Thank you to the organ curator Jörg Glebe.
Villa Hügel was built by the famous German Steel manufacturer, inventor and industrialist, Alfred Krupp from 1870-1873. It was home to the Krupp family until the Second World War. It has been open to the public since 1953, and the Kulturstiftung Ruhr (Ruhr Cultural Foundation) organises art exhibitions and concerts. It has 269 rooms and is situated in a 69 acre park.
THE ORGAN OF VILLA HÜGEL, ESSEN, GERMANY
The organ is housed on the northern gallery of the Upper Hall of Villa Hügel. It was built in 1912 by the Aeolian Organ Company from America and was commissioned by Bertha and Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach. The organ was used for house music and at social events.
The instrument was restored and enlarged in 1928 by M. Welte & Söhne (Freiburg). In 2019 there was an overhaul by Klais (Bonn) in 2002 and 2003.
The organ has a console with two manuals and pedals. All registers are enclosed in a swell box and can, almost entirely, be played on both manuals. The organ has a Welte roll apparatus for automatically playing paper rolls, as well as a Midi player, which was added in 2019 so the organ can be demonstrated on tours.

What a thrill for you to have a rare privilege to be invited to play on an historic instrument of such note. You are now part of the legend in European countries where your fame is growing. Well deserved.
The organ has such a sweet, delicate sound. The carvings on the bench are truly great works of craftsmanship. It reminds me of a box that my grandfather had that was carved by a German prisoner in the camp where my grandfather was a guard during WWI in France. That box (about the size of a cigar box) had the same kind of intricate carving done with pride and great care.
Wow, there were some uniquely beautiful passages in there, & it was over too soon. Sigh.
I played this piece many years ago for an audiance on the mighty Father Willis organ at St George's Hall, Liverpool. It's still a favourite.
Wonderful combination of classic organ, superb organist and excellent photography. Thanks for sharing this expertise! ♥️♥️♥️🎹🎹🎹🎼🎼🎼
A very romantic sound, the heritage of Aeolian in theatre organs and Welte & Söhne in orchestrions can be clearly heard.
This organ must be very special to play as not many people get access to it.
As always, what a beautiful treat. Thank you for sharing all your talents with us.
Wonderful to hear this organ, played by the organ master.
Beautiful! Thank you, Jonathan and Tom for sharing this with us!

Beautiful sound on a beautiful organ played by a wonderful musician. Can’t get any better than that. Thanks for the wonderful treat. 🎶
The beautiful organ, and soft music
That must've been from the time before D. Harrison bought the Skinner name so to speak and the Aeolian Organ Co. thereby creating the Aeolian-Skinner Co.!
Such expressive playing! Beautiful visuals! The Scott Brothers never disappoint!
What a beautiful piece, played perfectly on a lovely instrument.
Very beautiful. Sentimental melody. Thank you Jonathan and Tom. Gratitude! 🥰❤🙌👏👋🙏
Its great to hear you playing an Aeolian ! When we eventually get you over to the East Midlands Organ Museum, it would be great to hear you on our Estey residence pipe organ when its up and running, likewise we have an Aeolian left to us in a bequest, of a very similar size to this, however hopefully this is a long time in the future !
Love the gentleness of this theme & your beautiful performance. Thanks for sharing. 💐💐🔔🎹🎶
Very lovely. Thank you for sharing the music and video.
Wow!That was beautiful.
Great music and amazing player !
How unusual!! What an interesting chamber organ! I've never seen one of these before. I enjoyed the piece you played on it. Thank you both for this. xx
Very beautiful!!👏👏👏
This organ has a different sound, right? It must be because it's German, I think ha ha ha❤
Из интереса я прослушала еще несколько разных записей этого произведения на других инструментах . Ваше исполнение на органе самое трогательное .
A beautiful piece and beautiful playing. Thanks, Jonathan, and Tom.
Beautiful sensitive playing. The Aeolian organ has a sound not unlike some of the harmoniums that you play.
Attributed to von Paradis but recognized as a 20th century hoax, possibly composed by Samuel Dushkin. Still, a very nice piece and masterfully arranged and performed.
EDIT: Finally scanned through the rest of the comments and saw that someone had already beaten me to this. Oh, well.
A beautiful piece played on a beautiful instrument. But where are the pipes?
Pipes behind the shutters seen at 0.46
Wrongly ascribed to Maria Theresia von Paradis, who could not possibly have written it. Best to call it Anonymous, though it is possibly by Samuel Dushkin (1891-1976), who "edited" it.
Was there something wrong with the micro or does this organ really soundes like its age? It sound like a very old not maintened pipe organ in a little church somewhere in the outback of Germay..., lovely.🤔❤
That's pretty much what Æolian organs sounded like. The Æolian Company specialized in the manufacture of player organs for use in the home, i.e., millionaires' mansions. In 1932 they merged with the Skinner Organ Company to form the famous Æolian-Skinner company.
