Dude, that’s probably the best way of describing it I've seen or heard yet. I was thinking it would be what a little kid would hear in his head if he was like a young savant with machinery or something weird like that.
In some ways, I still love this more than any future versions of the Marble Machine. The rawness of it, the marbles coming loose, the immediacy of it. Having watched the years of struggle to refine the idea, I'm wondering if something was lost in trying to make it perfect.
This is exactly how I feel. It’s so hard to put into words, but this version of the machine just has that charming, whimsical vibe. The imperfections are what makes it such a magical experience to hear it produce beautiful music. It feels as though it shouldn’t even be possible, and yet, somehow, each component just barely functions enough for the machine to work. A perfect version would be too clinical, it loses that charm and whimsy.
1:30 that is lego parts? I love the design between being I machine operator nurse…therapeutic apheresis nurse/ dialysis nurse and also a weaving loom user this is awesome…as well as being an artist before becoming a nurse. I have never stopped played the flute for 7 years. I certainly know a vibraphone. But even though words are in English on it, this is Scandinavia wood construction. Sweden or Norway perhaps… most certainly not North America…no judgments but i see it. It is my honor to listen to this performance on this day. What a fine piece of engineering this is
The thing that worries me about the Marble Machine X is all the clicking it does. I'm afraid it will ruin the melody. This machine was darn near silent.
Actually, MMX is much quieter compared to the OG Marble Machine. You can hear at different point in this recording the sound of all the gears meshing while MMX is near silent with the gears
I just shared this video with my Bros in Australia with the caption "As you get older in life, you may think you have seen it all...Trust me,you aint" You video is class and I'm so glad I saved it in a play list...❤
@ Wealth? Not sure what you mean by that. Structurally I could afford to build that considering I know how to perform carpentry and metalwork and good at scavenging materials. I also have time on my hands because I'm retired from the 9 to 5 work-a-day world and have been for years since I opened my recording studio. But I started with nothing except hard work, two children and a wife. We weren't even middle class. We skirted the poverty line. Maybe you can elaborate on your comment? Just curious.
I saw it in a museum in utrecht it’s not there anymore though :) I didn’t know it was there when I went and then I saw it and I was like oh shit that’s the fuckin marble machine
they will wonder why such an advanced society were going back 300 years in how to make music. it would be really sad if this was the only video that survived on the entire internet because of some disaster were to befall us all.
You have to be a certified genius to make something like this. I mean the precision of the marbles and instruments has to be perfectly aligned. My mind is blown by this masterpiece
@1:06 with the marbles on the guitar? I know there are smarter people than me in the world but I never imagined by that X factor. Perfectly timed, mind blown.
The thing is… this is a composite work, it took Martin a good… 60+ tries to get all the takes for this… however, he spent the next 6 years creating a better version of the mable machine and he got very far until transitioning to creating a tour ready Marble Machine Y, which is what he’s doing now
@@Setapart_jay Wouldn't that be simply hilarious?🤣🤣🤣🤣 It would be a big achievement if you lugged this thing up to the band. This devise should be used in the event of a first contact with an extraterrestrial intelligent species because it encompasses much of what it really means to be human
This machine will always be the best of all of Martin's attempts to build a "Better Machine". Why? Because this machine was filled with life by being used.
@@quangvinh144 And then we saw him build a machine (MMX) that didn't drop marbles or make a mistake for more than a whole hour. Thats more than enough time to play a song and he scrapped it. Now he is starting to build yet another machine. Even if it did drop some marbles, that would have been a minor problem.
My university professor showed this to us, I never saw it before but im fascinated. The amount of knowledge, craftsmanship and skill it must have taken to build this and make it sound this amazing is incredible.
Still to this day I listen to this and am still impressed. This marble machine has been one of the most impressive and innovative music machines ever. I call this talent. Anybody can pick up and learn to play an instrument but one has true talent to not just play one; but to make an original for them to play an original song with.
I agree with you. As an amateur musician I have had thoughts like "no matter how good I get at guitar, I am still playing someone else's instrument", and even though that doesn't diminish skill at guitar, it is still true

+Dual Edge Gaming I agree, as well. In fact, I find most of the comments irrelevant because they don't address the pure focus, and creativity it took to envsion, much less, construct a device like this. Maybe this is why I rarely comment on sites, and just forward links to people of stuff I think is cool, and they might find the same joy I did watching this.
+pacalou100 The dislike option lets you see exactly what percentage of people dislike a particular thing they are seeing... Instead of going by negative comments, which can be over-represent the negative, you can see that less than 0.5% of people dislike this particular thing... Considering it's hard to get 99.5% of people to agree on something, I would consider that an unqualified success...
Same except week/monthly depending on mood And if you think this is beautiful watch the marble machine x series I especially like the episode when he talks about how disappointed he was with this machine
I've watched it maybe a couple dozen times and just now was the first time I noticed a double marble at 3:46 in the second from the right vibraphone drop.
There are compliments but none fully do justice to this genius. I do not throw that word around but this guy is a design genius. The amount of different talents alone required to create this is impressive enough but the amount of vision and drive to build it put it into the category of genius to me.

In some ways, I still love this more than any future versions of the Marble Machine. The rawness of it, the marbles coming loose, the immediacy of it. Having watched the years of struggle to refine the idea, I'm wondering if something was lost in trying to make it perfect.
something is always lot in pursuit of pertection, but sometimes perfection isnt always perfect, so yeah, i agree with you fully!
it will never not be futuristic.
In some ways this clearly flawed machine impresses in how it managed to perform this feat, despite its flaws. Very human.
Nothing beats first love

I love how the Marble Machine X has gotten so complicated that it makes the original look simple now.
Way too simple nowadays
And then we remembered how complicated the original marble machine was back then.
Omg right
The thing that worries me about the Marble Machine X is all the clicking it does. I'm afraid it will ruin the melody. This machine was darn near silent.
@@SergeantExtreme nah, most of the clicking is filtered out of the music because it's all recorded with contact microphones
Actually, MMX is much quieter compared to the OG Marble Machine. You can hear at different point in this recording the sound of all the gears meshing while MMX is near silent with the gears
I just shared this video with my Bros in Australia with the caption "As you get older in life, you may think you have seen it all...Trust me,you aint"

This is History that should be kept in a Museum.
It has
Yep its on the front of its own museum, its a museum in sweden i think and its main attraction is that.
It was in a museum for a while, but now it's just sitting in a shed while the sequel (the MMX) is being created.
I saw it in a museum in utrecht it’s not there anymore though :) I didn’t know it was there when I went and then I saw it and I was like oh shit that’s the fuckin marble machine
Indiana Jones reference?
"five-fiftyseventy-eighteen hundred" , the amount of marbles my 4 year old has concluded are in this "musical marble run"
Good luck to future historians uncoding this Masterpiece.
They’d think they finally learnt what kind of engineering level we are at and then get hit with this.

it would be really sad if this was the only video that survived on the entire internet because of some disaster were to befall us all.
Good thing that his merch is literally the blueprint(i think)
Yes... excellent...
The thing is… this is a composite work, it took Martin a good… 60+ tries to get all the takes for this… however, he spent the next 6 years creating a better version of the mable machine and he got very far until transitioning to creating a tour ready Marble Machine Y, which is what he’s doing now

agree
+pacalou100 well, if they didnt have it then more hate comments would exist
+Dual Edge Gaming I agree, as well. In fact, I find most of the comments irrelevant because they don't address the pure focus, and creativity it took to envsion, much less, construct a device like this. Maybe this is why I rarely comment on sites, and just forward links to people of stuff I think is cool, and they might find the same joy I did watching this.
+pacalou100 The dislike option lets you see exactly what percentage of people dislike a particular thing they are seeing...
Instead of going by negative comments, which can be over-represent the negative, you can see that less than 0.5% of people dislike this particular thing...
Considering it's hard to get 99.5% of people to agree on something, I would consider that an unqualified success...
the people who disliked were the ones who were completely baffled and couldn't get it. AND DIDN'T LIKE IT XD
