Fallout as a "brand" is alive, but the identity and charm it once had died after Obsidian finished Fallout: New Vegas' last DLC.
Although I didn't play NV, I watched my son's play for a fair while. I tend to agree with you.

I agree. It's sad really, I want to play a new good Fallout game by people who respects the franchise. As the creator of Fallout (Tim Cain) said "Fallout is about exploring a post nuclear world and ethics, not to make a bigger plasma gun".

I played and like Fallout 3, new vegas, and yes to some extent Fallout 4. But to me Fallout died when Interplay died. The originals had better lore and world building and writing that anything Bethesda came out with.

I'm okay with a multiplayer Fallout game. What I'm not okay with is the concept they're going with. Co-oping through the wasteland, doing quests, and building cool bases sounds great! But then they say if you play online, you have to deal with randos who will make it their goal to make your experience miserable. Spending hours building a cool base with my friends, only to have some 8 year old with too much time on his hands drop a nuke on me, doesn't sound fun at all.
It will be so easy to troll and grief and it might ruin the game for a lot of people. Or maybe that's going to be the game in itself. I suspect people play it for a month and then abandon it.
Watch a interview. Todd Howard has said over a hundred times now that they'll work against griefing.
That doesn't mean they will succeed in doing so.
Also I said that could be the game in itself. If the game is stealing their shit, killing everybody, looting their corpses and destroying their base, then that doesn't seem all that appealing.

It’s like Bethesda knew people wouldn’t react well to the asset flip fallout 76. So they announced Starfield and E6 even though neither are anywhere near complete. E6 probably not even in development

EA’s was far better than Bethesda’s imo. *If*, AMD it’s a big if, they follow through, they go from the biggest douche practices in games and the 2nd worst consumer bang for your buck company (sorry, but Take 2 has that honor with their Shark Cards, having Rockstar coast with GTAV forever, like Bethesda is doing, their Sports Division making Ultimate Team seem inexpensive, and they do it in normal career mode that most people play single player).
EA said more SP, only cosmetic DLC from now on, Origin, which was already one of the most consumer friendly parts of AAA gaming that no one talks about because, well EA, is one upping Microsoft with a $100 a year package for all their games, including new releases (now you get 79 for $50, with the newest being ME: A I believe, but I could whip off 20 very good games off the top of my head, from KotOR 1&2 too Jade Empire too Dead Space 1&2 (3 as well but it sucks), Dragonage 1-3 (Deluxe Editions with most DLC), Mass Effect 1-3, Ultima 1-9, FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, Battlefield 1942, Battlefront 1, both Xwing/Tie Fighter games, a bunch of Sims (not just the Sims, I mean Flight and such), a couple Need for Speeds, Unravel, Take of Two Brothers and the list goes on.

Creation Club will be the end of Bethesda. And I dont think they can compete with Skioblivion/Skiwind or Beyond Skyrim in terms of content, quest making and models. Its sad but it seems that bethesda just makes hollow games to be filled with content from the comunity. Even bug fixes.
It really says something when I'm more stoked for a mod on an Elder Scrolls I don't even like all that much than Elder Scrolls VI.
You know what I REALLY want to see? The Beyond Skyrim team remaking Skyrim itself to fit with the rest of the Beyond Skyrim mod. I bet they'd put Bethesda to absolute fucking shame. Make the Nords worship their own pantheon and turn Skyrim into a true magical icy land again.
Now if only modders could fix the issues with the lack of stats (Strength, Agility, etc.) and all the different spell effects Morrowind and Oblivion had and turn it back into a real RPG rather than the watered down bullshit Skyrim was.
I don't see how people making content for there game better then they do is going to be Bethesda's end, also the Creation Club is more for console then PC as mods are heavily restricted, especially on PS4.

Hunter5 It was originally supposed to be a game mode that shipped with FO4 and players could just host locally, that’s why it looks so similar. It’s because 75%+ of the assets are pulled straight from FO4.

well, that's certainly true. What seriously bothered me - and I have nightmares of it to this day - is the tiny fat hobbit and, next to him, the giant 8 foot tall Hill Troll with long blonde hair and a pot belly [a traditional mark of the Hill Troll of Bethesthamin].
The *Hill Troll* is not known for its intelligence or wit. The fact it stood there wildly waving its arms at the shill-audience without a response was kinda worrying. Hill Trolls are not known for their patience and for getting angry when nobody responds to their threats.

The Elder Scrolls 6 theme was just a new version of the main Elder Scrolls theme that each game in the series has its own version of.

13:30 im not defending bethesda but thats not the dragonborn song, bethesda music guy has been using the same song since morrowind but with different note arrangements and stuff, the theme from morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim (and the elder scrolls 6, which seems to me like its in highrock) are all the same song just remade to match the overall theme of the game
I still remember when I watched the trailer and I yelled "Hammerfell?!?!?!?" Then it was kind of confirmed by the grey beards of the community that it was either Hammerfell or High Rock. You don't need to know much about Elder Scrolls to actually see the things Bethesda tried to show.
I think both TESVI and Starfield trailers were alright, they just confirmed they were working on it. I don't know what people were expecting to be honest... same with Doom Ethernal. "Uughh they didn't show anything!" They showed the region the story of TESVI is going to be developed you stupid thurd (which if you follow the lore, will let you guess a few possible options for the story of the game), and they showed you the game is being worked on, it's a fucking teaser for fuck sake... for some reason many people this year's E3 felt like they were owed something, like they "deserve" to know, like the companies had the obligation to make games for them. But the beautiful grfx, detailed hellspawn, the intensity of combat, hidden levels are always what made Doom so great. You know where you are w Doom.That's the beauty of Doom. That's why I loved the past 3 Dooms so much.

Also, why would Bethesda sell Fallout or TES (yes, it's TES, not ES). In Fallout 4 they did an okay work, Fallout 76 was garbage but I don't think they even tried so I wounldn't count that. When it comes to TES, they have been doing consistently good. Skyrim was the last (real) game of that series and it was pretty damn good... why would they sell it...?

My own feel / approach to Fallout / Bethesda is different. First played BOS in college that another guy pirated. My nearest play to it was Baldur's Gate but that was way better.
FO3 came out and I was pissed off by the auto-aim, which was really auto-miss. Yes, you could "roleplay" either a goody-two-shoes collecting scrap for a few measly caps or a psychopath, the latter exemplified by "blow up Megaton for a few measly caps" or throw slave collars on random npc's for a few measly caps. But killing everything and selling their stuff was far more profitable in any case (still was in FO4). With all the glitches, bugs, crashes in FO3 I skipped New Vegas until recently and... couldn't finish it because of save corruption.
FO4 came out and for a while it seemed far superior to FO3 in every way. No crappy auto-aim. The initial questline seemed to naturally progress from coming out of the Vault / Sanctuary. And I liked being able to progress between the different factions until decision point...
...but once I found the 2-shot combat rifle I couldn't bear to use any other gun. Most powerful .32 for easy areas or conserve my good ammo, most powerful standard weapon, best sniper, most powerful full auto mode... just such a superior gun there was no point in bothering with anything else. Not the gatling guns which tickled behemoths / queens for a few minutes when the combat rifle can blow their heads off in a couple shots.
This thing was at least 2 orders of magnitude more powerful than a mininuke when modded up.
Took me a while to notice that the initial quest line devolved into what they called the radiant quest system, the "another settlement needs OUR help, so YOU go help them while the rest of us do nothing" thing.
Then I noticed how mines / rockets and even taking direct hits from nukes barely scratched my guy, thanks to the miracle of level 50+ hit points and ballistic weave (screw you and your fast-draining batteries and constant falling apart and slow, slow movement, "power armor"). Then as I leveled up occasionally a new enemy would spawn in an area of equal level at the time I entered when it refreshed. Toward the end my guy and the enemies were all bullet sponges, I just used combat rifle full auto on everything, screw conservation when I have 50K ammo, and my guy's arms more marked up by stimpacks than any heroin junkie's.
Very "immersive". At least BOS did it better than this.
And the base building. At first I thought it was a great feature, great new idea. An optimistic pre-war survivor rebuilding the world? Hell yeah! But... to actually build a base I'd have to console up the poly-item limit to actually be able to build actual bases instead of shanties... figure out why stuff won't snap together... figure out how to patch up the odd holes in my walls... work around my base near the bridge disappearing but still counting for item-poly count... and then realizing that I'm taking a week in-game doing that rather than progressing through a questline, very immersion-breaking like it's a separate game penalizing the real game.
I tried survival mode and it was an interesting idea but... only save when my guy sleeps, with random crashes out in the wild still happening? Having to chug 10,000 gallons of water every 5 minutes and eat a whole herd of brahmin too just to not be stuck on starving? No enemy respawns ever? What a mess.
In other words, the whole thing was still completely screwed up, and just like FO3 completely forgot about / didn't care much for the main quest line.
Got the SP on sale but that mostly sucked. And after that Bethesda came out with this BS in-game paid mods store and that really pissed me off.
In reality, the real heroes are the modding community for Bethesda games, and Bethesda is doing everything possible to screw them over. They are doing it for the slim possibility of work at Bethesda or some other company, and many of them truly are more talented at what they do than these companies' own employees, but they'll never get that chance.
Just like EA, Bethesda will never change their stripes because what they are doing is still too profitable. Best to just go with the sleeper hits.
It's never a good sign when any entity is presenting its very old successes as a cheap trick to coast on the good graces of current gamers, at an event where they should be presenting something new. You are totally right about their presentations of ES6 and that space game, they got nothing.

Really hate to be "that guy," but the "Dovahkiin Theme" is called "Nerevar Rising" or "Call of Magic," and Bethesda has used some version of it for every game since Morrowind.

Deplorable Bias - Don't even try to bullshit me. The chorus of all three songs (Nerevar Rising, Reign of the Septims, and Dovahkiin) are clearly the same melody. The songs, despite each being driven by different instruments (strings in Nerevar Rising, horns in Reign of the Septims, and vocals in Dovahkiin), are all intended to evoke similar atmospheres. Most people would agree that they are, functionally, different variations of the same song. Of course, this doesn't mean they've been recycling the same track ad nauseum, nor does it mean that all three are the same song, but they are all three very obviously constructed around the same motif.

Be prepared for cumbersome controls and really drawn out and boring dialogue. Like Morrowind, they were good in their day, but they haven't aged well. They're still definitely worth playing for the lore, though.

I'm just worried there'll be no more Fallout titles if this one is successful (whether ESO is successful is a somewhat a contentious of a claim), I'm afraid they'll neglect single player games. To be fair, their single player games haven't maintained their quality over the years, but maybe if they keep making them they'll get better.
If not, well, the Daggerfall open source project is moving along nicely, so maybe people will just make their own games based off that. Which might be a a good thing. And there's the Morrowind open source project too. Yeah, I guess Beth can go do their own money grubbing thing and I'll still have plenty to spend my time with.

n3rdm4n Andromeda was a totally different case. It was developed by a new Bioware studio, by people with little experience on game development and even less experience with the Frostbite engine. So ye, Andromeda was a disaster for different reasons.

Although I wouldn't be too sure how Fallout fans feel if they can't mod the game anymore. Likely, many will just stick with 4 and not buy 5. But seeing how disconnected Bethesda seems from the people who actually play the games, it wouldn't surprise me if they tried it.

The idea if made properly could be good, even fun but:
A: Bethesda has no multiplayer experience, Eso is made by zenimax not the Bethesda studio, ergo they wont have a clue how to balance, design, etc for a good mp experience.
B: Bethesda has no quality controll, remember Fallout 4 quests broke constantly,etc. also there is the engine which is so old, if it were a dog we would go behind the barn and end it's misery.
C: well stands for cut yourself Club, aka create some shit club aka creation club. They will allow mods and private servers AFTER the game is "stable" i expect 1 year atleast but honestly bethesda is in no hurry because if the story and rpg elements lack ppl will buy this cc shit and Bugthesda makes Bank.

I played Fallout NV and I thought Fallout 4 was fun. Sure it's not as rich in intellectual compelling story telling, but I still liked the rest. I liked the characters, building settlements, modding guns and equipment, graphics and dumb fun fighting shit.

Also...I agree with you on the Gaming as a Service thing...I miss the old days of gaming...like the 6th generation...where a game used to be a game... Sure not everything was great...but at the very least it was a game back then. Granted there is some good games released during this generation...but I can't help but feel that back in the day...games used to be games...and not "We're going to update this one game two years, DLC, lootboxes, etc." It's starting to get old...

As far as I'm concerned, they went under years ago. Haven't even considered purchasing their 2015 Disney adaptation of Fallout. Is there a proper Fallout texture pack and ENB yet?
Playing 3 right now. Level 35, skills over 100 with mods, 9000 carry weight on PC with one easy console command, texture packs, character model packs, animation overhauls, tweak for more than 2GB ram. "I can't hold all these mods." Costs nothing with a net connection.
Bought the complete game for less $20 with shipping a few years ago. Try waiting for the hilarious hype deflation present in games prices :D
I will not purchase or play a game with microtrans, it ruins the experience for me just knowing it's there. Consider any of them to be a red flag for obvious reasons seen now. Done with multiplayer completely, it's too simply expensive for what it is. I hope they drop a WoW sub fee at the last moment before 76's broken launch. Why not right?
