  • In today's travel vlog, we share our experience travelling from Bali Indonesia to Bangkok, Thailand. Thailand has only just recently relaxed all PCR testing and Quarantine rules starting May 1st.
We take you with us for our first 48 hours in the city and explain why our assumptions about Bangkok were completely wrong.
    🏠 4 Monkeys Hotel Bangkok: book.justwndr....
The first few things we checked off the list were Kaoh San Road and eating local authentic street food including Pad Thai, Green Curry and Mango Sticky Rice.

My goal is to save a lot and then retire within 5 years an move back too Thailand. You both will love the food and all the sightseeing that THAILAND will show you.

It's really nice to watch a travel vlog and not feel like the people making it are full of shit. You guys seem really genuine, like you're recording what you're actually doing day to day rather than the over-the-top performative cringe that most of these vloggers come with (maybe I'm just a sour brit). Really appreciate the helpful and enjoyable video! Thanks both

I am not a "city person" when traveling. I don't mind a couple days but then I need to get out. Bangkok is different for me. I absolutely love that city and spend weeks at a time there when in Thailand. The small communities within Bangkok make it something special and the Thais, of course, make me feel welcome and happy. November 2022 and I will be back!

Hey guys... I lived in Thailand a few years ago and hated those atm fees. A quick hack I found out was going inside the bank and doing a counter withdrawal. Just wait in line, tell them you want to do a withdrawal, and they'll bring out that little machine and swipe your card there and give you the cash right there -- and you don't get charged atm fees because it's technically not an atm withdrawal. Hope that helps. Safe travels!

We love Thailand and have been there 7 times twice thru Bangkok. Where you stay is very important as the first time we picked the wrong area ( on friends advice ) did not suit us at all . last time we really loved where we stayed . Love the local feel and easy to pick the best food when you find a restaurant full of locals. I had read somewhere that they have cleared away alot of the night time street vendors over the years . We so loved grabbing meat on a stick as we called it from the street carts , then guessing what it was . So happy with how fresh and juicy it all was

@@MickyAM the area we liked and stayed in last time was near the victory monument. The shopping centre nearby called Century The Movie plaza had a Tops supermarket for supplies and snacks. The local food options were great and there were people set up on the pavement selling all sorts of food and trinkets. Not sure if this is still happening since covid. But there were reasonable restaurants in the streets around . Plus the train is easy to access there as well . We liked our hotel too the Pullman kingpower. Staff were excellent. Next time we will try somewhere else .

    welcome to Thailand guys!
Anyway, I think the price of the stuff onboard was wrong because I just traveled with Thai AirAsia last week (from DPS-DMK) and the price of water is just 40 thb. So, it’s gonna be only 1.5 usd. When I paid to them 2 usd, I got change in thb! So, I f you pay 5.66 usd as you mentioned, it’s probably 175 thb which is very expensive for a bottle of plain water!! I think it’s gonna be something wrong for you or maybe miscommunication with the crew. And of course, rate is a bit different but it’s acceptable! On the other hand, if you pay in Indonesia Rupia, 1 bottle of water is gonna be 40,000 IDR as IDR is lower that THB.

While you are in Thailand a must visit is Cave Lodge in Bang Ma pha, Mae Hong son province in the mountains of the the North. I ran small group adventures tours throughout Thailand and SouthEast Asia for 11 years and everyone I took there loved it and the area is full of hill tribe villages, caves and great walks in spectacular scenery. Especially good in the cooler months Oct-Jan/Feb. Super green and lush just after the rains have backed off and as the temps start to drop. Misty mountains and green forests. Women say Kop khun ka and men say Kop khun kup so the street food guy was correcting you in a polite way by saying "Kop khun ka" back to you when you used the men's thank you. When you go up North Mandy can use Kop khun jao as thank you. The locals will love it. 🙂

There are other scammers near popular tourist spots. Sometimes they would tell you that the temples won’t open until later, and that you should do a tour with them first. But glad you made the best out of it. I usually use the prices on Grab to see if the driver is offering a fair price. Be on the lookout if it is too good to be true sometimes.

Those ATM fees are pretty standard. When we spent a lot of time over there we would take out large amounts of money to last us a couple of weeks at a time to avoid paying them all the time. Cambodia had a similar problem as well. When you're on a budget those fees can be brutal.

Also... if you head to Chiang Mai, make sure you take the time to head further north to Chiang Rai. It's some of the most authentic Thailand that you will see and some incredible temples!

I was in Thailand Feb/Mar and made about a dozen ATM withdrawals. So fees add up, around AUD100 for me. I am heading back next month and once the cash I am bringing is expended I will need to withdraw cash from somewhere. Someone told me the 220 baht ATM fee can be avoided by withdrawing over the counter, just need to bring your passport. I will give that a go next time.

For me Bangkok isn’t the real Thailand experience. It’s a good place but just a stop off place in my opinion. Try going to E-san , very friendly people and great food. There’s hardly any tourist farangs there as well, I was never ripped or scammed when I went around E-san as well, I paid local Thai prices for song tuew, transport etc. Renting a motorcycle or borrowing one is definitely a must do in SE Asia , a lot of farangs just tend to stick to chiang mai , Phuket , Pattaya , etc and never experience true Thailand

If you are an Australian open an ING bank account in Australia before you travel. All fees are reimbursed straight away so you don't have to worry about how much the ATM fees are in any country. For Americans open a Charles Schwab account. Most expensive fees I have ever paid was $8 in Singapore in Chinatown.

A video from 10,000 years ago shows a similar couple describing the horrors and hardships when fighting off wild animals, trudging through snow for miles to gather food and watching clan members lose children to disease and hunger. Fast forward to the 'digital nomad' era, and there's intense struggles with over-priced airline food, hotel reservation systems and poorly-trained customer service agents. All-in-all, not a bad time to be alive!

I lived in Bangkok when I got verified by Google (different account) and I had them send the verification piece of mail to a family member and then they provided me with the code (if I remember correctly). This worked because I was using the same family member as my address for my financial accounts so don't know if that is required but maybe that is an option. I don't know if you all are using Aussie dollars or US but it is a great time to use US dollars in Thailand, check out the currency conversion chart. It was 30 to 1 when I lived there.

I have a ING orange everyday account from Australia. They offered no fee ATM any bank anywhere. You must deposit $1000aud every month. If you deposit in June it will be in effect July. Saved me a ton. I live in Bangkok now and don’t need it. It was all done online, they did have a small branch in Sydney CBD. Good luck!

Was it very packed before? I've been hearing that it's pretty vacant since COVID. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for foreign visitors!

    • @peacharika67
      @peacharika67 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@salty8115 Yes, it was.
I’m not sure it’s good or bad though I would to go back and try out when it’s quiet like that. I used to go there just for live music (many good live music) and did hang out with friends for a few hours. It was great! 😊
In my opinion, it depends on what foreign visitors expect from it. Khao San Road is a famous street for backpackers which is quite noisy and crowded, but a lot of fun. 👍
I heard from some friends who stayed there and said they had a full-on day that started with a body massage, enjoyed delicious foods all the along the street, shopping then tried very strong mixed-all kind alcohol, tried a scorpion on a stick 😂, or even danced with friends and strangers (another group from different countries) all night! After a few days in the Khaosan Road area they felt they had enough, they moved to see and stay in other places that were calmer and cozier.
So, this road I'd just say it is the first gate entrance of Bangkok that the visitors can have good entertainment and experience the crowded.

I think there is a trick with ATMs. The fees are applied when you let the ATM convert from AUD to baht. You need to say no in the menu and then the bank will do the conversion instead.

We just got back from travelling. We're also budget travelers. We learned from our mistake and always bring extra food or snacks we buy either at the market or at the airport. Although food is quite expensive at the airport, it's still cheaper than the meal menu on a flight.
Our driver was also browsing Facebook while driving last time we were in Bangkok and I filmed it too, lmao. Brings back memories.
