Also keep in mind that Lloyd and Mandy are doing short-term travel in each location so their accommodation costs will naturally be higher. If you're a slow travel type of person and are willing to stay month by month, you can dramatically reduce your costs for a place to stay (1/2 or less of what you'd pay with shorter term stays).

Yep I agree with you. I just booked a place in Chiang Mai that's only 1 year old with a full gym, rooftop infinity pool, sauna, fully decked out 1 bed apartment and 2 mins walk to the biggest shopping mall in the city for $19 Aussie a night. If you can do it monthly bookings are the way to go.

Now I'm over near Lonely Beach for 7000 baht/mo in a place with a ton of even nicer bungalows with beautifully soft beds and a good pool for 7000 baht/mo and I'm the only guest here.

Lloyd & Mandy, what you said about cost to travel full time is non existent? We travel alot too: Europe: England, France, Italy, Germany, Holland etc...Asia: Thailand, Singapore, Hongkong, Japan, Vietnam... I don't agree with the food spending that you mention. $30 per day? How can it be? $30 does not even cover the drink during the day and even a little snack of something, let alone food for dinner. Hotel, around $30 a day or $900 a month? You must be dreaming!!! Hotel would could at least $120-$150 a day. How could you suggest a $900 monthly spending?
Unless you are quoting the spending of some one who travels and stay in common house where 20, 40 persons sleep in one hall, and for food one only eats the "banh mi" (Vietnamese sandwich).
I see you guys are not stingy (travelling from Hanoi back to Saigon you guys are willing to spend on a VIP section of $130 per person?) then how can you only spend an average of $30 for food and $30 for hotel???

It’s very difficult (sometimes impossible) for young people to buy assets like houses in the homelands of Mandy (Canada) and Lloyd (Australia). I own a home in Australia, but I’m (much) older than Lloyd so was able to purchase before the prices spiralled out of control. I live cheap in my homeland (my monthly spend is less than Mandy and Lloyds though I live in a first world country…primarily because I own my own home) but splurge on my holidays :)

I have never gone to a gym, either! Walking briskly does it for me, to get from one place to another. I erercise to get from one place to another, primarily.
Gyms are a waste of time and money, in my opinion. And, exercising merely for the sake of exercising is also unappealing. I'd feel like a bloody hamster running on a wheel, running on a treadmill, actually.
