Being Alive at Heritage Park

  • I've been working on a series about Taylor, Michigan. This is the third installment which focuses on the big park in town. It's one of the last natural areas left in the city. I've been coming here for years and find it to be a great place to relax, exercise or simply people watch. It's changed a bit over the years but remains basically the same. Maybe it's become a little busier but nothing else too crazy. They've installed some solar lighting around the track which is a nice touch if somebody wants to go for a walk after dark, especially in winter when it gets dark so early. It's hard to stay fit during the cold months because once the average person gets off work it's pitch black outside.
They have many events at Heritage Park. In the summer they have a 4th of July festival which usually even draws in an almost forgotten hair metal band from the eighties. In the winter there's Santas forest. The kids always seem to enjoy that. I enjoy it as well, with a warm cup of hot cocoa in hand. If you live in the Detroit area Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan is definitely a place that you should check out at least once. It's the best place to walk in northern downriver by far.

    Please post more often.
You feel things so deeply in a world that is becoming so callous.

We had Steve Avery go to the MLB from Kennedy High School, Joe C , Kid Rock’s sidekick came out of Kennedy High School.
Do you know about the trail from WCCC to Baraga St? EDIT: Those cement pipes are where that kid died at. His name was Wesley Kubellus, he was playing around a stack of those, and it rolled off and crushed him.
I always did find it cool the city moved all there historic buildings to Heritage Park.

Great stuff again! You should make a trek out to Belleville lake sometime. The Van Buren Park has some nice sites and a tiny beach for some great views of the lake.

Thank you! I’ll definitely consider it when it starts warming up again. I know the area pretty well.
