This. Wait for reviews before buying anything. I stopped preordering games almost a decade ago after being disappointed only 2 times. That's all it took to leave a sour taste in my mouth; I don't get why people continue to do preorder stuff and then act surprised when it's a disappointing letdown.... don't believe the marketing. It's MARKETING. Of course a product is going to try and sell itself by making itself sound amazing. That doesn't mean it will deliver.
Not all games do that. Rockstar comes to mind for releasing complete games. Red Dead 2 had a few glitches sure but a couple always slip through at launch. It's unfortunate that they're in the minority but at least SOME games actually come out finished

isnt that how some game devs use to do it though? give game journalists a copy of the game, but they can only report on it a bit after its out under a NDA.
Yurika except most people that reported on it either actually paid for it or are using info from the people that did. The people that got the game for free (along with getting paid for playing) are the ones that initially defended the game, I suspect that they had a certain contract or something from saying how broken the game was.

I honestly just feel really betrayed by Bethesda at this point. Up until all this shit happened, I was on their side because I liked their games. Even after FO76 came out I thought "oh they can turn this around, they can fix their PR" but no, they just step in shit and then they start looking for a larger pile of shit and then step in that. I've been waiting for Elder Scrolls VI for almost eight years and now I'm honestly scared to see it because of how much this has ruined my view of Bethesda.
Had Bethesda taken different actions, Fallout 76 could have been a work of art. Instead, we got this.

I honestly think Fallout 76 could turn out to be one of the best things to happen to gaming lately. The massive backlash coming off the back of shadow of war and star wars battlefront 2 has destroyed this game and it's sales from day 1. Anybody who still thinks they can get away with aggressive microtransactions now will have to think twice.
I'm not saying after this it will never happen again but it's a warning to the industry that a line in the sand has been drawn and we will not take this shit lying down any more.

There is simply too much GOOD competition now with more quality game developers than ever before.. Fallout 76 was originally supposed to be the multiplayer component of Fallout 4 but was shelved for some reason (Todd Howard said this on video), it's a failure, it sucks, it's NOT what the CUSTOMER/player base asked for, for 10 "F"ing YEARS.. Time is running out, in 3 to 5 years they will have another release on a dated engine and no customers for a lackluster POS reskin, too many driven and talented designers out there ready to put the nail in Bethesda's coffin...

Bought it for half price a month after release. Played it for 2 weeks now... ...and I'm running out of content. You can explore for days but stash space is limited so there's not that much looting to be done. There's a few quests, no companions... Ran into several locations that looked like they should have quests. It also lacks the content to make it comparable to DayZ, no vehicles, few weapons. Worst part? No Dogmeat.
You will be able to buy Dogmeat in Atomic shop for 300 dollars.

Fallout 3 was a good game, just the main story sucked later as it gone on... outside of that it was pretty good and they redid the map because they thought the DC ruins was too big, pretty okay

Then they got a actual writer for the far harbor DLC [the one that should be writing fallout]
Fallout 76 has good atmospheric stories and it’s pretty dark, the map is fantastic... but it’s tied down to servers and a poor system which has been broken even more after the updates; Bethesda is truly its own worse enemy.
Fallout 76 also brings back a lot more wacky and fallout style enemies that I would love to see in future installments and see hem add upon ^^
Fallout New Vegas should have their writers be the creative design and story writers while the fallout far harbor, fallout 3 and fallout 76 design and writers get together; that would be a great fallout... altho fallout new Vegas is basically picked form the original fallout 3 before Black Isle went under so be story was already there and written for the most part nearly a decade before new Vegas even started; and what Obsidian tried to do to the writer after the success of New Vegas

Mind explaining to be the problem of fallout 4’s character when in fallout brotherhood they don’t even let you return to locations in previous chapters, or even make your own character.
I’m simply stating fallout 3 was good and great in some spots outside of the main quest.
Bethesda always kinda sucks at executions in their games as of late, unless it’s fallout 4’s far harbor DLC which is written by someone else... that someone is the one that should be writing fallout games instead of whoever wrote up fallout 4.

I bought that game thinking I would be able to enjoy it with or without my friends but I was very wrong. The first few times I got on weren't very bad at all and was actually quite enjoyable. I came across weird looking buggy creatures, passive enemies, and invincible enemies but all that didn't phase me.
The issues really became apparent when I realized how I had to play so differently because of the stash limit and how a crash could really screw me over. I always hoarded items because I knew one day I would use them but I can't do that in FO76. The stuff I do manage to store could be made completely irrelevant at a moments notice from a server crash. One example that made me turn away from FO76 was when I had owned the food processing plant workshop for the first time. I built up generators and extractors all over and that place to have it running at full potential... when the server went down. Not only did I lose my time from building but also all those materials from building 15+ medium generators were just gone. Everything I had accumulated up to that point no longer existed and would require a lot of grinding to recover. I just couldn't handle the limitations anymore so now I rarely sit down and think "I should play FO76" despite Fallout being my favorite series.
Maybe Bethseda should stick to offline games.....duh. ESO is a trainwreck when shtf esp. during events. Does not surprise me that this money grab is even worse.
@@pavman42 hell, unless you're playing doom or Wolfenstein these days, the Bethesda single player games are terrible (Elder scrolls and fallout primarily, the rpg elements have been stripped down to nothing at this point for both titles and it's very disappointing.)

What's out of this world with Fallout 76 is Bethesda's reaction to it all. They are the most out of touch video game developers ever and gamers made them that way. Gamers gave them so much slack with their games being buggy then buying Skyrim several times on different consoles, it reinforced all bad things about the dev. It made their heads fat. This is what happens when you fanboy too much.
Agreed, but game developers making games for the people who whine also turn out bad, like BF5 and there shitty virtue signaling and Gears of War with noobifying there shooter by adding auto aim and bullet slowing etc. Bethesda kinda closing themselfs off from people is a good thing i think, it allows them to focus on there game and not focus on the whinies that dont have a clue what they want. TH-camrs don't ruin anything they just report the news. I went into No Man's Sky without looking at a single review and came out with the same opinions as all the youtubers did, I felt ripped off, this wasn't the game I saw at E3 and I kept trying to find the multiplayer but it wasn't there, it wasn't until later when I started looking at youtube channels that I found out it had no multiplayer and many of the other things that was promised.
This time I watched the videos on Fallout 76 first and I'm glad I didn't buy it, I would feel seriously burned right now like I did with No Man's Sky if it wasn't for youtubers. Thank you Gundam for saving me $60 on a game that is already discounted to $30, I'll just wait until its free to play.
I tend to watch independent youtubers talk about games,rather than the big ones like ign and such.
The indy guys are more passionate about gaming and they tend to be more neutral and unbiased about gaming reviews.

As a casual gamer it sucks even harder because I spend what little time I do have for gaming trying to work around glitches, restarting the game and watching two minute loading screens. Whether you're casual or not, even discounted this game isn't worth the headaches. And those sales "tactics" in the Atomic Shop are literally illegal in other countries. Just craziness.

I don't even get motion sickness, but playing 76 makes me sick too. The graphics are fucking disgusting. It reminds me of the drunk effect in GTA V. Blurry DOF, random colors, no center line of sight, inconsistent texture resolutions, and awful camera bob.

The story and the idea that the scorched will wipe out humanity was actually pretty cool. But they didn't include enough to compensate for lack of dialogue and npcs.

I agree. What is ironic and absurd is they didn't learn from the mistakes Interplay/Black Isle made making non-RPG Fallout games. Fallout fans want Fallout games. Its that simple. We don't want MMOs, RTS or what have you. We want RPGs.

Skyrim isn’t a bad game at all, has alot problems and bugs but it got game of the year. I run over 60 mods on xbox and it never crashes. Maybe 4 times in the whole year. But maybe because I barely play now. Idk lol
The elevator bugging out of power gave me PTSD

Also, just cause you LIKE a game, doesn't change the fact that the game SUCKS. Liking a game is an Opinion. A game sucking is FACT. The Game, compared to ANY other MMO, Fails to epic proportion. Even Aliens: Colonial Marines is more complete and bug free than this game, and it was found out that the AI had been fucked up because of 1 typeo that was never found till a modder went through the code and found it, and fixed it. And I'm pretty sure it STILL hasn't been patched and fixed.
This game is bad. Everything about it is bad. That's all Fact. It even cut the price on it a WEEK after release, I would even go so far as to say that is Illegal on Bethesda part, scamming people that paid $60 out of their money.

I knew this was gonna be a turd. Fortunately, the CE sold out before I plunked down $200. I still want that helmet. After the videos came out in November, told my girl not to get it for me or anyone else for Xmas. It's basically what I expected after the shit they've pulled with nerfing ESO and gouging via the crown store.
They really must have very, very little respect for their player base and will get what they truly deserve...future failure. If they were public I'd be shorting the shit out of them.

Like Quest 64. The game has virtually no story, a third of the enemies are just recolors of earlier enemies, there's an entire town that's obviously not even half-finished, and the only actual quest in the game is your main objective with all other missions picked up having a direct line to completing the main. Oh, and I forgot this for a minute: Almost all of the enemies use ONLY magical attacks, and there is a spell that will negate those attacks even when they come from the final boss. Only about a handful use physical attacks.
But the game can still be considered fun to play (which I do, personally): The combat system at the time was new and interesting (I only recall off the top of my head one other game that did that called the Aiden Chronicles. That one did have a LOT more to it, but could have used a much better soundtrack and better final arc. Also, there were times when the music was way too quiet or way too loud.)
However, this does not excuse all its other shortcomings, and many people thought the game was garbage. This is on the developers, not the players.

Compare any Bethesda game to Morrowind, and you'll find that every game after Morrowind, fundamentally suck, is much smaller, lacks contents, and is much more buggy and unstable. It's fundamentally fact that every game from Bethesda sucks after Morrowind was released. But people have too much fun.
The only other two games that can be compared to Morrowind in turns of being good, is Fallout 3 in terms of Content. Being able to be good or bad, many quests and side quests, lots of items, skills, perks, and secrets, and visual storytelling about the different areas all around. Pretty much every building or locations you can go to in Fallout 3, has a secret story based just on the items and terminals located in that area, that you'd only know about if your actually looking at the enviroment and paying attention to what you see, read, and hear.
The other is Skyrim, not based on Content, skills, or anything else. But because of how modable it is. It's is the biggest and most easily modable game they ever released, and because of that, it's the MODDERS that make the content, depth, and details that make Skyrim good, not Bethesda.
Everything else from Bethesda. ESO, Fallout NV, Fallout 4, Oblivion, and so on just do not compare to those 3 games above. They fundamentally are worse and suck.
But people love playing those games anyways.

bad writting, limited dialog options, quantity over quality, it's very streamlined they got rid of most of the fun rpg stuff. Not to mention it was the birth of paid mods. Extremely over priced lazy shit in their store. Took popular mods made their own version and charged like $30 dollars for it. NV compared to FO4 it's night and day the quality difference.

@Max McDougall Yes. I get that FO4 had too few variation in dialog options. But the options in NV and FO3 were still limited.

If it is meant to be telling the story of X character then the limited options is to keep the story going in the same direction and only to add flavor. However, in a sandbox RPG or one in which your choices are meant to impact the world or subsequent events, having 2 "options" (both of which have the same outcome) is only an illusion of choice (which if over used, if obvious and irritating). Games like these are meant to have 4+ options (not sure if FO4 does or any of the FO games, as i enjoy Elder scrolls more.). Personally I like Divinity original sin II's take on dialog, choice and action.(you can take the side of your enemy and are forced to fight your ally, though you can chose to fight and kill or run away, among numerous permutations, since the party member used to control the conversation can steer it in different ways and have multiple outcomes). Your choices have weight. Not the: kill this NPC? or chose to set them free? only for a random stray bullet kill them anyway moments later (same outcome).
@@mambutuomalley2260 I think it's more the case that Fallout 4 had very streamlined dialog, if you add a mod that actually changes everything to what you actually say, you can actually see that 4 options can sometimes be 1 option, I remember a scene where you sit down in a restaurant and the robot waiter asks how you want to be served, and there is 4 options, but they are all the same option.
The issue is that Fallout 4 is now more an action game rather than a RPG where you play a role in the given world, this game would be fantastic if it weren't a fallout game.
Other fallout games especially new vegas, allows you to be your own character and to play a role and your role has ups and downs, that's how I felt.
I played it first time around it was fine, but the story and characters were nothing so meh.

Sylis TM Oblivion wasn’t a bad game. But if you played Morrowind you would understand the point being made. With every new game, Bethesda strips away the complex, interesting mechanics instead of improving upon them.
