I've personally have owned a 04 ram since 05 and I have to say in the 10 years that I've had this truck I've had absolutely no problem what's so ever never broken down and it's the most dependable ride I've ever owned I love it .
just be happy the pinion nut didn't come off while towing up that hill. My 05 Ram 1500 Daytona edition with only 76000 miles lost the pinion nut while just driving not in tow. Destroyed the rear axle and all gears inside. Cost me $1000 to fix it myself. I am now the proud owner of a 07 Toyota Tundra
Because you tried to maintain 60 mph, the times don't matter. If you would have let the trucks go faster when they could, your times would mean something
Angry Nerd Gaming I understand this is an old comment, but their point in doing this was to simply see IF the trucks could maintain that 60mph speed to be fair. A lot of times, they’ll drive vehicles that can’t. 60 is simply the arbitrary number that they’re towing, and is likely based off of the legal speed they’re allowed to tow. Here in CA, we can only tow at a max speed of 55mph (stupid, I know)... but nonetheless, 60mph is a fair speed for small/mid-size V8s and even V6s.
Ram hemi very reliable my work truck has 545000 kms and my personal has 38,000 kms and neither have had failures and both driven daily . Just maintain it .
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching. We've got he Nissan Titan on the way to Colorado for an Ike Gauntlet Run. Now we just need to get our hands on the new 6.2L Silverado or GMC and we'll have at least one towing truck from all of the light duty players.
What does it matter if you don't tow anything! I like my Ram because it's good looking, taller than a car and it's heavy and hopefully more protective than most cars!
The time really doesn't matter. If you can maintain 60 MPH the whole way, your time is dictated by traffic. You should do away with the time category and replace it with a check mark if it can, or cannot, maintain the speed limit.
I love how they start bragging about how impressive it was that the ram did all that braking on it's own. Nevermind the fact that a lot of trailers do not have trailer brakes, or the fact that the Tundra managed to brake the same distance and only got 340 degrees vs. 650 or whatever they said.
I love my 16 ram Laramie fully equipped with air ride when we tow our 5500# travel trailer.. 9 years ago goes to show how far you guys have come! No trailer brake gain, no tow haul mode 😂 great video as always TFL
It definitely doesn't seem like 8 years ago you guys posted this video. I just got my second ram it's a 2015 with low Kms. I'm happy so far. As far as the exhaust out the back, with air flow there isn't an issue .
It's obvious after your second downhill on the dodge that you still had zero trailer brakes...86 degrees is nothing, that's just tire and bearing temperature...
I am about to buy a new truck and just drove a new crew max Tundra and was impressed. In fact all 4 of the new trucks were impressive. The Ram is far and away the cream of the crop. Very refined and relaxed in every way.
TFL is far and away the best of the TH-cam car vid producers. The highest values, the most professional presenters,,,, just top notch. You cats need a commercial deal
This is the first time i've ever heard someone say Ram is a reliably brand. The few people I know who drive Rams lease and replace every 2 or 3 years due to the terriable reliability. Cheap parts = poor quality/reliability, the brake temperature was a good indication of how insuficient the brakes are on the Ram and one direct quality difference in the Tundra. A real man would want a reliable truck which can pull a boat without damaging it or the truck in the process. If you want to drive a chrome plated fiat get the Ram, if you want a real working truck get a Tundra.
My ram is close to 140k miles, and still yet to have a single problem with it. Never been in a garage, and has sat through brutal winters in Indiana, especially last year reaching -30 degrees some days and nights. never failed me once. I also haul quite a bit with it.
What part of Indiana gets down to -30? When I lived in Indiana I don't remember -30. While Indiana does get colder than I like I never experienced it that cold. I'm curious as to when and where.
Last year was an especially cold winter. I don't know if you live in the Midwest still, but there was what's called a "winter vortex" and basically cold air was being brought from Canada into Indy. It got even colder up towards Lake Michigan, but where I live just a county or two below Indianapolis it reached -30 a few days.
I've had this very same truck ..and made so many visits to the dealer after I got it. Finally I went for a Tundra and never look back. Ram look very handsome...but man..so many issues with it. I wish they have some pride and effort in building this truck right.
Well hopefully it'll work for you, but we all have different experience. My friends 2010 Tundra had transmition for replacement not long ago. I don't know why all shops are telling him that, since only two trans. selenoids show codes. There are people with Rams out there not having issues. I used Ford service truck for 6 years and it stayed solid and good to us the whole time. Rear leave springs got soft on us but thats about it. Now my bosses new Ford was in dealership bunch times too. I really don't know if it's in unpredictable parts reliability, or human errors at assembly.
My uncle was a Chevy/GMC guy. His son and grandsons' drive Ford trucks. They own a construction company and a ranch/farm. They actually use their trucks. They had been Chevy folks up until my uncle's grandsons' were old enough to drive.
We had a 2012 dodge 2500 with the 5.7. That truck was incredible, it had the 5 speed trany on it. We were in Virginia and there was a hill on a road that the speed limit was 55. The road was I think a 7 or 8% grade, it was extremely steep. We had a trailer on and the combined weight of the trailer and the load was 15,000 lbs. We started up the hill and it was holding 45 mph at 3,000 rpm. My dad gunned it, the peddle on the floor and it jumped to about 5,000 rpm and within seconds it was at 55 mph. That truck was amazing.
i just wanted 4x4, v8,pw and ac. got more bang for the buck with ram. tried toyota and chevyyy. ford forget to expensive. for the money ram offered to me a better truck. 31,000 is what i payed for. they had 9,000 dealer incentives. take that all day. love my ram and so does my son.
Congrats on the new truck... My 2009 Ram just hit 100k with no problems at all. I also have a 2008 Tacoma with 141k and that truck is also running like new. Either way just keep up on the general maintenance like oil changes, and your truck will be good to you.
What no one is commenting about is the basics. Why do I want an outdated, high inertia pushrod engine over a DOHC? When I think dependability and reliability I question the guts of the truck which is the power train. Do this towing test everyday with the same trucks and that will tell me which one is dependable. Can the hemi last 100k miles of this test? I doubt the hemi over the dohc iforce. Bang for your buck and overall options, Ram no doubt. As someone who tows everyday I can't trust the hemi on lasting. Unbiased here,…I have had every brand truck except Nissan.
yeah man the "new" hemi is 11 years old now and has had very little change except for MDS in 05 and VVT, compared with all the engines available in the market, i'd say that the Hemi has held up best of all... not saying it isnt outdated, but its definitely durable
If you did this every day with your truck, it wouldn't last 50 K miles. This is excessive abuse and is only done to show what the truck is capable of when maxed out. They're running wide open, basically the same as running 100 mph or more if the truck was unloaded and on level ground. How long do you think it would last doing that?
I have a '96 Dodge Ram 2500. Within it's warranty period, it had 4 recalls. With 60K miles, I've had to replace the water pump twice. The intermittent wipers quit working and various knobs had to be replaced.
Every one is just jealous because the ram won quit ya'll crying because the Toyota and ford. All of ya'll are just butt hurt because the ram is better than it used to be
Yeah. go watch the other video... The Tundra, $9k less, was within 10 seconds (when he said that he kept going over 60... whatever), had brake temps *300F* lower! That's half! And they made a big deal in the other video that the Tundra had no trailer brake controller, but it was 295F lower than the Ram, when they made use of the trailer brakes. Call me crazy, but I'm going to keep my $9,000, maybe lose 10 seconds up the pass, and have brakes that aren't going to melt. P.s. For $9k, you could afford a factory-installed TRD supercharger, and a professionally-installed trailer brake controller, and still have plenty left.
The RAMs always have 9k-10k in rebates/incentives so the out the door cost is same. Comparing MSRP is very misleading on American trucks. The government subsidies them heavily so they never sell for MSRP like Tundra/Titan. Its always lower.
Can I make a suggestion? Please use a obd2 Bluetooth reader plugged in monitoring live data like: tps , mph, etc stats with a separate camera on an iPhone displaying this along with a live timer during the test. So much info could be learned from each truck tested as well as verify each test was non biased toward any brand. Everyone wins👍🏼
Mr Truck made a good point about the duel rear exhaust that i never thought of. If you haul animals or anything sensitive then the exhaust will pipe it right to it. I like the sound of dual rears but only for racing or mainstreet, not for working with anything sensitive.
I never comment on these things, people buy what they like and they like with a buy usually but I am so sick of these four guys saying "oh it's only got a V-6 and it kicks everybody's butt " a turbo ads displacement pinheads it puts more air into the cylinders effectively making the motor a larger motor it's forced induction it adds fuel and air. Why does no one ever mention this if you added a turbocharger to any of these V8 trucks they would stomp that eco-boost into the ground. Me myself I own a 2013 ram 1500 and I like it very much but that's my opinion right or wrong I love my truck have a nice day
You'll take the tundra for cooler brakes? Those breaks would keep working hot or not. If you hurt the brakes towing that trailer and car you shouldn't be driving with a trailer end of story. And I love both the trucks dont get me wrong. But in the end ram looks and sounds better.
You're right about the law suit. I looked into that. The crash however was because of the fact that the mat used in the car was not designed for the es but was for the rx. It was user error that caused that particular instance. They were still sued and still payed 10Mil to the family despite the fact that the hardware was used incorrectly. It'll take searching for a couple articles to find that.
I own a 2006 RAM 1500 HEMI with Tow Package (Complete). I love this truck. I've read some of the reviews about the truck and the only thing after owning it for a year & half have had happen to me is the tach issue. It works when it wants to. The Tundra is a really nice truck but for me? The RAM does it. The look of that truck is outstanding. And being they are pretty much neck & neck as far as performance IMO it comes down to looks. I guess it's too early to see what bugs/issues they will/will not have.
I always like your videos and I enjoy the banter between Nathan and Roman. I owned a 2003 Tundra that I traded in for a Honda Ridgeline. I miss that truck and would love to own another one some day.
Lol these comments are hilarious, Ram is a very reliable truck. If you visit the forums with people that own them, you can see first hand accounts, not some Toyota fans boys saying they are garbage, not to mention the Ram is and always will be a better looking, faster, and more popular brand.
Well made the switch from my 2007 tundra 5.7 to 2014 ram...couldn't be happier. I am sure I will regret the resale value but I won't regret the 12 mpg avg in summer I was getting and 10mpg in the winter. Getting 18mpg avg in ram now. Toyota was snappier off the line but was miserable to drive..rough, jerkey, and dollar for dollar was lacking many many features compared to ram. Most folks that buy half tons don't max out the 10,000 everyday...if they do then they buy 3/4 ton diesles..so in my opinion I'll trade the quieter, smoother, easier to load, and substantially better mpg for my 90% daily use.
In the Ford test it was also stated that there was a lot of throttle left to go faster or pass going up. Then need to time a 65-75 mph acceleration test with the Ram and the Ford starting at the same point on the road to create a tie breaker.
I am a big dodge fan and even tried a newer ram 2500 hemi. Even though it handled the weight very well I couldn't stand the way it shifted all day long. In tow mode with a trailer and two quads on it, the transmission couldn't hold a gear on a hill for nothing. Up down up down all the way up the hills. Drove me nuts and I sold it a year later.
Punjabi boys...I wanted to comment on ur post below. My tundra also never and I mean NEVER got more than 13mpg no matter how I drove. Rated at 17 city and that was a pipe dream. Agreed the resale and reliability are impeccable...but parts cost are much higher and harder to acquire compared to the others. If you're not brand biased try me all..that's what I did. I'm blown away with my new ram. 5.7 4x4 quad w3.22 rear end. My current avg is 17.5-18 with highway only sometimes reaching 25mpg. So yeah it's night as fast off the line but way way better mileage and still just as capable because the 8 gears. Rams 8 speeds first three ratios are all lower than tundras first two gears so that partially negates the 4.3 rear end. Also somthing to consider ram offers 100000 warranty and toyota is still 60k.
I have to say, I am only part way through the video and the code seems "better", but in the long run, how will the dodge last? Over the next few years? I know if you keep good maintenance it will last but still. My Tundras will keep going for hundreds of thousands of miles. Will the Dodge?
The Ram brakes are smaller than the Tundra. So since they are both pretty close to the same weight, and pulling the same weight, the Ram brakes are being worked harder. That's why they were hotter.
The brake controller if it's like mine on my 2012 RAM 2500 has a brake type setting besides the gain control. It would seem that the trailer brakes were not working. If I remember right there are 3 types of electric brakes and also the traction control can effect the brake controller. You should be able to test this even on level towing and drag the brakes and notice a difference. I tow a Cimarron 3 horse slant load trailer and when set right you hardly notice that it's back there. If I want I could skid the wheels on my trailer.
In no way or form is the 5.7L pushrod (HEMI) better or faster than a DOHC variable valve timing 5.7L (I-Force). Since its debut in 2007, Toyota doesn't feel the need to tweak the engine to compete against its competitors. Toyota literally raised the bar with its 5.7L. I was not expecting them to show the Tundra out best the RAM since we're so biased toward our American products, especially after we just gave it Motor Trend TOTY for 2014. The funny thing is I have a 2008 Crewmax with K&N and Borla catback exhaust system and no hemi RAM has out run me, regardless of the year. But one thing I'll say is the Tundra is thirsty. Oh yeah, and I can pull a shuttle too ;) with my 10,400lbs towing capacity.
I just got a Ram 1500 Sport and love it so far. Sounds, looks and performs great. I was a GM guy for my last 9 trucks and wish I would have switched a long time ago. The Ram is a better truck all the way around, IMO.
Once again great review guys! I know you cant please everyone & you never said you were Consumer Reports. I own a 13 RAM 1500 Longhorn and live just outside of Denver, I towed my 4 ton toy hauler with 1500 lbs of gear over the Ike a dozen times this summer without problems. True its cooler in the fall but its always cool up there even in the summer. My neighbors FX4 with EcoBoost couldn't even keep up with me towing a 6500 lb camper, I think they are all great trucks.
Just FYI I still think they had the trailer brakes wrong, i read the manual, there are 4 setting in the towing menu light electric- heavy electric - light and heavy electric over hydrolic, plus the gain +\-, once set it can be stored in memory
The air suspension on that RAM/Fiat is just something to break. I like climbing up in the truck. I don't need it to lower for me, but I can see how this would come in handy for women.
Well they both could not have been more evenly matched! I have to say the Ram looks the best! But if the Tundra had a monochromatic color package like the Ram, cause the color is close, the Tundra just has the huge chrome grill and bumper that just looks so gaudy! But the Ram has the nicest interior hands down!
This whole video is a wash and completely pointless. You cant compare the two brake temperatures if one truck had the trailer helping and the other didn't. Also on the way back up the "Gauntlet" they only realized they weren't in tow/haul mode half way up which meant it wasn't turned on when they went down. They call themselves "The Fast Lane TRUCK" but seem to know nothing about trucks or how to tow and compare properly.
I don't think everything is legit here. You guys compare the brake temps and the 2nd time you test the Dodge downhill, you have the trailer brake controller working for the trailer, and the temps are still way high. The Tundra doesn't even HAVE a brake controller, so the Tundra was doing all of the braking, yet it's brake temps are less than half the temp of the Ram. If you are going to test and compare, please leave your personal opinions aside and test fairly. I also think you need the same driver for each truck so there are as few changes as possible. No way to duplicate the driving when 2 different people are going to drive each truck. When you guys measure the sound level, I clearly see higher numbers in the Dodge, but you don't show the meter when it kicked into a lower gear, yet you say "they are about the same". Well show it then, if the Tundra was at 69 decibels, and the Ram was at 72 db, that is not the same. Don't let your bias taint your tests. Somebody mentions that "reliability, quality, and dependability aren't as important in a truck", are you freakin' kidding me? Take a look at how each of these trucks stack up in JD Powers testing. Since when is reliability, quality, and dependability not important in anything?
I also go boating quite often, and regularly see the brand new ecoboost f-150s struggling to pull boats up the ramp. Tires spinning, going extremely slow. Ram and GM trucks pull them right out. (Obliviously any Diesel engine will pull a boat out of the water just fine, I am referring to gas.)
The ram has changed a lot in the last 4 years, my dad has a 2010 hemi st and it's the most basic truck. All of the controls are basic. I love it though and we might even get a cummins soon.
The Ram is an excellent truck but I would want one without the air suspension. If it's anything like MB's Airmatic then it's going to be one leaky system. I prefer steel springs and struts.
I'm my opinion having my family both own a 2007 tundra and a 2013 dodge they are birth very good trucks. Toyota trucks are the most reliable trucks you can buy but their gas mileage is very poor compared to their competitors.
My 08 tundra got 16.4 mpg, my 14 tundra 4wd gets 14-15 mpg. My wires hemi 2012 grand cherokee gets 16 mpg, i can only imagine what the ram would get, probably around 14-16 in a 4wd model. In my experience all v8's on the market right now for trucks get similar mpg numbers. Even the v6 ecoboost gets REAL WORLD 15 mpg.
Yeah i know that but i really feel that these cars companies already have the technology to make fuel efficient cars. For example Toyota was the first to come out with the fuel efficient Prius but why don't they do that with everyone of their cars? Trucks on average get about 12 to 13 and my dads tundra never exceeded 13 in the city no matter how efficiently he drove.
The only reason that the dodge out ran the ford in time is that the older gentleman did a better job at holding the f150 at 60mph. They are all great trucks and each has there pluses and minuses. But even with the fact it has twin turbos the ford is kicking ass with a V6, imagine what it would be like if the 5.0 or the 6.2 had twin turbos on them. They would be monsters. It would be sweet if they tested all of them with their respected power adder options to see how they perform
I had duel exhaust on my last truck and yes it was a problem. I had to turn the truck off when hitching and unhitching my camper because the exhaust fumes got right in my face. The last problem was the noise it makes becomes a irritating sound when towing a long distance.
The Ram is the truck to take through the mountains. No problems what so ever with my friends 2012 Ram 1500 5.7L through all day mountain driving up and down steep grades with 3 people and a large payload in the box. Ram is the best (and sexiest) truck! PS; she's trading her 2012 Ram 1500 for a 2014 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7L soon.
I'd still buy the tundra , you know so I don't get rust on my truck after 2 winters and so I don't have to go to the dealership every two months for a recall.
You did not have your brake controller setup correctly. I would like to know what the temps would have been if you actually had the trailer brakes doing their job stopping the trailer. On a 7 mile downhill run, if the trailer brakes were only 86 degrees, I hardly think they were doing anything. GO RAM tho!!!!!
I'm sorry to hear that. Based off my experience with the problem I've learnt these facts. If indeed that was the situation you dealt with I'm sorry. My mother in law had the same issue and it just turned out to be the mat's in the car which was a simple enough fix. The car was recalled and fixed but beyond that our experience with Toyota has been positive.
The transmission in the ram is much better than the tundra being a 8 speed which like they said, allows the engine rpm to stay in the powerband. Unlike the chevy which was bogging then down shifting revving out and up shifting and bogging.
Nope. The disparity is partially due to how long it takes each truck to reach 60 mph from the starting point (it makes a difference). We will add to the loads in the near future which should create more interesting times.
People complaining about American made is a moot point. A lot of the companies are coming to the USA anyways. The American companies are shipping foreigners in who don't speak English to work at the plants in America and it's made in America but not American made. I'd love to support all American products but when it comes to cost and what you actually get with a lot of things it's just not worth it as much anymore. BTW I want this newer transmission Ram.
I really like the new Ram 1500 Truck, but the Ram was at full throttle most the way up the steep part of the hill, the Ford Ecoboost still had plenty of peddle left and got significantly better gas mileage. You can think the few tenths of a second are a win for the Ram 1500, but the Ford Ecoboost is the CLEAR winner so far. I am anxious to see how the Ram 1500 Diesel does in your test.
Guys need to test the trailer brakes the top and make sure the setting is correct. The trailer brakes weren't working enough on the second descent either.
If you go back to the F150 Ecoboost on this run, they NEVER had it on the floor like the rest of these trucks. They constantly commented on how they could do 80+ if they wanted. This real world 60 MPH on highway testing really doesn't show what the trucks could actually do. Get off the legal highway and put 'er down - leave it there, then we'll see who builds the best truck.
I see the ford did it in 7.36 with 2000 more pounds on it in the cooler weather and that was with continual lifting because it was over running the speed limit.
The Focus and Fusion were both Acceptable. Every manufacturer has a trouble car in the lineup. We're not talking about safety with regards to their entire line here. All I'm have been saying is Toyota has taken strides to correct issues despite the fact that it was user error. If Ford had a bunch of cars crashing due to user error I'd be on their side too saying that people should take responsibility for their actions. Only in the US do some people find something to blame and sue for it.
Chrysler is the first to come out with any significant features on a vehicle. For having bad transmissions everyone is using it. The tundra is a nice truck, but the ram blows it away in features.
I have to say both are plausible trucks (not to mention really EXPENSIVE) for your towing needs. but if I had the money, I would pick the Ram (would have to get used to the gear selecting dial though) just because I already drive 2 Dodge/Chryslers kinda like how they were conversating about at around 12:45. funny thing is my father drives GMs (older model) and yet I drive Died.On.Daily.Gas.Errands.S.
Why didn't you guys just set the cruise to 60MPH in both trucks instead of trying to maintain exactly 60 manually? Also did you have the RAM in tow/haul mode while going down the mountain?
Nice video, I'll throw in a couple cents on the Ram brake controller. Mine has the integrated controller, and while you can have the gain set up, while you're touching the brakes, you can see how much of the trailer brakes it's actually using. You have to get into the truck brakes a good bit before the trailer brakes kick in, mine hardly ever goes over 30% indicated (99 is at full brake force), even with a 7000+ lb trailer behind me. This could explain a bit why the truck did it all, even with gain up, if you were just making light taps on the brakes, it probably never engaged the trailer brakes.
You can see on the brake control module (where gain typically shows) the percentage of brake the truck is using, or in the EVIC in the dash. Didn't make that clear, thanks :)
As a Ram owner, I love it. Plenty of power and sounds really nice at cold starts.
I've personally have owned a 04 ram since 05 and I have to say in the 10 years that I've had this truck I've had absolutely no problem what's so ever never broken down and it's the most dependable ride I've ever owned I love it .
Sure you only one lucky person on whole earth my ram broke after 40k
Not gonna lie, HEMI sounds good :) Oh and P.S., thank you Chrysler for offering an 8 speed auto - seems to work quite good!
I just don't like that nob For the eight speed
+chris ward
I didn't like it either at first, after the first night of driving it, I love it!
just be happy the pinion nut didn't come off while towing up that hill.
I think Ram makes the best looking trucks... I do like the look of the Tundra but without a diesel option I won't buy one.
I really really like my diesel Ram ecodiesel. Gets really good fuel economy. I run mine on vegetable oil with no issues
I agree these tests are fun to watch but they are pointless
Dodge make the best sounding trucks they all sound amazing.
Nice rumble
Nice price tag on replacing the cam and lifters
It's obvious after your second downhill on the dodge that you still had zero trailer brakes...86 degrees is nothing, that's just tire and bearing temperature...
Yep. I always adjust my trailers until I feel it pulling then back of just a hair
Glad you guys made the video. You gotta love the new 8 speed transmission in the ram. Better for towing plus added fuel economy, what's not to like.
Love my 2017 ram1500 with the 8 speed! Looking for a good sounding muffler right now its deleted and it only sounds good at high rpm
I love the new 8-speed, way better than their other transmission options.
727 was the best transmission
My dad has an ‘11 Sport with the 5 speed and I prefer it over the 8 speed. Gears are just too short in my opinion
As long as your not keeping it long a Dodge is fine. Otherwise pay more and get a gm or get an old truck from the 80s lol
TheSquiddlyspooge Very good valid points.
yeah man the "new" hemi is 11 years old now and has had very little change except for MDS in 05 and VVT, compared with all the engines available in the market, i'd say that the Hemi has held up best of all... not saying it isnt outdated, but its definitely durable
Thamac15 as long as the tundras frame doesn’t rust out...
My dad was a GM guy and I am still a Ram dude. As the famous saying goes, "if you can't Dodge it, Ram it".
I have a '96 Dodge Ram 2500. Within it's warranty period, it had 4 recalls. With 60K miles, I've had to replace the water pump twice. The intermittent wipers quit working and various knobs had to be replaced.
What a truck!!! GUT'S, GLORY, RAM!!! WOOOOO!!!!
Every one is just jealous because the ram won quit ya'll crying because the Toyota and ford. All of ya'll are just butt hurt because the ram is better than it used to be
The transmissions in the Chryslers are GARBAGE and that hemi will never make it to 500,000 miles like the tundra will and more.
@@919hey that truck doesn't have a transmission made by Chrysler though
Yeah. go watch the other video...
LOL
Me myself I own a 2013 ram 1500 and I like it very much but that's my opinion right or wrong I love my truck have a nice day
I remember this video way back when I was in my early 30s and bought the refreshed 2013 Ram Bighorn.
sounds good! wouldn't mind listening to that note all day. better than the radio
Clearly the Tundra won the brake contest with half the temperature. The brakes on the trailer were inoperable. I'll take the Tundra, thanks.
LOVE my 2013 Ram 1500 CC 4x4!
How many miles are you at? any issues? looking to get a 2011 1500 laramie
You'd think for another $9,000, you'd get, you know... brakes that don't suck.
Love our 2012 Ram Hemi! 🙌
Ram is one bad ass truck!! I just love mine! They keep making trucks like this I will be sticking with ram!
Brand loyalty aside, it is cool to see what these trucks are capable of these days.
You have to do the 3.0 eco diesel towing the diamond in the ruff and compare mpg:)
Where's the eco diesel towing challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
Bradson Vogel that's the 2015... not the 14
I know this is 7 years later, but almost everyone knows that you don’t want the Eco Diesel!
@@dodgeguyz yeah I’m glad I didn’t get one 😂
The brake controller if it's like mine on my 2012 RAM 2500 has a brake type setting besides the gain control. It would seem that the trailer brakes were not working. If I remember right there are 3 types of electric brakes and also the traction control can effect the brake controller. You should be able to test this even on level towing and drag the brakes and notice a difference. I tow a Cimarron 3 horse slant load trailer and when set right you hardly notice that it's back there. If I want I could skid the wheels on my trailer.
I still want to see a Tundra with a TRD SuperCharger go up the Ike Gauntlet.
Ram by far best truck out there
2 years ago it wasn't
That hemi put work in. Sound good goin up also.🤣
They are both very nice trucks. I'm a Ram guy myself and I think I like the look of the front end of this truck better than the new 2019 style.
Ford sucks
Scott Dilley Then why has the F150 been the number 1 selling truck for 37 years straight?
I am a 6'7" guy so I dont even use the steps, however air suspension is much nicer on Michigan roads (horrible potholes everywhere).
Hajj David You make a valid point. I can see the air suspension being good for that.
Hajj David I can guarantee you that the potholes here in New York are much worse even though it is warmer here
Well they both could not have been more evenly matched!
Definitely not Rocket Scientists
You Say this cause the tundra got beat
You can tow with a SUV . The real test is when you load it up and see how it handle the road. Would you be so kind and do that test.
Amazing Dodge
Yup
Trucks on average get about 12 to 13 and my dads tundra never exceeded 13 in the city no matter how efficiently he drove.
....
Cuz its a truck not a pryus.Venomous Jason
Yeah I understand but 2 more mpg would make a big difference
My friend is pushing 400,000 miles with his Ram. It's as Cummins though, but that's just the engine and the rest of the truck is still truckin along.
The last problem was the noise it makes becomes a irritating sound when towing a long distance.
if you guys cared so much about american made then you'd all stop shopping at Harbor freight for your tools.
Dj von Zell it is very hard to buy American made anything, but when I can I look for it. Made in 🇺🇸, by American companies.
I m from Vietnam and I fukking hate china. I always buy MADE IN USA over made in china.
Awesome I plan on getting my 2015 Ram1500 Black out Express.
Get it they are fun as hell
+AlvinRey83 LOL, oh man, not you too??? I have one, they are everywhere, trust me.
AlvinRey83 that's the best looking one
The car was recalled and fixed but beyond that our experience with Toyota has been positive.
whats the point of that trade? barely any different 100% identical drivetrain minus the 8 box
Love the Ike Gauntlet tests. The only reason I would buy a truck is to tow and car on a trailer.
The transmission in the ram is much better than the tundra being a 8 speed which like they said, allows the engine rpm to stay in the powerband. Unlike the chevy which was bogging then down shifting revving out and up shifting and bogging.
Q.D.R is much better in the Toyota truck compared to the American Big 3 trucks. Check Consumer Reports for conformation.
Should of used the s/c tundra if your going to use the ecoboost. It would of walked all over the them.
Ram is the way to go
If you go back to the F150 Ecoboost on this run, they NEVER had it on the floor like the rest of these trucks.
Yep, the Tundra now doesn't really have many impressive numbers or features compared to the competition, but I'd still take it over anything else.
You guys need to add more gain on the brake controller. You had it set at 5 & the brake temp was virtually the same as before. Maybe try 7 or 8.....
