  • The 79 Series Landcruiser is an extremely versatile, and let's face it.... basic vehicle. However that is part of its charm! The simplicity of the car is a huge draw card for many 79 Series owners. In this episode we talk about the pro's and con's of a 300mm chassis extension for the 79 Series.

Interesting stuff Ruben, so what I wanted to know is - since you extend the chassis, you strengthen the chassis accordingly. Therefore I'm interpreting this as still OK to have that existing length of overhang ( everything after the rear wheel arch, including the spare wheels)??? Would've thought ideally, you would keep the overall length of the original tray, but have the rear wheel arch/axle move back for the extension. Here in the video, all I see is chassis extension and the same length of overhang, making the whole vehicle longer...🤔

1 thing that is never answered is how do you stop the chassis rusting on the inside now that all the heat affected areas from welding has blisted all the paint on the inside

I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead with a 300mm extension pr not. However, I do enjoy doing some pretty decent track in the 79 dual cab. Would you suggest keeping it standard to for the 4wd capability? Cheers

Quick question(s). Why a 300mm and not 450mm? (I get the whole turning circle thing). Also, when are you putting up more on the chopped y62?

Just the most common choice really. As for the Y62 .... soon!

Should you do a chassis extension on a single cab 79?

No, the rear axle is already in the middle of the tray. Which makes it have the perfect weight carrying position. A dual cabs wheel base is in the front 1/3rd of the tray which makes weight sit behind the axle, resulting in bad handling and stress on the chassis

    What’s happening with the Y62?

It is pretty much all done Mark. Just a couple of things left to do then it will get a few trips in.
