Right??? I feel like they put so much love into the first two games, and gave up with the 3rd game... Trashy maps and kits, terrible loading times, X Ranks being bad, and just other bad things. It sucks because I was so hyped for it to come out, especially back during the Premiere Fest in August 2022. But then they just.. barely tried...
Most of the problems with the game came down to the map design. The changes in the last season really improved a lot of the maps but there are definitely a few I still hate. Looking at you flounder heights, scorch gorge, and brine water
Splatoon 3 was a game that completely turned itself around with its updates. The stage turn around happened even earlier then what was said in the video being Drizzle Season 2023 under a year after release.
To me I feel like Splatoon 3 took 2 steps forward and like 18 steps back. While I do enjoy things such as the squid roll, some more customization and the addition of Side Order,I feel like they should've done wayyy more like add more customization to make it more interesting(like giving us all the eyebrow option),variety of the kits(like why 2 weapons have to have the exact same kit or something similar),a balance on the sub and special numbers cause we only had 5 new specials over the course of the entire life cycle vs the 1 new sub weapon we got *SINCE THE BEGINNING* There were some things that they added late I think should've been added way earlier(i.e. getting silver and gold scales by doing salmon shifts and not just relying on the king, opportunity to get conches via mirrors)but as they say 'better late than never' As for Deep Cut,they do drop lore about them but they're only every in the sunken scrolls(which only true Splatoon lorists delve deep to),the news(which 99% of the player base either skip it altogether or don't read at all and would rather practice)or somewhere like an artbook or an article to a magazine, which there are very few. So while I do think Splatoon 3 was still a success,it was still a letdown compared to 2 due to little marketing outside of Japan, the high potential use of collabs in game(which we only got 1 in Calbee chips which was Japan only) and just overall people wanting something bigger than they expected(and I'm not counting Grand Festival which is a whole 'nother can of worms).
It didn't get as much development as it needed because of the switch 2. Because of that it didn't implemented its new features that well. This game is a paradox as it polishes and fixes s2's problems while not polishing its own features. The update cycle was also dumb, we had to wait 3 months for not that much content and we don't have third kits in *Splatoon 3* . It's the best game in the series yet It's a disapointment. At least each new weapon they added feels unique and most feels powerful. Also please watch Minecraft parkour civilization It's a banger
Splatoon 3 is my personal second greatest video game I've played so i think the answer is a no. Honestly it hasn't been even ten years and Nogami's creation is just getting started in becoming better!
I personally found more enjoyment in 3 than in 2 (might be newbie bias because I never played 1 and I only started 2 after all the splatfests were over and done with) and I do agree that we should've seen more of Deep Cut and got more lore for them. Also I'm glad you're doing okay after last week's storm and hope that you'll be feeling better and can hang out on discord again soon!
I like splatoon 3 because it has all of the idols in the game and splatoon 2 we can only see inkopoils plaza and in splatoon 3 they just put amiibo support to remember the grand festival a month ago and splatoon 2 doesn’t have that feature so if it’s splatoon 2 or splatoon 3 splatoon 3 wins
I personally enjoyed 3. Although, 3 was my first Splatoon game so I had no bias from the previous games. I did end up getting 2 afterwards solely for OE. I do prefer 2's story mode and DLC but as far as online and personalization I 100% prefer 3. I don't think any game in the series is better than the other, I just see that there are some aspects that one game may have a strength in over the other. My absolute favorite part of 3 is the customization overhaul. I love the banners and the lockers! (And the absence of picking between "boy" or "girl" and basically only having to pick your voice was something that made me happy even though probably no one else cares about because its such a subtle detail) My least favorite thing is probably the exclusion of certain maps from 1 and 2 (and the absence of bronze aerospray and clear dapples /hj) Overall the customization makes me happy and I wish i got to play urchin underpass but oh well
If I had to rank the splatoon games will it would be Splatoon 3 splatoon 2 splatoon 1 in last place cause I didn’t play splatoon 1 and never got to experience splatfest in splatoon 1
As someone who is a bit more competitive, i will say most of the kits are moreso made for the casual fanbase. Like no one is out here using dapples, but both kits are really fun to use (ik cuz i find them fun lmao). Main problem is we have so many subs and specials, but not enough weapons for them. Its why a lot of people are coping for 3rd kits
The matchmaking system is really weird. S2's ranked matchmaking is actually good, it's similar to chess's matchmaking and would apply to every rank, you will only see your power and ranking once you reached X rank. It's most common complaints were that power gaps were fairly common and you would lose 50 points every loss yet win up to 0 points per win. It takes hours to find a match because nobody plays S2. The top 500 leaderboards are either empty or has 2 people, that means that only a fiew nutjobs have spent 10 times these insane queue times to get their rankings. S3 has too many different queues that does the same thing. X battles matchmaking is the same as s2's and it puts you against weapons of similar range, but for some reason chargers are in their own separate group. You must complete a bo5 series before winning/losing points and there is a minimum amount of points you're guarenteed to gain/loose if the power gap is to big. However now you have people with powers below 1900 wich is the minimum to play X rank in S2. Anarchy series has introduced this awesome series system, however there's no skill-based matchmaking nor comp system like in X battles and you can't even derank, wich is weird for the "competitive" anarchy battles. Anarchy open would be perfect if it didn't afect your rank and if instead of adding this pseudo-league power system they added league battles back. Honnestly anarchy series should fuse with X battles and give you the ability to derank. It should basically go back to S2's ranked system, but you need to complete series to progress and it should put you against weapons of similar range. Open should stay as it is, but whithout affecting your rank nor having the pseudo-league feature. League battles should come back along with it's rotation ranking. It would maybe also even have a seasonal ranking like X battles, where you would complete a bo5 against another team to progress.
I don't know what I should be for Splatoween. Aaroen the Electric Wizard 🪄, Sir Aaroen the Great 🗡️🛡️, or Aaroen the Drizzle Ninja 🥷? So hard to decide lol
@@Fryethusiast if they are talking about X rank, I watched a video that said X rank in Splatoon 2 needed the requirement of S+ 10, meaning it was mostly limited to a certain amount of players and now it’s accessible to everyone who reaches S+. That or getting different Ranks depending the modes
Man, splatoon 3 had a special magic to make things that are seemingly don't look or sound that good to be straight up top tier

The kits on average were good, it’s just that the ones that were bad were head scratchingly, what were the devs thinking bad.

What?
Splatoon 3 is objectively better, but it has absolutely NO sauce compared to 1 and 2
If missile, Ink armor, and stingray spam is considered sauce then I guess so
Splatoon 1 had the best music, stages & aiming.
This specific game and all its players are an actual failure.
besides deep cut and the music, splatoon 3 has no reason to exist on a console with a mainline splatoon already on it
