It makes me think about the fact that several Nintendo games are post-apocalyptic. Pikmin, Kirby (technically), Splatoon and probably several other games I forgot about.

which was the western lot and not the guys actually making the game.
there's an intrinsic sense to there's squids and they shoot ink meanwhile it's also paintball as kids. what's that have to do with rabbits
that's nice but i don't see very many equating the idea of having paint fights with rabbits.
@@Pinkolol16 I think the rabbits could still work in a similar game style, it just needs to be better designed and themed around rabbits. Like instead of turning into a shirt turtle, they could just burrow
I don't think it's the hiding part, it's that they're associated with ink at all. You don't normally equate the idea that rabbits have anything to do with paint or shooting it. To make them hide by burrowing would be easy, it's the actual point of why are they shooting ink to get what they want, or paint or whatever
I'm not being mean, I just imagine this was the process they thought through when making it. The only reason they thought of them initially was because they're territorial. Ok, so why would they choose ink to fight with, why wouldn't they just get more aggressive, what's intrinsic about rabbits and paint
and that's why they stuck to them until someone suggested squids, which then just made more sense, squids shoot ink, it's a multi-layered pun now that they're squids that shoot ink and they're also squids that shoot ink (in human form, since they've got a gun), which looking back, couldn't have been achieved with the rabbits.
It's not that rabbits couldn't work in a game it's that this type of game, a paint shooter, wouldn't work very well for them, or similar. They would need to be basically completely different. Sometimes things need to remain on the cutting room floor sometimes.

Am I the only one who found it crazy that everyone was questioning "why are rabbits shooting ink?" when Nintendo's biggest IP is an Italian plumber who can jump high and has to rescue a princes from a dragon turtle?
Yeah, cuz in a way, it does make sense. It could’ve been more like rabbits shooting paint, in other words rabbits playing paintball. I would’ve loved that (maybe even more than squids, now that I think about that) since Nintendo has always been very abstract with their creations. I mean, they helped make Pokémon, which is VERY abstract.

Just a few things that you might've might've missed:
*Although Octolings are now playable in Splatoon 2, the enemy Octoling hairstyle is never usable without hacking
*There was a different 1 minute left theme that played during the demo instead of Now or Never. There Is no existing version of it without sound effects, but you can hear it in footage of the demo
*In the single player trailer, a different version of Cephaloparade can be heard in the beginning, lacking the background noises of the main version, and the trailer also includes an outro for Tentacular Circus, which is never heard in-game, as the song loops before the part were it would've played (It was probably created just for the trailer, but it's still interesting)
*According to interviews, DJ Octavio was originally going to be a wasabi maker, and him holding branches of wasabi in the final game was meant to reference this original version of the character. The intro to his fight was going to be him chopping up wasabi to the rhythm of the music, and this was latter made into the beats that start playing in the final version of his fight intro (Also, in Splatoon 2, there was originally going to be a clone of Octavio with this wasabi-chef nature)

honestly huge shoutout for doing more research than just "splatoon used to have tofus and bunnies!" because I actually learned a lot from this video abt the game's development! I really appreciated the stuff about the stages, it seems like other channels on here looked over that in lieu of making a more concise but less informative video. thanks for making this!

Sometimes I wish that we could play as the "enemy" octolings, i.e. special, possibly purple eyes and *thicc* hair. Even if they were just customization options, I'd bet a lot of people would appreciate the new hairstyle and eyes. One of my hopes for Splatoon 3.

I just loved it that he took the time to Photoshop and go to Wallmart or any store to put tofoon
I just realized, them being rabbits might be where the mechanic of the Super Jump came from, since when you think of rabbits, one of the first things you think of is jumping.
Edit: Squids jumping out of water with considerable power is a real occurrence, so it's possible that the Super Jump mechanic came about after the change to squids. It's also possible that they struggled with the decision to go with squids because they needed a creature that powerful jumps would make sense for, and they didn't think of real-life squid jumping at first, but that's pure speculation.
Also, the human-to-bean idea did have the concept of shapeshifting. It's interesting how aspects of these scrapped earlier ideas find their way in much later on, whether it be through inspiration, subconscious memories of forgotten scrapped work, or pure coincidence.
Edit 2: I just realized, the cape OG Agent 3 wears in Octo Expansion may well be a reference to the capes from the early concept for the franchise! Also, I'm surprised that you never noted the resemblance that the hair styles in S1 have to bunny ears. (Also, the song isn't called "Splatattack", it's just called "Splattack".)

i know a few people wich are bad at splatoon 2 just becausw they dont use motion controls and one of them using the excuse of getting dizzy by the fast movement of the camera, i myself always played with motion controls causing me to get a few surprise kills wich are really good
