Having issues installing your PC games via Windows Store or Xbox app on PC? IF you're getting an NTFS (80073D13 error) and your drive is NTFS, you might have an issue with how it's clustered. Had this problem with my new hard drive, turns out when i did the original format i didnt set the allocation unit size to 4096, i kept it default. this solved my problem, thank you. you did in 12 min what an Hour and 30 and Microsoft couldnt.

Legend ! It worked. I had a pretty full partition with an empty one next to it so I formatted as suggested and used settings (CTRL + I ) to say new games in the new partition. Installed quick as a flash. Thanks

Dude, was having this issue with my external ssd, but you showed me where to go change the format. Got everything back on it now and gamepass/microsoft store is letting me choose it and use it for storage. Seriously, thank you for this video man!

Thank you for making this video. Will this work with an external hard drive? I have tried going to reset my local drive format but it gives me a pop up saying "you cannot format this volume. it contains the version of windows that you are using. formatting this volume could cause your computer to stop working." with a link to formatting disks and drives faq.
My main issue is that I have the halo master chief collection and I bought a WD-BLACK 2tb external hard drive. It won't let me move the games to the drive, and when I set it to install it on the drive, it still goes onto C drive even though I made sure I selected the wd-black as the default.
I have read that this may have something to do with game pass. I really do not want to have to uninstall my master chief collection, but its 125gb all on its own and the whole reason I bought the external drive was to have it hold my games.
My laptop is a dell g3 15. Idk if that makes any difference.
As long as your drive is USB 3.0 that could work but yes, you’ll want for format the external this way or partition your main drive into two logical drives
Hi, thank you for these videos. I have an external Samsung T5 formatted to exfat (didn't check the format when I first used it), and it's been fine for most Game Pass PC games. But Yakuza 0 just won't go. Is there anything I can do other than format? Disk management, AOEMI and Minitools all don't give the option of splitting/shrinking. I have a bunch of games on the external, which can all be redownloaded, but there is 200GB of pictures/video from my camera that I don't have the space anywhere to move as of yet. So I feel like my options are format and lose the stuff, or buy an extra hard drive. Is there anything else I can try?

so ive spent days trying to figure this out, im the closest ive ever been thanks to this and one other video, my issue now is that when i right click on my drive the "shrink volume" option is greyed out, my drive is not in NTFS it shows as exFAT, do i need to reformat it? and if i do, do i need to move the files that came preinstalled so they arent wiped out?

I have been trying but I still don’t seem to get it, I used to be able to play Minecraft and I had to get my hard drive changes because it wasn’t opening anything, but now that I changed it I can’t play and ut says that I need a drive that is NTFS and that it’s max 4k but 4k doesn’t appear when I set the thing, what could I do?

hi bro i got questions to ask, i just bought the wd black P10 5tb, i got xbox gamepass on my gpd win max windows 10, try to install xbox gamepass game onto the wd black but got this error code 0x80073d13, what should i do? is it i need to format the wd black like u did then able to install games? i haven’t try anything yet...
With any new drive you need to format a drive, since your getting the error with Xbox, yeah try this out and if it still gives you an error then let me know

I have an external harddrive. I am able to install Steam games on it but when I try to install games from the xbox app it doesn’t show the drive it says it is not formatted correctly however when I check properties it shows it is set to NTFS by default and it is set to 4096. So why can’t I download games on my external hard drive through the xbox app?

So does this mean that I have to create a whole new partition in my drive just for Xbox Games?
If your drive isn’t already at that 4000 bit range, then yes. If you don’t get the error then you should be good to go
Anyone have a fix for error 0x80072F8F? Tried everything I can find online and nothing fixes it. Even microsoft support has no fix other than a complete wipe and reinstall, which I am not willing to do.
Unable to install games on pc. I’ve got 200gb. Do what your video says yet it will only let me use 13gb of it to partition considering I have 200gb available so won’t let me install flight sim. Help please

These types of Windows problems is why I've switched to gaming on Linux; problems on Linux are mostly DRM and anti-cheat software. FFXIV has worked great on Linux.
Also to bring up Disk Management, you should be able to press `Windows + X` or right-click the Start menu icon and then click on `Disk Management`.

So I was messing around with this, but the "Extend Volume" is grayed out. Not sure why, they are both NTFS.
Ah, I figured it out. I had to delete the drive I had created and make sure it's listed as "unallocated."

Thank you, I think my issue was the format for my SSD was wrong. I bought an external SSD (Samsung t5) to keep my game pass games on, and when moving them from (C:) to the t5, I got the error 0x80073d13. In the disk manager I changed the format to NTFS and seems to be working now

Can you run a check disk to see if you need to repair the drive. You can also download treesize to see if there are any files hidden and taking up space
What should i do when i dont have the xbox drive partion
My problem was that I forgot that I put my hard drive in exFAT when I needed to get some files off of my playstation temporarily. I needed to reformat it back to NTFS so I could use it for what I got it for.
But you were able to get it working?

Will this mess with other games in the drive
Nope, I haven’t had any issues with the other installed games but note, the new partition wouldn’t have games on it, as it uses empty space
Everything worked nicely however when i went to allocate more space it doesn't give me the option to extend volume
I'd have to see more; you might need to troubleshoot from that tool to see why the recovered space/partision isn't showing up. I'd need an error code or something more to help.

I can't shrink the volume, all is says is "the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " idk what to do with.

Im trying to move my Microsoft games over to my external drive. But it doesn't let me. Steam games work fine when I transfer them over.

I'd guess you're getting this error due to your HD being exFat rather then NTFS, but I'd have to look at up to know more.

Have you tried resetting the xbox app,
How to reset an app in Windows 10
Open Settings.
Go to System > Apps & features.
Find an app you want to reset, and click on Advanced options.
Just click the Reset button.
@@GingerPrimeGaming I tried the reset on another computer and it worked to install on secondary drive! Sadly not my gaming machine but that was also having an issue.. My main PC for some reason won't after resetting the app. I turned off Antivirus, reinstalled game services and did a few other suggestions from forums and videos in PowerShell. It's really weird but I am curious if it has to do with my version of windows (windows partner program so I have the latest "experimental" version or whatever they upgraded me to) or some other setting. I see that I have full control to the drive and the drives are formated to NTFS. I'm glad something worked still
At this point I'm like should I just reimage my machine from a six month ago or even start over fresh. I may just buy a larger drive and image the OS to the new drive and then partition off a section for Xbox.

What fixed it for me was I got a new 14tb hhd I just deleted the volume and created a new one before my d drive wasn't there now it is on the xbox app took me while to sort didn't have to Strink it

When you formatted it to NTFS what Bit size did you use 4K? If not, you'd get this error.
Ginger Prime I’m on Mac btw so I followed with the Mac kind of way. I think i have to delete the EFI partition. I saw online u have to donthat

Ginger Prime ah don’t worry about it. What I had to do is change the GUID partition to master boot record. GUID partition automatically uses EFI. I had to change it now it works. Thanks for the help. Ima sub

Okay, para empezar mi problema era que cuando quería descargar un juego solamente me ofrecía la ruta del discurso duro integrado de mi computadora y no me detectaba el disco externo *(D:) mi disco* seguramente te salga este texto *"D:- Esta unidad no tiene el formato NTFS. La unidad NTFS requiere un tamaño de sector máximo de 4k"*
Okay ahora vas a seguir estos pasos:
1 - Entra a configuraciones y ve al apartado de "sistema" en el lado izquierdo de la pantalla.
2 - Busca el almacenamiento y luego selecciona "configuracion avanzada de almacenamiento".
3 - Selecciona "Discos y volúmenes"
*MUY IMPORTANTE!!! Antes de que cambies el formato (X o Y) a (NTFS) DEBES MOVER TODOS TUS ARCHIVOS A TU DISCO DURO (C:) EN UNA CARPETA NUEVA Y LOS DEJAS AHÍ POR EL MOMENTO, UNA VEZ TERMINANDO EL PROCESO PUEDES VOLVER A COLOCARLOS A TU DISCO EXTERNO SIN PROBLEMAS, yo sé que es tedioso, te entiendo*
Okayy en esa parte está la raíz del problema, ve hasta abajo del todo y aparecerá el nombre de tu disco duro y su respectiva Información, verás que tu disco dice "exFAT" o quizás tenga otro formato.
Entonces lo que harás es darle a "propiedades" a tu disco duro, en mi caso es (D:).
Okay una vez en propiedades SELECCIONA EL FORMATO (NTFS) y lo formateas… SII BRO NO HAY OTRA OPCIÓN PARA ESE PROBLEMA, PEROOOO HAZLO CRÉEME QUE SE TE VA SOLICIONAR EL PROBLEMA!!! Y nada vuelves a colocar los archivos que tenías en tu disco externo y chequea la app de Xbox Pc, y verifica tu ruta de descargas en configuraciones, y verás que te aparece el disco duro nuevamente como si nada.. :D 👍🏽
