  • Hey everyone! Welcome back to my channel! Today, I’m super excited to guide you through a fun and easy project: the Jelly Roll Picnic Patchwork Quilt. This tutorial is perfect for beginners and will take you step-by-step through the entire process, including all the measurements and instructions you need to create your own beautiful quilt. Grab your jelly rolls, and let’s get started on this delightful picnic patchwork quilt together!
    Finished Quilt Size will be 70x70
    Sew all seams using a scant 1/4" seam allowance.
    Fabric Requirements
    1 Jelly Roll (or 42- 2.5" x 42" strips)
    1.5 yards of sashing fabric (white)
    1.5 yards of border fabric(blue in mine)
    5/8 yard of binding fabric
    4 yards of backing/batting
    Prepare fabric- starch if you choose to.
    Separate into groups of four strips and sew together along the long sides.
    Cut each strip set into (5) 8-1/4" x 8-1/4" squares. Make 40.
    Sashing:
    Cut (20) 2 x WOF strips.
    Cut (30) 2 x 8-1/4 strips.
    Sew the remaining 2" strips end to end.
    Borders:
    Cut (8) 6-1/2 x WOF strips. Sew 2 strips end to end for each side.

    A little tip I found - before you open your jelly roll with pinked edges, run a lint roller over both sides of the roll. It picks up quite a bit of the lint.

      Thank you! I have the kids take them outside and shake them, and bonus it gets some energy out too:)

    Consider using those extra blocks in a storage bag for the quilt. I started doing that for my quilts.

    Will it shrink if you starch them? Just watched a video that showed with the 5 inch squares they shrunk 1/8th inch. Thank you.

    • @pickinstitches

      Yes!! So be careful! The stach is worth it if you cansqueeze it in.

      Sweet Liberty - Moda. I was sad that it did not have more red, but once it was assembled the colors look great!!

    • @pickinstitches

      Right! But the finished quilt has enough red, however I was worries:)

    What’s the purpose of starching?

    • @pickinstitches

      Only helps to keep the fabric from stretching if tugged on to rough.

    • @bitsnharry

      Also makes it easier to cut if it has some stiffness to it!

    • @elizabethwilliams3267

      Also helps to stop fraying...

    • @pickinstitches

      Yes, especially multiple layers!
