2:51 I love how the waveform for the "failed the Special Stage" effect seems to zoom out, rushing away from you, as it simultaneously increases in frequency and decreases in amplitude.
Who ever made these in the first place is truly masterful, i dont think any genesis game comes even close how many and well made these effects are. I would just hope they would have kept more of these in the series after moving to 3d games.
Fun fact, in the DS ports of the classic games, known as the "Sonic Classic Collection", you only hear 6:51 when losing rings in all the games, because they must've messed up when porting that sound, or something.
0:42 It seems this was always intended to be the Electric Shield's sound effect and yet the 4th sound effect which seems to have nothing to do with electricity was used. Even in Mania, they use that sound effect for the Electric Shield. Only Generations used this "correct" sound effect
Also remember that Sonic 3 & Knuckles was based on an upgraded version of Sonic 2's game engine, so there are some other sound effects from Sonic 2 that either go unused or are used in Sonic 3 too.
It doesn't, if I remember properly. It's a cut sound effect, it makes me think of an engine. It is paired together with the sound effects for Launch Base. 3:59 is the same one as 3:55, just pitched up higher and quicker. It was used as an alarm for Launch Base. 3:55 and the sound afterward make me wonder if at one point there was a mechanic sort of similar to the one in Sonic CD, where in Wacky Workbench there was a launcher that threw Sonic into the level. That, or something else.
0:19 is the sonic 1 and 2 shield sound effect when you break open a monitor with a shield but in sonic 3&k all the sonic 1 and 2 shield monitors got replaced by the elemental shields🙃
That whistle at 0:50 / 0:51 was only used in sonic 3, if I'm not mistaken. It would've been ear piercing if that was used for that unused sprite where sonic whistles, which is also found in the sprite cycle animations in debug mode by pressing B and C at the same time.
This is absolutely amazing out of all the classic sonic games that where relased on the sega genesis I've always felt that in terms of the sound Effects sonic 3 always had some of the best one's my personal favorite one is the sound of the airship as it flies by dropping down bombs as they explode at the end of angel island
Didn't know any S3&K sound effects were multichannel. How'd they avoid obvious music track clipping? Did they only use multichannel ones on levels using less music channels or something?
Similar to consoles like the NES, it cancels out those channels of the music until the effect is gone. After the effect is gone, those notes continue. That is why bass is Channel 0 or 1.
