Cubemaps in 3d engines are often used to fake quick reflections, makes sense for them to be so dark as the reflection isnt necessarily meant to be super visible

You kept mentioning Z+F but that brand collab didn't exist until Splatoon 3 lol Zekko and Firefin before then were just separate brands.
