Thank you. It's crazy how user unfriendly Microsoft products are in general, besides Windows and Office (though I bet some IT guys out there 100% disagree with this, just speaking from experience). You would figure Microsoft would A) have one app that manages all apps and games they offer. B) Provide easy user-friendly options to change storage locations using the app that you downloaded the game on. C) Provide easy access to customer service when it's not all obvious at all how to accomplish what you'd think would be a simple goal (like in this case).

¡¡WARNING!! Moving games to a drive that isn't an SSD, creates random long pc freezes (in my case, lasting one second, every ~5 minutes), when playing non xbox games , for example csgo. If you want to get rid of this problem, unstalling the xbox app isn't enough. Look for "disable xbox xvdd" . What a shame, microsoft.

This is great but you can also now do this in the app
In the Xbox app go to the game you want to move, click on the three dots next to Play and go to manage. In there you can move it to another drive

@@BLooDY3dd try right clicking the drive you are wanting to move Forza too, then hit Format. Mine was exFat and I switched it to NTFS and it seems to be allowing me to move games over now. I had the same error code. Do be aware, after you reformat the drive, it deletes everything on the drive. So I'd make sure you have anything valuable that's already on there in a safe place.
so you're telling me that the times I've redownloaded over 160GB, waited for probably 7h in total and it could've been done in 3 minutes?

how did you do this? im on current version of windows 11 and when i click on the game it does not give me any options. it has three dots on the right side but all it says modify which dosnt let me click on it and uninstall

thanks so much! i installed forza motorsport on my hardrive and it ran horribly on it and i needed to move it to my ssd but its 110gb so this helped a ton

Try to do this but pop up with. This app isn't supported on the targets Drives filesystems? With all the games for xbox game pass. anyone know why? New to this!

Thank you for this, I really didn't want to redownload an 80gb game to move it to a different drive. Very bizarre that the Xbox program itself lets you change install drives and folders, but doesn't have a "Move install" feature built into it.

Do we need a speical type of ssd for this aka fast speed tranfer drive? What wuold be the minimum transfer speed becuze i tryed to do this on a usb drive and it did not work

for me it offers an option to delete or modify. no option to move and modify is greyed out. no idea what to do here.
How do you move it to a folder? I installed the game to a drive and it added 5 new entries. I want all the microsoft gaming bunk in a specified folder
I tried to clone my games drive (D) to another larger one, but when I swapped them around windows says none of the games are installed :(. I'm gonna swap them back and try this method, but it sucks, because all the other games libraries (Epic, EA etc.) worked fine... erghh!!

I've reinstalled an windows onto my new drive as I have an SSD now but most mygames I can keep on my old drive and make shortcuts to my new desktop. Game Pass games I can't do and I can't find it through the apps as I'm on a new OS with the app installed on my older drive. Any work around?

im having this problem right now, the new win install doesnt seem to look for the game files no matter where they are installed so i cant play them directly there, the old win install still works as it had before tho, did you manage to make it work?
I don't have to move files but for my pc, I have my 2 hard drives hooked up via usb dock. Now the xbox app doesn't want to open, or doesnt show some games as installed. Rather, to reinstall even though the hdd is still the same drive name and everything. And when I try to reinstall it has errors.
Cant u change the pre set hardrive in the xbox app? cant dowload the game sience i dont have the space on that specific harddrive xbox app choose

just had to do a fresh install of windows on a new ssd. "apps & features" will only detect newly installed apps on the new ssd. when i switch to search other drives, it detects nothing. any ideas?

The apps i want to move just have 'Modify' and I'm unable to click it, what do I do...??
some apps have the modify button under it, and other apps have the move button under it, for example minecraft has the move button

My Forza Horizon 5 only shows 11mb in the app settings, every other game shows the actual size and i cant find the directory from anywhere, any tips?

Is that possible to move game file to HDD, then plug it into another PC then try download that game and Choose SAME HDD and will it recognize game folder? So we should successfully move game folder from 1 pc to another pc under with same xbox account.

thanks for your work. Do you currently have of plan to make a video moving the whole OS to a new drive. I have an empty m2 slot and I want to buy a faster disk, then move the whole system to this new disk and then use the previous disk as secondary. Thanks in advance!

What if you can't download it. I don't have enough space to download it yet but I bought on the Xbox app and just don't have enough space. I have a external hard drive with over 900 gigabytes but I can't download it yet to move it.

yeah you should format your drive come to my pc the right click on the drive you want to move apps to then click format and it says file system or sth change it to ntfs it was exFat for me when I changed it to ntfs the problem solved but this process will delete datas in your drive
I could actually download the apps directly to my external hard disk after I did this tho
@@mehmetfurkancalskan7587 i checked the format and it was ntfs but im going to try that later on today and hopefully it will work. I couldn't load fh5 on my HDD because the xbox app wouldn't allow me so to choose it.
@@x72s I have the same issue. I can't download any gamepass pc games on my external even though it is ntfs.
@@nicholas3708 yea i still haven't figured it out so i just cleared space from my ssd and its working pretty well. Also if the game starts crash a lot u should turn off all apps even running in the background and start the game in administrator mode. Watch a video abt it.

So I used this method to transfer games to a new SSD that was then installed in my new pc. Is there a way to link the library like steam? I cant even do the move method either. When I look for games on my Game SSD that I moved them to. Nothing shows up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
how did you delete your game from your SSD , once I move it I wanted to delete it , but it just disapear and still ocuping the same space on the SSD , PLEASE HELP
@@jandrex007 So I didn't delete any games. I moved them from my m.2, to a SSD. the SSD is just a game library. I then proceeded to format and do a fresh windows install on my new pc on the m.2. I linked my steam library no problem but can not figure out how to do the same for my xbox pc library.
If you are seeing that the space is still taken up maybe some how you hid the file. but from what I have seen all the xbox games go into a windowsapps folder. which you may have to work on security permissions to be able to open. Good luck.

Its halo master chief collection I move it to hdd from ssd but the ssd still full and I cant find it .

@@moesaurenman4734 You moved them from an m.2 to an SSD? I did something similar recently: I switched from my Honda Accord to a car. Then, I realized I bought whole milk and so I returned it to the store and told them I wanted milk instead. My golden retriever died last week and I have decided to change things up and get a dog as my next pet. You and I are making an equal amount of sense!

@@danielvallentino5596 yeah it worked haven't seen any low bandwidth or low res textures and on the SSD it make booting up the game 2 minutes faster
