    I learned to cook as a new bride from my mother’s cook, therefore, I raised my family eating like field hands and cooking alllll day. I quit that after my children were grown and gone. I did raise my family in chicken soup and stone ground whole wheat bread! Nobody was ever sick, or had dental problems! I got a flour mill from the Mormons with a stone burr. So, I highly recommend the K.I.S.S. Principle: keep it simple, sweetie!

    You are so gracious and always giving freely of yourself. I’m an old RN. Also, a widowed, great-grandma, raising 2 grandkids on social security. My health is a hot mess!
    I saw that you live in the TWILIGHT land lol. Tourists can be good or not so good. I live in western North Carolina - about as far from you as a person can be in this country. It would be such a blessing to have you as a neighbor. I’ve bent your ear enough. Thank you, Heidi. May God continue to bless all the work of your hands.

      It did put our small remote town on the map anyway and did bring business into town but a lot of times it is a nuisance. Especially when they are the ones that stop right in front of you in the middle of the road to take photos and do not care one bit that they are holding up traffic

    Some people can cook by ‘seat of their pants’ others have to have a recipe. Some need a recipe but are able to jump off from there.
    I’m extremely thankful getting my great grandmothers recipes. Just a list of ingredients and amounts with no directions, but I can put it together and can change sweetener or oils as I need. Plus having ratio of baking powder or soda to flour helps for many new cooks

    Some people need to use the pause button, get out an index card and write down what is shared. Back when people took notes and used index cards we didn't rely on others to do what we can do for our self. Sad that people expect Heidi to do all the work they don't want to do. I love this channel and Heidi you are amazing!!!

      Thank you Cindy. I do not mind sharing the written recipes when I have time to do so but yes, when people already get the information for free then get demanding about it (rather than asking politely) that one really irritates me. It is as if they see their time it takes to write down what was already provided as far more valuable than the time already poured into the videos let alone the extra time of writing it out for them

    Hi Heidi, thank you for this if I can possibly give you an idea as to why you might want to consider writing your favorite dishes down. As a daughter I followed behind my mother and learned from her first hand but, as a granddaughter I didn’t get to do this with my grandmother who was also an excellent cook. We have no guarantee videos will stay on TH-cam and there might come a day you have a granddaughter or grandson that will want grandmothers recipes, especially your favorites. Just a thought from my own experience of wanting my grandmothers recipes on my fathers side as I know my mom cooked like her mom.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes, I understand that and as I said, I am working on it AS time allows. I do have quite a few written down as far as ingredients but as I am sure you understand, there is more to making a dish than just the ingredients so for many of them it will take quite a bit of time for me to type them up so again, AS time allows here and there, which at this moment is rare. Just keeping up on comments like this takes a couple of hours or more a day, then there are the videos that take several hours every day. Then packing up seeds for the store, trying to keep up on the crocheted items on the store, harvesting more produce and seed from the garden, making dinners, watching my grandbaby, and the list goes on and on. I am still hoping I can finally find time soon to get back into making the skirts again that people keep asking me about....

    • @SRAshley100
      @SRAshley100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@RainCountryHomestead I apologize if you took my comment wrong and don’t want to make your days any rougher. I simply meant we all have a special dish or two we know our family loves and that’s the ones that I meant I wish I had of my grandmothers and also wish they were in her handwriting,not typed. At any rate, I won’t bother you anymore with comments like this, as you said. It was simply just a thought for your special recipes for your grandchildren and I meant it in a kind way, nothing else. I am a nostalgic kind of person, not a mean one and would never mean to imply anything different. In addition, what I was referring to is knowing you are a new grandma when my grandkids came over through the years there were certain dishes they truly loved. I wrote those recipes down and put into my recipe box for them when they grew up. I realize you are a busy person and was not implying in know way you add to the recipes you already have on here, in fact I thanked you for them and then went on to mention about grandchildren. You have many years to find what they love of yours. Hopefully, this helps you to understand my comment. I certainly value your time and what you do for people Heidi…and have sent several people to your channel because of your value. It was simply an idea for the future for those precious grands.

    Heidi I really appreciate your videos. I love that you dont strive to present yourself as an expert or brand yourself. It comes off as you are just sharing. Its a real turnoff to me when I see other TH-camrs, especially the younger ones act authoriatative and put out tutorials even when its the first time they are doing something. A lot of them are just really good salesmen. And what are they selling? Themselves. They are constantly selling themselve instead of SHARING what they know to help others. I really cant stand when they are constantly selling "Classes" online when its the same information that is out there for free and common knowledge. They ask for donations and pelt you with commercials in their content. I dont mean the TH-cam commercials, I mean those obnoxious "this video is sponsored by....ad nauseum". Thank you for what you do.

      Thank you! I really appreciate this. It can be easy for creators to get sucked into more ways to earn money and yes, we want to make our time worth it but I chose to only implement those ways where people a choice (i.e. choosing to purchase through our amazon links but also not feeling pressured to if they can find it cheaper elsewhere or do not want to buy through amazon) while also still having access to all the information I have to share and not having anyone feel left out or like they are missing something if they cannot afford to be a part of some clique or class.

    Thanks Heidi, I'm going to check this out.
    I'm with you... very rarely do I ever make something exactly the same way twice so it's hard to give someone a recipe. Both that and the fact I also don't measure accurately anymore except when it might be really important.

    Oh, that's so cool! I didn't know you had recipes available! I've been frantically scribbling away as you speak all this time! It's so funny that people are actually helping when they dislike a video! Haha! I've only disliked a video once in all the years I've watched TH-cam videos. Normally I don't see the point; why not just keep scrolling or stop watching?

    OMGosh~ You're SO AWESOME! I had NO clue about your Patreon being free. I have probably 100 of your recipes saved from videos I've downloaded, THEN I copy them from below the description & have to paste them into my MS "Notebook" bc there's a glitch in MS 3-D Paint that you can't directly paste words onto it... THEN I have to re-do the RECIPE bc NOTEBOOK doesn't RECOGNIZE the format. After I'm done with ALL that, I copy & paste onto a 3-D Paint... TA-DA! LOL. One of the best things about your videos are all the BEAUTIFUL backgrounds YOU INCLUDE. I grab plenty screencaps to include on the recipes!
    *Thank~You SO MUCH! God Bless You & Yours*

    I know exactly what you mean by not having a recipe that someone can follow. I've had many friends and family ask me for my recipe for things I've made. I tell them to the best if my ability how much if each I gradient I put in, what order and how to cook it. I don't really measure anything. I eyeball what I add to a dish. Because of that when my friends or family cook one of my dishes they come back to me and say "I cooked it the exact way you said but it didn't taste like yours". My reply is always "it doesn't taste like mine because I didn't cook it. You did. That makes it yours so just tweak it till you get it the way YOU like it". Lol

    This is extremely helpful to me. I watch food videos only when there's a written recipe, because I use a laptop and find the stop, pause, go in order to write down the ingredients and preparation way too tedious. Besides that, I sometimes can't even read my own writing - lol. So I need to be able to print the recipe, as well as watch the video for additional tips. I don't donate to any videos, but you are certainly worth donating to and I can do that occasionally in moderate amounts, especially for your Italian sausage soup!! Thank you.
