a stream or river, or have it directly plumbed to the house via a well system? And what about sewage, do you use a septic tank or do you have direct access to a sewer line? Also, are you outside of Dumaguete in the mountains or country? Meaning, you seem to have a realy nice clean and large home, clean property, and are thriving very well. Is the internet well enough for watching videos and uploading your TH-cam channel? DO you think you will get a Starlink package and start useing that for internet and web phone access?
    SOme have told me that the advantage you and they have is by having a Filipina wife or girlfriend, that she is able to find the good deals, good people to do thiongs for you, and that she knows where to stay away from. But, one should never rush into a relationship there as they can use you and suck you dry of all your money. SO its a balance, have to take time to get to know somone and then find the right place like yours. Still, would like to not waste years looking and then never get the right home and lifestyle I dream about. I feel a wife or girlfriend is NOPT absolutely necessary to fulfill that dream, but its very nice to have a companion and not be alone of course.
    Love your videos and look forward to learning as much as I can over the next year or so before making any final decisions. God Bless you both and keep smile'n! (Yes, that means Rachel can keep laughing and doing funny things, its part of her adorable personality that we all love)

      We have fiber at the house, so for what I’m paying I’m very happy with having unlimited fast Internet. The water, comes from a while that we had dug through a holding tank that we made. We do have town water hooked up for emergency, but rarely use it are drinking water comes from large bottles but they cost me 20 piece or less when I buy them in bulk.

    November 2019 we travelled to the Philippines to visit my family in Mindanao and we also owned a house there, (where I was born and raised) hubby wasn't comfortable staying in Mindanao, so we traveled to Clark then the pandemic came and we can't leave going back to the US, so we indeed up staying around Clark for about 2 years. We rented a house which we paid $800 a month, car payment was 34,464 plus light and water and internet. So our budget every month around $2k a month including food. During the pandemic no one was allowed to go out to eat, so I cooked every meal. That saved us quite a bit. We were renting 4 bedroom house in a gated community that's why our rent was high. We lived comfortably.

    • @ItsMe_Philippines
      @ItsMe_Philippines  ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense and sounds about right. There are some areas down on that island that are not as safe as people say they are. Prices are also higher in Clark especially when you add in a gated community.

    I’ve watched many of your videos as I find them very informative. We have land in a gated community in CDO Mindanao. We’re planning to build our house in the next few years. Unfortunately we’re still 5-10 years away from retirement. As we get closer to building I’ll have to rewatch your house building and solar videos. Your monthly estimates seem to be spot on. When I move there I have to remember to live more like a Filipino and less like an American 😂. My girlfriend has been living in the United States for over 30 years (originally from Pagadian City)so I think that she’s going to have a more difficult time adjusting to living there than I will 😂. Keep up the great videos!

She’s going to have trouble with the slower pace of life. In California we move at a fairly quick pace. In the Filipino provinces life, as you know, moves at a slow pace. She’s also going to have trouble with the heat and Filipino Time (people always late) as she’s very punctual. I love warm weather and just wear shorts and a t-shirt everywhere I go.

I was dropped off at City Hall by Grab ride share..Of course the tourism center in the city park said the base was open and you could visit the old fort on base....Not the case...Needless to say my few block, 20 peso, ride by Tricycle was for not! The ride resulted in a very confused gate guard leading me to his JOOD who was not happy an tourist was attempting to visit. At the end of my visit to Cavite, I was a little surprised grab will drop you off in the city but no drivers want to pick up anyone! I had to take a trike from city hall to the bus station and take a bus to PITX. A bit of an adventure.

    Merry Christmas! Thanks once again for posting another entertaining and educational video. I think one of the advantages to living here versus the US is it seems to be much more within your power to effectively control the cost of living because there are realistic cost saving options available or at least for me there have been. Recognizing that determining the types of changes to personal spending habits that will be necessary after relocating and having a documented plan are the keys for success as you have skillfully pointed out. For me personally what has helped with navigating through the streets of Dumaguete in my own vehicle and the parking is my wife's brother who is a native of this area and has far more experience with driving here has become the full time designated driver. I've witnessed a couple of near miss accidents in the city and every time at least one foreigner was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles. The primary advantage of having my wife's brother driving our pickup is if parking is difficult he just stays behind the wheel and either looks elsewhere to find a parking space or drives around until we're ready to move on. The other thing I was curious about is property tax. I understand it's not going to be a monthly payment but if you are planning on saving around 8-10% of the cost each month it could become a line item within an individual budget plan. Like a number of other things the home ownership experience and the property tax assessment in particular here was much different from when you have a mortgage in the USA and I'm sure that won't be a surprise to anyone. If details about your individual tax situation were left out purposely you are obviously not obligated in any way to share and by doing so it won't hurt my feelings. Happy holidays everyone!!

    • @ItsMe_Philippines
      @ItsMe_Philippines  ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd, if the property tax here added up to anything over $100 I would put it in. The last five year total came to $82 so that equals $16.40 per year and $1.36 a month.

    • @boise2Talay7886
      @boise2Talay7886 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItsMe_Philippines thanks for clarifying and that totally makes sense. I wish mine was that low but it's quite a bit more and something that needs to be included in my budget planning. I can only guess it's due to differences in the assessed value of the property and maybe along with being in close proximity to the city. I did find it interesting that my annual property tax bills in Idaho would arrive by mail with the county assessors name on them but I never met the guy or anyone else from the office in person. I've had 3 direct interactions with a team of property tax assessors here at my house in Dumaguete even though I've only been here for less than 6 months. Like most everyone else I've met here so far, they are extremely nice people.
