Especially during the 2007 automotive crisis, several photos of vast car storage areas became a symbol of the industry's decline. The story quickly spread - yet it was nothing more than an urban legend! The fact that new cars are parked in large quantities at ports, test tracks, and other locations is not due to a crisis or overproduction, but solely because new vehicles need to be stored somewhere temporarily before being delivered or shipped."

The only thing that surprised me about the abandoned cars is that the local police, in need of quick revenue, didn't send people out to ticket every one of them for illegal parking.
Haha! Reminds me of a Sergio Aragones, small print joke in MAD Magazine. There are these trucks that carry the new vehicles from the manufacturing site to the dealers. Well, one of them is parked illegally and the police gives a ticket not only to the truck, but to every brand new car that is on that truck! :-)

And all it would take... is just for their government to step in, and sell these bikes/cars at affordable prices to the public. Not even in the Soviet Russia, has it ever been done this way. Is it though? Sounds a lot like western spun propaganda when not everything is compared properly against each other, which works best when mixed in with some actual facts (like the bikes and EVs). Recently; "China biggest carbon emission" when data from what I'd consider a far less biased statistical site shows US (and Canada, and Australia, and several others) ranking far higher if you account for "per capita". And in this one; it's only China doing something bad for mining or utilizing child/slave labor, when western corporations are *MORE* than happy to exploit this for as long as they can despite being fully aware of it. Yes I agree, China bad, China sucks, Communism sucks, blablabla... But so do we, and that is never reflected upon! Africa is headed for humanitarian catastrophes ahead, and it's our fault, *ALL* of us, not limited to China and their exploitative methods.
A real news organisation wouldn't be able to put this video out because he's also wrong. Look further down, most of those cars are not new, they're over 12 years old.
@@Ankit-pb8mg nothing would surprise me anymore, even if you're joking, you could be spot on. I wish people in our Congress weren't so chummy with the CCP
@JonySmith-bb4gx not all the materials are Chinese. Some of it is. And that's for the supply chain to be good. Plus the american company supervises every step of the supply line to ensure that the job is well done and not junk like most of Chinese made stuff. So no, it's an American device.
Thank you for your continued exposure of how corrupt China truly is! It is #2 heading to the bottom quickly. Their collective approach to business has been shown as a massive failure. Keep up the great work.
China's imports and more importantly, exports have taken a massive hit and are still sinking. Their economy is on life support and the CCP will make Japan's "Lost Decade" look like a weekend at the beach. Tofu projects (BRI/mainland) will not save it any longer. Chinese citizens should run as fast as possible for the exits.
One note. It's most likely the batteries are LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) as they are the main battery of CATL and BYD, easy to mass produce and don't use the conflict minerals like NCA or other cobalt based chemistry. What's messed up is those batteries (god I hope they were stripped out before being parked) could be repacked into containers and literally power villages upon villages for more than 20 years. That is the main tragedy!
The lithium is still very precious. So much that recycling lithium batteries will be like a "gold rush". So in the west, old bad lithium batteries are hunted down as a resource, in China the fresh good batteries are thrown out to rot!
I wouldn't worry too much, as soon as people know that it's worth something, they will go and get the batteries or metals from these cars and re sell it. The old people living in my flat always check the garbage and take plastic bottles and cardboard that they resell. Will be the same with these cars I believe, as long as one dude finds out how to make money with it.

Nightmare is an understatement really. It's probably just gonna take ONE car catching fire to set off rest of them. The flames are going to be hot enough to jump that river and that whole town/city is gonna be toast.
Great video. I've been to China a half dozen times on extended business trips where I had time to travel and sightsee, and every time I come back and tell my friends and family and co-workers the stories of the insanities that I've seen there, and people hardly believe me. Superhighways with no cars on them. Massive residential building complexes that would dwarf the burroughs of New York - rotting and unfinished and empty. Huge industrial complexes and warehouses - abandoned. The amount of money spent in China on unused and unfinished rotting infrastructure boggles the mind. You have to go there and see it to believe it. The bicycles and electric cars in this video are like a tiny pebble in a landfill compared to the other abandoned infrastructure. And despite what some in the comments are saying about it being privately owned - it's not true! The money shell game in China starts with the CCP, printing renminbi, loaning it out to party aligned "investors" who use the money to attract more investors, build a bunch of shit like this, skim profits along the way, then abandon it all. There's no system there for dealing with it. There's no timely or authoritative bankruptcy court to sell off the assets and recoup money for investors. The cars aren't sitting on land owned by a holding company that owns the land and vehicles, or that leases the land to store them. The assets literally belong to no one. The state is too corrupt and dysfunctional to acquire the assets and sell them off as we would do in the USA. The shell game is like sending crypto to a burn address: print money, loan it, acquire investors, spend the money on infrastructure (while skimming profits), then the infrastructure becomes 0x0000 and rots.
Some of the cars in that field of Kandis (the ones with the shield logo) are quite old. The k10c is based off of the smart car knockoff made by the Huoyon Electrombile Corp, which started production around 2006-2008. They were built using chasis made for kids toys not able to go over 10mph and used fiberglass bodies built by scaling up an imported model of a first generation smart car. Basically, if you got in any kind of accident you were screwed. They actually sold some here under the Kandi, Flybo, and Wildfire brands, but thank God they were speed limited to 25mph. Because of their age and cheap production they used lead acid batteries, which while more recyclable and less combustible than Li-ion, which is used in New EVs, it is my understanding that lead acid is more detrimental to the environment if not dealt with properly. Also, you recall how I said they sold some here? That ultimately never panned out because the cars were total crap, and now there are some lots here in America full of abandoned Chinese EVs.
EVs are a Ponzi scam in themselves. there's no doubt about it. They'll never replace the thermic and hybrid cars like the ones we use today. At best it's a dead end technology and the western governments are pushing them down our throats to comply with the WEF agenda (since they were trained by the WEF themselves) to eventually sell off their country to the next economic power that be.
No one makes a living ripping these batteries out and reselling them? Like that's so much money in parts... tires wheels, seats, literally everything. So wasteful
I lived in Shanghai in 2016 when the shared bicycle craze took off. As someone who is experienced in manufacturing and inventory control, I could see that this scheme would never work. Without even considering the absurdly low prices, the problem of inventory management and maintenance is massive. At IBM in San Jose, we would lose valuable stuff on our own campus! How much easier to lose bicycles across all of Shanghai or other Chinese cities. Within 5 seconds I could see that this scheme was doomed to failure and waste. Why couldn't the Chinese government see the most obvious thing?
@@fs5775 Per Thomas Sowell, it's called "vision". Unconstrained vision refers to Pan-Marxist's unrealistic solutions. Obviously CCP has never left the Pan-Marxist's campus. Constrained vision refers to practical solutions.
absolutely surreal. the discarded bikes and cars also don't show the massive amount of resources, energy and time that went into producing those goods in the first place. the true environmental cost to create and then discard is staggering. it's beyond infuriating. it's really really sad.

It’s not even remotely close to being the same thing. One is a fascist genocidal nation state with a population of over 1.5 billion people destroying our planet faster than at any other point in world history, and the other is a civil dispute between two companies wherein neither side wants to eat more costs than it has to. This has been my biggest beef with environmentalist activism. They constantly make demands for their home countries in the West to make sacrifices for their cause, with their primary target being regular people just trying to make their regular commutes. Even if such mass scale changes were made in the west, the net effect and benefit would be miniscule. But when it comes to nations like China, where this sort of pollution is off the charts? Their silence is deafening.

@@rudolffabrie3233 A country needs manufacturing. It needs to make things so it can learn and effectively solve its own problems. The US should have never allowed companies to offload manufacturing to foreign countries. Second, the Chinese are not and never will be the Japanese or Koreans period. Both instill quality and consistency. The US does the same because of regulations. China just doesn’t care. Third, it’s insulting that any company actually go so far to use Chinese ingredients in medicine and food. They have no rules or regulations. - This why some medicine has QC issues and makes people sick. - This is exactly why and how COVID-19 spread. Not to mention - every single thing China makes breaks. From imported Sofa’s to Water Guns - it fails or breaks costing US consumers billions. Amish furniture doesn’t fail. I wonder why? Ah, it seems the Chinese haven't quite grasped the art of deceiving investors the way we Westerners have. Instead of taking the easy route of forging sales numbers and shamelessly lying about their products being the next big thing, they actually go the extra mile and build entire cities filled with ghostly apparitions and graveyards for cars and bicycles. Kudos to them for their dedication to the craft! I remember working in a car hire firm in the channel island of Jersey in the '70s. The hire cars were often sold at a loss by car companies to increase the apparent sales of a particular model. After a short life as a hire car, they went onto the second hand market.
They often lose money on their entry level gas sipper cars because they need a fleet average miles per gallon for government standards. Yet not many people buy them. Some years back Ford flooded the market with cheap tauruses at a loss. They were good cars for the money. You can get an economy car brand new for $12,000 or $14,000 if you look where a regular model only slightly bigger is $30,000.
Thank you for showing this. Nevertheless, have a look at the GM EV1 story. The electric vehicles were taken from the people who had rented and they were brought to a desert and destroyed.

I would not be surprised if those "cars" actually have no batteries or other crucial parts, needed for them to be drivable. Much like those whole neighborhoods with huge condominiums that were never intended to be lived in, so they lacked piping, electric cables, heating, etc. They were intended and build as "an investment assets".
So are you saying they were pushed, towed or lifted into place by forklift. And how did they load them onto the transporters to get them to the fields. I'd be interested to know if they don't actually function.

I worked at Geely for a year back in the days and despite the mess the scale of it is truly mind-boggling. Never going back.
This happens across the world. Our local council bought dozens of electric vehicles solely because of tax incentives, when those incentives are no longer in place they will go back to the ( more reliable and convenient) diesel vehicles. It's always about the money, it's been about money from the beginning, not 'saving the planet'.
@@andrewwebb624 Yeah sure, people around the world are only using gas and diesel because someone pays them to use it, right? Do you even know what the word subsidies means?
@@psevenson Do you know what subsidies means? In Australia the fossil fuel industry gets $15 billion a year in subsidies. Farmers, mining and transport get a 40% subsidy on their fuel.
@@BatMan-oe2gh That's not subsidising, it's called tax reduction. You know that fossil fuels are heavily taxed, right? Even if the consumer get tax reduction, the producer of the fuel doesn't get any subsidise: they still have to bear their own cost for producing and delivering the fuel. Now compare this with for example the electric wind power industry that doesn't have to bear its own cost and gets direct subsidising to produce the electricity. That's the difference.
That's really painful to see. If it wasn't for logistics, some other countries across Africa and Asia could have used those (if they won't randomly burst into flames. Another doom scenario, imagine that whole field becoming a toxic inferno).
Great idea. Let’s send them to poor countries that don’t have basic electricity for their constituents. Every African living in a mud hut can have a useless car. Brilliant.
And would destroy any existing car dealerships / cycle shops, businesses, and their livelihoods in those countries, if they just dumped it all in there.
I’ve seen all the “cool” Chinese electric cars and battery inventions and whatsoever in last years IAA. My friends (Engineers working with cars in different fields) and I (Computer Scientist with a lot of courses in Electrical Engineering) were surprised to see the cheap (and sometimes really bad) quality of these cars. Ever since we didn’t understand how the numbers match the product so I was just waiting to see this ever since. Yes, as Germans we also complain about the quality of Teslas, but that’s more in reference to the bad assembly, not the inbuilt tech itself. And Tesla would never bring a car to the IAA that looks like a 3 year old made the cube fit the triangle cutout. But these Chinese cars…they tried to trick everyone with futuristic stages and food samples. These cars were just really bad in comparison …😅 Little edit: I didn't mention the German part in terms of: OMG, GERMAN CARS ONLY; EVERYTHING ELSE IS CHEAP BS!! What I wanted to say is we criticise cars also a lot on how neatly they look, not only tech. I mean..tesla has some good tech but they are referred to as "cheap plactic toys". I just wanted to say that we criticise teslas for their bad assembly but teslas are on god level compared to these chinese cars. I'm not a fanatic fangirl of german car brands, we produce a lot of shit sometimes (as mentioned in a comment the timing chain issue in some VW motors and ... software...). Otoh, they are usually good for speeding and we don't have a speed limit in my area..so... people will buy a car they can speed with. And we have to have regular maintanace anyways due to safety ionspections and guidlines so that's normal for us and idk..these cars just are reliable for us (apart from well known issues in some models but ppl just don't get them). US cars don't last very long the way people drive here, I just hear a lot of complaints and "never again" comments. (Not saying US cars are bad, we just have different expectations or something like it). Edit 2: Also not saying Teslas are crappy cars. Yes, there are some videos aout there of intresting assembly decisions but I think teslas are really good cars, I am a big fan of what they do (engineering wise). If I could drive an electric car where I live (infrastructure problems and germany has stupid rules...the charging station system has too many companies with different payment methods and connectors and whatsoever, it's idiotic atm and this needs to change) I'd probably get a Tesla if i wanted a full electric or a japanese hybrid.
Germans should be the last people to talk about quality. You guys have BMW and Audi that cannot even reach 100k miles without spending upto 20% of the car value in repairs by then 😂. Never ever buying a BMW or Audi again. If you want to talk quality, compare to Japanese not German please. Germans have performance and engineering NOT quality

What did they buy into? Manufacturing is cheaper in China because labour is cheaper in China. The other option would have been to go bankrupt or be outcompeted. Nobody prefers Chinese made items.
I mean… for most common goods, it’s cheaper to mass produce in China because they have the people to work the assembly and the manufacturing plant is there.
Ok, so the companies received funding from the Chinese government and here they have already built thousands of bicycles and thousands of cars, so why didn't they sell them?
That’s my question too. Even if they sell all of the products off to a third party so they can refurbish / market / sell them, it’ll be a great source of extra income outside of the investment money. It just makes no logical sense.
I was astounded when I caught a bullet train out of Beijing, we passed a massive massive dump of those Share bikes! I reckon the dump was about the size of a few Olympic stadiums!

I think the reason a lot of people don't believe this story is because the cars are parked neatly, but just wait until they run out of room and start stacking them up on top of each other, just like they did with the bicycles.
No, the reason they don’t believe it is because we see about 10,000 cars but they sell 5 million BEVs in China every year. If they want to push their sales numbers we would need videos of millions of BEVs and not 10,000.
As someone that used to work for GM and Nissan, we do the same thing in the US. China unfortunately, isn't doing anything abnormal to other nations. Only difference is that in America, they don't have to register them to say they sold them. They do it in America for stockholder reasons.

It really shows that poverty in the form of lack of clothes, appliances, things you need to live in the modern world, is completely manufactured (pun intended). Poverty is simply about controlling the masses.
The difference is that Amazon actually sells the pallets of returned goods. (Because some money is better than no money.) How many times have you gone to the store and saw things on a "clearance" rack for 50% off? It's not like there wouldn't be a market for these bikes and cars. They should let TEMU sell this stuff on the internet and take a cut of that.
Well, when you keep arresting the drivers for independent thought you're gonna have to park their cars somewhere.
That's it exactly. Something is snowballing. It will take hold eventually- everyone has their threshold of tolerance.

That practice still goes on,

Our local council bought dozens of electric vehicles solely because of tax incentives, when those incentives are no longer in place they will go back to the ( more reliable and convenient) diesel vehicles.
It's always about the money, it's been about money from the beginning, not 'saving the planet'.
You do know that gas and diesel hasn't been profitable for like 4o years and it's only usable because of subsidies, right?
@@andrewwebb624 Yeah sure, people around the world are only using gas and diesel because someone pays them to use it, right? Do you even know what the word subsidies means?
@@andrewwebb624 What!? Realy, what?

Brilliant.
I'd imagine they are stripped of core components that are reused to make the 'new cars sold'
These cars were just really bad in comparison …😅
Little edit: I didn't mention the German part in terms of: OMG, GERMAN CARS ONLY; EVERYTHING ELSE IS CHEAP BS!!
Communist China pulls this kind of nonsense with just about everything they do!
Germans should be the last people to talk about quality. You guys have BMW and Audi that cannot even reach 100k miles without spending upto 20% of the car value in repairs by then 😂.
