As a child, my Mother moved us from Canada to the Bahamas to the U.S.A. I got used to having to get rid of everything I loved-people, pets, my horses,knick knacks, treasured possesions and so as an adult, I live simply, with very few possesions. I have a small house, so I have some stuff, but it could probably fit in my car. It is a great way to live and I am grateful that I don't form attachments to things. I constantly give things away in fact. I have been following your journey since the beginning and am so excited for you both as you began this new adventure and new chapter in your lives together.
Always thought doing same, but I thought that needed lots of money fr the unknowns !! But listening to your vibs on what it matters most , I think we can do this traveling with modest expenditure. Thanks much
@@smallhouseinthemeadow6131 The stuff I can part with ... not easily, I admit, but I can. The animals are really my anchor ... my four dogs, two cats, and beautiful horse. How could I leave them behind? So animals more than stuff is what prevents me from this type of wandering. Also, a lack of imagination. I have followed the prescribed "path" and these videos make me realize how little I have ever questioned whether that path has led to much happiness. So much to ponder.
I did not expect to be going through a divorce at 56 after 26 years of marriage. Got on a plane in San Francisco with 2 suitcases and moved to Portugal. No regrets. Beautiful places, amazing people, and I feel so grateful to have this new adventure. It sometimes feels surreal, but there is so much I want to learn and see, that I feel lucky to be able to experience new things and new places.

After living in the United States for 22 years, I finally moved back to Argentina. I retired at the age of 43. I am living my dreamed life. Without realizing it I became a minimalist. After living in the USA and working 60+ hours a week for most of my adult life I am more than grateful for my new life in Argentina. Good luck on your new life!
Not hard to do when you have a spouse that is helping you and your grown children are overseas to guide you along. The ones that are all alone, over 60, 70, and even 80, leaving everything behind and are all alone are truly brave and adventurous. Lots of those brave people on TH-cam to watch. Good Luck!

My dearest friends did this for eight years then suddenly, her husband had a stroke. All travel stopped and they had to rely on family and start over acquiring what they needed to care for his debilitating health. This sounds romantic and adventurous but people forget you grow old and this may not be doable in the long term.
That could have happened if they stayed in the United States, too. Perhaps it’s a lesson in preparing financially for health crises, rather than a lesson to not move.
One chapter after the other, they créate mémories, will enjoy their children and babies,...life is a choice, and they do all possible to maintain a good health ( no obésity, frugal simple life, exercice,...) I'm happy for them !!! Blessings +++!!!
I sold everything and made plans to travel the world. I had the first 6 months planned out. A week before I was to leave for Bali, my starting point, all international travel shut down due to Covid. It was March 2020. I didn’t have a bed, a fork, nothing. And I’d given up my lease on my apartment. So I stayed with family and friends over the summer, bought an airstream, and, over a three martini lunch with girlfriends, ended up with a sheepadoodle puppy named Norman. We toured the US for about 6 months. Just me and my dog. He got bigger and the already small trailer got smaller, so I ended up selling it. I’m now working again in Minneapolis and rent a house with a small fenced yard. I still travel, but it’s spaced out. 🙂 I’ll retire retire in about 4 years. I didn’t ever think I would be alone this long post divorce (8 years), or that I’d get laid off from a great job after 15 years, or that my mom would die as soon as she did, etc… All of these life changes altered the kinds of future paths I could choose. And that’s how I ended up where I am now. I viewed most of these changes simply as interesting plot twists in my story. (The exception,of course, being the death of my mother). But honestly, without those unexpected, sometimes life changing moments, it’d be a pretty boring life story. I don’t want twists all the time, mind you. But I’ve learned to go with the flow and just think, “Ok. What else could I do instead?” And I can hear my mom laughing when it doesn’t exactly go my way. 😀 I wish you the best on your journey!

After a series of twists and turns (including the pandemic) we had to cancel plans to travel the world multiple times.. and now have moved back to my home town to care for my ailing mother. Of course, the only choice for me is to go with the flow. I'm grateful for this time with my mom. I admire your ability to flow with life ✨️ and I'm sorry for your loss of your mother.
Thank you for this beautiful presentation. Forgive me for expressing an opinion which is quite contrary to yours. It is not criticism at all. I respect your choice. For me it is hard to understand why a man/woman would leave a wonderful life, in a wonderful country, where you have everything to fulfill your desires, for a future of the unknown. Sure, there are new possibilities, places to explore, but also dangers and difficulties to face. I can do that on a vacation, if I want to. I can grow in compassion, education etc, at my home sweet home. I prefer a solid home, in a nice environment, where everything has it's due place. Where you know you'll wake up every day in the same room and security that you are familiar with, and what you have always wanted. A house on which to build tradition. A garden with flowers, and old trees, and lots of animals, and a fireplace to gather around with your children, grand children, family and friends. That is my ideal, it's the place, my place that I would love. I don't want to be a gypsy, a bird, a nomad, flying around with no roots, and basically nothing that is mine except my suitcase. It would give me a feeling of unease. Not that I want to own everything, not at all. I am quite satisfied with simple things. But they have to be near and in my castle, my stronghold so to speak. Anyway, much love, and happiness on your path, and that God may protect you and your loved ones.
If you love somebody totally as you and your husband do Connie then I believe this love transcends everything. I had this with my late wife. Now I travel on my own but her spirit is with me every minute of the day

I think it is so sad we have lost the beauty of. Multi generational families living together. I partially blame the university system that says your children must live far away from family and that career and ambition is more important than family ties. Well said..our son just moved back in lost his job during covid..we r enjoying him near again we leave him alone and he leaves us alone..we hope he stays ..so he can save some money..and in our 70s he helps us with chores we can no longer do big plus is here when we go camping and don't have to board the pets..

Like yourselves, I sold everything, packed two suitcases, and moved to Ecuador. Solo. 13 years ago. Best decision of my life. And honestly, I’ve never looked back. I’m from San Francisco and I loved my city. But seeing what’s happening up there now has absolutely verified my decision of so many years ago. I travel, experience life, integrated myself into a new culture, I study and learn, I have transformed into a much more relaxed and anxiety free person. I smell the roses everyday. So I applaud you and your husband doing what you’re doing. It’s incredibly liberating. And after a few years you’ll look back and wonder why you didn’t do it before. Now days I don’t ever look back. Living the here and now. It is truly wonderful. Best to you and yours.

We haven't travelled during the covid two years but are really desperate to escape - my brother's ill-health kept us here this past few months. We're off to South Africa in the Autumn. Such a heartwarming video about your journey. I met my wife in Canada 12 years ago and we sold everything and moved to the Philippines. No regrets, my wife just built her home here and we are enjoying our journey together. Both of our daughters were also born in the Philippines. We want to travel more in the future and explore this world. It is a liberating feeling to let go of worldly possessions and make a major move, the journey has more to offer than the destination.
My husband and I left everything in Canada....sold most everything and left our 3 kids. Our youngest started univ. We are in the states now starting over here for my mom who needed us. It's been hard but an adventure. I miss our kids everyday.

Don't wait, act NOW ! It may be that staying in the relationsip is right, but only you will know your deepest concerns. Take notice of those fears at the back of your mind. Acting NOW ! is my mantra for the moment. We had planned to be in France at this moment, I had great plans for making a living there , being with our friends , walking by the river and sanding and polishing the oak staircase that was messed up when we had some work done on the house. Two days before our flight my Nearest and Dearest was in hospital with a less than cheerful diagnosis. Never again will I hesitate to GO when our hearts say GO! Blesings for whatever you decide to do...but don't forget there may well be other hands to hold through good times and bad for evermore, You will never know unles you go for an "Adventure" and see what is out there.
Did this many years ago when life was even simpler when I was quite young. Would not have missed it for the world, but would not do it in this day and age. I didn’t see every place, just the places that I have always dreamed of. And then a few others. You will enjoy this adventure. Coming home was the most difficult thing of my life. But, I didn’t have family living abroad. That makes a big difference. Having people that are family wherever you’re going to be. That does resonate with having the real sense of “home“ because home is not a place, it is the people that we love and, who love us. Enjoy your great adventure, and peace be with you and yours!
I love how you present yourself and your videos. In July 2022, my husband and I left our jobs, gave our kids most of our furniture, sold the home we raised the kids in and took off in our RV. It's been 8 months and 30 states so far. We gave ourselves a year to discover a new home after living in the same town all our lives. We've truly had an adventure and I know you will too!

@@asapasiafury4100 It's hard to offer advice to someone on an RV selection as there are just too many factors to consider. We purchased a 29' 5th wheel and it was perfect for our needs. I wouldn't have gone any larger or smaller.
I would of loved to do this, but now my significant other and I separated after 12 years, and I am stuck taking care of my elderly mom. Maybe some day when I am free I will be able to do this.
I travel the World when my schedule permits. Mexico, Costa Rica, Europe. But there is something about having a home base. When I travel regardless of how incredible the trip was, I yearn to get back to my...place, my space.. my life! Mine is small and simple. A loft in the Chinatown district of my city. I call it Basecamp. The kids are the easy part. Its the aging parents that can totally alter your plans overnight. I plan to spend much time in Thailand and Bali. Someday. But currently have a parent who is in long term care with Dementia.

I lived a life of everything because of not having as a child. I lost my career during the pandemic and I never went back to work.. I have found such peace and balance not having all the extra cash I use to have. I took a leap of faith about 7 years ago and started drastically down sizing wanting to hit the road. My partner fell ill with cancer, fought it and won!🙏 However, we've been stalled as his physical strength has not been restored and navigating a life threatening disease has cost us financially as well. WOW! What a wonderful adventure awaits you! My parents moved us from Germany to NY in the USA when I was 12 even though back then I didn’t want to leave, but I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. In 2000 my husband and I moved to CA after I successfully came through Stage III ovarian cancer surgery and chemo. He had already taken an early retirement and I quit my job because who knew how much longer I had to live. I’m happy to still be around. However, our travels have been cut short since my husband’s dementia diagnosis. I worked for Lufthansa so we did a whole lot of traveling up to 2016. I’m still caring for him at home, with caregiver help, but I am considering respite care for him so I can take a trip to the East Coast in June to visit old friends and his sister who I’m very close to. And in August I’d love to go back to my homeland, Germany, to celebrate my sister’s 90th birthday. Praying all that comes about. It’s a difficult journey right now.
You certainly have a full plate. I would definitely recommend respite care because you need to recharge yourself with things that make you happy and carefree, if only for a while. I wish you the best.
What about your daughter who just went to college? What if she needs you? What about every semester break when she has to move out until the next semester? Where will she go? She’s not really out of your household yet. Pls help me understand!
After a second time marriage and the successful flight of my flock, we moved into a 19' motorhome and travelled Canada until covid hit. It allowed us everything you are reaching for. Go well, Connie💖
I lived in England, etc. But, there is no place like having your own home and land. Still like to travel but must be able to come home to my peace. Each their own.

Amazing! In college I spent time traveling Europe and Japan mostly by myself. 6 years later, I have a husband, 3 year old, and newborn… we will likely spend most of the next 15 years domestic. As an experienced traveler, I honestly hate traveling with babies/toddlers and look forward to the day that we can resume world travels either with older kids or just as a couple. But for now, I am enjoying the phase of life where I’m home with a baby sleeping on my chest!

Women, especially, need to stay mindful and sober, be aware of their surroundings, and take steps to ensure their safety. I'd be safer in many countries than I would be in the south side of my town. That being said, I would steer clear of Mexico, Brazil, Haiti, and other high crime countries.

It's all "living" until you get thrown in jail for a huge misunderstanding (because of the language barrier) and there is no one to advocate for you or get you help or even know your situation. I envy your courage to leave everything behind in the US and live the world. When I downsized from my dream mansion of 21 years in a country club, and decided to move to smaller house, it was so hard. It was not the money issue, but just the memory I had in the old place. Now, I moved to a smaller house and planned for my retirement. Unfortunately, my plan would need to change again soon. So, enjoy your new life and spend time with your family. This is the most important of all.

I believe many Americans will move back. I guess I'm ahead of myself. I traveled and lived abroad in my early 20s. Now I'm 53. There are places that like, but not enough to leave the US. I know that there is a big exodus, especially to Portugal. I ve there and I've done that. This country is big and every place is different. I learned that there is racism everywhere, and as a black person, I will never escape it. I accept it. I get on with my life and try to be happy every single day, and I let nothing get in my way. I don't let the politicians get to me. Unfortunately, there is a lot of hate out there. I don't let it affect my life, nor do I let it kill my joy. I focus on the positive things about this country. There is a reason why millions of people want to come here, yet I have the privilege to be born here. It's not how others feel about me. It's how I feel about myself.
You made me think about what home means to me. How attached I am to my place and how much energy this attachement takes from me. And what if I could losen this attachement a bit...Understand that our main home is The Earth, and our homes are just places we chose to stay. Admire your bravery and giving up on comfort❤

I could never do this. I got my house in Las Vegas, and I fly around the world as needed. But I can t stay away more than 2 or 3 weeks, I got to be home to feel home : ) Good for you.

Im 74 and had two of my 3 children live abroad for years and loved flying over to see them and my grandkids four to five times a year....I missed them so much....but I always encouraged them to live in other countries as I did.....sold up many comfortable homes throughout my life in pursuit of different kinds of adventures.....its not for the faint hearted and not for everyone....the plus side is you get to stay with your grandkids in their environment and build close bonds with them.... As I've got older home comforts have become my priority due to health issues and I can't travel very much now.....your both still very young and as they say "The World is your Oyster".......I'm full of admiration for you both.....because what your doing is very exciting and also nerve wracking.....I love your attitude towards life❤❤.....take care of yourselves out there.....HAPPY TRAVELS.....❤👍

What a lovely life you are creating! I remember when my last child moved out I looked around and thought how important having that home was, one that we could all fit in (our family of 6) and how quickly they grew and moved on. Like you I just stood there gazing at the last empty bedroom. I to thought that we had so many good times in that home that I will cherish but now life unfolds in other ways…what a gift it is that you get to follow your heart, and children, around the world. Discovering who you are ~being free to be present to your adult children and free of all your baggage. Connie,great move. When the grandchildren are young that’s the time to build a relationship with them. I spend more time with my two youngest one as your needed more also. I spend more time them now that we are retired. It’s all good. Safe travels and lots of hugs❤
My husband and I are now 55/60-ish, and in the past couple of years graduated from local tenting on vacations, to traveling around the US together in our truck camper! Tight space, sometimes challenging, sometimes stressful, but so joy-filled and fun! We are loving it, and yes, it's romantic! We are still enjoying our home, but thinking ahead to the day when we might sell it (or rent it out) & buy a van...dreaming, dreaming...
I grew up as a child in Arizona in the 40s 50s and left in 1960. for the coast guard and served for 10 urs. the phi I left was not the same in 70s when I returned went to Idaho in 1980 and have loved it but the America I was born in no longer exists so I'm glad I'm 80 and don't have to be here much longer. I know this sounds dark but it's the hard truth.
We ( my husband, myself and our 2 young kids) just recently moved from Australia to Scotland! It was 3 years in the making and we sold or donated everything we owned and moved with only having a suitcase and bag each. Its been liberating! Scary and wonderful and so blessed to finally feel at home.
@@renatawach743 Scotland is beautiful. Right now it’s in the transition from winter to summer (spring is a bit odd) and it’s glorious with its deep greens and grey skies. I don’t miss Aussie weather at all!! No more 45°c days, brown and grey landscapes… Australia is really only “pretty” on the coastal areas. We lived in cattle country Aussie. Healthcare and education are very different and taking a bit to get used too. Some things are easier and somethings are wildly different
How EXCITING for you and your husband! Not to carry the weight of owning anything, but what fits in your suitcase, there is a FREEDOM that comes with not owning THINGS. You have chosen to TRADE those THINGS in for invaluable, quality time with your children and grandchildren.

Buying a van and visiting my 3 sons and 6 grandchildren in Florida and Texas, heading to Hawaii in the fall and then planning on Mexico in the new year! Looking for my spiritual community! I lasted three years in Ecuador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua from 2011. I'm so glad, at 74, to be back in my dysfunctional homeland to travel vicariously through folks such as yourselves on TH-cam.

It's funny that I was starting to plan out how to do something similar within the next year. I'm now self employed and can work anywhere. I have been minimizing all of my items over the past four years and spending a lot less. I guess I have been making preparations for relocating abroad without an awareness that my journey could lead me to live in another country one day. I have not traveled abroad in years but since late fall I have been researching different countries and looking into learning a few new languages. I'm amazed at your courage to follow your heart. I love travel and have taken my first trips to Europe alone. Everyplace I visit, I think is this home. Congratulations on your sense of freedom. Your husband is very handsome and strong. Already was gone for the airforce. I love being in one place and seeing my children constantly. 7 children. Lived in the same home for 35 years. One of my daughters lives next door. I have 24 grandchildren. Lots of visiting back and forth. Still have 2 in the nest.

You’re gonna have a lot of adventures for sure ❤❤ We are a military family but my husband is about to retire. We’ve lived in several states and overseas and took advantage of all the traveling while he’s in service. But we’re ready to put down our roots. We bought our forever home with an inground pool and I will finally have my flower and vegetable garden that I dreamt of for years. On top of that, we are only 20min away from both of our parents now and it has been so wonderful to finally see them whenever we want and to be there for each other. We will no longer plan our vacation leave to visit them or vice versa. If we get the itch to see something new or experience something new, then family vacay it is. We’ve had our adventures and it won’t end here just bc my husband is retired, but I love living in our permanent home close to the people who truly love us.

We too sold, or gave away, everything we owned and bought a class c motorhome and have been slowly driving around the US. Although I do become anxious making the plans, it’s going well and my husband and I have become closer. It’s scary, but it’s fun. We have been to amazing places already. I just stumbled onto this site so this was my first video. I'm 76. My late husband was career military so we had the opportunity to live in many places. My current husband is a physician who loves to travel as I do too. I have a farm. I have animals I love. I also have three kids and grandkids. Some near some not so near. As I reflect on your sharing I think about the objects that fill my life. I, of course, like everyone else my age, am going through things and simplifying. However there are so many memories. Not grand expensive things....it might be a rock from a trip I took to Iceland with one of my grandsons. I'm giving many things to my children and grandchildren where there is a connection. I find I am conflicted by some things you are exploring like wanting to be more connected and present with children and grandchildren. I think back to when I was young. Did I want my family members so close and involved? My mother came from Italy so those family connections were critically important. But is it the same for these young people now. What do they want? I'm not sure. I am interested in seeing how your story evolves.
Nice that you are giving it a go. Many people leave their home countries 'forever' but we do not know what the future holds. Enroll in the STEP program, keep your visas, passports up to date, register FVAP, and safe travels. Time is what we share, create those memories.
Indeed, I have taken a leap of faith and did so for similar reasons as you are now doing on behalf of your children. My husband and I moved in 2013 to a city that allowed him access to a larger airport for the traveling he could get direct flights and save significant time. It placed us 3 hours closer to where my daughter began going to college as well. We knew no one in this city and were moving away from everyone we already knew and our family. We didn’t do it for a job or better home or better school districts on behalf of my younger son. We sent him to a private school we found that met his needs until he graduated in 2020. We lived there until 2021 and although everyone thought we were nuts to move where we did, I knew we needed to consolidate our small family unit. Our marriage became much stronger away from our parents. Our children thrived with us as their main source of foundation not getting pulled into a million different directions. I felt like we were living on our own private island because it was just the 4 of us focused on being a family and supporting one another’s activities. I loved it. We got to know my daughter’s future husband, attend all her concerts and events, and she could support my son’s activities as he got older. We moved back to the same area in 2021 because my daughter requested we move closer since she and her husband were discussing starting a family. Her husband’s parents are already here and so many other family members are still living in the area. I asked her, “Don’t you want your kids to have just one set of grandparents to travel to see so that they have a neat, new place to explore?” And she said, “Mom, I may be selfish, but I’m not thinking about my not-born kids yet. I’m thinking about me. I know when I get pregnant there’s no one I want here more than you and I’m going to need you. And I don’t want you to come for two weeks after the baby is born or to help me shop for the nursery. I want you to be in my life daily and for my kids to know who you are. I can’t imagine it any other way.” That was all the invitation I required.

As a child, my Mother moved us from Canada to the Bahamas to the U.S.A. I got used to having to get rid of everything I loved-people, pets, my horses,knick knacks, treasured possesions and so as an adult, I live simply, with very few possesions. I have a small house, so I have some stuff, but it could probably fit in my car. It is a great way to live and I am grateful that I don't form attachments to things. I constantly give things away in fact. I have been following your journey since the beginning and am so excited for you both as you began this new adventure and new chapter in your lives together.

How could I leave them behind? So animals more than stuff is what prevents me from this type of wandering. Also, a lack of imagination. I have followed the prescribed "path" and these videos make me realize how little I have ever questioned whether that path has led to much happiness. So much to ponder.

I did not expect to be going through a divorce at 56 after 26 years of marriage. Got on a plane in San Francisco with 2 suitcases and moved to Portugal. No regrets. Beautiful places, amazing people, and I feel so grateful to have this new adventure. It sometimes feels surreal, but there is so much I want to learn and see, that I feel lucky to be able to experience new things and new places.
I am thinking about Portugal myself.

In 2014 after struggling with medical issues...I booked a 1 way ticket to Mexico City and 15 month's later ended up in Brasil...It was do or die...After frustrating years of no answers from Doctor's and another prescription that made me worse...That Journey saved and changed my life for good...I completley healed from my medical conditions and made peace with my past...It's about Energy and living in the present...It's also about loving yourself first and taking the only body, mind and spirit and nourshing it with authentic and holistic exercise, nutrition and etc. but the same with people, places and things...Removing all Toxic Energy...Fear is what keeps most folks trapped...Be kind to yourself and get out in it...Sending Blessings and Positive energy to all on the Journey! 🇵🇹😉🙏😇✌️🤘🤙

After living in the United States for 22 years, I finally moved back to Argentina. I retired at the age of 43. I am living my dreamed life. Without realizing it I became a minimalist. After living in the USA and working 60+ hours a week for most of my adult life I am more than grateful for my new life in Argentina. Good luck on your new life!

Not hard to do when you have a spouse that is helping you and your grown children are overseas to guide you along. The ones that are all alone, over 60, 70, and even 80, leaving everything behind and are all alone are truly brave and adventurous. Lots of those brave people on TH-cam to watch. Good Luck!

Widowed since 2002, I left the US for Poland 10 years ago at age 57. You are right, it definitely would have been easier with my husband.
My dearest friends did this for eight years then suddenly, her husband had a stroke. All travel stopped and they had to rely on family and start over acquiring what they needed to care for his debilitating health. This sounds romantic and adventurous but people forget you grow old and this may not be doable in the long term.
That could have happened if they stayed in the United States, too. Perhaps it’s a lesson in preparing financially for health crises, rather than a lesson to not move.
One chapter after the other, they créate mémories, will enjoy their children and babies,...life is a choice, and they do all possible to maintain a good health ( no obésity, frugal simple life, exercice,...)

I sold everything and made plans to travel the world. I had the first 6 months planned out. A week before I was to leave for Bali, my starting point, all international travel shut down due to Covid. It was March 2020. I didn’t have a bed, a fork, nothing. And I’d given up my lease on my apartment. So I stayed with family and friends over the summer, bought an airstream, and, over a three martini lunch with girlfriends, ended up with a sheepadoodle puppy named Norman. We toured the US for about 6 months. Just me and my dog. He got bigger and the already small trailer got smaller, so I ended up selling it. I’m now working again in Minneapolis and rent a house with a small fenced yard. I still travel, but it’s spaced out. 🙂 I’ll retire retire in about 4 years. I didn’t ever think I would be alone this long post divorce (8 years), or that I’d get laid off from a great job after 15 years, or that my mom would die as soon as she did, etc… All of these life changes altered the kinds of future paths I could choose. And that’s how I ended up where I am now. I viewed most of these changes simply as interesting plot twists in my story. (The exception,of course, being the death of my mother). But honestly, without those unexpected, sometimes life changing moments, it’d be a pretty boring life story. I don’t want twists all the time, mind you. But I’ve learned to go with the flow and just think, “Ok. What else could I do instead?” And I can hear my mom laughing when it doesn’t exactly go my way. 😀 I wish you the best on your journey!

After a series of twists and turns (including the pandemic) we had to cancel plans to travel the world multiple times.. and now have moved back to my home town to care for my ailing mother. Of course, the only choice for me is to go with the flow. I'm grateful for this time with my mom. I admire your ability to flow with life ✨️ and I'm sorry for your loss of your mother.

Thank you for this beautiful presentation. Forgive me for expressing an opinion which is quite contrary to yours. It is not criticism at all. I respect your choice. For me it is hard to understand why a man/woman would leave a wonderful life, in a wonderful country, where you have everything to fulfill your desires, for a future of the unknown. Sure, there are new possibilities, places to explore, but also dangers and difficulties to face. I can do that on a vacation, if I want to. I can grow in compassion, education etc, at my home sweet home. I prefer a solid home, in a nice environment, where everything has it's due place. Where you know you'll wake up every day in the same room and security that you are familiar with, and what you have always wanted. A house on which to build tradition. A garden with flowers, and old trees, and lots of animals, and a fireplace to gather around with your children, grand children, family and friends. That is my ideal, it's the place, my place that I would love. I don't want to be a gypsy, a bird, a nomad, flying around with no roots, and basically nothing that is mine except my suitcase. It would give me a feeling of unease. Not that I want to own everything, not at all. I am quite satisfied with simple things. But they have to be near and in my castle, my stronghold so to speak. Anyway, much love, and happiness on your path, and that God may protect you and your loved ones.
If you love somebody totally as you and your husband do Connie then I believe this love transcends everything. I had this with my late wife. Now I travel on my own but her spirit is with me every minute of the day

Well said..our son just moved back in lost his job during covid..we r enjoying him near again we leave him alone and he leaves us alone..we hope he stays ..so he can save some money..and in our 70s he helps us with chores we can no longer do big plus is here when we go camping and don't have to board the pets..

Like yourselves, I sold everything, packed two suitcases, and moved to Ecuador. Solo. 13 years ago. Best decision of my life. And honestly, I’ve never looked back. I’m from San Francisco and I loved my city. But seeing what’s happening up there now has absolutely verified my decision of so many years ago. I travel, experience life, integrated myself into a new culture, I study and learn, I have transformed into a much more relaxed and anxiety free person. I smell the roses everyday. So I applaud you and your husband doing what you’re doing. It’s incredibly liberating. And after a few years you’ll look back and wonder why you didn’t do it before. Now days I don’t ever look back. Living the here and now. It is truly wonderful. Best to you and yours.

We haven't travelled during the covid two years but are really desperate to escape - my brother's ill-health kept us here this past few months. We're off to South Africa in the Autumn. Such a heartwarming video about your journey. I met my wife in Canada 12 years ago and we sold everything and moved to the Philippines. No regrets, my wife just built her home here and we are enjoying our journey together. Both of our daughters were also born in the Philippines. We want to travel more in the future and explore this world. It is a liberating feeling to let go of worldly possessions and make a major move, the journey has more to offer than the destination.
My husband and I left everything in Canada....sold most everything and left our 3 kids. Our youngest started univ. We are in the states now starting over here for my mom who needed us. It's been hard but an adventure. I miss our kids everyday.

You create the life that you want. Life does not "have its own plan."
Don't wait, act NOW ! It may be that staying in the relationsip is right, but only you will know your deepest concerns. Take notice of those fears at the back of your mind. Acting NOW ! is my mantra for the moment. We had planned to be in France at this moment, I had great plans for making a living there , being with our friends , walking by the river and sanding and polishing the oak staircase that was messed up when we had some work done on the house. Two days before our flight my Nearest and Dearest was in hospital with a less than cheerful diagnosis. Never again will I hesitate to GO when our hearts say GO! Blesings for whatever you decide to do...but don't forget there may well be other hands to hold through good times and bad for evermore, You will never know unles you go for an "Adventure" and see what is out there.

Did this many years ago when life was even simpler when I was quite young. Would not have missed it for the world, but would not do it in this day and age. I didn’t see every place, just the places that I have always dreamed of. And then a few others. You will enjoy this adventure. Coming home was the most difficult thing of my life. But, I didn’t have family living abroad. That makes a big difference. Having people that are family wherever you’re going to be. That does resonate with having the real sense of “home“ because home is not a place, it is the people that we love and, who love us.

I love how you present yourself and your videos. In July 2022, my husband and I left our jobs, gave our kids most of our furniture, sold the home we raised the kids in and took off in our RV. It's been 8 months and 30 states so far. We gave ourselves a year to discover a new home after living in the same town all our lives. We've truly had an adventure and I know you will too!

@@asapasiafury4100 It's hard to offer advice to someone on an RV selection as there are just too many factors to consider. We purchased a 29' 5th wheel and it was perfect for our needs. I wouldn't have gone any larger or smaller.

I travel the World when my schedule permits. Mexico, Costa Rica, Europe. But there is something about having a home base. When I travel regardless of how incredible the trip was, I yearn to get back to my...place, my space.. my life! Mine is small and simple. A loft in the Chinatown district of my city. I call it Basecamp. The kids are the easy part. Its the aging parents that can totally alter your plans overnight. I plan to spend much time in Thailand and Bali. Someday. But currently have a parent who is in long term care with Dementia.

I lived a life of everything because of not having as a child. I lost my career during the pandemic and I never went back to work.. I took a leap of faith about 7 years ago and started drastically down sizing wanting to hit the road. My partner fell ill with cancer, fought it and won!🙏 However, we've been stalled as his physical strength has not been restored and navigating a life threatening disease has cost us financially as well.

WOW! What a wonderful adventure awaits you! My parents moved us from Germany to NY in the USA when I was 12 even though back then I didn’t want to leave, but I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. In 2000 my husband and I moved to CA after I successfully came through Stage III ovarian cancer surgery and chemo. He had already taken an early retirement and I quit my job because who knew how much longer I had to live. I’m happy to still be around. However, our travels have been cut short since my husband’s dementia diagnosis. I worked for Lufthansa so we did a whole lot of traveling up to 2016. I’m still caring for him at home, with caregiver help, but I am considering respite care for him so I can take a trip to the East Coast in June to visit old friends and his sister who I’m very close to. And in August I’d love to go back to my homeland, Germany, to celebrate my sister’s 90th birthday. Praying all that comes about. It’s a difficult journey right now.
You certainly have a full plate. I would definitely recommend respite care because you need to recharge yourself with things that make you happy and carefree, if only for a while. I wish you the best.

Not to worry. I’m pretty certain her daughter didn’t stick around the U. S. any longer than she had to.
After a second time marriage and the successful flight of my flock, we moved into a 19' motorhome and travelled Canada until covid hit. It allowed us everything you are reaching for. Go well, Connie💖
I lived in England, etc. But, there is no place like having your own home and land. Still like to travel but must be able to come home to my peace. Each their own.

Amazing! In college I spent time traveling Europe and Japan mostly by myself. 6 years later, I have a husband, 3 year old, and newborn… we will likely spend most of the next 15 years domestic. As an experienced traveler, I honestly hate traveling with babies/toddlers and look forward to the day that we can resume world travels either with older kids or just as a couple. But for now, I am enjoying the phase of life where I’m home with a baby sleeping on my chest!

Women, especially, need to stay mindful and sober, be aware of their surroundings, and take steps to ensure their safety. I'd be safer in many countries than I would be in the south side of my town. That being said, I would steer clear of Mexico, Brazil, Haiti, and other high crime countries.
@@heatherwhittaker6169 It depends on what country. Just because you choose to be cautious doesn't mean you aren't "living". It's all "living" until you get thrown in jail for a huge misunderstanding (because of the language barrier) and there is no one to advocate for you or get you help or even know your situation. True story of a friend of mine.

I envy your courage to leave everything behind in the US and live the world. When I downsized from my dream mansion of 21 years in a country club, and decided to move to smaller house, it was so hard. It was not the money issue, but just the memory I had in the old place. Now, I moved to a smaller house and planned for my retirement. Unfortunately, my plan would need to change again soon. So, enjoy your new life and spend time with your family. This is the most important of all.
Congratulations! This is so exciting! You are living my fantasy life. I always think it’s great when parents raise children who have the confidence and feeling of support and security to travel and move abroad. You won’t need boxes or a suitcase for the priceless memories you will be making!
I believe many Americans will move back. I guess I'm ahead of myself. I traveled and lived abroad in my early 20s. Now I'm 53. There are places that like, but not enough to leave the US.
I know that there is a big exodus, especially to Portugal. I ve there and I've done that. This country is big and every place is different.
I learned that there is racism everywhere, and as a black person, I will never escape it. I accept it. I get on with my life and try to be happy every single day, and I let nothing get in my way.
I don't let the politicians get to me. Unfortunately, there is a lot of hate out there. I don't let it affect my life, nor do I let it kill my joy. I focus on the positive things about this country. There is a reason why millions of people want to come here, yet I have the privilege to be born here. It's not how others feel about me. It's how I feel about myself.

I could never do this. I got my house in Las Vegas, and I fly around the world as needed. But I can t stay away more than 2 or 3 weeks, I got to be home to feel home : ) Good for you.

Im 74 and had two of my 3 children live abroad for years and loved flying over to see them and my grandkids four to five times a year....I missed them so much....but I always encouraged them to live in other countries as I did.....sold up many comfortable homes throughout my life in pursuit of different kinds of adventures.....its not for the faint hearted and not for everyone....the plus side is you get to stay with your grandkids in their environment and build close bonds with them.... As I've got older home comforts have become my priority due to health issues and I can't travel very much now.....your both still very young and as they say "The World is your Oyster".......I'm full of admiration for you both.....because what your doing is very exciting and also nerve wracking.....I love your attitude towards life❤❤.....take care of yourselves out there.....HAPPY TRAVELS.....❤👍

What a lovely life you are creating! I remember when my last child moved out I looked around and thought how important having that home was, one that we could all fit in (our family of 6) and how quickly they grew and moved on. Like you I just stood there gazing at the last empty bedroom. I to thought that we had so many good times in that home that I will cherish but now life unfolds in other ways…what a gift it is that you get to follow your heart, and children, around the world. Discovering who you are ~being free to be present to your adult children and free of all your baggage. Connie,great move. When the grandchildren are young that’s the time to build a relationship with them. I spend more time with my two youngest one as your needed more also. I spend more time them now that we are retired. It’s all good. Safe travels and lots of hugs❤
My husband and I are now 55/60-ish, and in the past couple of years graduated from local tenting on vacations, to traveling around the US together in our truck camper! Tight space, sometimes challenging, sometimes stressful, but so joy-filled and fun! We are loving it, and yes, it's romantic! We are still enjoying our home, but thinking ahead to the day when we might sell it (or rent it out) & buy a van...dreaming, dreaming...
I grew up as a child in Arizona in the 40s 50s and left in 1960. for the coast guard and served for 10 urs. the phi I left was not the same in 70s when I returned went to Idaho in 1980 and have loved it but the America I was born in no longer exists so I'm glad I'm 80 and don't have to be here much longer. I know this sounds dark but it's the hard truth.

We ( my husband, myself and our 2 young kids) just recently moved from Australia to Scotland! It was 3 years in the making and we sold or donated everything we owned and moved with only having a suitcase and bag each. Its been liberating! Scary and wonderful and so blessed to finally feel at home.

@@renatawach743 Scotland is beautiful. Right now it’s in the transition from winter to summer (spring is a bit odd) and it’s glorious with its deep greens and grey skies.
I don’t miss Aussie weather at all!! No more 45°c days, brown and grey landscapes… Australia is really only “pretty” on the coastal areas. We lived in cattle country Aussie.
Healthcare and education are very different and taking a bit to get used too. Some things are easier and somethings are wildly different

I’m doing the same thing. Leaving my mountain top home in VT heading out on my Spirit Quest. Rented a storage. Selling a lot and giving things away. Buying a van and visiting my 3 sons and 6 grandchildren in Florida and Texas, heading to Hawaii in the fall and then planning on Mexico in the new year! Looking for my spiritual community! So excited! Life is Good!

It's funny that I was starting to plan out how to do something similar within the next year. I'm now self employed and can work anywhere. I have been minimizing all of my items over the past four years and spending a lot less. I guess I have been making preparations for relocating abroad without an awareness that my journey could lead me to live in another country one day. I have not traveled abroad in years but since late fall I have been researching different countries and looking into learning a few new languages. I'm amazed at your courage to follow your heart. Already was gone for the airforce. I love being in one place and seeing my children constantly. 7 children. Lived in the same home for 35 years. One of my daughters lives next door. I have 24 grandchildren. Lots of visiting back and forth. Still have 2 in the nest.

You’re gonna have a lot of adventures for sure ❤❤ We are a military family but my husband is about to retire. We’ve lived in several states and overseas and took advantage of all the traveling while he’s in service. But we’re ready to put down our roots. We bought our forever home with an inground pool and I will finally have my flower and vegetable garden that I dreamt of for years. On top of that, we are only 20min away from both of our parents now and it has been so wonderful to finally see them whenever we want and to be there for each other. We will no longer plan our vacation leave to visit them or vice versa. If we get the itch to see something new or experience something new, then family vacay it is. We’ve had our adventures and it won’t end here just bc my husband is retired, but I love living in our permanent home close to the people who truly love us.
You are doing the right thing. Life is short. If this is what makes you happy, go for it!

We too sold, or gave away, everything we owned and bought a class c motorhome and have been slowly driving around the US. Although I do become anxious making the plans, it’s going well and my husband and I have become closer. It’s scary, but it’s fun. We have been to amazing places already.

I just stumbled onto this site so this was my first video. I'm 76. My late husband was career military so we had the opportunity to live in many places. My current husband is a physician who loves to travel as I do too. I have a farm. I have animals I love. I also have three kids and grandkids. Some near some not so near. As I reflect on your sharing I think about the objects that fill my life. I, of course, like everyone else my age, am going through things and simplifying. However there are so many memories. Not grand expensive things....it might be a rock from a trip I took to Iceland with one of my grandsons. I'm giving many things to my children and grandchildren where there is a connection. I find I am conflicted by some things you are exploring like wanting to be more connected and present with children and grandchildren. I think back to when I was young. Did I want my family members so close and involved? My mother came from Italy so those family connections were critically important. But is it the same for these young people now. What do they want? I'm not sure. I am interested in seeing how your story evolves.
Nice that you are giving it a go. Many people leave their home countries 'forever' but we do not know what the future holds. Enroll in the STEP program, keep your visas, passports up to date, register FVAP, and safe travels. Time is what we share, create those memories.
Indeed, I have taken a leap of faith and did so for similar reasons as you are now doing on behalf of your children. My husband and I moved in 2013 to a city that allowed him access to a larger airport for the traveling he could get direct flights and save significant time. It placed us 3 hours closer to where my daughter began going to college as well. We knew no one in this city and were moving away from everyone we already knew and our family. We didn’t do it for a job or better home or better school districts on behalf of my younger son. We sent him to a private school we found that met his needs until he graduated in 2020. We lived there until 2021 and although everyone thought we were nuts to move where we did, I knew we needed to consolidate our small family unit. Our marriage became much stronger away from our parents. Our children thrived with us as their main source of foundation not getting pulled into a million different directions. I felt like we were living on our own private island because it was just the 4 of us focused on being a family and supporting one another’s activities. I loved it. We got to know my daughter’s future husband, attend all her concerts and events, and she could support my son’s activities as he got older. We moved back to the same area in 2021 because my daughter requested we move closer since she and her husband were discussing starting a family. Her husband’s parents are already here and so many other family members are still living in the area. I asked her, “Don’t you want your kids to have just one set of grandparents to travel to see so that they have a neat, new place to explore?” And she said, “Mom, I may be selfish, but I’m not thinking about my not-born kids yet. I’m thinking about me. I know when I get pregnant there’s no one I want here more than you and I’m going to need you. And I don’t want you to come for two weeks after the baby is born or to help me shop for the nursery. I want you to be in my life daily and for my kids to know who you are. I can’t imagine it any other way.” That was all the invitation I required.
