Finding Peace Through Walking

  • For most of my life I've found tranquility in walking. In cities, in the suburbs, in the forest. I like it all. Many of my favorite memories in life are of long walks taken alone. It all started in college when I would skip class and wander around campus and the surrounding city. The health benefits were clear, particularly the mental health benefits.
In my very early twenties I spent a lot of time with myself walking around the streets of San Francisco aimlessly. My love walking only grew. After I came home I did the same thing but in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. I became a heavy drinker for a while and spent most of my time hanging around bars for the rest of my twenties but once I developed a stomach problem I rekindled my love for exploration.
Ever since then I've made a point to take a long walk at least twice a week and I'm all the better for it. My mind feels more clear and more importantly I feel more like myself. That's part of my mission for the next couple of years is to become more true to myself and honest with myself. To make the outside reflect the inside and stop wasting my time. If you suffer from anxiety or depression, I'd highly recommend taking up the practice. It might change your life.
My next pursuit may be to engage in more outdoor hiking activities. I've always loved walking in the woods and still do it frequently but I've never really planned a long hike over say 3 miles. Perhaps that's what I'll start doing here soon.

Loving these relaxing "walk and talk" style videos. The mixture of the nature visuals and the old town Michigan visuals and the meditation music and your dead pan but frequently funny anecdotes/musings really make for something special. Hope to see a lot more from you.

Dude! I love this video! Would love to go for a walk some time… maybe stop by Palmer Park before open mic some day?
