Buy what works for you.
If you can charge at home and have a medium to short commute daily, an EV makes sense.
If you were a plumber, what would you drive? If you lived out in the country and had to drive 100 miles to the city to get supplies what would you drive? If you lived in an apartment and were a rideshare or delivery driver, what would you drive?

@@Trust_but_Verify Believe me,the IRS has made that abundantly clear.I I think it’s very unfair for the government to take larger and larger percentages,,of course until you’re a billionaire ,of the income you work so hard for with these progressive tax laws.I don’t appreciate their careless, profligate ,spending. I work too hard for my money to have it thrown away especially at the rates our Congress enjoys. I’ve noticed it’s so much easier to spend other peoples money than to spend your own, and there seems to be a malignant form of that going on in Congress.
My wife has tesla and I have rivian. we never had any problems. And if you really really smart like you, EV is my choice all day!!!

Also, the problem with charging at night doesnt work for people who live in apartments. I wouldnt want to go to an empty Oakland parking lot in the middle of the night to charge.
The average home uses 900kw per month. that 1.9Kw per waking hour(16 hours). 1 Supercharger uses 250Kw per hour. 1 supercharger uses as much as 125 homes in an hour.
8 Superchargers use as much as 2 megawatts or 1000 typical homes. Then you imaging all the people living in apartments wanting to charge on their way home from work on a hot summer day. The grid wont be ready by 2035.
I love it when people (who have absolutely no firsthand knowledge) tell me that I will need to upgrade the electric service at my house. Completely false. I installed a Level 2 charger that uses a 240V 40-amp dryer plug. I didn't need to touch the panel or the utility service. They will completely make stuff up. I love that you are calling out the BS.
I’ve owned a R1T for over a year now and haven’t had any problems to date and my main point is to say I’ve charged outside of my home only on 2 occasions and those were both road trips. I am completely happy with my purchase.

I agree with you 100%! I’m 72 years old and I’m doing my research on a Tesla Model Y and contemplating buying one for the very same reasons you stated. I too am not a member of the “New Green Deal” crowd. However, there is one component of their argument that I do agree with is the fact that fossil fuels are finite. It takes millions of years to make a lump of coal or a drop of oil and us humans are using the stuff faster than it can be replenished. Yes there are hydroelectric and nuclear sources of electricity but 70% of the electricity produced in the U.S. comes from fossil fuel powered generators. There will be a point of time, although not in my lifetime, that Mother Earth will roll over and say, “Alright guys, I’m done lactating, you’ve sucked me dry! Now go get yourselves some horses”. Everyone’s situation is different. I live in north Florida in a house where I can install a 240 volt charger in my garage. I currently have solar panels on the roof of my house and throughly enjoy the reduction in my utility bill! I’m also thinking about installing a power wall in my garage powered by solar panels on the garage roof. If I do that then I’ll be totally off the grid as I’ll be using electricity that I produce. I currently own a two seat Porsche that cost me $50 every time I fill it up. In my city the cost per kilowatt hour is .14 and a half cents. It would cost me about $10 to $12 to max charge a 310 mile long range Tesla model Y. EV’s are making more sense to me every day with their low maintenance and cheep power source.

Please do keep in mind that EV technology concerning lighter, longer-lasting, and environment-friendly batteries will improve over time, as well as expanding the charging infrastructure and finding enough power for the grid. Should we really believe people will still be driving gas-powered vehicles in 50 years?

Awesome!!!! There are so many hate/discourage myths out there. I live in GA, and I have received same benefits you have. My insurance went down, my electric went down because of me being an EV owner. I installed a home wall charger and that is even safer when installed right because the wall charger has its own dedicated 60amp breaker and the wall charger will not let you go above 48amp to keep the circuit safe. People should just buy what works for them and let others enjoy what works best for them. I have owned several nice well-maintained Gas/ICE cars before I purchased my 1st EV. it was so much cheaper to own, ease of maintaining than my Gas car, which ended up sitting more than it needed and still cost more to properly maintain the Gas car which was driven less than the EV. Because of the savings and owner cost of driving it. I sold the gas/ICE and upgraded my EV to a newer version and now I only have the EV. If i were to ever buy another GAS/ICE car it will be strictly an emotional joy purchase just to have. other than that, I will not go back to a gas/ICE car. My EV works GREAT!!! for me.

and here in california when the heat wave comes they say dont charge your EV and dont use AC i bet soon california will charge people 5 bucks and hour to use the sun if you have solar panels.... SUN TAX FEE

Power grids are now being supported by sustainable energy, preventing rolling blackouts supporting the grid! A lot of EV chargers use sustainable energy. You got to love these foolish people! Ignorance is bliss!!!
I'm a new, CPO EV owner, 22 Etron, and I love it. With that being said, I also still own a modded 04 GTO and mildly modified Jeep. The convince of charging at home is great but the availability and reliability of fast charging in less populated areas is still a small issue if I need to travel into East Texas to see my family.
Things I would like to be better about charging on the road :
Have more at gas stations or convenience stores that way I could possibly prepay at the register when I go in like when I get gas normally or if I don't want to download another app for a charging service.
Also covered parking for the chargers!! Nothing is more irritating to in my short ownership is on a trip trying plug into a DCFC in a downpour.
I have been driving an ev since 2017 after i totaled my 12 yr old prius! I bought a used fiat 500e to get my feet wet…….if it had better range (only 87 miles) i would have been very happy……i wasn’t able to go many places because there were not enough places to charge!. Well I got my new tesla last year & i am very happy!!! My maintenance has been very little compared to the ice cars…. You will pay for windshield wipers, windshield wiper fluid, tires, & cabin filters….thats about it! My electricity to charge the car is about $67/mo……. It’s much cheaper to charge at home…….i wake up to a full charge every day!!! If you charge at low peak time in florida…..it’s about .13cents/kilowatt hour! Superchargers are cheap….but it’s based on the hour you charge….so that would be from .26cent-.47cents/kilowatt hour!!! The car is much safer than the ice vehicles as it’s very heavy…..i drive flawlessly in rain…. I’m very happy with my choice!

Which cars are most likely to catch fire?
A report by US-based Autoinsurance EZ actually suggested hybrids were the most likely to catch fire, with 3,474.5 instances per 100,000 vehicle sales, followed by ice (1,529.9/100k) and then EV (25.1/100k)
You are correct; and there other studies that support the claim that BEV are the least likely to catch fire while hybrids have the highest risk by far.

Hey Duke, like the channel. However I think you, like many EV owners show a bit of hive thinking. For one, there have been 3 public EV buses in London that have caught fire in 2 weeks. So it’s not as uncommon as you make it seem. Especially considering that EVs are very new vehicles compared to the typical ICE vehicle that will catch fire.
Secondly I want to challenge your idea that large ICE manufacturers are deliberately tanking the EV market. Not much logic in that idea. But I still subbed
@@Chris-8.9 Hello, Thanks for commenting! I am only basing my information on the facts and data that currently exist. That may change if the future, but as of now, all of the data shows that fires are a lot less likely to occur in BEVs.
As far as the ICE manufactures are concerned, all you have to do is look at their actions. I predicted this over 6 months ago in a TH-cam video series called: The Pretenders, The Fakers, and The EV Makers. So, even if my logic is off, my prediction is spot on, and no one else was talking about this at that time.

As I alluded to, comparing a small sample size of new vehicles that belong primarily to the well off (Will generally maintain vehicles more), to Cars 20 , 30, 40 years old; mainly multi-owned vehicles is not Apples to apples.
Re your prediction. Well Duke we all know that correlation does not equal causation. If we follow the money …you would have to explain Teslas dropping their prices and still not being able to sell. The reality I think is that the demand is not there… neither is the infrastructure. What are your thoughts on Tesla btw .. not a Muskrat?

I never had any interest in the Lightning, it's just an electrified F-150. The Rivian was designed from the ground up to be electric and it fits my lifestyle much better.
Power isn't wasted at night, because they only generate as much power as is needed.
I'm 58 and own a Model Y. These things are the real deal. A little adjustment in my daily life and what a pleasure it's been. I think charging at home is a must. My kids all want them but without houses it really doesn't make sense. But , hey, your EV is a scam. I'll take it off your hands for $.20 on the dollar...😄
Oh, and I have done a cost analysis Charging the Model Y at home VS our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Gas would need to drop to $0.79 per gallon to break even. This counting fuel only and not oil changes etc... Now, compare that to using my 2017 F350 Dually as a commuter? Different isn't even in the same realm.

Ever since the 1970s standing in line, waiting to get gas, I was wishing for electric cars. It was more about not giving my money to the Middle East.
I'm the exact opposite of you. I love my ice cars. I love the cold starts, rowing through the gears, and I actually prefer the analog experience. I would never try to convince you to go back to ice cars. You like what you like. I don't think it's a scam at all. As for the fires you are 100% correct. The only challenge with the EV fires is the fire depts have not developed consistent technique for thermal run off.
ICE cars are cool, I just like electric better. Just like some people prefer manual transmissions.

@@thedukeofmanville Facts? Ok, EZ PZ. As of Sept 1, 2023, Texas charges an additional $400 EV registration for the first year, and $200 yearly after that. TH-cam comments aren't friendly to links and you get banned and such for doing it, but this is easily googleable. Texas taxes gas at $0.20 a gallon. Easily googleable. Average American drives about 15,000 miles a year. googleable. Take a car that gets 30mpg (like a Camry) over that 15,000 miles and that driver will be paying $100 a year in gas taxes. Easy math. So for one of the biggest and most populated states in the US, EVERY electric vehicle driver, on average, will be paying QUADRUPLE taxes for the first year, and only DOUBLE taxes every year after than their gas driving counterparts. Its punitive in nature and has nothing to do with funding roads, cause as we know the entire budget is fungible anyways. At this stage in the game its simply a mechanism to slow down adoption.

I like the research, however isn’t it also true that EVs are more “ taxing” on the roadways due to their weight. Also if/when there is an accident it requires more nuanced approaches from fire/rescue. ?
@@Chris-8.9 To be clear we are now changing the subject in search for a justification for why EVs should pay more than gas car. The issue of weight and EVs is a complete myth made up to hinder EV adoption. The weight required to damage roads is much much greater than your typical passenger vehicle will reach. Did you know that the BMW 3 series weighs about the the same as a Tesla model 3? Sometimes even MORE. Go look at their curb weights. I don't recall any arguments being raised over the last 40 years about BMW 3 series damaging our roads and we urgently must tax them more, but as soon as we have EVs... man its time to start thinking about weight. I don't believe even the ridiculous soon to be discontinued Hummer EV which is 9,000 lbs has any measurable impact to your standard road. Tractor trailers can have a GVWR of 80,0000 lbs. This does by far the most damage to roads and is what roads must be built to withstand. As far as vehicle fires, EVs do present a different challenge for dealing with them, and to that i would say good thing they are an order of magnitude less likely to catch fire and that rate is STILL going down with every generation. Its an over blown topic and is definitely not a justification to tax people more for EVs than ICE cars.
I've been thinking about an EV, Bolt or similar. But from everything I see, they're great if you can charge at home and use around town. On trips, no thanks. It's more expensive to public charge and for me to drive my 15 Gold TDI which routinely gets 50+++ on the highway. And I don't have to wait to charge.
I've charged probably 50 times at Superchargers and have never waited. Unless you're in a heavily populated metro area (e.g. LA), this metric is vastly overblown. 20%-80% typical charge time at a SC or RAN (R1T) is 25 minutes and runs about $25 give or take. But keep in mind 90% of your driving will likely involve charging at home at night when the rates are low(er). Home charging is such an underrated benefit. Even charging on the road is super easy...just plug-in and charge. No CCs, pins, apps..... nothing. There are enough RANs and SCs out west I don't need EVgo, EA, ChargePoint, etc. Bolt is a good choice for urban driving but the 55 kW charging speed means long road-trip charging times. Perhaps consider the Hyundai Ionic 5.

OBTW, on average, 171,000 gas vehicles fires each year. My wife loves her model Y Tesla.
Duke, Your right and I agree with you, 15 MPG = 15 MPGe but some interesting things happen when we convert to some other units of measure. Gasoline is 13% hydrogen ( mass ) and 87% carbon ( mass ) 1 gallon has a mass of 2.85769 kg, it contains 0.3714997 kg of hydrogen at 12.3833 kwh. Dividing 15 MPG by 2.85769 we get 5.25 miles per kilogram of gasoline. Dividing 15 MPG by 0.3714997 we get 40.38 miles per kilogram of hydrogen. If we divide 5.25 by 13% we get the same answer 40.38 MPK of hydrogen. If we divide 15 by 12.3833 we get 1.21 miles per kwh, If we divide 40.38 by 33.333 again we get 1.21 miles per kwh. Lets do your Rivian 96 miles divided by 43 kwh is 2.233 miles per kwh. 2.233 * 12.3833 = 27.65 miles per gallon of gasoline. 2.333 * 33.333 = 74.42 MPK of hydrogen. That’s 74.42 miles per kilogram of hydrogen, NOT 74.42 miles per gallon of gasoline. when we change the label to 74.42 miles per gallon of gasoline, that’s called fraud
and that is what the EPA is doing when they stick that imaginary MPGe sticker on it.

I am a critic of forced EV, however I do appreciate your channel. Do you own any solar panels? I think the combination of solar with battery operated items can be a great thing! Charging a car off coal is still an issue for the green vision.
I drove EV since 2011 and once I bought a house in 2013 I installed solar panels. The panels paid for themselves in 6 years simply because it's helping pay for utility and EV energy cost at the same time. Though PG&E in California had caught on and really raised the utility for solar owners. I think you're looking at 10+ years for panels to pay for themselves now.
@@lanzer22 I look at solar as a way to be able to produce electricity in a grid down situation. Yeah it may take a bit to “pay themselves off” but being able to harvest electricity by myself is my main goal.
@@coreybikes by the way if you wish to use solar when the grid is down, you’ll need to include a home battery. It’s extra cost but it’s a great backup device.

Yep, you hit on the magic formula. I have a R1T and a Y along with solar and three Powerwalls. About 8 months a year my electricity bill is $17/month, the grid tie-in minimum. So, most of the time I'm operating the vehicles and the house for practically free. Of course, that took a significant capital expenditure which will take another 5 years to reach break-even. I would encourage anyone who is going EV to take the next step and invest in solar if possible. My next infrastructure step will be to add V2H from the R1T if and when Rivian provides such. That would be like having 10 Powerwalls at full charge. You could power your entire house for many days during a severe outage.

Man I wish I could afford one of those Rivian R1T's. Looks like an awesome vehicle with awesome technology. At 58, I can withdraw a bit from my IRA next year without penalty to make it happen. Right now Tesla, Rivian, and perhaps Hyundai/Kia are the only manufacturers of BEV's I'd trust right now. I've been partial to Tesla but the more you share your Rivian with us the more I'm starting to like it. Thanks for sharing your insights, bro!
We have a Tesla and a Rivian. The Rivian is much better built. Rivian is announcing a smaller/more affordable R2 vehicle on March 8th, I'd wait and see for tbat.

I love my EV. For me, compared to an ICE machine it's much cheaper. I charge it at home, and it hasn't affected my electric bill much at all. Where new cars in AZ costs a hell of a lot for registration. Typically, around $400 a year. I paid $45 for 5 years. I got a tax rebate, plus money back from my electricity provider. One nice thing, I don't have to bother with oil changes and typical maintenance of an ICE machine. In time, EVs will take over when battery technology improves. I can't wait until all these ICE buckets are off the road. Oil companies are doing a great job influencing the American public with their corporate propaganda. Obviously, they are trying to keep their deep pockets full. EVs are a threat to their inflated profit margin. We Americans for the longest while keep playing catch-up to the rest of the world. In China the EV market is taking off like a storm, and across Europe. But, as usual, we will continue to lag behind.
In 100,000 miles of owning a combustion vehicle you will spend $1200 on oil changes. What a financial burden! An EV vehicle initial purchase costs average is $15k higher than a than gas car. Where is the savings? The amount of interest you pay on the EV loan would pay for oil changes in an ICE vehicle. When the battery goes bad on an EV, I will be nice and say it's $10,000 (when we both know its way more). The cost to replace the gas engine with labor is half the cost of just a battery alone. It would be nice if the EV morons who think they know anything about anything would shut the hell up.
Would you buy a new battery after your warranty over or get rid of it. A gentleman in Saskatchewan Canada had a 2017 Nissan leaf warranty was over. He wasn't going to pay $50.000 plus taxes added to $60.000. Batteries costs double the price of the Nissan leaf
A new Nissan Leaf battery 🔋 is $6500.00 to $7500.00 installed. You may be mixing that up with the Hyundai Ionic 5 battery replacement cost that was damaged in an accident.
@thedukeofmanville it was a older Nissan leaf the guy had in Saskatchewan Canada. He told the insurance company to take the insurance off it and he junk it. He said he wasn't going to pay 50.000 plus taxes 60.000 for the batteries. Everything in Canada costs more than the US
Current 100kwh Model S battery is around $18K and expected to drop in half by the end of the decade (before the Rivoan warranty expires). The Rivian is 133kwh. Doubt I'll keep the vehicle that long anyways as I generally want some new tech that's out by year 6 or 7.
@Syitalian25 Some manufacturers coming out with new technology every year. I always thought that every EV manufacturer using the same batteries. In the last 7 months there been 6 EV fire, the last one was Christmas night in Alabama. It been on two US TV online News. One news article was shown in Canada
@@bobjohnston5527 BEV or PHEV? 99% of "EV" fires are hybrids - news channels report them as EVs because the avergae person doesn't know the difference, BTW there have been 6 ICE car fires in the USA over the course of watching this video - almost 200,000 per year.
Have you taken any long road trips?
I do the 1200 mile Sydney-Melbourne-Sydney trip regularly - it's faster and cheaper in my model 3 Tesla than the Audi A4 it replaced.

I love my Tesla 3 and I am far from the green agenda. It’s looks good, it’s fast and I plug it in when I get home. Convenient.
I have a model S and it's the best vehicle I've ever own. People have to own one to appreciate it, I charge overnight at home every 5 days. Love not having to pump or buy gas & no oil changes.
The people that don't like EVs have never owned one.

@@melvinholland9656 The point is that top down, one size only, government mandated, feel good solutions aren’t a solution for everyone. Not everyone has a single family home with a picket fence where they can put solar on a roof or a charger in their garage. Most people in Seattle park on the streets and can’t own their chargers there Also, I currently live in WA. Solar irradiance doesn’t work well with solar panels when there are clouds and trees in the way. Then there are the northern tier states in fly-over country that get so cold that cars won’t charge. Did you miss the recent Chicago news?

I bought an E bike over the summer and it was the smartest thing I ever did.
That's not saying much if that's the smartest thing you ever did.
One thing EV owners and sellers are going to find hard to deal with is Africa starting to demand their fair share of the pie as they move more and more towards controlling all of their natural resources. What is this going to do to the prices of EVs and replacement battery cost?
As for me hydrogen is the way to go as you start with water and you end with water all the while cleaning the air as the vehicle is operated. This is a win win but those that sell energy are dead set against the technology as the end user simply will not need them anymore for much of anything. For the technology I'm working on all that will be needed in the tank is water and away you go.

Duke, here's the thing, a fixed amount of energy is required to move from point A to point B. The quantity of fuel is variable but the energy is not. In a previous video you compared the cost to charge your Rivian with a gas powered vehicle that was getting 15 MPG of gasoline. Did you ever try to calculate the MPGe ( miles per gallon equivalent ) for this gas powered vehicle?
Currently a full charge in the Rivian costs me $31.39 at my home rate of $0.236 per kWh. A Ram TRX 15 MPG on premium @ $4.75/gallon would cost $95 to go those same 300 miles.

A gallon of gas contains about 33.7kwh of energy, when you get 15mpg you are using 2.24kwh per mile or get 0.44miles per kwh, that's about 1/12th of the miles per kwh my Tesla model 3 gets.
I get 5.5miles per Kwh from my Model 3, if it was running off gas that would be 5.5x33.7 = 185 MPGe, i.e. I would need to get 185MPG from a gasoline car to use the same amount of energy per mile.
$4 a gallon = 11.8c per kwh equivalent. $4/15mpg = 26.7c per mile
5.5miles per kwh at 11.8c per kwh = 2.145c per mile
Guess what?
26.7 / 2.145 (cost per mile) is the same as 185 / 15 (miles per gallon equivalent) if the cost per kwh is the same.

I've owned vehicles since age 13 so for 45 years I have never had a vehicle fire But 2 houses down from me the house was a complete loss do to his volt going up in flames The cause of ICE vehicle fires is usually not from fuel leak ignition where EV's main cause is from the battery I think EV's are very expensive currently I really wish a manufacturer would make a simple, basic EV with a 500 mile battery in a full size truck heck even a sedan But it seems all mfg-rs are hell bent on excessive electronics and lights with high end luxury amenities Right now the vehicle cost is way high, insurance is way high if you can get it I did talk to my agent about this so its not a opinion the cost of adding a out let at your house and limited range is why these EV's are sitting on lots
A Volt is a hybrid not a BEV. As I have stated many times hybrids have the highest fire risk while BEVs have the lowest. I owned 2 Volts for over 12 years, so I have actual experience.
Also, the Chevy Silverado EV has 450-500 miles of range. And have you looked a the price of trucks lately? Many are a lot more expensive than EV trucks even without the crazy dealer markups.

60% in 12yr is pretty ambitious. I don’t think it’s logical to assume that, considering we are only like 2% ev owners in the US currently. I get more people will buy them over time. I think an ev is a right tool for the job kind of thing. Use your ev on short drives and gas for your farther drives. I’m an EV tech so I benefit if people buy them. But the government push to have 100% by 2035 is comical. Let the market decide.

As for EVs your number is the highest I’ve seen. I’ve mostly seen 0.86 - 2%. All the number I’m quoting are for registered vehicles in the US as of 2024. So 6% seems high based off the numbers I’m seeing based registered cars. But hey I could be wrong and I’m looking at the numbers wrong.

I took my EV back, it's just not a thrill for me. Yeah it rides nice and it's quiet, but so do a lot of other cars. It's just ho hum for me even with all the tech, which I rarely use. And all the spyware. The Rivian looks good and would probably be my choice, but I'm just not there yet. Ice for me

I plan on getting an EV one day. Ive decided to wait until honda offers an EV Accord. Theyre almost there but not yet. I trust Honda builds more than any other car company.
Honda never made a ev . Making a good ev is way harder than making a good gas car be warned.

My P100D will carry my six kids, cost 45k, and goes 0-60 in 2.2 seconds. My other choice was a minivan so it wasn’t a hard decision for me. I’m the most right wing person you could possibly imagine so it’s disappointing to see so many on the my side be so gullible lol.
EVs have their purpose, and its mostly for people who are relatively well off. If you have a garage, and dont need to charge at Superchargers. Then its perfect. But we have states like CA and VA mandating that all cars sold in 2035 are EVs. It will be a disaster for the grid and people who live in apartments and condos.
The other reason I think people are rallying against EVs ,are the tax incentives. As a tax paying citizen, I dont want to subsidize cars for people who are who are making up to $300K. We cant afford the federal school lunch program to fight childhood hunger, but here is $7500 for the wealthy to buy an $80000 truck.

In Australia (a relatively small country by comparison to the USA) the fossil fuel industry recieved $11.1 Billion dollars in subsidies and tax breaks in 2022 alone and has been consistent (actually previously higher) for many decades, it's just not obvious like the reduction on purchase prices of new cars - the incentives on EV's here pales into insignificance compared with the benefit provided to fossil fuel by the taxpayers of Australia.
@@TB-up4xi In the US, its 20B in incentives, but you must know the price of oil affects everything. So there is a genuine reason for it, though I dont think its needed or deserved.
As far as EVs are concerned, Tesla sold 1.8M cars last year. If half qualified for the credit, then that is $7500*900000. Then you have to add all the incentives for solar and wind and coal and fuel to generate electricity. I am sure its pretty significant as well.
EVs are heavier than ICE because of the battery. EVs lose more value than ICE according to the Blue Book. You have to be careful about using the battery juice for radio and heating/AC in extreme weather conditions. EVs are "convenient" only if you can charge your car at home, and if travelling for a long distance, must limit your adventure to only the routes where charging stations are available. EVs take a lot more time to charge, while ICE simply needs to have its tank filled. EVs have a shorter range for road trips. Changing the battery can cost between $5,000.00 and $20,000.00. Charging the EV can be a bit difficult during a power outage, and if you have a dumb cluck for a governor, you'll experience rolling blackouts while not bothering to improve the infrastructure to meet the demands for more electricity. When your EV battery gets old and fails to start, you can't jump start it. Lithium batteries are brought to you by slave labor in China. EVs DO NOT "save" the planet. EVs are safe only because they're already on the ground, but Heaven help us if somebody thinks it's a good idea to make all-electric aircraft.
The loss in value is misleading because they are not taking into account State and Federal tax credits which can be as much as $11,500 in my state, and even more in other states. Also, much a the value loss is because Tesla cut their prices by 30%. Now you won't have to guess how much the "average" EV depreciated.
I wonder how the presenter thinks power is generated at night or when there is cloud cover and solar is useless. You certainly can’t depend on windmills. Yes, that’s right, it’s almost entirely fossil fuels, unless you happen to live in a region that has dependable hydroelectric or geothermal.
With battery storage systems you can store energy from the day to use it in the evenings. This would take a significant load off the grid.

Let me assure you that saving the environment has nothing to do with it. :) Having electric cost 1/5 of the price of gas per mile is nice, having solar panels at home which drive prices further down is even nicer. Your math is flawed. Your forgot the cost of the solar panels, the time you spend waiting for it to charge (hourly rate x time), the cost of public charging stations, the cost of replacing tires + brakes more frequently, the cost of higher insurance rates and the cost of higher than normal depreciation on your EV (horrible resale value) equates to costing a lot more than a ICE car.

I installed panels in 2013 and they’ve paid for themselves in 6 years. The insurance thing is a myth as Metromile and Tesla insurance both have great rates. I didn’t even mention all the maintenance cost that I used to pay when I had my Maxima. I think that one get to talk about EV life if one actually lived it. I plug the car in when I got home, no more wasting time at the gas station. Do you know much much time I saved? The Tesla has 300 mile range, I haven’t been to a public station in 2 years since we haven’t had a road trip in a while. Regen brake means my brakes will last almost forever, and my 2011 Leaf still has original brakes. You know these stuff once you actually own a EV. I know EV have great torque so I don’t drive like a maniac to preserve my tires. That’s yet another myth like somehow a heavier car means bye bye tires when there are plenty of other heavy SUV and trucks on the road. How exactly do you propose that people who do not live in a single family house with a charger are going to charge their vehicles at night?

I have owned a Volt and 2 newer Tesla's. There are so many good things about an EV, but there are downsides. For me, the downsides outweigh the upsides, so I am back to ICE and much happier. I am not anti-EV, but I am anti lies, whether they are for or against EV's. What I can tell you is that so many people are working overtime to make lies and twist the truth to hide the downsides. I believe the writing is on the wall that the latest EV movement to get everyone on EV's is already a massive failure. They failed 100 years ago, and they are failing for much the same reasons. The battery and motor and electronic improvements still haven't solve the same issues that killed EV movements of the past. Sorry.

Just wait until your forced to get an approved charger for your house. You'll either lease it or pay a large sum. It'll be internet connected they'll track every kw and tax you on it. There is a problem with the fire statistics EVs vs Gasoline cars. Sure gas cars have more fires overall but most of them are not critical and can even be repaired. They just go into the statistics. On the other other hand EV fires are critical and can be fatal and create huge property damage. Just look at repair shops...they are welding and flame torching on gas cars without a problem for repair. You can not do this with an EV. The truth is that gasoline car fires are "safer" than an electrical car fire. Can you imagine a fire bakes out in parking garage full of EVs. Further lithium in these batteries react to any moisture not only sea salt water. If I would ride a Tesla through a foot of standing water that would give me anxiety for month after. EVs need a different battery technology and than they will be fine. :)

The reaction is exothermic, which means it releases heat. Formation of a Basic Solution: The reaction between lithium and water produces lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and hydrogen gas (H2).
