If Koki Niwa play an offensive game rather than being fancy, he can be really scary to his opponents. He is very skilled yet he does not utilize his skills.

Even he lost, I was convinced again that Niwa is one of the most talented and creative players in the world. And I believe my conviction doesn’t come from the fact that he is my compatriot. His performance is just admirable.

I like Niwa, but sometimes he looks to lack energy. He plays like it didn't matter.
He has the Drunken Master style. Also he is a genious lol but he is surpassed by explosive-agresive style nowadays.
I think if Waldner would play nowadays like he played before he would lose too.

@@kristofbaumann8180 I just find their game styles kinda similar: an endless talent and too laidback to actually win championships(on top levels, at least).

@@92SMIF Just like Xu Xin, he is blessed with talent, and also cursed with it. He can win without trying his absolute hardest, he is able to flow with the game and play without too much thought, just reacts and wins so he keeps doing it. Same with Xu Xin, he allows himself to be put in defensive positions away from the table, but because of his superior athletecism and ability to power the ball back from far back, he never has a problem even if he doesn't play the "best" way. Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Fan Zhendong are examples of players who maybe arent blessed with as much "talent" per se, they have carefully crafted playstyles and strokes that are designed to fit an extremely specific playstyle that can counter anything and create their own power. They can't just "go with the flow" so they have to mold their playstyle to fit with the trend, and thats why they are above and beyond the rest!
Only Japanese player i always waiting to watch, so much fun :)

Harimoto's parents are Chinese. Koki Niwa is too tipical Japanese . Wish Koki is more aggressive like him.

ファンっていつもやばいラリーしてるイメージだけど、丹羽が相手だからか本領発揮できてないよな。
丹羽の肩の力が抜けたような独特な雰囲気が相手に伝わってしまうんだろうな。
丹羽が試合してるとき普段強い相手が本領発揮できてない様子が観てたりして面白い。
あと負けそうになってヤケクソで球打ったり回転かけたりして遊びはじめるところ好き。

Niwa looks like he's in really good form right now. I wish he wouldn't attempt so many chop blocks against a player like Fan because they just aren't as effective. But I understand his habit of trying crazy shots because I do the same.
I think its his fall bad, last ditch effort when he is reaching out of position or desperate, he doesn't do it by choice. It is a specialty shot that he is comfortable with, and if he is out of position he will go for it. The difference is that Fan Zhendongs specialty is power no matter where the ball comes, a fast counter is his last ditch effort, otherwise he just takes control of the ralley and forces the opponent to risk a fast counter or a slow block, which he will take advantage of. A dominant style if anything

Niwa is amazingly quick and has great touch but Fan is much more powerful and also is consistent.

昨天看评论我还以为樊振东输了呢。。。丹羽孝希这种漂亮球都是搏杀球，搏杀球就是高风险高回报，他心里也知道实力悬殊，日本队员都喜欢搏杀，要么漂亮球，要么死得干脆。。。看着评论吹得，我特么都以为樊振东输了。。。
输了比赛，赢了观众的感觉吧。

Not a single reverse pendulum serve from FZD in this match??
FZD is playing against a leftie. Reverse pendulum from a right hand player will always landing the backhand side of the left hand player. Flipping banana shots are much easier on the backhand. Since Niwa is crafty. FZD knew better. That's the right strategy.
