@@kkamareactsI think the book would be ok for high schoolers but not for little kids who would find it not just gross, but boring. I will say the Broadway score gets better each time you hear it. I didn’t love it the first time I heard it, but I did the second. I feel like the opening song is really the finale, and then the rest is a flashback, but they wanted the audience to leave after the upbeat finale ‘For Good’ There’s a scene in the musical with a small song where Bok tells Nessa he loves Glinda, and Nessa accuses him of being heartless, and grabs Elphie’s spell book and turn’s Bok into the tin man. In the same scene, Elphie gives Nessa the shoes that let her walk. Also when Elphie is casting that spell to protect Fyero, “let no sword or spear be able to help him”, she turns him into the Scarecrow (who can only be hurt by fire)
@@RLucas3000 Thank you for your perspective! The book definitely has a lot of layers and ambiguity, which I think makes it more suited for older readers who can appreciate its complexities...and understand the *risqueʻ* scenes as well lol The way it ties into The Wizard of Oz is so interesting, especially with how it reimagines the backstories of the characters. I look forward to seeing the film though!
I love Thank Goodness, mainly because the entire thing is Glinda trying to convince herself that she’s happy even though all she can think about is how much she misses Elphaba. This song is made purely through the acting because Kristin sells how hollow all of this feels to Glinda. She should be happy, she got everything she wanted. But she’s not. “Happy is what happens when all your dreams come true. Well… isn’t it?” Honestly this song is the lynchpin of why I find Glinda so fascinating as a character. I’m also just a sucker for the “you got what you wanted but lost what you had” type of story beats.
Wow, I'm super impressed by the amount of research you're doing to go into this movie! I wanted to note a couple of things so you can adjust your expectations. The musical is LOOSELY based on the novel. The creators of the musical got Maguire's blessing, but very much did their own thing with it. (But if you really like the book, there's a whole series and spin-off series.) Most of the adult content was cut from the show, and the movie is PG. The other thing, because they haven't been marketing it this way at all, is that the movie is just the play's first act, ending with Defying Gravity. The 2nd part is coming out next year. But, in my opinion, the movie is a really good time and well worth seeing (maybe even more than once)!
I just finished the book last night and the author really does leave a lot of room for the readers to interpret and make their own conclusions for sure. Definitely ambiguous but not at all a bad read!
Dancing Through Life is a sequence of scenes. It's mostly Fiyero, then the part where Boq is trying to ask out Glinda and she directs him to Nessa instead so she can hang out with Fiyero, etc. Then the whole dancing at the Oz dust scene - it's a whole thing. As for Boq and Fiyero... I mean... I don't know if you've gotten far enough into the book to realize how they tie into The Wizard of Oz but there is some hidden meaning behind some of the lines 'brainless' and 'heartless' being tossed around 👀
It also might have been a customer who decided they don't want the book. Most people put the book exactly where they got it. If you're making recommendations of 5 or 6 books for a friend to read, a chance of misplacing the book can occur if the person doesn't want it. It's like a "Hurry up. We need to check out now.'
Bruh i will not stand for this Dancing Through Life slander 😂 (It's definitely one that requires visuals to have the full effect, though, and dialogue-heavy musical numbers aren't everyone's cup of tea, so it's fair that you're not a fan)
For context before no good deed theres another song not on the sound track called wicked witch of the east in which nessa almost kills boq and elphaba accidentally turns him into the tinman to save his life but nessa blames it on elphaba and he is the one who sings in the witch hunter song
Dancing Through Life is kind of amazing from a storytelling perspective. In that 7 minutes you get Fiyero’s introduction, Galinda/Fiyero relationship established, Nessa Rose/Boq established, and Galinda/Elphaba going from enemies to friends. In 7 minutes! And there is lots of fun stuff happening during it - dancing and costumes, etc. Also - this musical has really little to do with the book - mostly just the names and the perspective it is told from to be honest. 😂 Excited to hear what you think of the movie!
Honestly, we know from the Wizard of Oz that the wizard kinda sucks. Especially the original Oz books. Like, he fully took over Oz, deposed the king and sent the princess into exile to live with the Wicked Witch of the North
When you whipped out the book i felt so bad for you💀 all the people that have been mislead into reading gregory maguires insanity because of the musical. It just makes me so happy that Steve shwartz or whatever hes named his storyline is the one widely recognized by the community cause its much less sad and weird
To be fair, i also hate/always skip Dancing through Life when listening to the soundtrack, but the movie did a REALLY good job with the staging, to the point it was one of my favorite parts of the movie bc it was so visually appealing, so fingers crossed you'll feel the same way!
I have to strongly disagree, norbert is by far the best fiero to date (everyone else does great but he's just extra amazing) his voice makes the song. The staging in the musical makes it look dumb and im happy they changed it in the movie but it's no were near a bad song there are far worse songs in this musical alone
Firstly, let me say, my intent is strictly to be helpful and not to be critical at all. That's a directional mic, so it's made to pick up sound primarily from one direction while reducing noise and unwanted sound from other directions and isolate your voice. This is why your audio seems to come in and out when you twist it to where your voice is coming from the side or back 16:39. These features (in additional to general quality) are what you're paying for when you buy a decent recording mic but if you don't know how it works, it can work against you. On a Blue Yeti microphone, the "front" side is opposite to the side with the knobs - this is where you should speak from when recording. And it's a side-address microphone, meaning you speak into the side (not the top) of the mic. So, you'd want to position it out in front you with the knob toward the camera to best pick up your voice. There is also an "omnidirectional" mode on that mic which would pick up your voice from all sides (but speaking into the top would still not be optimal). However, if you use the mic in _omnidirectional mode_ it will pick up all sound better and not isolate your voice the way the default mode (cardioid mode) does. I hope that's helpful. I record a podcast with the same mic and I figure if you're not a recording nerd or if you haven't run into audio trouble and figured it out, you'd have no reason to know any of that.
The book and play are both very different especially about maturity and also detailed information about their lives. A lot of wich had to be cut out for time.
Normally I'm the biggest proponent of 'the book is better', but Wicked is a HUGE exception in that the musical (and now movie) is SO far superior to the book in terms of story and characters. Sheesh the thought of kids reading the book after seeing the movie....X.x;;

It's long but it conveys a good set up to the story. And getting annoyed at a song for having a repetitive lyric is kind of silly because...they tend to.
