This is the song. Everyone thinks defying gravity is the theme song but this is the one that captures the entire feeling of the show and the relationship of the characters.
The line that guts me every time: "It well may be that we will never meet again in this lifetime." It wrecks me. My partner of 20 years, Michael, and I had tickets to see this show on Broadway in December of 2008. At the end of November, he suddenly got very ill, and were unable to travel to NYC to see the show. I gave the tix to my cousin and her sister in law (they had a blast). On January 1 of 2009, Michael went into ICU and never came out. He passed on March 3rd from lymphoma. The following year I finally got to see the show when it came to San Diego. I bawled my eyes out when they performed this song, thinking about Michael, especially when Elphaba sings the line I mentioned. It just resonates with me that we never know when might be the last time we'll be with someone. He would have loved this show. Now, every time I see Wicked (six times and counting), and every time I hear this song, I think of him ... and yes, I cry, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. LOL ... Stephen Schwartz is a genius.
Sorry this comment is from 7 months ago but if you haven't seen the Tiny Desk concert you should, Stephen Schwartz talks about how he wrote this song and its beautiful
I know I am late to this video and haven’t read all the comments, but I want to point something out. At about 4:35, when they sing that they’ve been changed for the better, the harmony shifts. The entire musical, when these two harmonized, Elphaba went low and Glinda went high. Here, they switch.
Great reaction. Defying gravity is the show stopper, but this song is what the play is about. I love the double meaning of "for good" - for the better and also forever
@@TeaTimeWithTravis There was a version knocking around of the last time they (Kristin and Idina) sang it together. It's even more powerful if that's possible...
The song is beautiful, these voices are sublime, but it's the meaning behind the words that make this song so powerful. How we treat others, whether it's a single encounter or a relationship of any kind, can change a person's life or even the course of history. Makes you think about those who have impacted your life even by a single comment and especially love those who made a big impact and feel sorrow if they are no longer in your life. It also makes you reflect on how you have treated others and wonder how much you might have changed them not for the better but possibly for good.
This is one of my favorites. We have seen the show 17 times and this is where I always cry. We went on the 10th anniversary cruise 10 years ago and met cast members and again they sang this and I cried
I love the meaning of them switching harmonies lines showing they truly have changed eachother embodied musically as glinda did the high harmony for the rest of the show and elephants was on the bottom but for this number they switched
I needed this reaction today, so thank you! I've been super emotional and I checked out your reaction knowing what was going to happen as I listened to this song - I needed to feel that with someone else! Great reaction as always!
This song is just glorious. I've had the privilege of seeing this musical twice and I'm hoping to go again soon. It's my favourite! Your reaction was so moving and I really thank you for reacting to this. I reckon you'd love the live musical too (sorry I don't know if you've seen it). But I can't recommend it enough if you ever visit the UK!
I was blessed enough to see the original cast with Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, who had actually broke her leg and a dress rehearsal. So I actually got to see Kristin Chenoweth and Eden Espinosa. Which was absolutely majestic! This is a magical musical! Great REAL RAW reaction!
I love you Travis! You are so good. You bring me so much joy. You are insightful, sensitive, interesting and empathetic. I need you to know that you are special, unique, worthy, valuable and unrepeatable! Travis, you are Enough. Just as you are.
I’ve seen Wicked 3x in person and it gets better every time! I have met so many people that have changed me for both good and bad. Like you said, not everyone is a positive influence. I do my best to be. Wonderful reaction!! ❤
I saw this musical in San Francisco when it had its world premiere pre-broadway with the original cast and I knew then it would be a smash. And this song tears my heart out for so many reasons
I love this show and have seen it multiple (multiple, multiple) times. This is truly a song that hits my heart and I have sent it to several friends over the years as a "this is you and me" song. Because they each changed me in different ways, fill different roles and have done life with me in "our" way. This is a glorious song. These two ladies ... whoof. Adore them! You MUST see this. No choice. Next time it comes near you, just go. Get a ticket by yourself and go to the Wednesday matinee. (And then go back on Saturday night.)
This is top 3 musicals. And one of my favorite all time songs. My aunt passed away 7 years and she was my BEST friend in the whole world and I have since dedicated this song to her and cry (or get emotional) every time second verse starts.
I know that your friendship is very important to me . Even though I am just a random guy inside the cyber universe you always find time for me to send me at least a heart or an ok sign. You have no idea how much that means to me.. So you know... Love you señor! (No subtitles? Hard to understand for me.) Love the song though.
This musical is amazing and it's amazing how elphaba is looked at as the wicked witch when really she is the good witch and glinda is the bad one. I've always loved elphaba.
If you ever get the chance to see Wicked, GO! I've seen it 3 times and it is absolutely spectacular. Super excited (and a tad nervous) for the movie later this year.
People wouldn't really define this as a "love song", but imo, it's the most loving song I've ever heard, and it hits me way harder than any romantic ballad ever could. I cry every time I listen to it, and it's just...so spectacularly moving. Absolutely love that this hit you in the same way, and I loved the reaction! I hope you get the chance to see Wicked someday, bc obvs this song gets even more meaningful w/ the proper context, as Elphaba and Glinda's relationship is obvs the heart of the whole show, and so many of the other songs contain at least a little part that deepens their relationship, so by the time you get to this song, "For Good", the weight of the meaning really hits home hard, bc you've gotten to SEE that impact that they're singing about for yourself. 💖
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh Listen, I am absolutely a Gelphie shipper, and won't disagree with this headcanon. However, it's still unfortunately a fact that most ppl wouldn't define "For Good" as the love song of Wicked, which is why I said what I did at the beginning of my comment. Do I think that it rightfully SHOULD be considered a love song? Yes, especially as Elphaba & Glinda's relationship is the true heart and soul of the musical, and therefore this song imo hits way harder than "As Long as You're Mine" or even "No Good Deed", as Elphaba/Fiyero hasn't had anywhere near the depth and development that Elphaba & Glinda's relationship got. But given that my comment was being left on a video of someone who hasn't seen the show, I felt it would be confusing and not fair to write something that could lead to my headcanons being misconstrued as the actual canon, and so I wrote my initial comment accordingly.
