I feel like the hardest part of being a “small channel” is the process of getting recognized. Like it might sound silly, but EVERYTHING matters from the sounds you use to the resolution and aspect ratio you render in. Just remember guys, it’s the little things that separates you from others. 🤙🏽
from my experience id have to disagree. the only thing that matters is whether your idea is good, you can mess everything up from there and still get views (as long as your audio isn't atrocious, that can defiantly kill views lol)
@@TrusiieeMost people won’t care or notice. 720p looks almost identical to 1080p on mobile devices, which is undoubtably the most common way to videos.
This is the most helpful and accurate video for small YT channels I've ever seen. I was so fed up with those obvious tips like "be creative" or "make a great title" that are in like 90% of videos. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I did some of the setting recommendation and it worked. My channel is not even a month old and maybe 20 views on a video is nothing to much people, but for me it made my night. So, I started changing my old videos setting and got one or three more views. Small wins are wins!! Thank you again for sharing this information!

I just started my channel and wow averaging like 20 views per video is discouraging. But your video gave me hope! So much to learn. To all the new content creators out there, don't give up!
One thing I can say is definitely post shorts of some kind. My channel is still small but I started posting some shorts recently (just some clips from my videos) and I immediately started getting some subscribers. One of my shorts really blew up a bit and is currently sitting at 13k views and is still growing. Shorts definitely do a pretty good job at getting your content out to more people
@@TheSwagNinja36I actually do that and for some reason people watch them and just like and no comments except me so it looks odd :( As long as I get some views im happy
Appreciate your sharing man! I started mine few months ago and almost give up but then watch your vid, and flood of positive comment here, I feel great again. Anyone here, I don't personally know who you are but keep your spirit, always positive. Cheers!
Dude I give you props I didn’t even know the “publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers “ button even existed but it makes perfect sense to organically drive new traffic to your page especially if you’re trying to pivot! I had a couple successful videos on a different topic then what my new videos are on and I feel the algorithm is definitely sidelining my new content due to my subscribers not choosing to watch the new content. Definitely a good catch man!
decided to go all in and started my channel 2 months ago to finally do what i love - storytelling and cooking. as a new creator, there's been so many moments i've wanted to give up. it's videos like these that keep me inspired and motivate me to keep going. this was great. please keep pushing this out! and for anyone who's just starting out - whether it's a channel, a business, a degree, etc. - if you're feeling lost, i am too. would love to see you around!
My simple advice is don't bother, the system is set up so aggressively against channels it's impossible to get big enough to survive in the peanuts given out as income
Awesome video as always, and I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. Otherwise, you are going to be far behind everyone else, and eventually quit. Even though I am not beginner anymore, I know how hard it could be (and if I didn't have used a lot of Famester, I would have quit a long time ago as well). It made everything much more easier and faster, especially getting over subs and views requirements to get monetized.
I’m a small theme park TH-cam channel who started my channel around march time and I did all these last night and I’ve gone from 70 to 80 subs over night and it’s still slowly growing
Just started my channel. It's tough putting in the work without seeing the results right away but I'm sure that my hard work will pay off! For all those reading this message that feel discouraged, KEEP AT IT. From what I've seen, this is the best piece of advice for newer content creators like myself. GOOD LUCK ALL -- End of "Inspirational" speech :)
Probably one of the best YT creation channels I have ever watched. This is what the more popular YTers don't share unless you pay them. Thank you for the insights and keep them coming.
@@KTSpeedruns ??? But the comment you responded to said they are offering things IN THIS VIDEO (the implication, you can cope) is being offered for FREE whereas the information given here is normally paywalled. "This is what the more popular YTers don't share" implies it is referring to this video in particular/the information given here again for free, not in that course. Even that "a bit" ironic doesnt hold.
@@cyberinsurgent9910 most of what he spoke about is commonly known, and the assumption is most TH-camrs "won't tell you", it's probably more of a, why should they? Like.. a music channel would have no need to tell its subs that, a blog channel wouldn't either. Even with all of these settings, (most I've already done) I myself only have 200 subs. You can do all these settings, and it's still only a chance the algorithm picks you up. Posting often helps the best, sharing to discord servers and subreddits have been more helpful. I watched this video thinking there was new info, but.. most is already known. These grow your channel YTers, are saying the same thing recycling what's been said for years.
Wow, this video is packed with value right from the start! I can totally relate to how overwhelming it can be to find genuine content. Thanks for this! As a small youtuber myself, uploading videos and get only small views is kinda intimidating and just want to give up and delete it but honestly don’t. It may be small now but soon it will be big! Never give up everyone🤗💗
I implemented the techniques you shared in settings 4, 5, and 6, and my shorts went from 0 views to 200+ views! While it may not be a substantial number, it's a promising start. Thank you for your insightful video
Got this recommended to me, and it was very informative. Not much of a "content creator" here, but when I do one day upload an amazing project I have to share, these tips will help a bit. Thanks for the lesson!

I have grown my channel over 8 YEARS and its a constant ever changing algorithm Thanks for the refresher even once your channel grows its good to be reminded to go check and uncheck new stuff youtube hoops that we have to jump through. It takes time and perseverance. My advice.. If at first you don't succeed try try and try again and again and again don't give up.
Just started up my channel a few days ago, hoping that these settings will help me reach out to more people. If you’re also starting out, persistence and patience is key. Keep uploading and don’t give up!

It seems like obvious settings but it is not. During the video, I was checking every option on my channel settings. And I changed a lot. Thank you, Marcus!
This has been really helpful. I've been losing hope lately because I thought I had some viewers, but it turns out it was just me watching my own videos! I can't help but watch them, though, because I'm proud of what I've created.
This whole algorithm thing is so annoying, because a lot of my viewers have been commenting, sad that the videos don't show up on their notifications anymore 😢 great video, sad times
I don't know why people pay attention to notifications. If you want to see your subscriptions you just go to your subscriptions tab. Though, I guess alot of people don't do that?
I appreciate your support and belief in my potential. Let's work together to make 2024 a successful year for my channel. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, it means a lot to me. Let's make it happen!
Thanks for sharing @Marcus-Jones. I created my TH-cam account yesterday with a concept in mind, and I've been surprised by the amount of people that believe I'm a troll because of the age of my account. Doesn't bother me though (since it's easy to prove them wrong), but it's interesting how there's sort of a "socially-implied" so-called "waiting period" before TH-camrs will take you seriously. 🤔 Oh well - still learning every day!
OMG! Thank you Marcus for creating such an informative and engaging video. I literally paused during segments and went to my channel to apply or revise some of the settings you mentioned. You're awesome. Keep doing what you're doing!👍
Great video! It’s eye-opening to see how many settings can impact smaller channels. Understanding these issues is crucial for anyone trying to grow their presence on TH-cam. Thanks for highlighting these challenges and offering some solutions!
Just FYI creative Commons license means that businesses get to use your content free as well. Licensing is a big part of the revenue stream for many creators. Definitely a big part of what I do. Not wise to release most content on a Creative Commons license.
While true, the point of CC licenses is intended for creating works that allow freedom of usage by other people in general to remix or add further towards, not just businesses. That said yeah, I do think more clarification on that should've been done in this vid. It is also notable that CC licensed works have many varying terms as well before you can use them on your own vid -- such as ones preventing commercial use as well as ones requiring reusing the same license when you make your work.
exactly!!! This dude has a Napster mentality when it comes to using other people's video without paying them. Never fall for the 'exposure' lie in exchange for taking your work and them making money off it, while you get nothing but maybe 2 disinterested viewers. Not worth it.
It's also worth noting that you might have a license to use some copyrighted material but cannot share it in media with a creative commons license. I had to get a copyright permission for a copyrighted text I set to music. I am allowed to sell, record, etc. with that license. I am not allowed to put that recording or sheet music under a creative commons license.
Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🚀 *Optimizing Subscriptions Feed Visibility* - Uncheck "Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers" for videos unrelated to your channel's main content. 01:10 🧒 *Setting "Made for Kids" Correctly* - Accurately designate if your video is made for kids (under 13) or not. - Incorrect settings can lead to limited options and potential fines. 02:19 📚 *Chapters and Key Moments* - Disable "Allow automatic chapters and key moments" to avoid AI-generated confusing or spoiler-filled chapters. - Manually adding chapters with timestamps in your video description is recommended. 03:46 🕵️ *Privacy and Featured Places* - Disable "Featured places" to prevent TH-cam from revealing your location to viewers. - Consider turning off "Automatic concepts" for better clarity and control. 04:27 🌐 *Licensing and Distribution* - Change the default TH-cam license to "Creative Commons attribution" for broader reuse permissions. - Embrace content reuse as potential free marketing. 05:09 📺 *Optimizing Channel Homepage* - Customize your channel homepage with featured sections to make it vibrant and engaging. - Remove the default shorts section if your channel is not primarily focused on TH-cam shorts. 07:00 🛡️ *Feature Eligibility in TH-cam Studio* - Complete feature eligibility verification steps in TH-cam Studio for longer videos and custom thumbnails. - Select your correct country of residence to avoid tax-related issues. 08:13 🔗 *Subscriber Link Optimization* - Use a custom channel link with "?sub_confirmation=1" to encourage more subscribers strategically. I appreciate all of the information left in this video! Definitely going to be using these tips to better our channel. We make various content primarily fluctuating between "Challenge" type videos and "Song Covers." I understand that niches are important with channels, and our team is debating making separate channels for the more "Entertainment" based content and the "Music" based content. We are still growing on 1 channel, but we feel the "lack of" a specific niche may be detrimental to our channel in the algorithm. Just curious as to what your thoughts are! Thank you!
What I've found is that Product reviews and reveals make money. Period. And, music covers and entertainment that contains music, is problematic because if you CR it and then play it, you can get demonetized even though you own the rights. If you are female, and drum in educational practice to a CR song, you will have it taken down. If you are male, you might get it taken down, but not necessarily. If Mr. Mikey think its CR, it will be flagged even if you are female and got permission to use it by the record label if you speed it up or slowed it down or whatever they said we had to do. This is why Music is risky. Challenge videos can get people very much in a bad way. I don't recommend either actually. People have died doing those challenge vids. And People have been banned from YT or monetizing doing covers. Sorry! Oh yeah, avoid anything owned by Warner Brothers or Disney like the plague as they will sue! So will anything owned by Taylor Swift's record label. Usually, the top 5 record labels will give a cease and desist regardless. It's just Mr. Mikey that targets females more so than Males, but Males do get targetted too.
It's probably better to split the channel. Make sure each channel has information that can bring you to the other channel with the knowledge of what is on that other channel.

Mate, your main issue is that your titles and thumbnails don't make people want to click. WAYY too wordy, not enough punch. The avarage person isn't going to click your video even if its a fantastic video with a great concept because you aren't hooking them with the title and thumbnail. I would recommend you go around youtube and watch videos about to how make click bate titles and thumbnails to drive up your Click Through Rate. If you look at your videos, the videos that get like 10 times your normal views are the ones that are slightly clickbate-ish or about a very popular character (Thomas the Train). Good luck!
Just started my channel! Currently working on uploading plot synopses of popular movies. I’m loving it so far, and I should’ve started this TH-cam journey sooner! It’s not too late to chase what you enjoy.

As someone who does a lot of variety content I never really considered the posting to subscriber feeds option as potentially harmful... Maybe that's something I need to genuinely consider as my channel has had some serious stagnation issues and some of my oldest content is performing better while my newest content is performing as poorly as it ever has. And considering I've been at this 10 years it's kinda discouraging seeing my numbers hitting all time lows.
The problem you have is that gaming live streaming is such a overly saturated market. However, if you were to do game reviews, it might work. The problem is that we don't have " looky what I bought" with all these subscriptions. You can talk gear and set up, and how to defeat Boss X, Boss Y and Boss Definitely Not a Z. However, if you are really good at gaming and just nail it like a real pro, I think that is where others can make money. Its just that the Pros get in these game contests and get their team out there and well known. That then brings in the views. However, they might not even be making money on YT. I don't know. I would look at what other gaming channels are doing and see about Twitch - as thats for gamers anyway and see what is working for them, and what isn't working. How to solve Escape Game Name Here or Puzzler RPG here, does not make money either. I looked into that, and no one cares. However, start a website solving those things and have screen shots with lots of ads, and somehow people go there to find solutions. Go figure! 😂

I feel like the hardest part of being a “small channel” is the process of getting recognized. Like it might sound silly, but EVERYTHING matters from the sounds you use to the resolution and aspect ratio you render in. Just remember guys, it’s the little things that separates you from others. 🤙🏽
Completely agree, you might have quality videos, but people are not seeeing you!!
from my experience id have to disagree. the only thing that matters is whether your idea is good, you can mess everything up from there and still get views (as long as your audio isn't atrocious, that can defiantly kill views lol)
@@this.science that’s true to a certain extent. You don’t want your channel filled up with great videos just for them to all be 720p

Thank you so much for this video. I did some of the setting recommendation and it worked. Small wins are wins!! Thank you again for sharing this information!

@@vickyjohnson2704 vicky, i think it's under YT Studio. By the way, I used to use my iPhone until I started moderating.

I find this comment a bit ironic because the first link in the description is a site that sells you a $300 course to growing on TH-cam.
@@KTSpeedruns And how in reality its still a chance for these things to work.
@@KTSpeedruns ??? But the comment you responded to said they are offering things IN THIS VIDEO (the implication, you can cope) is being offered for FREE whereas the information given here is normally paywalled.

@@niajeannine calm down and quit being so hysterical.
Could release it under CC-BY-NC-SA. Most of the benefits, none of the drawbacks. Businesses must still pay for your content.

You from Maine?
@@perilouspeej Sure am!
@@Maine-lyHorror Aye where at? I'm living in NC right now but grew up in Harrison. I love all things horror too even met Stephen King at the Bridgton hospital when I broke my hand after punching a SOLID wall as a teen lol.
I have been watching so many videos like this and I feel like none have been more “beginner friendly”. Thank goodness this video was a real step-by-step guide! Thank you so much!
You guys keep going! Small creator here, we'll all get big someday. Keep saying it & you'll be big one day! ❤
We will and we can 👌
Bro, within seconds your video is already more helpful with REAL content to help us rather than what most channels provide.
Definitely Thank You!

Probably one of the most practical/useful youtube tips video i've ever watched.
This can be useful for ANY content creator at any point of their carreer

You've been so helpful! I'm a small TH-camr and have found everything in this video extremely useful. Thank you sir!
Just started my channel, thanks for the tips! Good luck to those who is starting too
Hi
Don't give up believe in yourself EVERYONE!❤
yea its hard
Wholesome af
Mfw i already do all that in the video 💀
it's already over bros, it's already over...
Thank you for that! Some days it's easy to just give up when you dont see any new Subs or even likes on your videos and shorts. Will keep on trying ^^
It's hard, especially because my channel is Minecraft letsplays, and this d💩mba$$ just called my content boring and cringe... I'm going back to vidIQ, better content there.
Just stumbled across your videos (now a subscriber!)
Such engaging and informative content.
Very impressed by the quality and the depth of insights you provide.
Keep up the great work!
So excited to try this. This is only the second video I’ve watched of his and I already have some serious respect for those analytic skills. So thankful he has the patience and passion for it 😭🙏
I literally can't find the settings mentioned in the video XD
@@HiCringe Try using a laptop
If you are reading this, I hope that your channel grows in 2024! Don't give up
there were actually a few that i haven’t done yet this video was so helpful thank you!!
Can you please do a video on 21 TH-cam Settings That F*ck Big Channels. It seems like I have every setting on that destroys my channel
Don’t give up, you’re hella popular
Mate, your main issue is that your titles and thumbnails don't make people want to click. WAYY too wordy, not enough punch. The avarage person isn't going to click your video even if its a fantastic video with a great concept because you aren't hooking them with the title and thumbnail. I would recommend you go around youtube and watch videos about to how make click bate titles and thumbnails to drive up your Click Through Rate. If you look at your videos, the videos that get like 10 times your normal views are the ones that are slightly clickbate-ish or about a very popular character (Thomas the Train). Good luck!
❤
Just started my channel! Currently working on uploading plot synopses of popular movies. I’m loving it so far, and I should’ve started this TH-cam journey sooner! It’s not too late to chase what you enjoy.
(0:01) If says the f word there a painful sound effect
A moan?
Thank you for explaining these settings to me bud there was a few i didnt even know existed lol :) glad ive managed to unlock thumbnails now id av been lost without that setting when it comes to uploading proper full length videos lol so yeah thank you again :) this is a great vid with clear explanations was so easy to follow step by step :)
@@niajeannine Problem is gaming is really one of my only passions lol
Go figure! 😂
These has so many gold nuggets of info. I didn't know about the subscriber link or how to watermark.
Great tips man!
Can't wait to apply them in my upcoming videos
Thanks for the tips bro! Will keep these in mind
